We all ordered our main course and were asked if we wanted chips and salad which we all said yes. I ordered chicken all a creme which was a chicken breast on the plate with sauce. 2 of us weren’t given chips so we asked if the dishes came with chips because the guy who took our order asked us if we wanted them. The young girl disappeared and came back with one portion of chips and said my chicken didn’t come with chips. So I paid £17.50 for a chicken breast in sauce. She asked if I’d like some chips they would cook me some but none were brought out. I haven’t visited for years because it wasn’t nice anymore and I will never return. Absolute robbery.

Average food with inflated prices, the chips were definitely not home cooked but fresh out of a freezer bag! Scampi was very nice but missing peas & frozen chips spoilt it!

My partner and I visited for breakfast whilst staying locally and we both had ‘The Full Dudley’. Easily one of the best cooked breakfasts we have had- it was delicious! Great quality ingredients. The lady who served us was so welcoming and made a real fuss of our dog, (which he loved!). Would recommend to anyone- just wish we lived nearer!

Couldn’t fault the staff at all with the service they provided, we were there at 5pm so it was quiet and the staff really did look after us. There was a couple of flies flying around which put us off enjoying our food as we kept having to swat them away which is a shame. Enjoyed the parmos but the chips were a let down, these clearly weren’t home made and came from the freezer, which is a shame when you are paying country pub prices. The pie could have been filled more as when the crust had been taken off it looked sad.l and empty. The burger was really tasty but again let down by the chips. Steak was sadly on the fatty/chiewer side and wasn’t fully eaten. Again staff fantastic but food was a let down!

The Dudley Arms is one of these amazing places that never seems to let you down in any way. We have visited three times over the last few months and all the visits have been exceptional. You get a very warm welcome from all staff members and the pub/restaurant are both very traditional and very cosy. Steaks are always cooked to perfection, Ribs melted and fell off the bone, the Parmo is huge but very tasty, lamb cooked as asked and very high quality produce shines through. I adore they have oysters on the specials, one of my favourite dishes but all appetisers we have tried have all been lovely. This is a very special place and look forward to returning. Michael is a gentleman and the adorable Betty is just wonderful, she looks after everyone so well, and all the staff are the same. I wish everywhere had the high standard of food and service The Dudley Arms provides.

Haven't been in here for donkey's years. Came for a light lunch and found a good choice on offer. Staff very accommodating but the area we sat in was more like a cafe than a pub. The food itself was quite acceptable, not bad but not outstanding. The small chicken parmo was easily enough for me.

We had a meal here last night and think it's overpriced for what you get. It had been many years since we visited The Dudley Arms, but we had dinner there last night and it was one of the best meals we`ve had. Service was exceptional from as soon as you walked in, very friendly and welcoming staff and the restaurant was lovely and warm too and beautifully decorated. We sat upstairs and loved the feel of the whole place including the low beams which are clearly marked. Oysters and prawn appetisers were amazing, very fresh and tasty, 12oz fillet was perfectly cooked and full of flavour, rack of lamb with the nicest red wine sauce was beautiful, served exactly how I asked for it, and the steak pie was lovely, very filling. We were so impressed with everything. Already looking forward to going back again, a wonderful place and would highly recommend visiting.

It’s been a long time since my last visit and I was a shocked to find the inside had been converted into a soulless interior reminiscent of a Morrisons cafe, the restaurant wasn’t open so we sat on the uncomfortable little wooden chairs for our lunch but worse was still to come. We ordered the blooming onion to share however the ‘petals’ hadn’t opened so it was large clumps of onion that we couldn’t break off and ended up using a knife to dissect the blooming thing. The garlic mayo was excellent, the BBQ sauce was watery. My husband ordered a steak board . It came on a plate and the portions were tiny.. One very small steak, a small tub of chips, some salad and some coleslaw. The steak somehow tasted of fish as if it had been cooked in the same pan. Nice salad dressing, I ordered a ploughmans which consisted of a small tub of pate, some sticks of celery which were past their best, cheese, 4 small picked onions, 3 pickled onions, 3 slices of apple and some spiced chutney which tasted exactly like cold tikka masala sauce. I asked for a more traditional relish and they brought some onion marmalade which was better and 2 slices of slightly grey looking ham which didnt taste of much. The whole meal appeared tired and tasted stale . The bread was the best part as that at least was fresh . I can’t fault the service but the meals really were substandard. We didn’t bother with desserts and went to another local cafe for those and coffee. Read less

