Lovely restaurant with a friendly environment. Attentive staff (without being overbearing) who were happy to explain about the dishes. Delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Came after a few years for lunch and had the gyros, it was amazing, took a while to arrive (20 mins) but pleased that it did as it tasted so fresh and flavoursome, probably the best gyro I’ve had. The chips in the wrap combined with the tzatziki were amazing but the chicken was amazingly marinated and cooked. The baklava was also amazing with the vanilla ice cream. Will return again soon, glad to see an independent restaurant making such high quality food and service with a smile!

Service, atmosphere and music were good. The food itself is overpriced and the greek gyros wrap is definitely not worth 16 pounds! The gyros is definitely not gyros, I'm not sure if it's frozen or just cooked marinated chicken , but it's definitely not gyros. Also the menu is not flexible, you can get chicken gyros on a platter for 2 people which costs 70£ but you cannot individually get chicken gyros in a single portion (which is a signature dish in Greece). Also, you cannot create your own wrap. Would not visit again.

We have been coming to The Olive Tree for many years and, once again, had a relaxed evening and delicious meal. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive and professional (Louisa & Layla). The food was delicious, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Our compliments to the chef! Thank you for always ensuring we never leave disappointed!

This is a lovely Greek restaurant in Berkhamsted! We were celebrating a friend’s birthday so we had a group of 6. We ordered quite the assortment of dishes that we shared. Some favourites of ours included the chicken souvlakia, gigandes, and dolmades. The restaurant looked clean and the staff were patient with our group. We enjoyed our meal very much! It was a bit on the pricey side, so be prepared to get 2-3 dishes per person.

The chicken kebab was amazing and the chips were outstanding. The gigandes are my favourite though. Great staff and always busy! It is always great here

We ended up at the Olive Tree because we stood at Pizza Express reception and everyone ignored us! Not so at the Olive Tree where we had a lovely warm welcome. The food was delicious - I'm vegan and there were plenty of options for me. The service is great and it was overall a positive experience. It is a bit expensive but the quality of the food made it worth the price. We'll be coming back.

AVOID IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES. We had a very bad experience here today. As a Coeliac, unable to eat gluten, I asked if I could have the GF chicken, GF salad and GF chips without the gluten wrap and was told ‘no’. When I asked why they said ‘it depends if they’re busy’ (I looked around and saw only five other tables). When I queried this I was told ‘they couldn’t deconstruct the dish’. So I asked does it come into the restaurant pre-assembled? They said ‘no it’s all fresh and put together by the chef’. So I asked why they simply couldn’t assemble it without the wrap? The answer was ‘because they weren’t allowed’. So we got to our feet to leave only for an apparently more senior young woman to arrive to speak to us, who at least was not impolite and wearing a dirty apron like the first waitress and we had the same mad conversation again. I told her I felt that what they were saying was nonsensical. She asked ‘if I wanted her to ask again if they could serve me’. I said no as they’d refused me twice and I had lost all trust as I’ve never heard so much nonsense in my life. I’ve worked in Greece and have always been catered for in a helpful and friendly fashion - but apparently this isn’t possible in Berkhamsted. I felt discriminated against and angry by how they’d treated me and their weird reasoning. I only hope that they and nobody they love is unfortunate enough to have an allergy and be treated this way. They should be ashamed. We then went a few doors down to Pizza Express and were greeted by a charming man whose first question was ‘any allergies?’ who explained the huge variety of GF menu options and brought us a delicious meal with a smile!

Greek restaurant that serves a mix of meze and standard sized meals. Good quality and authentic, service is good and the atmosphere is friendly. Would recommend for lunch or dinner.

We arrived late for our booking, but they accommodated us without hesitation. The food was incredible—delicious and authentic. The restaurant’s interior was beautifully designed, and the service was exceptional. Highly recommend!

Found it very expensive for the portion sizes, food tasty but not very warm. The stifado was nice flavour but again £14 for this dish it’s not worth it

You want an honest review so I'll give you that! The food was excellent, can't fault it!! However, a couple of minor (constructive) criticisms: the knife should be more serrated if eating a wrap, very hard to cut through as this fantastic wrap is too large to eat by hand. The waitress serving us had very little customer service skills, more smiles and questions please (I am in a similar business so see it from a professional angle). Otherwise a fantastic experience and will certainly come back.

I have been here a few times now and I am never disappointed. Firstly the staff aways offer such a warm welcome. A lovely young man called Connor looked after my friend and I last week and couldn't do enough for us. The food is fab and the three for two offer is great especially when there are so many lovely dishes to choose from. We will definitely be back.

