Doe Bakehouse in York

Place very basic and very limited range of products. Three to four staff on - all pleasant but not busy at all. Had Hot Chocolate donuts at £4 each. Donut quite tough - chocolate topping reasonable , synthetic cream topping cheap and unacceptable at this price . More like a School bake sale than a commercial product . Nice folk but would never go in again .

Envié a mi hija a comprar dos pasteles y me sorprendió cuando regresó menos de 8 libras. Entré al día siguiente para chefear los precios y vi que no había precios en la ventana, así que comprobado en el interior, Al salir vi una familia seleccionando desde la ventana. Casi digo que subas dos puertas a la panadería.

Donut rápido mientras hacemos nuestro wat alrededor de la ciudad - bueno pero no tan bueno como solía ser, creo que tiene un gerente diferente ahora o algo en esa línea. La selección fue buena, pero no tenía el sabor a donut que buscaba. Mejor que el Proyecto D.

Llamé hoy porque mi hija quería un donut. Fuimos recibidos por una mujer muy grosera sirviendo y tuvimos una bienvenida muy helada. Estábamos en justo después de que abrió y las mesas todavía estaban sucias desde el día anterior. Las rosquillas son increíbles, pero el personal realmente decepcionó este lugar, que es todo lo contrario de la tienda en Layerthorpe, que es mucho más relajado y agradable ambiente

My friends and I went in February and it was not a good experience at all. First, the staff member was incredibly rude and sarcastic and was completely uninterested in being there. The selection of pottery items to choose from was minimal and there were no prices on anything. The girl at the till had no idea either what things cost so pretty sure she over charged me. (£20 for a small trinket box on top of my £5 deposit to book a table). The brushes and paint felt cheap and you could barely see what you were painting. We then had to wait 3 months for our pottery to come back from being glazed and fired etc, and when we did get them back, they were in an awful state. To start, my lid has splashes of paint on it that weren’t there when I handed it over and then the glaze is so poorly done! It’s extremely bumpy and uneven and doesn’t even cover the whole trinket. It was not worth the money or time spent there and we will not be going back.

A group of 8 of us went to paint pottery as a birthday treat for our friend. We all painted items - at a cost of £18+ each (I spent £23 on a large mug). We painted on the 23rd of March 2024, and to this day, the 4th of June 2024 we have not had our pottery back. We've have not had a call to say it's ready or an update as to where it is. I have called them at least twice and been told they will call back with an update (there's been no update). We keep having posts deleted on social media when we ask where our pottery is. I have DM'd them on Insta and get canned responses. I have to email them separately - despite giving all the information already over the phone and in a DM already. We have been told to wait 3 weeks, and there's a delay with a 3rd party they use to process the pottery - but all of this means nothing as they don't know where our pottery is. The experience itself was fun—the food and drink were great, and the painting itself was fun. However, the toilets smelt drainy from where we were sitting (near the front of the shop, toilets at the back), and the service was poor on the day—we felt ignored by the staff when trying to order food and drinks and pay for stuff. I would not recommend it.

The donuts here are great. It’s such a shame about the service. Very rude girl on the counter. Complained at us for not queuing correctly, when the queuing system is so strange. She then proceeded to give us a donut without any topping on and then was abrupt and rude when we asked for another. Will not be visiting again, which is a shame. Please send your staff on customer service training, it’s not hard to give good customer service, even when you’ve had a busy day! She clearly didn’t want to be there.

Hen Do Goals 🤍 My friend wanted a laid back hen do after recently having a baby and that’s when I thought it Doe. With a combined love of doughnuts and art. I decided to book a Doughnut Sip & Paint party for her and it didn’t disappoint. The staff were amazing, Lacey in the lead up helping to plan was so quick and helpful. Being a Wedding and Event Planner myself I know it can be tricky to get things into order, but she was super polite and helpful. The actual event was gorgeous, the girls working were so kind and had dressed the table for our arrival. They’d even picked a Hen Do playlist to play during our time there. Obviously, the doughnuts were delicious and the bride particularly loved her three tier doughnut hen cake. Thank you Doe. It was an absolute pleasure and we loved every second of it. 🍩💕

Good vegan selection. £4 for a Bespoke doughnut from an independent is reasonable. Staff were friendly enough; some confusion on why a vegan doughnut was marked as containing milk though which initially wasn’t reassuring. Premises could do with a deep clean; floor needed swept, painted surfaces chipped, untreated wood sitting area and skirting was just dirty.