Staff are lovely. Unfortunately I've had better food in a supermarket cafe. Steak baguette, fried onions and Stilton with chips and salad. Bread was supposed to be toasted, came out like a lump of white soggy dough, filled with soaking wet boiled onions that were supposed to be fried. No hint of Stilton. Had to search to find 4 small strips of overcooked Steak beneath the onions. Chips limp and soggy. Salad wet through. Worst lunch I have ever tried to consume. Will never return. Absolute waste of money. 28/10/2023.

We visited here early evening on a Saturday. We were seated immediately. Starters - Flowering onion. This was smaller than what we remembered from a few years ago, but once we had finished it realised it was perfect size and anything else would have been eaten just because it was there! Tasted delicious and was the main reason we came back again! 100% recommend. Mains - Rump steak (cooked blue) - yes I am that person most people turn their nose up when you say blue, haha - cooked perfectly. Was delicious. I couldn't manage it all it as it was huge (so my partner had 1.5 steaks!). Best steak I have had in a very long time! Porterhouse steak (cooker medium rare) - was beautifully cooked. Couldn't fault it at all. The Diane sauce was delicious. Can not fault anything from this meal, 100% recommend. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

We went tonight for a birthday meal and we won’t be returning. The staff are fine but not the most pleasant or enthusiastic. We ordered potato skins and the flowering onion for starter - the onion was bland and the potato skins were inedible, they were tough, hard and we couldn’t even chew them. The homemade bbq sauce is the strangest thing, the onions in it are undercooked and it tastes nothing like bbq. But that’s by the by. The gentleman did come and apologise about the potato skins and said it was a problem with the potato season. But I’ve literally just seen a review from January that had the same problem as us, so who knows. My parents then had the pan fried cod and chips, one had the regular one had the large and there was a £4 difference in the two. There was literally no difference at all in the portion of fish or accompaniments. They did say that the cod was lovely however. My husband has the parmo and it was fine, but the chips were nothing flash. Not proper chunky pub chips anyway. I ordered steak pie and the filling was awful. It was grey and watery in colour and it was so tasteless. Everyone else tried it to make sure I wasn’t over reacting but it was shocking. I didn’t eat it and again they removed it (and the skins) from the bill, but by then all I had eaten was a bread bun and some mediocre chips. We weren’t asked if we wanted anymore drinks, my Dad asked for a pint and they said yeah and walked off but didn’t give the rest of us chance to ask for a drink. They then got the drinks order wrong. We asked for lemon and lime and they brought pints rather than asking what we wanted - mind you at £4 for a lemon and lime there’s no wonder! As a family of 4 we had one flowering onion, two cod, one parmo, 2 pints, 4 soft drinks and a J20 and it was £80, because they knocked off the skins and pie which was an additional £20. We were really disappointed and would definitely not recommend.

Let me start by saying girls on the front of house are fab. The place looks clean, toilets clean. Unfortunately the food let it down. I ordered the rare Steak board...it arrived.. on a plate, I sliced into it and it was medium to be generous. The lady with glasses and a fringe was lovely and apologised, offering it to be redone. I was given a fresh one, cooked correctly but by the time it had come my husband had almost finished his fish and chips and half a shared side. Take 2..I ate my steak, attempted to eat some of the chips to find a light blonde hair about 4 inches entangled In my chips. I gave up and my husband paid the £45 bill. Really dissatisfied

Fantastic pub and cafe - this place was recommended to us, as we were staying for a few days in the local area, whilst celebrating our wedding anniversary. Dudley Arms have dog friendly areas for eating, but dogs are not allowed in the restaurant - so if you prefer an environment without dogs you are equally well catered for. Our first visit was for breakfast in Cafe 1756 and we were not disappointed. Made to feel very welcome. Lovely food (good quality produce, homemade hash browns-delicious). Food was served quickly and really hot. Staff were really friendly. We enjoyed the breakfast so decided to try again for evening meal and not disappointed. This was served in the pub rather than the Cafe. We had Rump steak and Beef Stroganoff both were delicious. The steak was cooked exactly as requested. There was not a long wait for food service and the staff were again very attentive. There was a large party eating in the restaurant at the same time but we were not abandoned or forgotten. Our final visit was for Sunday lunch - we both chose the beef. Once again we were not disappointed. No delay in food service, a very generous portion of quality roast beef and seasonal vegetables. Again staff were very attentive and our dog was made very welcome. Every member of staff we encountered were all pleasant and welcoming but I would particularly like to mention the excellent service provided by Niamh and Megan who were our main servers during our visits. I would highly recommend the Dudley Arms and look forward to returning for our next visit for a great meal and excellent value.

