Wonderful traditional pub. A great pub with good beer and, I'm told, excellent food. Just be aware that it closes relatively early (as do quite a few pubs in Kingsbridge). Get there for an early evening drink - say about 7pm. It really is a delightful old pub with a great atmosphere.

A fabulous traditional/ old fashioned pub. Great beer (Doom), nice cosy feel, very comfortable seating, still has bar stools. A reputation for excellent fish n chips. The catch? Get here early, the landlady closes at random times, but usually by 8.30!

We found the Dodbrook not long after moving to their side of town. We have been welcomed with open arms, they have a superb range of drinks and the food is first class. The pub is also like two in one, the under cover section is more like a beach bar, and the inside a cozy traditional pub. A place to visit for sure!

We visited this pub twice whilst staying at our guest house in Kingsbridge last week. The food was good on both occasions but the landlady let’s the place down badly. The first visit was ok, but when we went there the second time we found her to be very offhand & decidedly on the rude side. Needless to say we went elsewhere to eat for the remainder of the week! We mentioned about it to the owners of our guest house & they commented that they had found many other of their guests had said the same. Apparently the guest house owners first had them on a list of places to eat in the area but would no longer do so. They said they had also found the landlady treated them the same way! She doesn’t deserve the business if that’s the way she treats her customers.

Once again we have had the most amazing food served at a traditional pub in Kingsbridge. It never disappoints and the steak can’t be beaten in our opinion. Fantastic selection of real ales in this quaint family run pub which for many is the heart of the town.

Apart from the smell (‘70s council house damp kind of vibe), the stale beer, eclectic furnishings and constant patter from the landlords son-in-law….it was otherwise quite forgettable.

Real ale, real food, and plenty of character to back it up. We had had some dsiappointments during our week in Kingsbridge, but not at this little pub tucked away up a side road at the top of the village. Menus are chalked on boards, and on the night we visited they were offering fresh scallops. Excellent, not to say exceptional, with a choice of starters or main course, salad or chips. It did much to repair the reputation of Kingsbridge's restauranteurs. Good beer, fine wines. Well worth a visit.

A Monday night in September in Kingsbridge doesnt offer you a mass of choice however we stumbled on this gem of a real pub. Jill , the landlady was warm and friendly . The beer and wine were very acceptable , and on seeing several locals pop in for take aways we decided to give the food a go ! We were not disappointed ! Fantastic steaks , beautifully cooked. So good was the experience here we went back on Friday for the Fish & Chips ( we had the medium - more than enough !! :) ) I dont care that the pub shuts at 10 , thats their choice - but a great value find that you should try !

What a wonderful little pub. Family owned for 35 years and it really shows. Warmly greeted on arrival and friendly chats throughout. Service was exceptional. We had whitebait, scallops and fillet steak. All extremely yummy and the fillet was a perfect medium-rare, good quality steak. I had a glass of Merlot which I thoroughly enjoyed. This will be a regular stop whenever we are close enough to Kingsbridge.

I must say I find the last review laughable, the comment about retirement. The reviewer appears to be prolific but restricts followers. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about; it’s a shame he was too late for lunch and vented his annoyance online instead of returning during opening hours. The DB has been a firm favourite of mine for a couple of years and, yes, they have old fashioned hours but they also have old fashioned respect and values - and above and beyond that, food that is second to none. You won’t get a better steak, fish ‘n’ chips or gammon in the area and more importantly a genuine welcome. It’s the best family-run pub in the area.

We visited the Dodbrooke several times during our visit to Kingsbridge in May 2021. This pub is a true gem - we received the warmest, most genuine welcome from both the locals and also Jill the landlady. We ate here twice - the quality of the fillet steak was outstanding (we had it with the stilton sauce which was delicious). The pub has a lovely covered beer garden which we enjoyed, with cosy blankets also provided to keep you warm outside. We wish this was our local - we highly recommend the Dodbrooke and will definitely return when we're next in Kingsbridge!

I've eaten fish and chips in so many places around the UK. Some good, some I wouldn't feed to my dog. I have just REALLY ENJOYED what I consider the BEST FISH AND CHIPS EVER!!! So Cod and Chips twice, delivered within 15mins of order, card payment as well. So a business with the customer in total focus, unlike other providers still stuck in the 'cash only middle ages culture. The cod was wholesome, chunky, meaty in texture and full of flavour. The batter was wafer-thin and not filling. The chips were cooked to perfection, crisp outside fluffy inside and not coated in fatty oil/soggy. I will now only recommend Dodbrook Inn for fish and chips and its brilliant customer service. Martin

