We keep trying on the hope it gets back to how it was a few years ago. The place has gone so commercialised the quality and service is not worth the higher prices . We landed just as they switched to lunch menu at 12 and as there was 4 of us and a baby we would have had to wait 30 mins for a table or sit outside. We opted for outside given it was fair weather and then promptly went to order food . Once ordered I was the told it was 30-40 min wait for food…. Given they had just switched from breakfast to lunch I thought the wait was way too long, but again we put up with a wait given we were all hungry. Long queues , long wait for food and food not as good as it used to be . Shame really, as a local I used to love going but I’ve been too many times now and constantly disappointed so will be finding a different place to eat.

Stopped at the Farm shop after a walk around JCB lake and decided to have breakfast. There is a good choice of breakfast items at a good price. Staff were very helpful and polite. Food came about 15 minutes after ordering, quite satisfied with that. Food was very nice. We will be visiting again.

After visiting this venue for many years I am sad to say that it appears to have lost its heart. I have never been disappointed before but on the Sunday we visited it was very disappointing. I was unable to eat the salad which was limp and tasted peculiar. The chips were soggy and tasted of old oil. The flan was ok but little burnt on top. I am only posting this because at no point did anyone ask if our food was ok.

Really disappointed. I have been to the cafe before and had been very happy with the food and the service. This time however, I was not impressed at all. I have had the avocado and poached eggs on toast before, but this time I got only 1 slice of toast, which was soggy. The eggs were cold as was the tea. Certainly not worth the money! I emailed when I got home to pass on my disappointment, but haven't even had a reply to my email. I won't be going back. There are far better eateries in the area.

I came here with a friend for lunch. We were sat at our table and told to order our food at the service till. We chose a main course and I went to the till. There they advertised soup of the day. So I decided to order the soup as a starter before the main course. I made this really clear to the lady on the till. I paid and sat back at our table. Ten minutes later our Soup AND Main Course all arrived at once ! When I explained that we couldn't possibly eat soup and main course at the same time, and that I had orde3red the two meals as starter and main, the waitress got really shirty and just darned rude. Without apology, she reluctantly agreed to take the main course back and wait for us to tell them we had finished the soup. After our starter, the mains arrived , having been kept warm under lamps it seemed. THEN, we went back to the till to order our dessert. I ordered and paid, just after which the grumpy waitress shouted across to the lady on the till that what we had selected had sold out. So we changed the choice and the additional cost was 30pence. What did they do... ask us to pay the 30p when we had spent about £40 with them and had all that hassle. I paid said 30p by debit card , having no cash on me ! All in all a really bad experience, with not a single apology from anyone in the establishment. The food was fine and some of the staff seemed friendly. If you want to go there for tea and a cake or a sandwich then this place is perfectly fine. If you want two or more courses then be prepared to pay and consume each course separately and be prepared to queue at the till for a few minutes to order each course. The shop is lovely and the fresh produce looks really good. Shame about one or two rude staff and a difficult method for eating food in what is described as a cafe but has and serves starters, mains and desserts on its menu.

Ordered 2x Denstone Farmer’s Breakfast - bacon was anaemic looking and dry, staffordshire oat cake was cold, tomato was barely cooked and beans were lukewarm. You could tell the sausages were good quality but again dry as if they’d been left under a heat lamp. Best thing on the plate was the mushroom and that wasn’t seasoned. Surprised this place is so busy, maybe they had a bad day but it was poor value for money.

Not our best visit. Left a little underwhelmed. Food not great, coffee average. Ordered 2 sausage baps, bread felt either stale or had been left under heat but not toasted with No butter, and none was offered. I asked for added extra mushrooms and was told it would be a whole mushroom?? On a bap?? (There is a creamy mushroom option and I assume this is not a whole mushroom) There was no offer or option to have them cut them up and added, so I opted for egg and was not offered an option of how i wanted it cooked. We got 2 Sausages left whole balanced in bap. We had to remove them, cut them in half at the table and place back into bap, the added blackpudding was also luke warm and lacking in flavour. We had a special easter coffee, a Salted caramel latte..this tasted as any other latte would. Nothing special at all. A real shame compared to previous visits.