We were in today and had a lovely Sunday lunch and all the staff were amazing except for one who was wearing a black top with puffy sleeves, when we did she her she seemed to be doing the bare minimum and laid over the bar whenever we came though, the other staff were clearing tables and working and getting their jobs done as quickly and efficiently as possible and we saw her just doing the easier jobs and asking others to do things she could have easily done her self. Overall we had a good time the lazy worker just seemed to upset the atmosphere a bit.

We went as heard good reviews, especially about the flowering onion which people recommended. We had this and the potato skins for starter. Onion was delicious but the potato skins were a bit hard but ate as they were tasty. We were at the end of the meal when we realised all other tables getting seated had been given bread for the table - we hadn’t and weren’t offered any either.I ordered Parmo (which was huge, good value for money) but the salad I ordered with it didn’t turn up at all. My husband ordered the Steak Pie which was amazing, the steak was delicious and very tender but when asked for some gravy to go with the mash and veg it took a while to come - he’d finished the veg and some of the mash before it turned up. The food was really good, no complaints at all and really good value, just felt a bit forgotten about, would only give 3 out of 5 for the service. Very romantic pub though and candles on each table, food was lovely and would go back to again.

Booked with a group and lots of expectation given great sounding menu. Prices suggest that this will be a quality dining experience - higher end gastro pub.Deep-fried flower onion really enjoyed. Special crab morney was expensive as disappointing - clearly taken the 'dressed' crab that was also on offer and just added a hefty cheese sauce- sickly & heavy clash. For main course, tough and flavourless meat - could be the cooking or quality of the meat. Waited ages for drinks. Menu way too large for quality to be possible. Prices far too high for the basic 'pub grill' offer. Lovely 'old hall' feel on several levels but seriously lacked atmosphere - austere lighting, furniture/decor - bit tired, lacks class, given the prices. Witnessed them deal with a complaint really well and this is important. Service was not good, but sensed majority of young waiting staff (all lovely) were new and clearly hadn't been properly instructed or delegated to - not their fault and not fun for they them, I imagine.

I visited this pub on 18/09/2021 with my family for a birthday meal and have to say we were very disappointed. We had 2 club steaks that were completely tasteless and unseasoned. Fish soup that was devoid of 2 of the items on the menu, salmon and white fish. The special that I had was a rack of lamb? The photo clearly shows this was not a rack of lamb but a trio of small lamb cutlets. This cost £23.00, seriously!! This is completely false advertising. The only thing out of the 7 meals that was enjoyed was the home made burger. The chips were not home made chips but appeared to be fries that were bland and tough. We decided to try a couple of the deserts to see if we could take some enjoyment of the meal away with us. They were both very small and one was completely burnt to the bottom of the plate and my daughter was unable to get her spoon through it. I did mention all these issues to the waiting staff and they advised they would pass on our comments but no further response was received. Obviously we would not return here or recommend it to anyone.

All COVID friendly and good social distancing. Staff were excellent and attentive, lovely food and the sharing flowering onion for starters was just as scrummy as it’s always been. Definitely worth patronising when they have gone to so much trouble. Will be back again very soon thank you

We went for Sunday lunch today, was really looking forward to it.. although the food was nice, the service was terrible! We were seated at 1.30pm, half an hour later we placed our order, half an hour our food came. We asked for more vegetables and gravy as there was 5 adults having the Sunday lunch and we only got one small bowl of cauliflower cheese and a small bowl of mixed vegetables and one gravy boat.. between 5, safe to say we’d finished out meals and were still waiting for the extra we had asked for. Desserts were lovely. Just seemed like there was no staff! We were in the building a good two and a half hours, most of that waiting to place orderers. Also, when the bill finally came, they’d charged us for an extra ice cream which we didn’t have and two cappuccinos which we didn’t order! Good job we checked!! All in all, nice food, the staff were canny even if they were very slow and the building itself was nice. COVID rules were kept to which was reassuring.

