Wednesday night in March Samosas onion bhaji and lamb tikka starter followed by mixed grill, vegetable bhaji murgh masala and vegetable naan The Sauvignon Blanc is great , we don’t even need to order as the owner remembers what we drink The menu is not your bog standard here , service is always great and well worth a visit

Went to the raj with some friends for a meal. Staff were friendly and there was good service. Food was lovely and full of flavour.

I don't like giving negative reviews but this takeaway from The Raj was really disappointing. I had heard good things about this restaurant and ordered takeaways for three persons, all different dishes. The service was friendly and the restaurant looked well kept when I visited. All of the three meals were bland in the extreme with little difference in their taste. We expected medium curries to have some spiciness but were all disappointed. I won't be going back.

Had a great evening here with a bunch of friends. The food was excellent and the staff were really friendly. Definitely come again soon.

Excellent food and service. Only two minute walk from boats moored up in Loddon basin. Good flavours and better than some Norfolk Indian restaurants where they can be too mild and bland.

Wonderfully tasty food and at a very reasonable price. I ordered a takeaway and collected 15 minutes later. I had the prawn madras, sag paneer, mushroom rice and peshwari naan. The naan was fluffy and light, really good. The sag paneer...wow, creamy, rich...sensational. The curry was outstanding and the mushroom rice a great accompaniment. I highly recommend The Raj.

Had a great curry here whilst staying in Loddon. All dishes we ordered were spot on. Small restaurant that became quite busy as the night went on. Waiter and what looked like the owner were both very friendly.

Ordered and delivered to my house in around 25 mins. Food was piping hot and was delicious. Would highly recommend

Just visited tonight ( Tuesday) had to comment . Although quiet many takeaways going out . We are on a boating holiday moored at Loddon . A few other boaters in I think . Staff friendly order prompt food excellent… as a curry lover I would highly recommend.

We ate at this restaurant the last time we came to the norfolk broads, and it is just as good as it was then. We all had different mains with pilau rice, pashwari nan and onion bajis. The food was well presented and tasted great, as did the bottle of merlot. The service was excellent. Overall, it was good quality and value. If you can't eat in, the takeaway option is probably just as good.

Having relocated Chedgrave 2weeks ago tomorrow (yay) and having know of The Raj for some years as dad lives in Loddon yet never offered to buys takeaway. We decided to order a takeaway in the first few days of our house move from Leicester. Great tester for an Indian restaurant is the Bhajee, The raj bahjee fookinphenominal, extra spices in never tasted before. 2 curries 1 Peshwari Naan and Garlic rice, two happy boys. Two days later we had to order again, tried different curries and again, blinking gorgeous. By far, the bestest ever in the world, my mouth is watering whilst typing this, thats how good it is.

Unsure if management has changed recently. Ordered raj balti experience. Not only did the king prawn special turn up with chciken and lamb minus the king prawn, the naan was also missing despite confirming that it comes with the meal on the phone when ordering. After calling the Raj to let them know they had made the mistake and they need to pop one over to me (I live 1 mile from the restaurant) their reply was they would give me a free one with ny next order. I explained like most people that enjoy a takeaway at weekends after a hard week. I would prefer to enjoy the meal I ordered. Point blank refused to provide me with the meal I ordered and tried to lie to me saying that the new up to date menu does not include the Naan. I referred back to the menu that was delivered with my food and guided them to their mistake. Still was not prepared to complete the meal I paid for. I informed them that I would not use them again as this was not the 1st time they had left food out of my order. The reply was "OK". One can only assume that they have more than enough customers and it's pot luck if you are one of their important ones.

We rocked into Loddon on a hire boat and headed straight to The Raj. Currently it's doing take away food only due to the Covid restrictions but what great food it was. If I have one slight negative, the rice portions were the smallest I have ever had from an Indian take away. Can't imagine they do two sizes in portions of rice unless they are starting a trend. Also, the onion barji's looked a tad small too.

Ordered takeaway just before Xmas first time users and was delighted with the food. Simply the best Indian food I have eaten in years.