Staying locally and this was recommended. We took the dog with us for a quick lunch. To start, it’s not clear how to access the dog friendly area of the cafe. There is a large sign at the front saying dogs not allowed. I had to ask inside for directions, and was directed down a side alley which smells horrendous, I guess it’s dog urine. Once round the back of the cafe, great views with outdoor seating or inside seating in a large summer house type affair. Again, it’s not clear how to order. I went inside found out, queued to order, queued to wait for our drinks and given a device to take outside which would vibrate when our lunch was ready. Guests behind me were all getting served and given we had ordered a cold farmhouse platter and soup, we were confused by the wait. I went inside and after some discussion was told it would be about 10 minutes, clearly our order had been missed. We waited and again I had to go in to chase…30 minutes. Really not great. I went inside to purchase some things from the shop and again had to wait as there was no one manning the tills

Had to wait a short while for a table as it was busy which was expected and not a problem . I'm gluten and dairy intolerant so have to be careful what I ordered , eventually deciding on warm turkey cob with stuffing , cranberry sauce and salad as a gluten free option. Food came eventually , my son who'd ordered the pulled pork cob had no problems with his food and it looked great . My food however was a different story , gluten free bread not a cob was given , very cold turkey , no stuffing as its wasn't gluten free, no butter/ spread on my bread . If you've tried gluten free bread you will know it needs some kind of spread as it's that dry . I was disappointed but didn't put in a complaint as it was too late to do anything as I'd eaten it I'd recommend anyone with allergies or intolerances ask what changes will be made to their meal to suit their dietary requirements. I most certainly will be back as the food in general ( before my intolerance days) is lovely .

I have been visiting Denstone since it was a small cafe seating 20 or so people. Never had to complain before. However, recently visited, enjoyed my meal and so decided to have a slice of treacle tart, that’s all my husband asked for, a slice treacle tart. It arrived ‘nuclear’ hot, swimming in lumpy custard. I don’t eat custard! I I spoke with the cashier who said ‘ it wasn’t their mistake & that I’d have to pay for another slice! Her tone was quite curt. So I returned to my table as she was clearly not interested in my complaint. We later spoke with the manager, who again appeared curt and behaved as though we were taking up his time. I received another piece of treacle tart to take-away. Perhaps they are so big now, that one disgruntled customer isn’t worth their time. The treacle tart was terrible after all that. Pity as poor customer service sticks.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Came for an uncles birthday. Party of 6. Most of us had a cake with a tea or coffee. Some who were peckish also had a main course. God knows why this place is full, it's all show and zero substance. Blame the "Denstone" effect! The isues are the service: You must place your order and pay at a front desk whetherspoons style. This is fine in a CAFE but the prices here are RESTAURANT prices!! There was also a huge queue to order. An old lady behind me was struggling to stand for the length of time we were queueing. Naturally i let let go in front of me. Also, when members of our table wanted a second drink you again have to go the desk and order and pay for it. But unlike whetherspoons you don't then walk away with the drink! Instead you go into a "drinks prepartion" queue and wait 10+ mins for your tea/coffee to be brought over. At these prices you should be "served" properly at the table, not have to loose 10-15 minutes at the desk spending more money with them! Despite all our food being ordered in ONE go it arrived very haphazardly with long gaps between deliveries - some cakes arrived first, then a wait, then some drinks, then a wait, then the mains, followed by you guessed, another wait, then we had to ask where the remainder of the cakes were, which prompted the to turn up 10 mins later. So about 40 mins in all for 6 peoples food on ONE order to land on the table - ridiculous! The prices are RESTAURANT prices. We had a burger than was £14.50. Utterly overpriced for a CAFE. Wouldn't have minded but it was n't particularly good. Same with the steak and ale pie £14 and not great either. Avoid Avoid Avoid. Unless you really must be seen in "Denstone" and be part of the yuppie crowd. There really are far better places locally.