Every dish was a vibrant celebration of Greek flavors, freshly prepared with high-quality ingredients that really shine through. From the authentic mezze to the perfectly cooked main dishes, everything was packed with flavor and beautifully presented. The service was also top-notch. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, which made our experience even better. They went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed, but without hovering. It’s clear that this team truly cares about providing a warm, welcoming atmosphere and making sure every guest feels valued. Plus the added help with a birthday cake that we had brought with us for our 13-year-old son.. If you’re looking for an authentic Greek dining experience The Olive Tree is the place to go. I can’t recommend it enough – it’s a little slice of Greece right in the heart of town! We’ll definitely be back soon.

We were having an 'old friends catch up ' in Berkhamsted and were looking for a place to have donner. We couldn't resist the sparkly interior and the beautiful fresh look of the place. We were warmly welcomed and the service was superb. The menu was varied and the food was fresh and so delicious. We also had a dragonfruit cocktail that was so refreshing. Thank you for a great experience Olive Tree. We loved it.

Had Hummus, Greek salad and three dishes from the meze. This was plenty for two people. The lamb croquettes were incredible. Everything was faultless including the service.

Overall a disappointing evening. Usually great atmosphere and friendly staff. However this evening the staff were dismissive of a dish that was not to its usually standards and we were made to feel unwelcome because of our compliant. .

I was there this evening with my new work colleagues from Callen Olive Clinic for a welcome dinner. The food was amazing. Super fresh, all of the dishes were well presented and tasted delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food comes out as its ready which made for an enjoyable evening. Didn't feel rushed. The drinks menu is varied. I had the peach iced tea is was amazing. The non alcoholic drinks menu was as good as the alcohol. They knew the evening was for me and brought me out a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream. Which not only was it a lovely thought on their behalf, it was scrumptious. I didn't think I had any room for desert but one wee bite of that chocolate yummyness and it was gone.

Had great expectations, but was seriously disappointed, food overpriced and nothing special, portions on the small side, taramasalata was absolutely tasteless as were the cocktails, and the place had all the ambience of a MacDonald's. If this is a restaurant supposedly bringing the Greek forefathers/mothers food experience, then it has lost its way.

Delicious food and attentive service

Very surprised this has such good reviews. The restaurant was very busy too, but I think they’re cutting quality of service and food to serve as many as possible. The meal was okay in general, tapas style with everything coming out individually, which can have its merits. The chicken was very bland, overcooked, dry & cheap cuts of meat. The chairs are extremely small, like kids school chair sizes so quite uncomfortable. The other dishes were okay, nothing like a 4-5 star rating though. Didn’t stay for desserts or extra drinks. £120 for two people, in and out within an hour. We wouldn’t return.

We stopped here for a quick bite to eat and it was excellent. No booking just popped in on the off chance and was greeted warmly and immediately showed to a table with no fuss. Another waitress came along and asked if we had been here before to which we replied no so she explained the menu and took our drinks order. She then enquired if we would like water as well? The drinks came quickly and they promptly took our food order. Allergies were asked about too. The food came quickly and it was hot and tasted lovely. I highly recommend the whitebait & aleoli sauce 😋😋 Order three Meze and only pay for two, bargain! There is a 12.5% service charge attached but when the service and food are excellent you don’t mind. Total bill for lunch for two was less than £50 and if I haven’t said already the food is excellent. I highly recommend. We will be back.

Love, love, love. First visit here, but we will definitely return. Huge choice of meze dishes, which were both varied and tasty. We visited early one Wednesday evening and by 7pm, the tables were virtually fully taken. Would strongly advise to book!

Very cozy, good food, nice staff, but the food is different to what we are used to in Germany

So disappointing, the £11 chicken Souvlaki was cheap reformed chicken with no flavour and tasted like it had been cooked straight from frozen. Ruined the whole meal, won't be returning

The Olive Tree restaurant in Berkhamsted is a definite favourite. The flavours of Greece that keep you coming back for more.

Nice restaurant. A little different set up it's like tapas and food comes to your table as it's ready which is nice as you can string the evening out and you enjoy the food slowly. We ordered 3 dishes each which was too much food but we probably only needed 5 dishes between 2 people and not 6. We were a group of 4 so we probably only needed 9 dishes. Great food and was nice to try new things. You probably want to budget at £40 each to be safe. They forgot my drink and had to ask again for it but not really an issue.

Gorgeous little restaurant with wonderful staff. We had such a lovely lunch here with our baby and 5 year old. The food is delicious; the menu is very well labelled regarding allergens etc; they have gf dessert options; they have a great kids menu; it’s a lovely space and the waiting staff and manager are so lovely. Put 4 rather than 5 stars for the food as one of the dishes (only one!) had a very salty sauce. Order the Gigantes - they are delicious!

