What an amazing pub that clearly has an amazing chef with excellent front of house staff. We went there on consecutive evenings as the food choice was so broad and so good we had to go again to have something different.

First visit and will be back. Friendly service and good food. Belly pork bao buns to start were very tasty probably the best starter I’ve had for a very long time. For main course I had the pie with chips and mushy peas, the pie pastry was slightly dry however was filled to the brim with tender tasty meat. Nice homemade chips and well seasoned, mushy peas slightly disappointing tasted as they were from a tin. The stuffed chicken also looked nice and very well presented. The birra moretti was a good pint, however £3 for a small Diet Coke very pricey in my opinion. All in all great little village pub on the out skirts of retford, will be back soon!

The couple who run this pub used to be at the Sun inn, not to be confused with the Old Sun, in Retford and what a sad loss they are, it’s a ten minute drive to Arkham for us but well worth it, the food is delicious and the service first class, very pleasant surroundings and we can’t wait to go in the winter in the hope the real fires are burning, definitely our favourite place to eat.

Stopped here for lunch on a drive from Northumberland to Suffolk. They had good COVID measures throughout. The food was good, I had the burger which was delicious and my husband had the fish pie. There was a good selection to choose from as well as the Sunday Lunch roast options. They had a very clever high chair for our son which allowed him to sit at the table.

Having seen the great reviews that the Duke William at Askham have been receiving of late we booked for Sunday lunch and we weren’t disappointed – quite the opposite! We received a warm welcome from the young man behind the bar and an even warmer welcome from Sara, a delightful, bubbly and friendly Italian for whom nothing was too much trouble. Sara and her partner (the chef) moved from London and took over the pub just 3 months ago and they’ve done wonders. The décor is modern but cosy and relaxing. We were torn whether to sit in the beautiful restaurant or in the cosy bar area – the open fire in the bar won us over! The menu wasn’t massive but every single item on the menu appealed to us both and everything was freshly cooked to order. Most dishes were Italian and a few were English with an Italian twist. Our starter of spicy prawns on a bed of cauliflower was divine! (sounds an odd combination, but it was one of the best things I have eaten in a long while). My Sunday roast of slow-roasted pork with herbs was very thinly sliced but a generous portion, accompanied by delicious baked Mediterranean vegetables, roast potatoes and oodles of gravy, all with a delicious garlicky undertone. My husband went for the Seafood Pasta dish which looked and tasted amazing with generous amounts of prawns, squid and salmon. Fabulous. Sadly we were far too full for desserts but Sara very kindly offered us a delicious Limoncello digestif on the house. The Italian ‘twist’ in a pretty English pub works brilliantly – a wonderful change from the usual pub menus. Our welcome, service and food all deserve and get a 10/10 from us! Thank you Sara - we will return soon! x

Been here a few times in the evening but today was the first time we’d been for Sunday lunch. Wow! The complimentary pizza slices with bolognese whilst we were waiting was just great. The breaded shrimp and the bruschetta, just divine; especially the broccoli and lemon sauce accompanying the shrimp. The lasagne that followed was sublime but the roast pork, Italian style......what a triumph! Served in a huge bowl, tender slices of pork with rosemary on a bed of courgette, carrot and onion, five proper roast spuds; all in a rich meaty gravy with lashings of olive oil. I don’t like spinach and am not keen on broccoli, but we agreed that the spinach and broccoli cannelloni was the dish of the day. Rich but light with lots of Parmesan and tomato to supplement the beautiful cannelloni filling. Dessert? Not a chance after that lot! The Montepulciano Abbruzo went down well again, with the log fires keeping us warm, toasty and nicely relaxed. What a place this is! Great food cooked by Maurice, fabulous service from Sam and Sara and great craic from the locals. We will be back; again and again, no doubt.

We visited The Duke William after trying to find somewhere closer to Retford. This was worth the short drive. The food was really good and the team couldn't do enough for us - even asking which shape pasta we would prefer! We really enjoyed it, massive portions - we were too full for dessert. 100% recommend.

Fourth time here since new Italian owners took over. Visited New Years Eve for an early dinner before the celebrations began. Once again we enjoyed stunningly authentic Italian food. The bruschetta was the best we’d had outside of Italy and the homemade pasta was delicious. The accompanying Montepulciano Abruzzo red wine was the perfect accompaniment to the food. The service and attention from Sara and Sam was spot on- warm, friendly and efficient. I can’t recommend the Duke highly enough. Suffice to state that we will be back.......and soon!

