Went for Sunday dinner, and the food was brilliant! A good-sized portion with plenty of meat, leaving you comfortably full. Pudding was tasty, and the wait for food was nice and quick, too. Good value as well.

Saturday lunchtime “pie and a pint” without the pie as they had none left (at 130pm). Instead for me it was sausage and a fairly average mash and for my mate a decent looking burger (cheapened by a bottle of Hellmans ketchup). The fact we made no comment at all to each other about the food probably reflects there was nothing to really say about it. The pints of Camden Hells weee decent and there was generally a good choice of draft beer. The place had an easy going vibe to it with a generally slightly older crowd (me included!!). Located a minute away Central Station.

Was visiting for one night, walked to the Town Wall from my hotel. Place was busy, but large enough there were plenty of places to sit and eat. Staff were great at recommending local beers, as well as what was popular at the time. Fantastic food, and an amazing beer from nearby. If I'm ever in town again I'll definitely stop in to eat.

We'd booked a table for Sunday lunch at 5pm . I accept that may seem late (to some) for lunch but it fitted our travel plans and it was the time slot offered on their own website. There were later slots so we assumed all would be OK. Early afternoon on the day we received a call asking us to either pre-order or move our booking forward. I wouldn't normally but we were keen to try this place so we agreed 4pm and re-arranged our plans. We arrived at 3:45 and asked the barman if our table was ready. He checked, said it was and pointed in the vague direction of where the table was leaving us to find it. I asked if we needed to order drinks/food at the bar and was told someone would take our order at the table. We sat and waited 15 minutes before I went back to the bar to order our drinks. We sat and waited another 30 minutes before paying for our drinks and leaving. The barman knew we were there (he'd even opened a tab for the drinks) and the Manager knew we were there (I'd spoken to him when I ordered the drinks). It was quite quiet and there seemed to be plenty of staff. Perhaps the guy cleaning the cutlery could have taken our order. Perhaps the girl who cleared the adjoining table whilst we were sat there could have taken our order. Perhaps the Manager who knew I'd had to come back to the bar to order drinks could have taken our order or at least proved his worth as a Manager and made sure someone did. If you ignore customers for 45 minutes in a near empty pub then you don't deserve business.

We came in on Friday evening for drinks and food, but unfortunately just didn't have a great time which is a shame considering the great potential of the place. The bar was busy with 3 sides and more than enough staff, however there seemed no system in place as to who was serving who and on which side which meant waiting for a drink took an unnecessarily long time, and then when some did come to our side, they would have no idea who was first so would shout 'who's next', which if you are small and behind one of the large beer taps, and a bigger guy behind you shouts, you will miss out. We had table service (which we didn't expect, we'd thought we'd have to go to the bar) to order the food and the waitress was lovely. The food itself was ok, standard pub grub. The red pepper hummus tasted a bit odd and the katsu tofu was a bit of a disappointment - greasy silken tofu and cold curry sauce. But everything else as expected. We'd intended to stay for a few drinks but the acoustics were pretty terrible meaning you could barely hear the person next to you talk, which I get it's an old building with high ceilings, but there are ways around that. The biggest issue was when we tried to get our food bill at the end. By that time they had stopped officially serving food so there were no staff on the floor, and everyone was behind the bar. It was then impossible to get the bill without essentially queuing for a drink, which I didn't quite fancy. I tried to lean over to ask a very young bartender, but was just told by him he was busy serving someone. Eventually our same waitress who took the order was able to help, but it was a bit of a long and drawn out process for something quite simple. Would've been easier to order food at the bar in the first place. I work in hospitality myself, so am only trying to be constructive and not criticise, I think it's a great venue, just needs a little operational improvements.

We've eaten at The Town Wall previously and it's been really good so we were really disappointed with our most recent visit, for Sunday Lunch with friends. Appearances can be deceptive: we'd seen lunch being served to other tables and the roast beef looked exceptional so I actually decided to go against my first choice (the pork) and order beef instead. However, alarm bells started to go off when we saw the same meals being sent back twice by another table! Three of us ordered beef, and my wife ordered the pork. The beef was served medium so nice and pink but it was as tough as old boots. The pork was overcooked to the point of being like eating sawdust. The roast potatoes were tough. The mashed potatoes were stodgy and really needed some butter or cream in them. The only highlight was the Yorkshire pudding and gravy. Both were decent. What was perhaps more frustrating was that our friends had eaten in The Town Wall barely two weeks earlier and said they had an excellent meal. We complained and were offered a round of complimentary drinks. That's all well and good but we'd far rather have had an enjoyable meal. It's a real shame that the Sunday lunch was so below par given our previous visits. It won't stop me coming back for drinks as I like The Town Wall - it has a great ambience and a good selection of beers - but it'll probably be quite some time before I trust it for a Sunday lunch.

