Food erm,,,, not as good, portions are skimping, about time they changed salad,to something you can chew . .chef seems mardy and not happy to keep their custom...could never fault this place, food was always amazing ...now chef don't feel bothered about his customers bub

Called in after day at wildlife park on Mother’s Day , the staff managed to get us in . They were very accommodating with child’s request , food amazing at even better prices xxx

Tea at The Eagle and Child in Auckley for 4 ladies. So glad we booked it was heaving! Shown straight to our table. Table booked for 6pm. A young waiter took our drinks order at 6.15pm, drinks arrived 5-10 mins later. Food order taken as drinks were brought. Food arrived 6.50pm. Beautifully presented and everyone agreed it was delicious with quite large portions. I had surf and turf. Steak cooked to my liking with a generous amount of prawns. Other meals were beef bourginon, steak pie, Hunters chicken. Great that everyone ate everything. Just as we had finished a different waiter rocked up chewing gum to tell us we had 10mins to vacate the table. It was 7.05pm. He came back 5 mins later and told us we had to move as our table was booked at 7.30pm. Just as he walked off my friend asked if we could order another drink. He was very blasé and still chewing gum! It seemed too much trouble to get our drinks but he did after my friend pointed out he was rather cheeky , I would say rude! So we moved to a table in the bar that was vacated just at the right time as it was still busy. Unbelievably no-one was seated at our original table and we left at 9.50pm! We all agreed the food was delicious and the service from our 1st waiter was brilliant. The young gum chewing waiter needs to learn some customer service as he let the team down 🤨 We would go again for the excellent food though.

Delicious food. Helpful waiters. Couldn’t have asked for more. Ended up glad we didn’t eat at the Hexagon.

Just normal pub food noting special but not bad

Eagle & Child is a lovely quaint village pub, the food quality was excellent, as was the service, considering it was a Saturday night it was heaving and the staff were extremely busy. Our food came out quickly. Would certainly go again when in the vicinity

I had a really disappointing experience at the Eagle and Child today. Based on reviews from Donny Drinker and others, I expected a pet-friendly environment, as I’ve seen plenty of people bring their dogs inside on previous visits. In fact, I’ve been here three or four times before and specifically asked staff if I could bring my two small birds in a backpack. Each time, they assured me it wouldn’t be a problem. However, when I actually did bring my parakeets - securely contained in their backpack - I was outright refused entry. Meanwhile, several patrons had their dogs freely roaming inside the pub. When I questioned this inconsistency, the owner himself stated that dogs were allowed, but my two tiny, quiet birds were not. We drove all the way across Doncaster to visit, only to be turned away unfairly. If they’re going to allow some pets but not others, they should make that clear in their policies instead of misleading customers. I won’t be returning, and honestly, if they only welcome dogs, they might as well rename themselves the Dog and Child.

El aparcamiento es un poco limitado (alrededor de 50 plazas de aparcamiento), pero es gratuito para los clientes. El acceso para personas con problemas de movilidad no es maravilloso, la entrada principal es estrecha y patas de perro, así que suene adelante para ver si hay acceso para sillas de ruedas (aunque en el interior sería difícil navegar con una). Visitamos sin saber acerca de la reserva de una mesa, pero pudimos pedir una comida mientras estaba sentado en el salón del bar. La dificultad era el asiento, que en su mayoría eran taburetes que se sentían bastante inestables. Ahora para el lado bueno, la comida, excelente calidad, enormes porciones apropiadas al norte de Inglaterra a un costo razonable (tres de nosotros comimos y tomamos bebidas todo por menos de £ 50). Dada la ocupación y el exceso de trabajo del personal, el servicio era bueno y la comida llegó en 20 minutos, caliente y absolutamente delicioso. El Pub sirve cerveza auténtica y parece apoyar la campaña por la cerveza auténtica que hoy en día alivia los residuos industriales que sirven la mayoría de los pubs. En general, muy recomendable.

Food was absolutely amazing! The service was great! The only thing was both toilets had been mopped but there were no floor cones and I nearly slipped over in the cubicle. Spent £50 on one starter, 2 mains, a pint, half a pint and a pint of coke

Really nice traditional English pub. Didnt eat but everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. The locals are friendly and polite.