We went with our granddaughter for lunch. The table we were given was right next to a 'stacking station', a waitress was stacking dirty dishes and cutlery next to our table. I asked if we could move, she said we couldn't as they were too busy, I said that I was not paying £50 for a meal and sitting next to dirty dishes. The waitress side she'd move the dishes when she had a minute. She did afterwards move them. I thanked her, she didn't acknowledge me. It made for an unpleasant start of our £50 lunch spend. Our granddaughter's lunch was really lovely. An egg mayo sandwich, crisps, fruit and animal shortbread. My chicken burger was not a burger at all. It was a large, rather tasteless breaded piece of chicken on a cheap white bap that broke up when you picked it up. A tiny bit of green leaves on the side. Very unrefined and could do better Denstone. Make the chicken smaller, give it some relish, and maybe a gherkin for flavour, and on a brioche or proper burger bun. The chips were great. Still a great place, but maybe not a big spend next time, just coffee and cake.

The food came out before our drinks, and we had to chase to find out when the drinks would be arriving. The food was not great for the price we paid! We have been irregular customers at Denstone Hall Farm Shop for a number of years. We always found it a pleasing place to visit. Unfortunately this viewed changed when we had a family meeting on 17/08/2023. We ordered food for a lunch snack. My wife had Quiche and salad. The Quiche was lovely but the salad consisted of, one cherry tomato cut in half and a few bits of lettuce with a small pot of coleslaw and a few chips. We could not class this as a salad. I had the oatcakes with cheese and bacon. Previously these have been delicious. What a disappointment. The bacon had been shredded and was so sparsely distributed it was difficult to taste with the cheese. Cutbacks but this is ridiculous. We did not complain at the time to avoid embarrassment to other members present. The food prices are not cheap and we expected better quality than we received. We left feeling we had not received value for money and will not be going back again.

I've been to this place so many times, recently in October, rung and booked a table, arrived, after figuring out the one way system we were seated, fantastic staff and food as always was lovely, my favourite is homemade quiche and the deluxe hot chocolate. Christmas shop is always worth a look and I can't ever leave without buying something from the shop, the food produce and other items are lovely. Only downside to my most recent visit is the toilets being closed and having to share a male/female toilet espically when there's urine over the seat and floor. Will be back time after time!

We visited here for food and a browse of the farm shop on Saturday 26th September and thought it was amazing. Immediately, it was obvious that they have a decent covid-19 secure system in place, and all of the staff that we encountered were clearly on board with the cafes policy of wearing a face mask when leaving the table, and not getting up to wander round. It frustrated me because even though the staff said this, very clearly, to us and everyone else as soon as you enter the cafe, some people still decided they were better than the rules and walked around making more work for the staff having to challenge them. This was done in a professional, friendly and discrete way may I add. The food was so nice, and the atmosphere was fab. Definitley returning!Particular shout out to Jason, who served us, and was just lovely. Very professional, friendly and attentive. Would recommend sandwiches, sweet potato fries, and the coffee. We pop into Denstone quite often but the last few occasions have not been anything to shout about, the main issue being the food, the breakfast is always dry and over done! The last occasion the glasses we were served were both dirty. The shop is wonderful but the food and service really let the place down, you can get much better around the local areas. We have been coming here forever and mainly for breakfast with the odd lunch. We dine out quite a lot and have seen all sorts of Covid precautions but they are really OTT here and it would sadly stop me returning until a return to any sense of normality. I’m honestly not sure what they are doing and if they have it right then The Ivy, Duncombe arms, Paragon Group and Wild Rabbit have all got it wrong. It’s a shame. The staff were pretty friendly and food was OK. My wife’s tart was good and I had the Ham. The eggs were a little greasy and the twice or 3 times cooked chips were probably underdone and had a slightly unpleasant taste - just cook them well - once.Anyhow a little disappointed coupled with a lack of atmosphere.I don’t like leaving negative reviews and I think I have been quite generous with this one considering.