Called today just on the off chance... The place has had a total overhaul whilst been closed and looks amazing. They now open early for breakfast etc as one of the bars has been turned into a very elegant coffee shop, with plenty of outside seating. We had a full English breakfast sat in the glorious sunshine, I can quite honestly say it is probably the best we've had anywhere. Piping hot, quality products at sensible prices. The staff were 1st class and well trained especially with the covid restrictions, nothing was to much trouble for them. Well done to everyone for your amazing work...

We went here for evening meal whilst walking the Cleveland way and we weren’t disappointed. We both opted for the home made steak pie which was superb. Full of tasty meat and puff pastry topping. I enjoyed mine with veg, where as hubby chose chips with his. Wine was delicious too. COVID friendly , staff very pleasant. Would definitely recommend

Four of us went to the Dudley last night and the food was delicious. I had the jumbo cod in batter the fish was lovely and white and chunky with a light crispy batter.. They have done a great job of making the place covid safe with lots of stations with hand sanitiser and plenty of space between tables. Will be going back soon.

Friendly service, delicious food. Chap in check shirt (possibly the manager?) had no clue about the menu. The soup of the day should be easy to remember! Would have been nice to have had a jug of water and glasses brought straight away.

My wife and I had a lovely 3 course Sunday lunch. I have dined 4 times in the last 4 weeks in 4 different restaurants this was the best. Reasons. Staff were friendly and helpful . Food was lovely. Recently refurbished. Quaint. But most importantly this is the safest dining experience in this Covid world we are now in that we have had since we started dining again. We were sat separate on a 6 seater table, and on a different level, and we saw another 2 couples similarly seated. These people are taking your safety seriously they deserve your support.

Loving where our ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ Tour is taking us On Monday, 5 of us went to @thedudleyarms in Ingleby Greenhow. Staff 10/10Atmosphere 10/10Food 10/10Starters consisted of Potato Skins, Soup of the day (Cockaleekie) and the Chicken Wings that we’re on the specials menu. For main we had the Steak and Ale Pie, Lasagne, Steak Sandwich, Parmo and a Fillet Steak. The portion sizes were huge and the quality was outstanding! The only negative was that the service was a little on the slow side in between courses, but overall it was a lovely evening.

Second visit this month, (it's pretty local to home).1st visit the food was spot on & piping hot, hubby said the best he'd eaten here, the only thing service was a little bit iffy, staff seemed lost, until a young man came on then things improved.Second visit, the staff were great, though the food wasn't quite up to it. There was only two tables occupied in the restaurant but there was quite a wait.It was all piping hot and good quality but, slightly over cooked ie. Potato skins very well done, steak well done when asked for medium rare.On saying that it was all enjoyable and wont put us off going again. But my big big bug bare is .....Staff waiting on with hair hanging loose, yes it might be lovely, shiny and clean, but not when your handling food,

Bistro was empty and yet we were stuck on a small table in a corner near the kitchen door. Food was disappointingly average and not what it used to be. Service also not so good. Had to go to bar for a drink as no staff around. Definitely lost its charm.

We went on a Saturday night (7/2/20) about 8pm for our Valentine's meal out as I had heard great things. My boyfriend had been before and really enjoyed his meal so he took me here for me to try.It was too busy to sit in the main area which was fine so we were told we can sit in the bistro, again no problem.Waited about half an hour before we were seated and food came soon after, bar one couple who were finishing up we were the only ones in the room.Starter came, potatoe skins to share. Horrible. Very over done and greasy. Mains came, I got chilli and it looked like a school dinner slapped on plate with a bit of rice. He ordered the same meal as he had enjoyed before and he said the chef must have changed or something because it wasn't the same. It was chicken with a mushroom sauce and that was it on the plate. The waiter left us and then we had to call him back over as he had forgotten the chips. The chips were not home made and were cold. The waiter did not come over to see if we wanted more drinks (glasses were practically empty when we left the bar to be seated). The waiters then started setting up for the next days Sunday dinners around us talking between themselves while we were the only people in the room and trying to eat which was just made us feel uncomfortable. We paid the bill and left as I just wanted to get out and home.Barmaid was lovely and I'm sure the young lads waiting were but it must have been a bad night.Wont be going back, they were busy in the other room but no excuse really they should have turned us away. Bad food and poor service. Wish i took a picture of the chilli!!