Taylor Swift pottery experience. £8.50 for the privilege of being there (plus a stale donut). Then the pottery was extortionate for the low quality. I paid just over £15 (on top of the initial £8.50 charge) for a small heart shaped plate. The quality was immediately clear to me - cheap quality mugs and other items. £15 is a lot for a small plate and then we were given small plastic paintbrushes that you could buy from any cheap shop and fairly decent paints. Nothing to distinguish a 'Taylor Swift' night other than quiet background music. No foam shapes or stencils. Overall a really disappointing experience. Then the plates took over three weeks to get back. They had lost one of them and mislabelled another. We ended up getting both back. Then when they came home, the glaze was cracked so the plates are unusable. Would not recommend at all. Not even for the donuts.

Great coffee and atmosphere. Staff were pleasant and chatty but not overly. The cappuccino was as good as any coffee shop. I will definitely visit again

We came to visit today as a family of five, the donuts we had. We are absolutely gorgeous! Staff were so friendly and just so lovely, they cater for allergies and had a great variety of alternative milks, which suited one of us are perfect night. Our boys absolutely love the Oreo and Lotus doughnuts! Extremely clean and tidy and my cappuccino was wonderful! Will definitely be returning

Decided to pop in on a hot afternoon on the way back to our hotel. Service was great, milkshake was great and coffee/caramel doughnut was really tasty. Nicely air conditioned seating area. Glad we dropped in.

Look, I'm not saying I'm addicted to Doe's doughnuts, but my bank statements might say otherwise. Love, love, love Doe so much. The doughnuts are always so soft and fluffy and jam-packed with toppings (or, well, jam). The Layerthorpe branch is always so chilled and friendly (the one in town can get a bit manic on a weekend!), and it's such a treat to bring the dog and hang out for a bit. The menu is constantly changing, but with some firm favourites always available. Loads of vegan options too!

I live in York and frequently visit Doe! The donuts are always lush and they change each month so always something new to try.

Popped into the Layerthorpe store a couple of Thursdays ago on my way to work around 8am- it was a strike day, and I fancied grabbing some doughnuts to boost morale on the picket line! I got two of the four for £14 boxes- I picked a bit of everything, but my fave was the raspberry ripple. Got chatting to someone called Jordan behind the counter- they told me that they baked the doughnuts fresh every day. I'd only planned on getting one box, but ended up leaving with double! There was just too much choice, and everything looked so delicious and luxurious. The baker really knew what they were talking about- it was so lovely to start the day with such a friendly face and chat with someone who is truly passionate about what they do! Awesome doughnuts and customer service, will deffo be back again :)

We love a trip to York but even more since Doe opened. The doughnuts are so fresh and whichever we order (and we’ve ordered a lot) they never fail to amaze. The coffee is always a hit too. Staff are always friendly and I just love the feel of the shop, such a happy vibrant place. Keep up the good work Doe!

Just Wow!!! This place is amazing. I regularly pick up a naughty treat as I’m passing although choosing which donut I fancy is s always my problem as they all look scrumptious! My colleagues love my indecision when I return to work with a box full! 🤦🏼‍♀️ Crème egg and Freddo have been recent favourites .. Mini egg nest is next on my list. I love donuts and I was immediately drawn to this shop window. They have a large selection of different donuts. There was a pistachio one so I had to buy one. My wife ended up getting a fredo one. The shop is average size. The gentleman that served us friendly. They also sell hot food and a lot of vegan options. However, we were only here for the attractive looking donuts. Unfortunately, that’s all they were. The texture was ok but they lacked any distinct flavour. Sweet yes, but I couldn’t get the normally lovely taste that pistachios bring. The fredo one was also tasteless. We agreed that if we closed our eyes we would be able to identify the difference between both donuts. What a disappointment.

Me and partner drive from Scunthorpe ( sometimes order online ) but we love to get a coffee in York and grab some donuts! Amazing fresh donuts and great coffee!
