Eagle & Child in Doncaster

Turned up, 6 people, admittedly it was quite busy, but lots of 4 people tables they could have added chairs to (which they seemed to have managed to do to fit in a table of about 16) - simply couldn't be bothered / were being lazy and said they couldn't fit us in despite the obvious space - wouldn't come here again given the lazy, sullen and rude staff.

Very poor meal tonight. Booked a table for 6pm for a treat for my partner. Meal took 45 mins to arrive. Salmon was still raw. Chips were like crispy bits you usually find in a bag of frozen chips. My partner had finished his meal and my replacement salmon had not arrived by this time. The bar staff were very appologetic but would have been more professional if the chef had acknowledged their part in this very disappointing meal.

My two beautiful friends had made arrangements for lunch to celebrate my birthday, I had to wear a large badge with 65 on, a youngman bought the menu on a chalk board an put it on a chair close to us. I suddenly felt old but we all had a good laugh. Enjoyed lunch, great value for money and the staff were brilliant. Will dine there again.

Called at lunch today could have booked a table in the restaurant but it was short notice. The pub was packed so we waited for 10 minutes for a table. The service and food was amazing. I had the Jamaican jerk lamb😋

A classic british pub with a great seasonal menu,. The regularly changing specials board adds a twist to the regular fare also. Sometimes consider the Kangaroo burger or rabbit pie, but usually plump for the Hunters Chicken, burger or lasagne. Can't go wrong either way + a nice selction of ales. All reasonably priced.

We were a party of 12 celebrating a family birthday. All the party enjoyed their meals, good friendly service and exceptional value.

Lovely pub to go for a meal, the food was very good . We had to wait quite a while for it but it was a very busy Saturday night. You need to book in advance for Saturdays.

Went for a birthday lunch and we all had a great meal. Choice and quality is fantastic. Portion sizes are massive so plan an afternoon nap after lunch!

Came here after finding it on trip advisor as we were staying in the area. It was really busy however there was one table left in the bar area. Nice choice on the menu and all reasonably priced. Food good , staff all friendly and we enjoyed our evening.

We called for a meal as we have done so manually times usually very nice food and staff. Well, they must have been having a bad day or we were just unlucky as I stated before myself and my partner have eaten here loads of time before and never a problem or if there was it was rectified straight away. I told them my steak was overcooked, so a nice little waitress took my plate, apologised, and told me she would get it sorted out. Then she came back with my plate without my steak told me they would cook another one while I ate the rest of my meal I declined politely and asked for it all to be brought our together I got a very cold response. Then my partner asked if they could redo his meal as the steak chicken and grilled tomatoes were overdone. The next thing we new was a waiter that has been there for some time came out and asked what was wrong with our meals as to him they were perfectly done (sorry customer should know how they like there food cooked) he asked what part of the meal wasn't right and then he would refund that part, I must admit my partner was not very happy with this so I told said waiter to speak to me which he did but eas not happy with what I had told him about the meal. I said we would wait for it to be cooked again as I didn't want my money back but he refused saying there was nothing wrong with any of it. Then when he didn't get what he wanted he stormed off saying we were not worth it (great customer service guys lady behind bar said they are told to say that again way to fo guys. The waiter told rje last behind the bar my partner has spat in his face never in hos life would he have done that to anyone disgusting We eventually got our money back but £3 short I would have preferred to have my meal rectified and none of the animosity. They would of been happy and so would we. I know I will get a very curt and scathing reply judging from what they have replied to the other negative comments on here but there we go. I'm just sorry it had to come to.this as this was the first meal we have ever had a problem with.

Visited this lovely venue with both family and friends recently. Warmth of welcome, quality of food and service received all get 10 out of 10.

Great pub & consistently good food. Very reasonably priced as well for the quality & quantity you get. Would definitely recommend.

Had Sunday Lunch it was amazing. We returned tonight I had the Cajun chicken pasta. My partner had the blade off beef. Both was delecious. It was nice to see Trifle on the special s board. You often don’t see Trifle anymore on the sweets menu. Yet again delecious. I hope you keep doing the trifle. All the staff lovely xxx

Popped on for dinner after a full day our locally on New Year’s Day. The staff were really friendly. The lass behind the bar with dark hair was super smiley and had a laugh so was super warming on our arrival. The food was delicious, proper home cooked pub food. Kids portions had nice options too and a good size for the older kids. The steak and ale pie was amazing, so much meat in it and what I’d call a proper pie! Will definitely pop back if we are ever in the area again.