Booked in on a Sunday for a celebratory lunch and were underwhelmed by the whole thing. Ordered 3 x Sunday lunches and a fish and chips. All 3 Sunday lunches turned up cold so were sent back and heated up. The only lunch that was replaced fully was one that had sauce on the plate before we realised it was stone cold. Fish and chips were pretty woeful. Fish was greasy and a lot smaller than previous times we’d visited. Had to eat alone as rest of the food was taken away. £100 total bill for 3 cold meals, one greasy fish and chips and drinks. Unfortunately wouldn’t recommend and spoiled what should’ve been a lovely birthday lunch.

We went for a Christmas staff lunch and sadly it did not live up to the lovely time we had had 2 years previously. The starters took over an hour to arrive even though we had pre-ordered. The soup was cold and the portions of the Salmon and the Mushroom Pate were woefully small. The pate looked disgusting. The main course was delicious but, again the wait was dreadful. There were not enough staff on the bar and desserts took another 30 minutes to arrive after the main course. We were told we had to leave the table because another group was booked in and no member of staff apologised for our wait or for the fact that, due to their tardiness, we were forced to vacate the room whilst some of the party hadn't had time to finish their desserts. We had had a great experience two years ago but we will not be visiting again. Really disappointed.

Use to be a big fan of the town wall… use to go here a lot on my university days, and the staff were really friendly and remembered my name and they use to remember my name and my order.. now not so much, last time I went in for the first time in years some sketchy characters were in there, and when I come out to wait for my taxi there was a group of vagrants who asked(demanded) money from me and the group I was with near the entrance to which I reluctantly obliged, because I did not want trouble in front of my girlfriends mother.. I was going to book a room for my parents anniversary, but I will go local instead due to this experience, Newcastles homes less problem has ruined a load of bars and this is one of them, no point in paying up market prices if I am experiencing this.

Very disappointing experience. My husband ordered fish & chips and an extra portion of chips. He asked the difference in price between 2 lagers only to be told one was dearer than the other. He asked for a lager tops and had to ask the barmaid for lemonade as it had none. She then told him the bill was £33 something when he queried it she said oops she had charged for the dearer lager...he asked for the receipt which was £28 something caught in a lie. My husband brought our drinks to the table and after pouring my gin into the glass I noticed it was dirty...it had lipstick smudges around the rim. He took the glass back to her where she proceeded to tell him it was watermarks??? She then brought the condiments that had cake contents around the neck of the bottle. Our meal came and looked very nice. When I lifted a fork to eat I noticed it was dirtyso asked for a clean one, to be honest if her attitude was anything to go by,I am struggling to believe she actually changed the fork. The fish was OK I have tasted much better. I do not think it was fresh as it smelled fishy and shouldn't if it was fresh. Unhappy with the attitude of the barmaid my husband asked yo speak to the manager only to be told said barmaid was the 'acting manager for today'. She was not in any way helpful and did not seem to take our complaint seriously. First time at the Town Wall and we certainly would not go back. Shame. I suggest the Acting Managers get some more training especially on good Manners and also on cleanliness of condiments, glasses and cutlery. Also training on how to not give their opinion on whether a glass has lipstick on it or a fork is dirty...I didn't give a reason for the dirty fork for all she knew it had dropped to the floor. I have never experienced a member of Hospitality question why a clean glass or clean fork is required. This left a very bad taste. I would NOT recommend The Town Wall Newcastle.

We asked the bar tender what IPAs were on offer and was very sharply told to look at the board which had no information. My twin brother Stephen and I were pub hopping around this part of town when we decided to drop into The Town Wall Pub, this is a wonderful pub that was just a joy to visit. Walking in and I knew I would enjoy my visit here ,the interior is superb, it looks like a former Georgian townhouse ,the interior is cool ,multi roomed, light and airy, a solid wood serving bar dominates one of the rooms, eclectic decor and furnishings including plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a wonderful pub to visit. We were here on a Thursday afternoon, pub was just starting to get busy with a great atmosphere, we ordered a pale ale each from Wylam Brewery, these were served in pristine condition, we settled down and planned out the day we while sipping our pale ale's. My pale ale was really good, fresh, crisp ,hoppy but not overhopped, a delicate aroma and taste, on a really hot day a totally refreshing brew, it was just so good being in such a lovely pub enjoying a quality brew. We really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to The Town Wall Pub we were totally impressed. The Town Wall Pub is easy to locate along Pink Street. Opening hours are;Monday to Thursday, Midday till 11pm. Friday & Saturday, Midday till 1am. Sunday, Midday till 11pm. This is not a negative review. A couple of years since we were in the Town Wall we called in while visiting Newcastle. Plenty of ales etc. to choose from even if some were a tad expensive £7 a pint is expensive. Anyway settled for a cheaper pale ale at £5 a pint. Now to the bar itself the seating could do with a spring clean to but that said well layed out for visitors during these trying times.. We dined and the menu did not do the food justice. The fare was amazing, we will not visit Newcastle again without sampling the delights of the Town Wall. This bar delivers on all fronts.