Excellent food, amazing warm,comfy,homely feeling, great ambience

Went in just before Christmas with friends. My food choice was fine, The Festive pie others had was mundane and tasteless I was told. The issue we had was with the service. I/we are all for young people learning a trade/ having a part time job and gaining experience. However what we didn't like was the attitude of the young lady and man that served us. My honest opinion was that it was all too much effort for them. Never smiled, were asked about food and drinks yet never knew answers, were lacking in enthusiasm or social skills it seemed. Had to be asked several times to clear dirty pots after we'd finished after walking by them several times, even bringing new drinks to the table yet not clearing them away, even at the pudding stage, leaving glasses and dinner pots...its basic but seemed lacking in every way. Arguing about a pudding and snatching the plate away as though a complaint by a friend was a personal insult to them was the reason for this negative review. Appeared to be no supervision overseeing their lack of service or enthusiasm. Come in guys, it's off putting. Been many times yet this was really poor.

Love our local. On Christmas Day the place was packed but we still got service in a quick and friendly fashion. Good choice for everyone including a gingerbread stout which was perfect for keeping that Christmas feeling going.

Preguntamos cuál era el pastel festivo, la joven dijo que era pavo, relleno y arándanos, pero solo quedaban 2 porciones. Mi amigo y yo pedimos el pastel que venía con patatas fritas y guisantes. Desafortunadamente, cuando nuestras comidas salieron, el pastel no se parecía a un pastel. Había trozos secos de pavo y trozos de relleno en el plato, no había señales de arándanos y una rebanada fina y rectangular de pastel empapado en la parte superior (claramente microondas). No nos preguntaron si todo estaba bien con la comida y nos llevó varios intentos para tratar de pedir bebidas y postres. Eventualmente, arrestamos a un joven, el único camarero en esa noche y no parecía que quisiera estar allí. Preguntamos si podíamos pedir postres y él inmediatamente preguntó si sabíamos lo que queríamos. Pedimos mirar el menú, así que trajo la pizarra desde el área del bar. 2 pedí esponja y natillas y pedí un brownie. No me preguntaron qué me gustaría con el brownie, así que supuse que vendría con crema o helado, ambos me gustan. 20 minutos después la joven sacó dos tazones con el pudín de esponja y las natillas y luego regresó con otro tazón con un brownie caliente cubierto de natillas tibias. Al instante dije que había pedido el brownie pero no esperaba que se sirviera con natillas. Dijo que la orden tenía natillas escritas. Confirmé que nunca pedí natillas, ya que el joven tomó mi orden la última vez y luego se fue sin preguntar con qué lo quería. Dijo que podías tomarlo con crema, helado o natillas pero la orden decía natillas. Dije que lo dejara. Aunque, después de tomar una cuchara y probarla, también se había cocinado en el microondas y era solo un desastre gooey, no había ninguna esponja como la consistencia, era como si estuviera sin cocinar. Le pregunté a la chica si podía tomar un brownie sin crema. El joven se acercó y dijo abruptamente que así se sirven nuestros brownies. Procedí a decirle que unas semanas antes había pedido un brownie después de una comida dominical y lo tenía caliente con crema. Dijo, bueno, no hacemos eso aquí debe haber sido en otro lugar. Él fue muy discutidor pero aceptó cambiar el postre. 2 minutos después me trajo un tazón con un brownie duro como una roca y se alejó. No me lo comí ya que era demasiado duro, en su lugar lo puse en una servilleta y me lo llevé a casa conmigo. Huelga decir que no había propina y no volveremos.

Perfect cooked food, friendly staff, great atmosphere, will always recommend

We pop in without booking and around at 2.30pm. Found out the kitchen close at 3pm and reopen at 5pm. We managed to order our food in time. Beautiful atmosphere, it had a restaurant and bar area. We got seated in the bar. Lovely seat. Toliet are very well maintained but be aware of the deep step when stepping out the door when heading toward them. We order the garlic mushroom (I would bottle the the sauce if I can) and the king prawn tikka curry - it came out hot (temperature) and tasty- plenty of prawns (I had 11) and vegs. Definitely will be coming back again. Don't forget to check out the special.