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR ALLERGY SUFFERERS. The food was lovely and high quality, the atmosphere and look of the place clearly had some thought put into it. Generally, seems like a lovely restaurant. If you don't have an allergy and enjoy greek food, I would probably recommend you stop here for a bite! I must admit, the server who took our order asked about allergies, and told me which dishes to avoid as a result - this was much appreciated. I was of course given the spiel about cross-contamination and the fact that there's always a chance of an allergen being in a dish it shouldn't be in. Fair enough, same for a lot of places. However, I need a fair amount of nuts in something to give me any kind of reaction (whole nuts kind of amounts of allergen). After walking down the high street a few minutes after leaving the restaurant, I started to feel my throat swell up. The subsequent course of this reaction has been distressing and, I believe, could have been avoided with more careful handling in the kitchen as my dish was not meant to deliberately contain nuts. The industry standard for this kind of thing is to prepare food in a clean and separate work statio, wash hands, fresh pair of gloves and then start work on the food. I understand some ingredients may be prepped beforehand, but care needs to be taken with this or the next time someone has a reaction as a result of your food, it could be a much worse outcome. Essentially, good food and nice restaurant, clearly not enough care or attention paid to allergens.

Brilliant restaurant. The best place to eat authentic Greek food! Such a pretty place. So inviting. We had an assortment of mezes between 2 of us for lunch. Didn't eat again till the next day. The food is delicious and lots to choose from. I've always found the waitresses so friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. A gorgeous bright and cheerful restaurant!

We went last night and had a platter .. dips horrible , strange sausage .. not as good as we have had in the past , disappointed and felt rushed ..

Salty food. We've been here plenty of times and the staff and food are generally pleasant. On this occasion our food (platter) was very salty, the waiting staff were very understanding. However, what soured the mood was when we complained to the manager the response was quite abrasive and that a 20% discount was sufficient having not eaten even half of the food and that 50% was not acceptable. Despite the fact that we approached them in confidence so as not cause a scene, she was nonchalant and was confrontational. Shame because we often enjoy this place.

I really like Greek cuisine and this place does it very very well… Guys, if you want pure taste, delicious food you should go here, restaurant and the customers are very cool… (Prices are reasonable, totally deserved) Next time I plan to be there for UZO with meze...

A place to visit if you want fresh, tasty and wonderful service. We had mixed mere so we could try the dips, calamari, white bait, chicken kebabs and everything was so tasty, fresh, perfectly seasoned and the young lady serving explained everything and helped us with our order Excellent service, excellent good great atmosphere

My second time coming here,I loved it the last time. Think it's changed ownership. 3 of us dining , we were told the dishes all came out as and when they are ready. To pick 2 to 3 dishes each. So we picked 9 dishes and asked did we want water for the table, yes, assuming it would be a jug of tap water, it wasn't it was a glass bottle of water. The waiting staff started bringing the tapas, it was lovely food but not having it brought together you didn't feel you had a meal. So when the bill came I was shocked at the price £ 40 each, no alcohol. Soft drinks, coffee and 1 dessert. I might just not realise that restaurants are that pricey now but I felt that was too much each for what we got.The waiting staff kept coming over asking if we were finished, like 4 times, like they wanted the table back, looking suprised when we said no. I wouldn't go back as these things were big to me.

The staff are tentative, polite and friendly helping to make a relaxed and authentic atmosphere. We had a selection of dips for our starter, all were scrummy. We chose a mix of meze dishes for our mains, each one was lovely, full of flavour and cooked just right for us. We will definitely be visiting again 😊

Tasty food, lovely decor, nice people but seriously over priced. We fancied a Greek restaurant after our honeymoon in Greece and whilst the food was comparable to some places, the prices were alarmingly higher here. The Gyros being like £13-15 is quite astonishing given the EUR 3.50 price in Athens.

Food was brilliant, I had the feta parcel previously in Rhodes and it was just as good; loved the meze idea although it would be nice to see just a few main meal options. Service was excellent, both waitresses were really friendly. Dessert was well portioned and really good choice.

We loved our dinner at The Olive Tree! The restaurant is so beautifully decorated, it really replicated the Greek vibes. The staff were all really friendly. We had about 10 different dishes and the meal was fantastic! Really authentic-tasting, and good value for money. Our favourites were the gavros, the lamb croquettes, the filo feta wrap, the tzatziki (sounds simple but exceeded expectations) and the garides skaras - lots of favourites! The only thing that could've been improved were the chips. We had the chips with added feta, and the feta was delicious but the chips were plain and not the best quality - they were the only thing that felt not home-made or special. Chips are such a small part though, so obviously not a big deal. Overall we loved The Olive Tree and will definitely come back with our friends and family!