Had a disappointing brunch here. We wanted to sit outside for safety, but they operate a much reduced menu outdoors, which they don't mention on their website. The reduced menu doesn't have a vegetarian breakfast, so they would only offer one egg, half a tomato, and some beans to my wife, but still for the full price. She asked if they could add an oatcake with cheese or something as a substitute for the sausage and bacon, which they grudgingly did. However, when I looked at the receipt later, we discovered they'd charged us for an additional oatcake with two toppings! So, as a vegetarian, your choice is eating inside which is less safe, or being messed around and ripped off (£13 for a small oatcake with cheese, half a tomato, a fried egg and a pot of baked beans).(Only didn't notice at the time because of the half price from the eat out to help out, so they're overcharging taxpayers too.)

We have been coming here regularly for the last ten & a half years since we moved into the area when it was just in a small building. We took our friends visiting from Spain for breakfast having told them how good it was. I booked a table because I know how busy it gets & we were served quickly by a very pleasant waitress. We waited quite a while for the food, but we were catching up chatting so didn't mind. My husband & friends had the full English & I had poached egg & avocado on toast. Both the egg & avocado were hard & lukewarm, I decided not to make a fuss in front of our friends as they were all tucking into theirs! It wasn’t until much later in the day that my husband admitted that he hadn’t enjoyed his - bacon & sausage hard, food only just warm, possibly had been standing on the counter for a while & our friends said their’s was the same! Nobody wanted to make a fuss! As it turns out we all should have said something at the time. We have had lovely meals there so it as such a shame, especially having taken friends. It’s great to see a local business doing so well, but only if the high standard can be maintained

We turned up for lunch without booking and when we saw how busy it was we thought we had no chance of a table. However a very pleasant member of staff found us one. The menu choice was great - lots of dishes that were a little bit different from the ordinary run of the mill. Again we thought we would have to wait ages to order, but it was all done very efficiently. The whole place was very clean and tables were cleared and cleaned immediately after being vacated, all done swiftly and quietly. The food was delicious - I had wilted mushrooms in a spinach and cream sauce on sourdough - excellent. I then had a huge piece of lemon meringue pie - wonderful. The restaurant was very comfortable, staff pleasant, food good. The farm shop was also excellent - so much choice, and there was also a gift area and a home décor area upstairs, so plenty to see as well. It was extremely busy everywhere showing how popular this place is. Would visit again without dobt.

Love Denstone Hall- We go regularly, way too much really, but the food is great, particularly the cakes and the staff are really friendly. Can be very busy though so Nikki gibs best unless you have time to wait for a table.

An immaculate large upmarket farm shop selling quality produce and tasteful gifts with a large and convenient car park. The integral cafe is quite large but somewhat clinical and provides a good range of snacks, meals and drinks throughout the day from quality ingredients often with local provenance. The staff are efficient but rather unfriendly, which combined with the lack of character results in a soul-less experience. Prices are somewhat on the high side reflecting the first class produce.

I have visited many times. Booking is essential unless you drop lucky. You can get everything from a full dinner to afternoon tea. Sometimes they do special menus, at Christmas there is an extensive seasonal specials menu. The desserts are usually huge and fabulous. Everything is made in their own kitchen.

Stopped here on our way to Alton Towers for lunch. Arrived at 12.30 and was told by the surly if not patronising gentleman to say the only tables available were those in the garden room and these were filling up (although there was plenty of seating in the main dining area). I asked if we could go on the waiting list for the next available table for 2 adults and 1 toddler. He said he would, but had reservations for two tables at 1.15 pm and these would take priority, and couldn't confirm we would get seated. Said I was happy to wait. Hadn't even got back to the car when buzzer went off, was deciding going somewhere else.