Went here with my family and I have to say you would have to go a long way to find anyone more miserable than the lady owner. She would be tolerable if the food was good, however it wasn't. My son actually went to the chip shop after as he was still hungry. Very small portions and they have no weights listed on the steaks menu and my husband's was extremely small. You can tell this lady has no patients with tourists she is very curt and rude but seems to laugh lots when she is behind the bar with the locals. I actually heard her say " for god's sake" under her breath when a customer called her over. The last review states that all previous negative reviews are not incorrect. Well as a tourist I can only write what I find and I found a pub that is not welcoming at all with poor food. We will not be going again

Having read the negative reviews we were prepared to be disappointed. BUT I do not agree, in any way, with those negative reports. We were greeted by the owners with a cheery smile and made most welcome. There was then a lovely flow of information while we supped our beers. An order for a couple of steaks was no problem. A good starter and the steak was the best I have found in the Kingsbridge area. The service was beyond any criticism. The cost was more then reasonable. A fairly simple menu to suit all tastes. A lovely, simple pub, no gaming machines, no piped music, an open log fire - what more can you ask for? The question below asks if it a fast food place - not really but they do a takeaway service for fish & chips and I understand they are highly rated.

I was working as a fundraiser at the time and our team decided to take a break so we can rest our legs. My female colleague used the toilet and ended up buying a lemonade and peanuts from the bar.Me and my friend were strapped for cash, but as no one else was in the pub and someone had paid for something, we decided to take a small break in one of the booths before we headed out.10 minutes rest later, before we left, my colleagues left me to take care of their items, as they went out to smoke. At which point I was aggressively approached by a woman and asked if we had finished as quote 'This is a business, not a Charity!!!'. At which point I tried to be civil and replied 'In the future I may choose to come back here, I just don't have any money at the moment and my friend did buy something'. At which she replied 'Well if you spend money here in the future with us, you'll be welcome to come back, but it's not my problem if you need a rest as I'm running a business'.I may have understood if we were taking up space that other customers were using, but as I said literally no one else was there. It was an aggressive outburst that frankly wasn't warranted, even when I tried complementing her on the interior design of the pub she just made a snarky comment on how 'Yes this business!!! Is nice isn't it'.I for one will tell my friends to go elsewhere if they're ever in Kingsbridge, as I'm sure there are much more affable places in such as nice town.

We have eaten at The Dodbrooke many times. The fish and chips is always excellent. You have a choice of medium, large or extra large fish priced from about £8 to £14. The steaks are also very good and well priced. The land lady does all the front of house work - bar, service etc while her husband is behind the scene doing the cooking. The only other staff we have ever seen was their daughter waiting on tables occasionally. The bar attracts an early evening drinking crowd who seem to be mainly locals but by 8pm ish they have usually left and it is only the diners remaining. I don't know whether they get a late night crowd in later on. It is a very small old pub, no parking but you can usually find a space in a nearby street or walk from one of the public carparks. I would recommend booking if you intend going at the weekend as they only have a few tables. In the week you may be dining on your own or there may be lots in. They also do Sunday lunch and take away fish and chips but we have never had either of these so can't comment

Recommend the Fish & Chip, both eat in and, take away are excellent. But the menu has more to offer. There is no parking at the pub but, a local car park quite near. Well worth the walk and, it won't hurt you to do a little exercise after your meal either. Old traditional pub, perhaps could do with a freshening up but, you go there to eat, not to look at the decor.

Have visited Kingsbridge countless time, and this is one of the best pubs in town. The owner cooks, and delivers high quality food every time. The trip advisor member who mentioned the Fish & Chips is absolutely correct - undoubtedly the very best in Devonshire. Whenever we return to the Dodbrooke we get that 'back home feeling'. Highly recommended

Apparently the fish and chips are great but we had a rather lacklustre meal. Basic food, not gastro. Beer and staff lovely. Recommend the beer. Will try it for fish and chips next time.

I normally like 'locals pubs', most people are fine if you're friendly. The landlord seemed to have an attitude, and it didn't come over well. He should perhaps put a sign up saying 'Only locals welcome '. It's been a long time since I encountered this and its a shame because the beer was decent. The other pub was friendly and welcoming and I'd recommend that one instead.

We have had two great meals here on two consecutive nights. I had Fish Pie and my son had Mushroom Bourguignon, both of which were well presented and very tasty. Tonight we opted for the Pizzas, the base was a beautiful thin sour dough, cooked perfectly, the toppings were generous with lashings of mozzarella and were exceedingly delicious. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. An added bonus for me is that they sell both Devon Mist and Aspall cider on tap. Thank you.

Excellent service, the two lads that served me were kind and friendly. Good choice of vegan options, I was recommended the 'reuben dog' which was 10/10. Definitely not overpriced as you get what you pay for. Great quality good from vans are few and far between but this was my second visit and I was once again very impressed.