We use this place regularly spending 30-35 a time for family of 2 adults and 4 children. Last night we ordered are normal order came to 53.00 I didnt think nothing as we ordered dessert this time, it finally arrived tried charging us a extra 10.80 for 2 desserts yet they was only 4.35 each. I dished up and noticed popadoms was missing but they had gave us the salad and chutney that goes with, I ordered a tikka curry and a tikka starter and gave us 2 starters. I had my order on my phone which I read it out as, I then call them to ask where popadoms was and the curry to be told I never ordered yet the bill was 53 pound and we recieved the stuff that comes with them anyway he reads out my order in a totally diffrent way that I read it out. I then add up all we had using the menu we had including the popadoms and curry it came to 42.00 yet charged us 53.00 then it came to alot less with the 2 tikka starters and no popadoms so they conned us alot. The tikka pieces had a dirty black slime stuff in the middle obvs from the skewer it was on and this morning me and my partner and eldest have very upset bellys. Shame really as we never had a problem before but in a pandemic we are being ripped off. Disgraceful.

We visited on a Sunday after contacting them via messenger to make sure they were open.We received a prompt reply saying they were.Ordered and said we would pick the food up ourselves as we were in the vicinity. 20 mins later picked it up as it was ready on arrival. Fantastic tasting meal. I wouldn't hesitate to say one of the best takeaways ever.I have had a lot of Indians in my long life.Thoroughly recommend The Raj and will return when in the area.Well done!

Had a takeaway from them last night and was genuinely one of the best Indians I've ever had from either a takeaway or restaurant. With great quality food, super friendly service and quick cooking times this should be a definite visit for any Indian food lovers either in, or coming to or past Loddon.

Not sure about this, I have had some very poor dishes here and although the front staff are very good their menu and food presentation is somewhat lacking. Not somewhere I could readily recommend and has London prices!!

I have returned many times and every its good, we must be regarded as regulars by the proprietor we were shown straight to,the table without stating we’d got a table booked. Service is always smart and little time is lost between the order being taken, without the feeling of being rushed, prices too are reasonable for the quality. Always a treat visiting here and pleased to give a good review.

We arrived late by boat and moored at Pie green moorings and by the evening wanted to find a restaurant to end the day well. The Raj hit the spot. On a glorious evening a 10 minute walk from the moorings and opposite a pub we found a pleasant, comfortable Indian restaurant. Good starters followed by tasty curries made our day. We know where to go the next time we moor in Loddon.

We pitched up on a Saturday night without a reservation - no problem at all, a table was found for us straight away. We were pleased to find several 'non-standard' Indian dishes on the menu, which we happily tried. The service was courteous and reasonably quick, considering it was a Saturday evening, and both the drinks and food came to the table without much delay. All the food we tried was very tasty and although the dahl was pureed, and therefore not what we're used to, it was fine. Good value for money, and we would happily return.

I have eaten here on many occasions and their food is amazing. Their take away service is fabulous and for a quick evening treat, it cant be beaten. I would recommend to anybody. Being in a little village, it is perfectly placed and truly a hidden gem. The staff are always polite and will do anything to make your stay wonderful.

Perhaps our choice of dishes was unrepresentative, but our takeaway was pretty average. Over large lumps of potato in the Bombay Aloo and other dishes plus a longer wait than originally told were disappointing. Would we get a takeaway from The Raj again? Probably, but not before trying other nearby Indian restaurants.

Having arrived in Loddon on a boat and being the crew were hungry, we found ourselves wandering the High Street and perusing the various restaurants and take aways...but we settled for The Raj, and how right was that decision!Amazing food and large portions too, so The Raj gets a five star recommendation and goes in my good books for places to eat in the Norfolk Broads :)

We came on Friday evening and had a lovely meal. Excellent service, clean and tidy. Could not of been more helpful as I am quite fussy re cardamon & corriander so they cooked a curry for me without !

We held a surprise party for our friend last night at the Raj. All staff were fantastic, didn’t rush us, food for 19 all came out together which is a big ask so well. done to the chefs. Everyone said how fabulous the food was and would be back. Waiter managed to carry the huge cake out without dropping!! Would absolutely recommend

Great meal last night for my birthday. Seven of us ordered and each meal arrived as ordered. Would go again. Everyone happy.

I was travelling with work and I Ordered three starters and poppodums from the menu. I paid on my card and I took a menu to have a peruse for when I’m back. I noticed that my chicken chaat didn’t come on purée (as it does at home) and asked if I could have it. Because I didn’t have cash on me (£1) they wouldn’t allow me to and wouldn’t charge my card as they’d get charged for charging it again. There was no resolution offered so I asked them to refund my order. Absolutely absurd that for the sake of a tiny slice of bread, they’d prefer to refund me £12 and lose a customer forever. madness.