Visiting friends for the weekend and they took us for a meal at this great village pub. Staff were friendly and very efficient. Food was excellent and catered for my gluten free allergy. Well done!

We dropped in on spec', we'd just visited Yorkshire Wildlife Park and were looking for somewhere to eat. We were seated in the restaurant area and ordered two meals from the Specials Board and a child's meal from the menu. The food was great, good portions all round, the child's Gammon and chips would have stumped an adult. The staff were attentive and friendly. Would definitely recommend and visit again if we're in the area.

Visité con amigos y familiares en varias ocasiones y siempre ha sido genial. La comida es muy buena al igual que el servicio. Muy recomendable si está cerca.

Nos quedamos decepcionados con la calidad de nuestro almuerzo del domingo y el servicio. Mi esposo es vegetariano y no pidió carne, pero sí muchas verduras. Mi hijo pidió una cena grande y yo pedí una pequeña. Las verduras que llegaron no fueron suficientes para tres. Para ser honesto era una buena porción para uno. La salsa no era suficiente y en ningún momento un miembro del personal preguntó si todo estaba bien con nuestra comida. No hubo oportunidad de solicitar más verduras o salsa. En otros lugares, cuando mi esposo tiene una opción sin carne, se le ofrece un plato grande con verduras adecuadas y dos pudines de Yorkshire. No era una comida barata y nos quedamos sintiendo que no teníamos una buena relación calidad-precio.

Este es un excelente pub, por lo que hacemos todo lo posible para comer allí cuando viajamos a los partidos de Doncaster Rovers. La cerveza siempre está encendida y hay muchas opciones. La comida es muy buena, con ensaladas laterales llenas de productos frescos y variados. Lo mejor de todo es que el personal, principalmente juvenil, es amable, dando la bienvenida a un personal muy eficiente. Solo venimos una vez cada quince días, pero recuerdan la dieta de moda de mi nieto y hacen arreglos para atenderlo sin hacernos sentir quisquillosos. ¡Somos miembros de Camra y estaríamos felices de nominar al Eagle and Child como Pub del Año!

Can't fault it, good environment. Nice and clean. Proper big horse shoe gammon. Great fresh fat homemade chips. The pint has a lovely head on it. Smoking area is decent. Book in advance. Gets busy..

Only called in for a drink with friends, no meal. The atmosphere was okay for the time of day, some were eating and the food looked good.

Food glorious food Just had a fabulous meal, great quality and quantity at a great price. Try the Homemade shortcrust pastry topped steak and ale pie. Generous quantities of meat. Very friendly and helpful staff as well.

First visit for may years very busy food was wonderful service good to say 40 mins wait for delicious meal will definitely return , steak and ale pie and chicken meal were both worth the wait staff very friendly .

Very good friendly pub, good selection of cask beer (4 if I recall correctly), brilliant beef cob, one of best ever had. Looks like a very good beer garden too.

Normally eat at our local pub. Were greeted and shown to our table. The menu had a great choice of home cooked meals. When the food came out it didn't let them down. Hubby had Steak & Ale pie,mash,peas and gravy. Lovely chunks of meat. I had the Chicken Tikka with chips loads of chicken,peppers and onions in with naan bread. Another friend had Gammon this filled the plate. Everything was perfect, they even came to the table and asked if we would like more drinks

We went for a Sunday roast and it was excellent quick service. Reasonable price and plenty of veg. Would recommend and would go again. Servers were all so lovely.

Gosh such huge servings!!!! Really good food and do affordable

Usually Very good, seems to be slipping a bit, had the over 60s meal, hardly any meat in the lasagne, chips tend to be overdone, having said that the gammon with egg and chips was great, just put a bit more mince in the lasagne and fry it on its own first, then wash any grease off, because cooking it in the sauce makes it look horrible .

