Dalling & Co in Dacorum

Normally I am happy with the food and service at Dallings. My only previous observation is they do not display any food prices.....is that legal. Recently when visiting I noticed a young man with a moustache continually handling food with bare hands, while his senior collegue was correctly using plastic gloves. He then coughed into his hands while serving. He also stroked a dog, and did finally wash his hands under the tap, but no soap and for only a few seconds. I think proper hygiene training is due for staff handling food.

With more than an hour to spare while in Kings Langley High Street, I popped into Dalling Deli. I ordered a hot chocolate and asked if they had a gluten free cake. Charlotte behind the counter offered a choice of three. Impressive! I chose the lemon drizzle which was delicious. The hot chocolate, first and last image, speaks for itself. It was past 5.30pm and clearing up time so I took my tray through to the adjoining wine shop/bar. I believe it stays open until 9pm. Several people were drinking wine and there was a relaxed, happy atmosphere. I didn't get the name of the young man behind the bar, but he was courteous and helpful to people who came to buy or sit. Charming staff, lovely ambience and a broad range of great products. Definately worth a visit if you're in the neighbourhood. I'll certainly be back.

The Cafe is very cozy . Food is absolutely amazing . Charlotte makes the yummiest sandwiches and is super sweet , loved everything.

Always a great place for a coffee and something nice to eat, while I do my crossword!

Updated visit - Went for just a take away drink. Think you need a mortgage if you want to eat there seeing as a take away latte and hot chocolate was £9.10. I couldn't taste the gold that was obviously in it 😜 but wow, expensive. Service good. Clean. Good seating outside.

Have been here quite a veiw time s and always very very impressed with the service and the staff are always helpful and friendly and make you fill very welcome the coffee and cake are also very nice coffee is always hot keep up the great work. To Dalling deli team long may you stay

A very pleasant easy going place for a drink and snack or cake. Nice watching the world go by, sitting higher up than the main road going through the village. The only fault is the rubbish under the tables and tables need to be cleared as the customer leaves. Fag butts in the flower pots not cleared for many days or more.

Coffee machine needs a clean or something, just ordered a £4 take away coffee that I had to throw, tasted completely burnt

Excellent service, The tea was excellent. Lemon cake my sister had was the best. The staff were told.

The tapas was lovely, the staff chatty and friendly and the background music not too loud and we had a lovely evening. But we had a long delay trying to get the bill and it took three attempts to deduct the deposit correctly.

Claire and Jeff did the catering for our wedding. They were super flexible and helped us plan exactly what we wanted. Claire even helped us with decorations and lights. On the day the food and drinks were fantastic.

Hot chocolate was very nice. Delicious slice of chocolate and hazelnut cake which was huge (big enough to share.) Interesting place if you are a wine lover. Lots of bottles with great info labels. You can buy wine by the glass too and sit outside on a nice day and watch the world go by. Would definitely return.

Lovely local coffee shop combined with an off licence. Sometimes confusing whether to have a tasty coffee or a glass of wine.

Dallings is a fantastic venue for a chat, coffee, food and a great selection of alcoholic drinks if preferred. Staff are really helpful and efficient, always a great place to kick back and relax.

I have been lunching at Dallings over years since they opened, although not so frequently since the lockdown and wonder if Dallings is under new management, as a recent visit, showed a change of staff, not as friendly or welcoming. Change of menu, as no longer serving hot food and no prices displayed. The atmosphere is not as vibrant as before.

Great spot to sit and relax with a Coffee andd variety of freshly toasted sandwiches.

Popped in here for a sandwich and a coffee with my wife. Coffee was OK, sandwich was decidedly under filled and tasteless. Welcome was non existent. We felt like we were annoying the staff just by being there. Will never go again. Pretentious and lacklustre throughout. Oh and it was about 18 quid for two under filled thinly sliced beef sandwiches and two okay coffees. They clearly saw us coming.

Contact to see if it would be possible to deliver breakfast to my mother and father in law for my mother in laws 85 birthday. I was working and would not get to see her until weekend. They delivered the most amazing breakfast for delightful lush exceptional food . My in laws felt surprised and over the moon with food and delivery at 8.30 in morning. Can thanks everyone involved at dailings enough .

Pretty, you can sit outside . Ita always busy which is a shows it must be good. Nice selection of sandwiches, salads, cakes etc. Not the cheapest but it is Kings langley. Vegan options avaialable

Dalling is a wonderful place, Claire, Jeff and the team make you feel so welcome. We had our Wedding Reception here, and it was beautiful. Wonderful wine, great atmosphere. We regularly at Darling's. It's our happy place!

Visited with 7 friends, waitresses were fantastic hosts and very knowledgeable about wine and food, unlimited wine stocks, great prices. Food was amazing a brilliant selection. Definitely recommended.