Attentive service, delicious food, piping hot, pleasant atmosphere, very good value, immaculate table cloths!

We were quite impressed with quality of food .Service was excellent, restaurant and toilets were immaculate and staff were extremly friendly. Last bit by no means least price was very reasonable will definitely return.

Last night, there was a group of 10 ladies that had booked a mea for 7pm. We got there all for 7pm & the guy who took the drinks was very slow at taking orders, he eventually took our order, got some drinks wrong so had to change them. One drink a Malibu & Diet Coke turned up & looked awful, upon looking the Diet Coke was out on date May 17!! Unbelievable!!

We dropped in unannounced as just fancied an Indian meal. Prompt and courteous service of high quality food. Our favourite Pinot Grigio was available, so that pleased us too.

As a regular customer for over three years, and someone who has managed numerous restaurants over the years, I didnt expect to end up angry and disappointed after ordering a takeaway from my local. The nearby MASALA GARDEN, which is a little further away, and much better, has just gained a new regular customer.

A very clean restaurant with friendly staff. The pomperdoms where fresh but the pickles were poor and too sweet. The Nan bread was excellent. The curry was an average one with inadequate spicing.

Food was very average! The lamb saag was nice.

Dilraj have an unassuming menu but the dishes are brought to life by exceptional cooking. Our food was brought out quickly, but was definitely freshly prepared. Service is prompt and attentive and the price of the food belies the quality of the ingredients.

I have eaten here many times and in the last year it has been consistently excellent. They have improved the interior and got rid of the annoying music videos. The food is very good, service great and this is now matched by a very pleasant environment.

The Raj was recommended to us , and it was really great. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, food was outstanding, best Cobra I've tasted as well. Went to The Swan pub afterwards, also really nice .

Después de leer las críticas nos ganas de comer aquí. Las cosas buenas: es un restaurante muy agradable y limpio, y el personal es eficiente, pero la comida! Pedimos un cordero Balti, indicada en el menú que llegaron en el tradicional plato balti, fantástica, justo lo que queríamos, que llegó en un plato cuadrado blanco! ! Cuando le pedí al camarero donde el plato balti era, dijo, oh, no uso de ellos, ya no por un largo tiempo, necesitamos cambiar el menú, realmente genial, quizás hasta que cambie el menú deberían informar al cliente que va a venir en un cuenco de cerámica blanca! ! ! Lo que no se sabe como, un curry de cordero correosos, había un poco de patata en rogue. A el pollo madras, bolos más blanco (odio), el pollo estaba un extraño color naranja, no no era pollo tikka, pollo naranja que sólo era difícil y sabía nada como pollo. En el lado positivo el arroz y pan estaban bien. No volveremos aquí nunca.

We have been to many many Indian restaurants and reading the reviews we were unsure whether to visit this one but the food was amazing. Fantastic poppadum tray- onion bhajee was moist- my vegetable garlic special was perfect spice of medium to hot and my son's chicken tikka pathia made his tongue tingle a lot- hubby said best chicken Pathia he'd had in a while as spicy. Great service- perfect!

We've been here several times and the food always impresses. Generous portions great taste and impeccable service. The staff are always friendly. Well recommended.

Pedimos una comida para llevar entrega a las 6 de la tarde, estaba a 20 minutos tarde algunos de la comida estaba fría, me dieron media tandoori de pollo 2 piernas! ! No te dan un medio pollo sólo 2 piezas de pollo según el director, incluso aunque su adversed como un medio. Por el tamaño de las piezas, diría que están usando poussin (pollo).

We were passing through Loddon looking for somewhere to eat.The menu looked good, so we gave it a try.The restaurant has a large wall mounted video monitor showing a Bollywood music video, but our table was out of sight of it and the volume was not intrusive, The staff were friendly without being over the top or pushy.They did not flinch when we ordered one main course between the two of us.We ordered items that are unusual on British Asian menus, and the kitchen knew what they were doing as the dishes were authentic, tasty, well presented and generally well executed.We will be returning.

Went here for my birthday treat and there was a large party of us. There could of been more serving staff BUT the waitor we had was great, Food was lovely and we had fun. I had the chicken sag which I enjoyed. Good value as well.

We decided to visit on the spur of the moment the Raj, our first visit. I liked a particular dish which was not on the menu and they kindly cooked it for me. On the whole all our meals were well cooked, lots of flavour. We would certainly go again. Friendly service.