Exactly a year after our first visit, we wondered if the same high standards would await us. We need have worried for everything was excellent. Prices are a little more than average but the food is very good and the portions are generous. The only downside was the waiting time for food to be served but they were busy, even though it was a Monday lunchtime. We can recommend this eatery which has won various awards.

Not from the area but is always our first choice. We always visit on our way through to Alton Towers - food is outstanding quality and locally sourced which is an appeal to me. Pricing is excellent and staff are always friendly and attentive. Shop also sells a range of local gifts and crafts which is always a joy to look around. Will definitely return as we do regularly.

Denstone breakfast has always been a treat for us, this is our second visit recently for breakfast and both times we have been disappointed. The first time they were busy so we said nothing the second time they were not busy and still the breakfast was disappointing.

Had a half hour wait for our food. Beef was very well done which was disappointing. Strange veg too... tiny cubes of turnip which were hard mixed with carrot strips. Rather watery veg too..I hate to think it might be frozen? Desserts as usual very nice but the meal wasn't great.

Stopped for a big breakfast before the big drive North to Scotland. Ticked all the boxes. Excellent cooked breakfast in very clean and comfortable cafe served efficiently by extremely pleasant staff. I gather the sausages are 'award-winning' and I can see why. Farm shop is also lovely, stuffed with all manner of edible goodies and posh gifts and home furnishings. An excellent stop. Couldn't fault it.

This farm shop and cafe is really top notch. Would have given more than 5 if we could. Had a lovely steak and ale pie and my husband had a chicken dish then two delicious desserts all for £14 for 2 courses. We would have had roast dinner (which looked delicious) but we had had one last week in Hurdlow right in the Peak District so thought we would try something different this week. All the staff were most helpful and particular thanks to Colette. We had enquired about a superb Highland cow picture but decided against buying it in the end as we are returning to Scotland again next year and will buy one then. So instead we had a good spend up in the farm shop. The quality of the meat etc is superb. Thank you for a great lunch and shop experience.

We had a light lunch of delicious homemade tomato soup and bread. We spent far too much money in the farm shop, so many tempting and scrummy things to eat and drink; great place to buy Christmas gifts! Fresh fruit and veg and meat and cheeses are local, high quality, and beautifully presented. We sat in the outside wooden room and there is also a nice grassy area with picnic tables looking out over countryside; the cafe is also attractive but was very busy and we would have had to wait 10 minutes for a free table.

We stopped here on the way back from Alton Towers. What a gem. We arrived quite late so only in time for sandwiches and cake, both being delicious, plentiful and good value. The staff were also really friendly and welcoming. Had a look around the farm shop and bough a few bits and pieces. Wish we lived closer!!

We found this lovely place by chance. We had dropped our granddaughter and her boyfriend off at Alton Towers for the day. We had traveled from Lancashire so we were ready for breakfast . The staff were lovely . Very friendly and welcoming. The only pity is it is not near to where we live . We will be back I am sure.

We stopped for brunch 15 mins away from Alton towers, and the food was quick and hot. Service was courteous and efficient. The only criticism I'd have is that the portions were so big, i didn't have room for a slice of the lovely looking strawberry cake they had!

We visited on a quiet day to be greeted by a pompous waiter who seemed reluctant to seat us, perhaps being dressed in jeans a t-shirt offended his sensitivities. Once seated we watched as he seated other guests, took their orders and continued to ignore us. The final straw came when he attended the table next to us, them having been seated 30 minutes after us and then, despite attempts to attract his attention he turned his back on us and walked off

After visiting the Farm Shop we had a late Breakfast in the Cafe having booked beforehand. It is obviously very popular as the place was pretty much full. There were a variety of Breakfast Options, most of us in our small group went for the Archies Half English Breakfast. It was served up fairly quickly it came with a single round of toast with choice of white or brown. For the price we thought the portions were very small especially at £6.25 each, two rounds of bread at least would have been expected at the price in our view. The Baked Bean portion was miniscule - it looked as if they had been counted!