We haven’t been here since pre-COVID and always thoroughly enjoyed eating here so decided to book for our ‘girls’ dinner this evening. Not disappointed, the food was delicious, I think we had one of everything between us and it was all served piping hot, not easy with so many different plates. The staff were all lovely but we were mainly served by Alice who is delightful! Pleasant, polite, professional and willing to hop up on a chair to take our picture from the best angle :) really pleased they still sell my favourite wine, Robertson Rosé. Ticked all the boxes this evening, can’t wait to go back.

Marvellous place to linger over coffee or lunch. You buy from the right-hand deli bit of the shop and can sit at a table in the left-hand side or out the front everything freshly made.

Fab almond croissant and coffee served by a guy with a great sense of humour. He kept us laughing for ages.

Food is great, coffee is good. I come here on Sundays specially for breakfast as it's very tasty. But unfortunately it takes way too long to queue up... and today I had a bad experience, not only that I queue up and took ages , but I was refused to place my order for a breakfast as it's not 10' o'clock yet., but hey.. it was 9:55,so why not just take my order and I'm happy to wait for the breakfast.( it's been done before ) So I was told I need to queue up Again after 10, so literally in 5 minutes. So I refused... and I think it's nonsense. Really like the place but this is just unbelievable

Very good with nice food and pleasant sitting out.

I went here to purchase some breakfast sandwiches. The restaurant had run out of bread and all that was left was sourdough rolls. I was in a rush to feed five of us and decided to just try the rolls with bacon. The rolls were fairly nice but did not go with the sandwich filling and they contained minimal bacon. The bacon was nice but nowhere near a sufficient portion filling. The bacon was basically 2 pieces of streaky bacon that was lost inside the bread. I do not think it was value for money and we were left hungry and had to purchase an additional breakfast from nearby. The staff were nice and friendly but sadly the portion size let them down.

Wine tasting at Dallings is a quintessential experience.

Nice but could be so much better. Service was polite and friendly but there didn’t seem to be any finesse in serving. My croissant was just that - served on a plate but no serviette, no cutlery and no butter or jam. Perhaps I should have asked for them but on a first visit you sort of expect these. Similar paucity for my wife’s meal. We came here because rival “Fred and Ginger’s” was so busy. Now we can understand why.

I drink a lot of coffee and this is the worst coffee I’ve ever had. Ridiculously bitter & gives you a headache. There’s also a gentleman that works here that is very sarcastic, singing load who constantly makes cocky remarks. To top it off, my Paella wasn’t cooked all the way through so I had to send it back (they reheat the rice in a microwave).

The way a customer was spoken to by a member of staff when he walked in without a mask on was utterly embarrassing. The customer, slightly taken aback by the abrupt and loud ‘do you have a mask?!’ enquiry proceeded to don his mask, which unfortunately for him wasn’t fully over his nose - this mistake was quickly pounced on with a loud demand ‘can you put it over your nose!’ - I’m pretty sure he felt like a naughty school child. Interestingly most of the staff were wearing masks below the nose or under the chin, not exactly to WHO standards. But then of course, you can’t catch covid whilst making coffee or preparing food, only whilst consuming it…silly me.

After going to Dallings since day 1 and a loyal customer through the dark days I won’t be going again. I completely get the dilemma with different rules for shops and hospitality but the really rude and heavy handed approach by the lady that served me today when I put my food order in was over the top. Firstlly, I was picked up in the first instance regarding not having a mask on (simple error as I had assumed I was in a hospitality venue and was dining in). I am exempt but to make her feel more comfortable I put one on temporarily. However, when I lowered it to mouth my order the individual in question snapped at me that if I am going to wear it it needs to be above my nose. Frankly, I really wish I had walked out at this point and it was only shock at her manner that stopped me. Secondly ,the irony was that all other staff had masks below their mouths clearly playing ‘lip service’ to the rules. I am fine with that of course and wouldn’t want them berated for getting a breathing break. However, clearly if Dalling is going to ask staff to take a heavy handed approach it should do it from a point of moral authority not one of hypocrisy !!! I think a more pragmatic and understanding approach would go a long way. Really sad about this as have rally enjoyed the welcoming nature of Dalliings over the years but having made to feel extremely uncomfortable by one staff member today, we won’t be going again . Been here many times and it's a lovely place to sit in or outside with a cake and a tea, coffee or even an alcoholic drink. The tapas evenings seem to be highly recommended by friends, but have not been myself yet.

Lovely coffee and food. Coffee, cake and savouries by day, wine and tapas in the evening. Great atmosphere. Lovely staff especially James who cheers me up every morning with his banter. Very popular venue. An asset to Kings Langley High Street. The only downside is that it is sometimes difficult to park nearby otherwise all good. 👍

Quite simply the best lunch spot in the area. Friendly service, a great selection and the perfect deli for building a hamper of treats any time of year.

Happened upon this place while staying locally and wish we'd had more time to take full advantage of it's offerings. It was packed on this particular Thursday evening but was able to snaffle a seat outside and had some delicious beers from the Tring Brewery. Amazing place, will definitely make of point of coming here when back in the area again.