Arrived at 8.10 tonight after being let down by two other venues. Definitely third time lucky. All staff very polite and helpful. Food was amazing, well worth the money. My son and I had the mixed grill. We even pretended to join in the quiz night. Fantastic little pub

Having been here a couple of times before and enjoyed a meal I was disappointed firstly with the service which was was bland to say the least, a smile and a chat costs nothing. Secondly the Sunday roast dinners that 4 of us had were poor. The Yorkshire puddings were dry and burnt, the beef was tough, the mash was lumpy, the roast potatoes were poor and the gravy was tasteless. Needless to say we won't be going back.

we have had many good meals here in the last year the food was always so good until the last month. We went about four weeks ago and then again today . I had gammon on the first occasion it was so salty and uneatable when i complained they said i could have a free pudding totally disgraceful. today I was standing at the bar for ages waiting to order the two children behind the bar just ignored me and kept speaking about football to each other. I then asked if they were going to serve today which they rudely said in a minute even though they were not serving anyone else. I ordered the lamb skewers which came and it was like tying to chew elastic bands I sent it back and had it replaced with hunters chicken which was dreadful. What has happened to this place is there a new chef or using cheaper butcher meat. It has gone badly downhill and the staff have become so poor. We wont be back. I got a decent burger on the road home from Macdonalds.

I have to say what has happened ?? We have been many times to the eagle and it has been fabulous,but not this time had to wait for food parents steak was terrible chewy and not cooked as asked.Is there a new chef ? Not up to the mark at all.

Had to wait an hour for food. Husband ordered super rare steak and came out medium/well. Also there was alot of tension between the staff and this could be felt.

The food here is consistently excellent and really good value. On my most recent visit last weekend I had prawns followed by tuna steak (which was cooked perfectly) and then lemon sponge. All delicious. The service is always warm, friendly, and attentive. I will always recommend this place to others, too.

Stopped for bite to eat all very good.

Turned up, 6 people, admittedly it was quite busy, but lots of 4 people tables they could have added chairs to (which they seemed to have managed to do to fit in a table of about 16) - simply couldn't be bothered / were being lazy and said they couldn't fit us in despite the obvious space - wouldn't come here again given the lazy, sullen and rude staff.

Very poor meal tonight. Booked a table for 6pm for a treat for my partner. Meal took 45 mins to arrive. Salmon was still raw. Chips were like crispy bits you usually find in a bag of frozen chips. My partner had finished his meal and my replacement salmon had not arrived by this time. The bar staff were very appologetic but would have been more professional if the chef had acknowledged their part in this very disappointing meal.

My two beautiful friends had made arrangements for lunch to celebrate my birthday, I had to wear a large badge with 65 on, a youngman bought the menu on a chalk board an put it on a chair close to us. I suddenly felt old but we all had a good laugh. Enjoyed lunch, great value for money and the staff were brilliant. Will dine there again.

Called at lunch today could have booked a table in the restaurant but it was short notice. The pub was packed so we waited for 10 minutes for a table. The service and food was amazing. I had the Jamaican jerk lamb😋

A classic british pub with a great seasonal menu,. The regularly changing specials board adds a twist to the regular fare also. Sometimes consider the Kangaroo burger or rabbit pie, but usually plump for the Hunters Chicken, burger or lasagne. Can't go wrong either way + a nice selction of ales. All reasonably priced.

We were a party of 12 celebrating a family birthday. All the party enjoyed their meals, good friendly service and exceptional value.

Lovely pub to go for a meal, the food was very good . We had to wait quite a while for it but it was a very busy Saturday night. You need to book in advance for Saturdays.

Went for a birthday lunch and we all had a great meal. Choice and quality is fantastic. Portion sizes are massive so plan an afternoon nap after lunch!

Came here after finding it on trip advisor as we were staying in the area. It was really busy however there was one table left in the bar area. Nice choice on the menu and all reasonably priced. Food good , staff all friendly and we enjoyed our evening.

We called for a meal as we have done so manually times usually very nice food and staff. Well, they must have been having a bad day or we were just unlucky as I stated before myself and my partner have eaten here loads of time before and never a problem or if there was it was rectified straight away. I told them my steak was overcooked, so a nice little waitress took my plate, apologised, and told me she would get it sorted out. Then she came back with my plate without my steak told me they would cook another one while I ate the rest of my meal I declined politely and asked for it all to be brought our together I got a very cold response. Then my partner asked if they could redo his meal as the steak chicken and grilled tomatoes were overdone. The next thing we new was a waiter that has been there for some time came out and asked what was wrong with our meals as to him they were perfectly done (sorry customer should know how they like there food cooked) he asked what part of the meal wasn't right and then he would refund that part, I must admit my partner was not very happy with this so I told said waiter to speak to me which he did but eas not happy with what I had told him about the meal. I said we would wait for it to be cooked again as I didn't want my money back but he refused saying there was nothing wrong with any of it. Then when he didn't get what he wanted he stormed off saying we were not worth it (great customer service guys lady behind bar said they are told to say that again way to fo guys. The waiter told rje last behind the bar my partner has spat in his face never in hos life would he have done that to anyone disgusting We eventually got our money back but £3 short I would have preferred to have my meal rectified and none of the animosity. They would of been happy and so would we. I know I will get a very curt and scathing reply judging from what they have replied to the other negative comments on here but there we go. I'm just sorry it had to come to.this as this was the first meal we have ever had a problem with.