I have eaten here several times, both in restaurant and as a takeaway. I find the food to be really nice, lots of flavour and not greasy at all. The only downside is that the chicken tikka massalla is very, very sweet, too sweet for our taste. So, we order the chicken tikka curry instead, which is much nicer.

High points were Xacuti Lamb and Bhindi bjaji! But my two companions were equally pleases with their choices. This little restaurant in the tiny town of Loddon knocks spots off some establishments in my beloved West Yorkshire. We have never had a bad meal either sitting in or taking out. Great value and wonderful taste!

Finished off my holiday on the broads... Phoned in our order with no problems. They delivered right to my boat yard with a smile... The food was exllent..

Staff are very nice. Food was mediocre. Chicken cubes were processed and tandoori chicken was dry. Lamb was like shoe leather.Tellies in restaurants kill the atmosphere; Indian music (fair enough) but phone adverts whilst you're having a night out? No. Just no. Just put the music on and get rid of the telly.Place needs a lick of paint or a dimmer switch so you can't see the paint. Actually the lighting needs to be sorted as its like eating in an office in the 1980s.Been a few times now and its hit and miss. Mainly miss but the last time was very poor.There's no competition in the area which is why they're getting away with it.

Went there last week with family. It was terrible had a meal from the chefs special menu and it was a flavourless onion and garlic mush with over cooked chicken . The bindi Bhaji consisted of 7 pieces of okra. The other members of my family were also unhappy with their meals . I would not return or recommend this restaurant until they can actually cook a decent curry.

We decided to get a takeaway from here when we were moored up overnight at Loddon staithe.Portions were very generous and tasted excellent. Everything was a bit spicier than I would have expected it, but that wasn't a problem. My main was supposed to come with a nan bread but when I got back to the boat it wasn't there.

I have used this restaurant many times over the years both as Dilraj and now the Raj.The "new" owners have included some more interesting dishes and maintained the previous high standards. Only two things stop this getting 5 stars. Firstly the tendency to over salt the food, I expect spice but not so much salt. Secondly the Naan are not as good as they were when it was the Dilraj. They are now just like most other decent Indian restaurants whereas the Dilraj did the best Naan I have ever tasted including in India and Michelin stared Indian restaurants. Having said all that I'm still getting a takeaway from there tonight!

The mid week deal of poppadoms, starter, main rice and side for 4 people at £16.95 is amazing value and you also get a bottle of wine thrown in. Tasty food, nice chaps and good service. You should give it a go if curry is your thing in Loddon!

Called in during the week for a meal. Could not fault anything. I understand this place was previously called the Dilraj but is now just the Raj. It was small but clean and the staff friendly and helpful. My friend and I have extensive experience of Indian food and we found this to be one of the best. I had a korma, he had a dansak, we shared taka dahl and sag ponir side dishes. The food was hot, plentiful and amazingly flavoured, unlike many Indian meals these days. Truly excellent, I will revisit as soon as possible.

We had a takeaway from The Raj as it is now called. It was ready on time and very good value. The dishes were well cooked and tasty. The restaurant looked clean and well staffed. I would be happy to use again if in the area.

My wife and I moored overnight at Loddon earlier this week and fancied a curry. We went to The Raj and were not disappointed. This is one of the nicest takeaway curries I have had. My wife had Tarka Dahl as a main course with vegetable Rice while I had the Lamb Rogan with Pilau Rice.Both were excellent. Really good, tasty and not running in fat as is often the case. Next time we're in Loddon, we'll be giving this one a go. Shame it isn't listed on TA as The Raj as that's the name over the shop and would be more helpful for people to look at.

Tried this restaurant some years ago and did not like it and I have never been back. I believe it is now under new management and also renamed to The RajWe were a party of 9. The welcome, service and timing of the food was excellent. Each dish had its own distinctive flavour and was delicious. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Raj and I look forward to returning. It is lovely to have such an excellent Indian restaurant so nearby. I run a local B&B, Little Willows and I will be recommending The Raj to my guests.

I went in last Thursday with Mr G, a friend of mine a clearly a regular here. We received a wonderful welcome from the owner and the other staff, the food was first class and very good value indeed. We got talking to some of the other customers, what a friendly place to enjoy a great meal. I can't wait to go back.

Travel back to Loddon for first time in six months and shock horror Dilraj has been replaced by Raj . Needn't have worried though. Same excellent service and great food. Biggest onion Bahjis I've ever seen. Four of us dined and all food was superb.