A surprising little gem in Kings Langley! We popped in for some breakfast after finding out intended destination further down the road already full. I had the vegan full English while my partner opted for the regular English breakfast, and we both enjoyed our meals immensely. They’d run out of veggie sausages so they’d concocted a sort of vegan hash which was far nicer than any veggie sausage could have been anyway! The thick chunk of sourdough toast was delicious too, everything really hit the spot. The coffee was also decent. The service was quick and friendly and the prices reasonable. Their wine shop next door had a really great range on offer as well. We’ll definitely stop by again soon!

Lovely shop and menu, fast and efficient service. The only qualm is the seating and lighting on the delicatessen side. Rather dated. Sitting outside looks great though. So I’d do that.

Have had their takeaway tapas a few times and it's always delicious. Have also previously been to a couple of wine tastings. The staff are friendly and helpful and the owners wine knowledge is encyclopedic! 100% recommend.

Impossible to buy a bad bottle of wine from this place. Excellent and varied choice with some fine quality wines stocked.

Challenging Lockdown surprise. I rang Geoff ( co Proprietor) on the of chance that I could pick up a surprise meal for two? ( We had organised a picnic in the summer, It was perfect). Geoff passed the phone to Claire, his business partner, she could not have been more helpful. She said select your menu choice. I emailed my wish list including Dessert Apple Tarte Tatin When I spoke with Claire and agreed the price she offered an appropriate bottle of wine from their stock and a bunch of flowers from a local store. It all arrived on time, excellent service. THANKS We will definitely use them again.

All excellently planed for covid safety. Booked at table for brunch. The cooked breakfast was beautifully done, with cherry tomatoes, a large taisty mushroom, delicate sausage and sourdough toast. All topped off with a large leaf cup of green tea.

First time I’ve had a meal out since March and I wasn’t disappointed. Coffee was excellent and the breakfast was really nice too. I’d definitely recommend this place if you’re in the kings Langley area.

We ordered two vegan sausage rolls to take away and let the woman behind the counter know we were vegetarian and vegan. When we bit into the sausage rolls they were meat! My mum and I have been vegetarian for more than ten years. We came in to let the staff know and they insisted the inside was chickpeas but it was clearly meat (as I've eaten many vegan sausage rolls and falafel before) and there was clearly pork gristle in the sausage. The woman behind the counter was very argumentative and confrontational. We understand it was probably a mix up and mistakes happen, and just wanted our money back. Another man working there agreed to refund our money for the rolls and the woman behind the counter slammed it on the counter at my mum aggressively - it was very rude and I was very upset on my mum's behalf. We weren't trying to cause any issues, but it's disgraceful for a business to serve meat products to vegetarian/vegan customers and then not apologise if there was a mistake. We won't be coming back and were very upset by our experience here.

The food and coffee are decent enough but half the staff are nice and half are downright rude. It’s a game of Russian roulette which one you get !! Went to get a coffee and got barked at by the server.

Very rude staff member I went on Friday to collect some wine and cheese. The lady that served me was so rude and abrupt with a terrible attitude. I think i took a bit longer then she liked to order the items i wanted. FYI i had a stroke a couple of years ago and it takes me time to remember things, you can’t tell by looking at me which is a great example of not all disabilities are visible!These weren’t the owners it was a member of their staff. Having made a real effort to keep things local and support local businesses this was a really disappointing experience.

Fantastic place. Awesome social distance idea with a polythene sheet around the front door. Great idea. Great selection of deli items and most importantly WINE! Absolutely love this place.

We live locally but have never felt welcomed in this shop. Maybe its the fact we are a minority ethnic gay couple but we've never managed to get served twice we went in and sat at empty tables. We also waited for ages to be served at the counter even though we'd been there a long time before others were served. Very unhappy.

A delight! I'm a French national, have lived in different regions of France. The best croissant I've ever had was at Dalling & Co. The eggs Benedict is also a winner!

We often visit Dallings for wine tastings and the occasional supper club, but this week's Valentines Night Dinner was unbeatable. The menu was simple, but faultless, with the main course of Beef Wellington being the best i've ever tasted, and the beef itself (fillet) absolutely superb. The starters (Bruschetta) and Dessert (Lemon Possett) first prepared us for, and then rounded off, an excellent evening. Coupled with a choice of wines from anywhere in the store it made for a memorable evening.

Always a good coffee and a smile to start the day. James in front of house is always chirpy and likes to have banter with the customers. The poor reviewers on here must be so grumpy and devoid of a sense of humour in my opinion. Best coffee shop in the area and food is tasty too.

Love Dalling and really enjoying the extensive range of vegan options. Staff friendly and comical. Service is always great! Highly recommend whatever your food preferences....and an amazing selection of wines and beers for those kinda afternoons or evenings.