What a great find! This just looks like a standard local, but the food is just amazing! The service is second to none and the quality of food for the price paid is great! Staff are helpful and there is a great selection of beers and wines. Definitely worth a visit!

Lovely meal here last Wednesday with friends, had the senior menu which I must say was plenty for us, hate wasting 0food, had the lasagne served with garlic bread , it was very tasty , well presented, great atmosphere, good service, will most certainly be back 😋

The Eagle and Child is a warm, friendly and inviting pub. We went for a Christmas lunch and we’re really spoilt. I have never tasted such tasty soup, the main was turkey with all the trimmings, dessert was warm waffle with ice cream and chocolate sauce, mine was tiramisu although there were plenty of puddings including Christmas pud available. The service was first class, no waiting to be served, the food impeccable and the staff brilliant. We will be returning !!

Called in without booking and had not been before. Very friendly waitress quickly took us to a table in the small restaurant. A good menu, plenty of good choices. The food was delicious. All homemade. We had to try a pudding and the chocolate brownie was to die for ! Highly recommend and we will certainly go there again, when next in the area.

My mate and I went there yesterday after the remembrance ceremony. We ordered our beers and when we went to pay the barmaid said it was free for veterans! What a wonderful gesture. Thank you so much Jason and the team.

Lovely meal with friends good service

The steak and ale pie was excelent,best i have ever eaten.

We visited on Wednesday 18/10/2023. It was our first visit but it won’t be the last. Everything was perfect, the food, presentation and the setting. The staff were excellent, although they were busy we were well looked after. I would highly recommend this place.

We stumbled across this place after a day at YWP, we arrived at 6pm on a Tuesday it was Full we managed to get the Last table sitting in the bar, we were starving hungry so just ordered the first thing on the menu - Homemade Beef & Ale pie mash & peas, it was Beautiful The staff were welcoming friendly & helpful. This was a real find

Food was very tasty and portion sizes were amazing. My 4 year old enjoyed his food just too much of it. The service was great, staff were friendly and seemed happy. The reason I gave 3 stars for atmosphere is because it is very cramped and as a disabled person it was a bit uncomfortable.

Visited for the first time and was pleasantly surprised after reading reviews on the way there. Service was good and there were plenty of staff on duty, not like a lot of other places these days. The food was great and the portion sizes very generous. We will definitely be visiting again in the near future. Only negative point if being really picky would be the glass place mats and coasters. Plates swivel about when you're trying to cut your food and coasters don't absorb drips. Oh, and a bit of background music in the restaurant wouldn't go amiss. Overall an enjoyable experience and can't wait to try some of the other dishes which we saw going out.

Myself and husband called at the Eagle an Child on Saturday tea time for food .we bought drinks and sat down on a very small round table near the door , My husband went to the bar an ordered a jacket potato for myself and garlic mushrooms and a steak and kidney pudding On arrival of the mains my husband found the end of a blue glove in his food we told the staff who whisked away the food mine included as I felt physically sick they came back to the table and pushed 20 pounds and 20pence in my husband's hand we left leaving our drinks and feeling very very sick and underwhelmed. I sent a email to The Eagle and child and got no apology nothing disgusting will never return

Last time we were here I gave a good review This time 3 months later .very disappointed We ordered fish & chips from special board mine was fine for a reduced price menu My wife.s fish was pertheticly small ..when asked .we complained about this .and got the "SORRY BOUT THAT " attitude ... The place was almost empty at 12.00 noon this may tell a story.

Excellent service, great food, our go to place if we go south!

Love this place and it's beer. Popped in for a drink after shopping with my lady wife, I had a couple of pints of Black Sheep and my wife had a nicely chilled white wine. A nice, well run village pub with a lovely atmosphere.