I see myself as an Indian food critic as I've been eating Indian since I was 10 and can honestly say I was hoping the Raj would improve its food after taking over from the Dilraj which hasn't happened I'm afraid.I thought excellent new owners have took over I hope they treat their food like it should be cooked only to be giving a very tough chicken dish which was on par with a takeaway from The frozen counter at Tesco.The price for a meal at this restaurant is very expensive and I really don't recommend it and void if you can.You want a decent good Indian meal and you live in Chedgrave & Loddon you'll have to go to Norwich.

It was let down only by the same thing as an increasing amount of places these days; reformed chicken. We ordered chicken tika everything, but this lacked the real depth of flavour you get when it's all done onsite with fresh chicken breast. In fact you could barely taste the tika flavour at all. But for a small village restaurant/ take away, this is the only thing that prevented a straight 5 stars. As a they are under new management, I say please go that extra mile Raj and your rep will grow hugely. There is a massive gap around here for genuine Indian cuisine. Coming from the home of the British/Indian curry (Midlands), we should know! :)Still, we'll be back soon to see how they get on. They certainly deserve that.

This place has changed hands and has a new name, but unfortunately it escapes me! In any case me and my friend had a really good meal here - lamb handi and lamb vindaloo; the service was very good. They didn't take credit cards - don't know if this is a temporary thing - and as the cash machine at the bank was broken, this led to some penny-counting.

Even though I lived near here for many years I only visited for the first time in Dec 2012. The meal was good and very reasonably priced

We are regular diners here and are always made very welcome. A group of us have our reglular get together's from our slimming club here and they are more than happy to alter the meals to accommodate our needs.

Had a really lovely meal at this restaurant and will definately go there again on our next visit to Lodden.Staff are very friendly, polite and helpful. Food was plentiful, freshly cooked and extremely tasty. I would highly recommend a visit to this little gem!

This was my fourth visit to this restaurant and if im in the area i now take a detour just to eat here.First up was popadoms and pickle tray,everything just perfect. Next was the Kebab with sauce etc and the flavour was excellent.I then tried one of the specialities which had garlic and chillies in abundance,nicely hot without taking the roof off the mouth and a garlic nan perfectly cooked.It was early evening and service was great as there were only a handful of people in,however ive been here when its full and service was excellent then as well. Definitely worth the detour!

This restaurant proudly boasts its fame in East Anglia. Certainly the menu does not disappoint: there are many dishes offered I have never seen before in "Indian Restaurants".Surprisingly, most of these dishes look alike when they are eventually served, even though they taste different enough. Being plied with drinks does not entirely compensate for the long wait for the food.It was so nearly very good, but not quite!

This is a local favourite for me, been a few times & always had excellent personalised service. The staff are only too happy to accommodate different requests - one of our party had never tried curry before so they made sure she had something very mild and tasty instead of the usual "korma!" Extra sauce & salads were provided in addition to the items on the menu & no-one in the party had any complaints. They are also very helpful when it comes to diet options too. Can highly recommend a visit here, a little pricier than some but worth it in my opinion.

Have visited a couple of times in the last few years and have always been treated well. Can't work out what went wrong tonight ?... Walked in and asked for a table this evening got told to go though to dining area which was empty and asked which table I should go to and was advised "I told you to choose one" the service for the evening went downhill from there. When it came to paying the bill we were not allowed to catch the waiters eye so went to the counter to pay, where we were ignored but the waiter went into a frenzy of activity fetching a new box of after eights where he eventually presented us with two and the bill. As we are already at the counter the after eights were a bit meaningless and we just wanted to pay the bill, but half way though paying the phone rang so he was delighted to take he the call and ignore us so our billing was finished by a different man. We were very happy to leave and very disappointed as all our previous meals have had excellent service so if the food has not been great it's easy to overlook. We are local but sadly will not be returning and would now not recommend it to our friends.

I'd had several takeaway meals from the Dilraj but had never eaten in-house. That made it the obvious choice when entertaining a friend and fellow curry enthusiast on his recent visit to the area.We were greeted and seated by the proprietor on a quiet Tuesday evening. There we experienced excellent service and advice about the menu, which contains a large proportion of house specialities. We chose some of those for our main course after eating well-known favourite starters. Having done great justice to our 'mains' we passed up the offer of dessert and ended with coffee.Reasonably priced and highly recommended, we'll be back!

This rrestuarany offers good value for money with an interesting menu. The staff are delightful.