I was visiting with my husband, three year old son and baby daughter. We’d heard good things so we were looking forward to our first experience. On arrival we followed a sign which said ‘pedestrian access to café’ which led around the back. Maybe we shouldn’t have because we tried to enter and we found ourselves being curtly told ‘use the other door please?’ without the door being specified. A bit confused we tried a door which didn’t look like an entrance but a lady said we could come in.

To be fair it's a farm shop so you expect some expensive quality. However tonic at 40 p a bottle over the super market is over the top. The is a difference between a killing and a living. The fresh meat and veg did look nice. Fancied a drink and joined the queue. Only to watch a waitress dump a no one beyond this point sign at a point in the cafe that did not leave enough room for us in the queue to be seated. This really gets me annoyed. If you are open accommodate us your customers. Will not be back.

Always a favourite stopping spot when on bike ride. The apple/rhubard crumble is the best around (if a little pricey) especially when ordered with custard. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Seating can be a little cramped, as this place does get very busy, particulalry during weekends, so you could find youself clambering over other diners to try and get to your seat....at least this is always the case when we sit on the sofa's next to the log burner. Will always return here though for a fuel stop.

We took the parents-in-law for afternoon tea as a treat - to clarify, they had afternoon tea, we had coffee and cake, and helped them finish their tea off. The afternoon tea was splendid (sandwiches, quiche, scones, and cakes) and more than enough for 2. The only reason for not giving 5 stars was because they were so busy with other customers and setting up for a party, we had a bit of a delay and had to chase up half our order. Otherwise it was top notch and highly recommended.

Very poor meal, Ham salad looked like someone put a bag of lettuce from the supermarket and a bit of very cheap ham. Bread roll inedible. When I mentioned to server, got a blank look and “do you want another roll” No I wanted a decent ham salad. Clearly no qualified chef or staff with any responsibility. Don’t bother eating here. Waste of money.

We visited Willows (previously Tutbury Tearooms) for lunch. There was a good selection of meals, snacks and drinks on the menu, although there didn’t seem to be a children’s menu. The cafe was comfortable and nicely decorated. The food was nice, but very expensive. £9.75 for a jacket potato with cheese (plus £1.50 for each additional topping) is far too much!!! My son had two potato waffles with grated cheese and baked beans, which cost £9.99!!! We left feeling negative due to this and are unlikely to return.

Being back in Burton for another pub crawl we thought we would look this place up again for probably the last time as it is due to close at the end of October in an act of complete vandalism by Molson Coors, showing a total lack of respect for brewing history by planning to redevelop the site for offices. Have these people no morals or respect? Clearly not. As for the tap room and restaurant itself, it’s a fairly sterile corporate affair but at least the hanging pub signs in the restaurant section does try and give it a bit of character. And in my experience the bar staff serving behind the bar have always given the impression that they are suffering for their profession and would rather be somewhere else. Although cannot comment on the food as we have never eaten here and again were only here for the tap bar bit, but can certainly pass judgement on the ale and in that respect the beer was very good, but then you would expect it to be as it is the official tap bar for the Heritage Brewery, embedded in the National Brewery Centre next door, and they don’t have to travel very far. The Tap bar has six hand pumps and for our visit these were dispensing the Heritage Brewery Masterpiece IPA, Heritage Gold, Charrington IPA and Oatmeal Stout as well as Draught Bass and Elgood black dog on as a guest. I went for the Oatmeal Stout. It is not one of the best tap rooms I have ever visited, but it is probably one of the most famous, so I will be very sad to see it go, if this act of vandalism is allowed to proceed by the local council and the local MP. If it is then the very soul of Burton on Trent will go with it.