Food came out Luke warm Sunday roast for 3 of us asked to have it hot which they took back time that came out the veg was cool so asked to have it warmed one meal they just fetched meat and mash and yorkie for daughter in law no veg or gravy so had to send hers back as it had gone cold another 7 to 8 mins went by fetch mine out daughter was that hugrey she just ate her meat and mash so fetch new plate she only had runner beans and a carrot and swede mash but we seen other diners when collie and another veg but hay ho so again daughter in law was left no gray there was 9 of us four in our party and 5 in there’s so ordered separate so after what seemed ages we had to ask for gravy there reply was we fetched one out but me and daughter had used that very rudely the main waitress got very nasty saying her kids had just had Sunday roast and there’s was hot by this time I’m getting really annoyed not I’m sorry or even a slight apology then too it off there was cling film in the veg which my daughter nearly choked on it I’ll never go back and we had some nice times there

Rude bar staff for no reason I was polite and courteous must of been my face normally I have no problems here made me feel worse about myself as I already do as she was extremely rude

Been coming to the Eagle and Child quite often since moving back to Doncaster 7 years ago and I have never had a bad meal.

Proper homemade food! Called here after a visit to the Yorkshire Wildlife park for our tea before we set off back home. So much to choose from that I couldn't decide what to have! In the end I had chicken and mushroom pasta in a creamy sauce with garlic ciabatta. The garlic bread was to die for but stupidly I gave a piece to my hubby to have with his food! Hubby had king prawns in a garlic and chilli/ginger sauce(can't remember exactly!)which was also very nice. Son had a chicken tikka curry with rice and naan bread which he enjoyed although it might have been a little spicier than what he is used to. Lots of chunky chicken pieces in both our meals. Would certainly recommend visiting, it's just a shame it's too far from us to visit regularly! Also had a very nice large glass of rosė blush which was super cold, it went down very easily! Quite a popular pub with locals and plenty of people coming into eat. Plenty of young staff on duty who were all pleasant.

Nice pub with quite ok food. All staff were very friendly and it had nice atmosphere. Would come back to try their curry as curry sauce on some of the starters was delicious. I wish they has better choices of soft drinks like simple sparkling water. I would recommend for a lovely evening with family or friends.

Recommended by a local so was very keen to have a go. friendly welcome when arrived got led to our table we ordered our food,homemade steak and ale pie with chips and mushy peas, pie was lovely filled with succulent beef 👍🏼chips where nice and plenty but the mushy peas where poor very wet and bland not very appealing. Overall it was ok but won't be back.

We love it here and when we are visiting family we always come for a food and drinks. The play area outside is lovely for the children and the food is delicious 😋

The pub has lovely gardens with a kids play area at the back. My husband ordered chicken burger which he said was very nice as it was proper chicken. I had haloumi burger which wasn't very tasty. A nice pub and would visit again.

Booked a table at lunchtime for our 50th anniversary of meeting. We began with a delicious prawn cocktail followed by Steaks (cooked perfectly) , chips, peas, tomato, home cooked onion rings and pepper sauce. It was all excellent. We enjoyed a good bottle of merlot...

This was the first time I had come to the pub and I will definitely be retuning. The staff were very welcoming and the quality of food was fantastic.

Great experience. We just came from the wonderful wildlife park up the road and just randomly found this pub on line. First impressions was that the outside was well presented, clean and had a great sized car park. Staff friendly on arrival and were efficient...

Disappointed. Kids serving in the dining room with the attitude of not wanting to be at work and especially one boy was very rude. We had to ask for them to take the order, never asked if the meal was ok and you have guessed it if we wanted a dessert. The food was mediocre , the chicken special was very dry. They even missed off the cranberry sauce on the special and one of the young lads said I had ordered it without but we never mentioned anything of the sort. Unfortunately we won’t be dining here again until the kindergarten goes

Great home cooked food. Friendly environment. Gorgeous sun trapped beer garden. Lots of special boards not just off menu. Worth a visit.

Needs 6 stars really - I can't believe that I forgot to take one of my much-looked-at pics of great food. Fabulous response to fit in a party of 7 at short notice and then to produce, very quickly, a set of quite superb meals. If you're on the M18 or A1M near Doncaster, check it out for yourself!

We arrived just before 12.00pm, we didn't pre book but managed to get a table, restaurant was fully booked but we sat in the bar area. Very busy and we took this as a good sign. Good menu choice and when food arrived it was delicious. Staff were very efficient and very friendly. We will definitely be going back.

First visit in quite a while, but it hardly seems to have changed. Excellent and very busy. Had to book a meal for 5pm on a Thursday because that's the only time they had. And the pub was already busy. If you want food, you may well be better off booking in advance. Great food and good selection of excellently kept cask beers.