Visited this lovely venue with both family and friends recently. Warmth of welcome, quality of food and service received all get 10 out of 10.

Great pub & consistently good food. Very reasonably priced as well for the quality & quantity you get. Would definitely recommend.

Had Sunday Lunch it was amazing. We returned tonight I had the Cajun chicken pasta. My partner had the blade off beef. Both was delecious. It was nice to see Trifle on the special s board. You often don’t see Trifle anymore on the sweets menu. Yet again delecious. I hope you keep doing the trifle. All the staff lovely xxx

Popped on for dinner after a full day our locally on New Year’s Day. The staff were really friendly. The lass behind the bar with dark hair was super smiley and had a laugh so was super warming on our arrival. The food was delicious, proper home cooked pub food. Kids portions had nice options too and a good size for the older kids. The steak and ale pie was amazing, so much meat in it and what I’d call a proper pie! Will definitely pop back if we are ever in the area again.

What a great find! This just looks like a standard local, but the food is just amazing! The service is second to none and the quality of food for the price paid is great! Staff are helpful and there is a great selection of beers and wines. Definitely worth a visit!

Lovely meal here last Wednesday with friends, had the senior menu which I must say was plenty for us, hate wasting 0food, had the lasagne served with garlic bread , it was very tasty , well presented, great atmosphere, good service, will most certainly be back 😋

The Eagle and Child is a warm, friendly and inviting pub. We went for a Christmas lunch and we’re really spoilt. I have never tasted such tasty soup, the main was turkey with all the trimmings, dessert was warm waffle with ice cream and chocolate sauce, mine was tiramisu although there were plenty of puddings including Christmas pud available. The service was first class, no waiting to be served, the food impeccable and the staff brilliant. We will be returning !!

Called in without booking and had not been before. Very friendly waitress quickly took us to a table in the small restaurant. A good menu, plenty of good choices. The food was delicious. All homemade. We had to try a pudding and the chocolate brownie was to die for ! Highly recommend and we will certainly go there again, when next in the area.

My mate and I went there yesterday after the remembrance ceremony. We ordered our beers and when we went to pay the barmaid said it was free for veterans! What a wonderful gesture. Thank you so much Jason and the team.

The steak and ale pie was excelent,best i have ever eaten.

We visited on Wednesday 18/10/2023. It was our first visit but it won’t be the last. Everything was perfect, the food, presentation and the setting. The staff were excellent, although they were busy we were well looked after. I would highly recommend this place.

Food was very tasty and portion sizes were amazing. My 4 year old enjoyed his food just too much of it. The service was great, staff were friendly and seemed happy. The reason I gave 3 stars for atmosphere is because it is very cramped and as a disabled person it was a bit uncomfortable.

We stumbled across this place after a day at YWP, we arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday it was Full we managed to get the Last table sitting in the bar, we were starving hungry so just ordered the first thing on the menu - Homemade Beef & Ale pie mash & peas, it was Beautiful The staff were welcoming friendly & helpful. This was a real find

Visited for the first time and was pleasantly surprised after reading reviews on the way there. Service was good and there were plenty of staff on duty, not like a lot of other places these days. The food was great and the portion sizes very generous. We will definitely be visiting again in the near future. Only negative point if being really picky would be the glass place mats and coasters. Plates swivel about when you're trying to cut your food and coasters don't absorb drips. Oh, and a bit of background music in the restaurant wouldn't go amiss. Overall an enjoyable experience and can't wait to try some of the other dishes which we saw going out.