We were pleasantly blown away by our visit here last night. We expected just good pub grub but no! This place has just been taken over 2 months ago by Italian landlords. Oh my word! Food was spectacular, high end Italian food. We had the ragu, where buy the beef wasn’t just your average mince meat, this was large cuts slow cooked creating like a pulled beef dish! I had the seafood recommendation that Sam our fantastic waiter recommended. It said on the menu which is market dependant that it was salmon and squid but in actual fact the fresh seafood was octopus instead of squid. Cooked right (which this was) it tasted and had the texture of just the same as squid. Soft tasty and a fabulous dish. After long talks with the owners as we are very interested in people and there love of food like us, they explained that there menu is small and they have no freezer space in the kitchen. So it’s all cooked fresh. They even make there own fresh mozzarella! Wow! We tried the smoked mozzarella. Now these are the type of people I will support when they have a love of food like this! The wine was also fabulous after being allowed to taste a few at the table for our enjoyment. Sara the new owner even gave us a digestif on the house as we left. I’ve booked to go back Friday with my family because it was that good ❤️

We attended this evening as family with our 10 year old boy. The staff were very welcoming and we were showed through to the restaurant. We have been previously and the food was fantastic, we were therefore a little concerned when they said there was a new chef. However, we couldn’t have been more wrong. The menu was varied, and the food was truly excellent. Amongst our party we had mussels, steak and duck, which were all cooked to perfection. The lady that served us was attentive but not overbearing. She was very good with our boy, ensuring he was enjoying his food and that it was suitable for him. On such a cold evening it was also lovely to have all the fires lit, very warm and cosy! Thank you for a lovely evening, we will definitely be returning!

We had a Sunday Lunch - Starters were very good, roast beef was "melt in your mouth tender" the lamb was not so good too undercooked and not a well sliced portion of meat on the plate but Yorkshire pudding and fresh vegetables were excellent. Condiments had to be asked for with the meal and no serving spoons arrived with the vegetable side dishes, shame really as that is sort of basic service you expect, still chef / kitchen provided good food.

It’s amazing how a change of chef can completely change a place , we have been twice earlier in the year and it was fantastic, superb food and very attentive staff. This time was completely different, a similar menu but really average dishes my pie shared the same sauce as my wife’s tagliatelle and the chips were undercooked and greasy .

This is a small country pub in a tiny village, the atmosphere is welcoming and the food is of an excellent standard. We live in a village close by and visit Duke William frequently together and with friends and family, the menu varies with a good specials board and is always beautifully cooked and presented and excellent value for money. The staff are lovely and witty and some of them are really young but are very good at their customer service. I would highly recommend this for its food and atmosphere.

After reading the positive reviews posted on here ,we were really looking forward to our dining experience at the Duke, however must say it was really disappointing. The food was very bland with no seasoning at all.had a pint of Guinness ,on ordering the second discovered it was canned ,£3.50 for a can "really" We left disillusioned and feeling that the chef must have been on a night off.Only plus point was serving staff and proper chips not oven ready rubbish. Will not be returning.

We always like going to this place as the staff are friendly, they keep nice beer and the Nemesis Chocolate pudding is legendary. As veggies there is always a couple of choices, but, if you are a veggie you will know this feeling - there are only a couple of choices on the menu and they don't change the menu very often.Whilst the food is always spot on, the choice of veggie food lacks imagination. Come on guys, it really isn't that hard is it? Veggie food is simple and the ingredients don't kill you if they are a little out of date. And guess what? If you get it right the meat eaters will choose it as well. That said, if you do eat meat and you don't go that often, I'm sure this place is just perfect. Lovely valentines night out with the missus and as always they are really nice to you.

Nice pub which was tastefully decorated. Chef was in the bar area eating his tea when we arrived. Got a drink and was seated at our table. Only issue we had was you could hear the chef moaning in the kitchen that we'd interrupted his tea, made us feel a bit awkward to be fair. He then came out and had a couple of goes at staff, this sort of thing shouldn't take place at front of house - it's not what a paying customer wants to experience! Food was pleasant, but overall experience leaves a lot to be desired.

Dropped in as an impromptu idea. Children's menu along with the adults food and drink meant we could have a family evening. Toys, crayons, colouring sheet all for the kids so the adults could relax too! Tapas. Order 3 dishes each and share, would be my advice as they are just a nice size to do that with. That was this visit, at other times we have had burger and other main choices. Quality has always been the good and the service whilst perculiar to Rondo's is good; when ordering via the weblinked table QR code. You can order at the bar if required too, I've done that in the past.

We recently had our wedding at this venue. I can honestly say we could not fault a thing. Elizabeth and Beth was extremely accommodating of our requests and made sure the day run extremely smoothly. The food was beautiful and wedding guests dietary requirements was all met. The venue and grounds are fabulous. A large group of family and friends joined us the next day for Sunday dinner to continue to celebrations, staff accommodated our large group and the food was lovely once again.