Love the beer garden, bit expensive but nice craft beers, friendly staff, well organised after reopening with all the post quarantine measures

The was by far one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever eaten. My parner had lamb and myself roast chicken. Both came with wonderful veg and lovely Yorkshire pudding with rich gravy. We have struggled to find a good Sunday lunch in Newcastle without having to pay a high price. This was great value for money considering the quality presented. We will be back !!

It has a splendid selection of beers and there was great craic at the bar. Close to the station and recommended. It was very busy and even so the service was quick.

Come here often for Sunday dinner and it's always amazing. Staff are super friendly, beer and real ale selection is great. Would advise booking first though as it fills up pretty fast on a sunday!

Alongside the Bridge Tavern, this has to be one of the best bars in Newcastle. The food is always solid, with a good mix of sharing boards and traditional pub food. They have a great selection of local beers including plenty from Wylam brewery and the atmosphere is always good.

My partner and I frequent this lovely venue regularly for their excellent Sunday Dinner (Sunday Lunch to the heathens!)The atmosphere is laid back, with friendly staff and a fine selection of beers and ales - and a good coffee machine if you're off the drink. The standard does vary. The meat is always excellent, as is the veg and this place has the finest gravy. Occasionally the potatoes aren't quite as perfect as they normally are but they are still better than just about anywhere else! The variance is from a 9 to a 10/10.On a good day it is the most satisfying meal you can find in town and very reasonably priced to boot. On an off-day it is still excellent.Perfect place for a relaxing Sunday.

A particular member of staff that served me was SO RUDE. You could tell she didn’t want to be there (I mean who could blame her, but it’s not the customers fault), and she was just slamming drinks down being really short with customers. It made you feel like a huge inconvenience being there. I get everyone’s out on Christmas night outs etc and it can get busy but we all work! The vibe is normally quite chill and cool in here, and previous times I have been in, the staff have always been ok. But this girl has put me off going in for a while. The space is nice and open so if you have large parties of people it’s ideal. They also have huge tables. I have eaten here in the past and the food has always been nice, sometimes you don’t get a lot for what you pay.

Visited this pub many times for drinks but ate here for the first time last night. My friend and I both had the vegan festive menu and it was so delicious... especially the cauliflower cheese bake and the starter filo parcel. We both agreed that for a non vegan establishment, the vegan options for exceeded what we have eaten lately at fully vegan restaurants! We had a Christmas cracker each which were in support of a homeless charity and plastic free! This was a nice little touch and much appreciated. As always the atmosphere was good and lively and every staff member we encountered was so friendly and helpful - shout out to the two women who served our food and drinks! A really lovely night with delicious food!

Popped in for a pre train snack and drink Shared the fish platter and it filled a hole and was reasonably priced. Neither of the staff I encountered were particularly friendly though.

Called in for a beer. Ended up having several which then led to us having food. Great place. Craft ale on draft including brewers such as Tiny Rebel and Wylam. Good ale. Good food. What more can i say?

Loads of variety if you are in to lager. The atmosphere was great. Not too loud, nor was it too quiet. Ample amount of seating around and the prices are fairly reasonable.

It's a very nice place, quite busy. Also having a £5 minimum charge for card payments is very jammy. I wouldn't have minded so much if there was some signage to notify me before committing to ordering a drink. Now I'm stuck with 11 packets of crisps.

¡Gracias!

Arrived early and sat through to our table ( a nice little touch was a sheet of paper with reservations for .........). The staff are very attentive, happy and smiling and theirs makes them stand out. We ordered 2beef dinners and 2 lamb, unfortunately it’s the wait time that I’ve marked them down on as it wasn’t particularly busy but waited well over 1/2hr for the lunches. Although the beef was nice you could see as soon as it was put down it was fatty( if the chef served this and the staff would have seen it then I thought what’s the point in mentioning it)? Overall a very nice experience, lovely food ( although if we went back we would both have chicken), staff happy and a good atmosphere to the place . Not as good as the Earl of Pit street but not bad. Would we go back? Yes.

The worst experience ever, I am a vegetarian and my sandwiches were bread and butter, a sliver of egg in another and a tomato and grated cheese that fell apart because it was so dry! The presecco was flat and warm and the scones were not fresh. Never again

Really friendly and nice pub with great food options. We went on a Sunday evening for a Christmas roast and we were not disappointed. Would definitely recommend. Also the staff were super helpful with our allergies and dietary requirements.

Good coffee and friendly staff. Shame that the music plays a bit too loud, it’s difficult to relax.