Hadn't been for years. Thought we'd try with the brother in law Mike and Mandy. Was Thursday night so we went for the 4 courser which was £17.90. The legendary flowering onion to start which was gorgeous as always. Starters we tried ranged from pate to moules marinier, all very nice. Mains three of us had steaks which were just about right size for a 4 courser (not too big where you struggle to eat all) and my wife had a pheasant dish - again all very nice, loads of chips with the steak.Desserts - three of us had the toffee apple crumble and 1 x had cheese board - again all very nice.Couldn't fault for value and the setting is very nice - staff all very friendly - would go again...

Two real alesWe had high hopes for this pub from its website but we didn't have a successful visit. Although we had great (if slightly expensive) food in pleasant surroundings it was all spoilt by having been served a beer which was less than a pint and having to ask for a topup, a drink in a hot glass, the staff getting a drinks order completely wrong which could have had serious implications for the driver and then charging us for the wrong drinks as well as the correct drinks, we had to ask to have them removed from the bill. We did receive an apology but it spoilt the evening a bit.Good parking and easy access if you park at the front

Went here for a Christmas meal with friends, not an overly large group, about 20 or so. The service was slow the food was poor, it took about two and a half hours from starter to pudding and the quantity and quality did not warrant such a gap.

We went to the Dudley Arms after a recommendation from a colleague. Unfortunately we must have hit a bad day. We ordered the squid and the mussels for our starters. The squid was very good but the mussels were bland and lacked flavour. As a side note, the mussels came in a very hot steamer that I wasn't warned about and I did get a burn when I tried to move it so please take care.

Really enjoyed the parmo, one of the best I’ve had in a while, we went for the 2 courses for 12 pound which was excellent value for money. My wife also enjoyed the parmo which came with a nice salad and home made chips. Chocolate fudge cake was very nice as was the sticky toffee trifle. Will definitely come back and try the Al le Carte menu in the future.

I have been here for the last 3 weeks on business for 2 nights a week, still 3 weeks to go 😀 Lovely welcome by everyone who has been on reception on all my visits, very helpful, friendly and they go that extra mile to help. The rooms I've stayed in so far are ( 2-10 and 31) which were very clean, cosy and well presented with everything you needed, Iron, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities. The only little issue was the shower door rollers kept coming loose, just life cycle replacement needs attention at some point. I could not fault any of the cleaning at all and that's very rare for me due to being a cleaning trainer for the NHS, hotels, schools and offices for 20 years. I meet some of the cleaning first thing on the morning and they were also very polite and always smiling. The bar area was comfortable, clean, all the staff are friendly and the food in the restaurant-bar is excellent, large portions, presented beautifully and very tasty...... 😋 I didn't have the breakfast , so i can't comment on that... Thank you so much for making me feel welcome, especially when I'm here on my own. I will miss coming here when my business in Northallerton comes to an end 😊

Latte coffee (with extra shot) allegedly large but certainly only medium, small piece of mass produced poor quality cake....£9.05 !!!!! Massively over priced. Waited to be seated and waited to give my order while the member of staff who should have been serving me filled in her paperwork and chatted with staff. My coffee when it arrived was covered in coffee grounds and was undrinkable. I took it back and the woman who served me was very polite apologised and served me quickly with another one. I must say she was the ONLY staff member who showed any customer care at all. If you want over priced drinks and cake along with a poor attitude from staff then pay them a visit. Otherwise I suggest giving them a wide berth!!

Visited as a couple 7 March. We were staying in the hotel. Ambience was good. The eating area could perhaps do with a bit of updating but it is fine. Menu is a mix of pub classics and more adventurous dishes. I had one of the latter as a starter, Lamb Tagine Roll with harissa mayo and smoked aubergine purée. Very good. The roll had chunks of lamb and the mayo had a kick. Tasted and presented very well. I had steak and ale pie for main. Appeared home made with real chips. Again very good Mrs W had the pork belly which she enjoyed too. We had a very nice bottle of NZ Sav Blanc as well. Very good value.
