Had lunch with my wife... The restaurant is very pleasant with good level of service. The food however was rather average, I had the lamb which was overcooked and gristly, I had to remove lots of inedible bits. My wife said her fish dish was ok but a bit bland. The puddings were fine.

Lovely leisurely lunch, taking in the stunning views even though it was a grey damp day. Everyone enjoyed their food, only gripe is that it would have been nice to have bread with our starters. Pork loin was especially delicious and our friends loved the sea bass. Serving staff could not have been nicer and although it was busy, we were made to feel welcome and not at all hurried.

Visited Sunday for lunch lovely views and location. Restaurant a little cold and meal very over priced. Guests who had the meat Sunday Roast consisting of meat, Yorkshire pudding veg and potatoes but we only had a cauliflower risotto. The starter was made of oyster mushrooms again small portion. Two courses cost £29.00 so would not recommend for any vegans. What we had was nice but too expensive .

After an inside wine tour which included a film, visit to the presses and a wine tasting, which I must say, was very good, we went to the restaurant on the 3rd floor. The food was quite reasonably priced but the service was very slow - an hour and 20 minutes before we got our main course - and the food was only warm. It wasn’t as if the restaurant was busy. The portion sizes could be larger too.

Beautiful location but that's all. The food was not great at all and the service was very poor. The trout starter was very dry, pork started lacked sauce. Goats cheese was probably the best option fish, chicken and beef were all over cooked, roast potato's soggy as if they were cooked hours before and reheated, red cabbage had a large amount of sugar in it beyond edible. Ended up leaving without ordering dessert as we were so disappointed.

The view is lovely on a sunny days which it was. We had an early booking (noon) for 7 for a special birthday and service was fine as we were first in. The starters were nice - the pork bonbons in particular went down well. Mains were a mixed bag - the roasts (one beef, one pork) were well received. My torched salmon was distinctly lacking evidence of a torch! I was hoping for a bit of nice crispy skin but it was just a flaccid lump of skin to be left on the side of the plate. The rest of the plate was fine - nothing more than that. The veg/vegan butterbean thing looked like an enormous spring roll - very odd and both people left more than half of it. Desserts again were patchy. The panna cotta was in a pot so difficult to tell whether it had a nice wobble but both people enjoyed it. The apple & pear crumble wasn't a crumble at all. That 'deconstructed' craze has a lot to answer for. I was served some chunks of cooked fruit with no juices, topped with a separate disk of 'crumble' which was so dry it was more like a shortbread biscuit. If it wasn't for the boule of ice cream it would have been too dry to eat. Very disappointing.

Awful service! We booked for 8.30pm and was seated at the table as soon as we arrived. Drinks orders taken, then 2 of the 4 drinks arrived. It took 35 minutes for the other 2 drinks (despite chasing on numerous occasions!). Starters arrived promptly but our mains didn’t turn up till just after 10pm (we had to chase after hearing other diners complaining that their order was late). Throughout we tried to order cocktails but was told that due to a party upstairs the bar was too busy to take cocktail orders. The food was delicious and the staff seemed capable but somehow the restaurant just didn’t have it together and sadly we won’t be returning.

However when we attended gate 'B' we were greeted by a rubbish dump outside with unfriendly staff sitting around smoking. We met friends for a mid week lunch. The first issue was the lift was not working so we had to tramp up 3 flights of stairs. Our welcome to the restaurant was via what looked like the service entrance as we negotiated the coat rack before the door which was propped open throughout our lunch. The restaurant was cold. There were no warm smells and no heaters. The options on the 'set menus' were somewhat eclectic. Guinea fowl or celeriac soup. For mains roast chicken or leek risotto which looked awful when it came and apparently did taste of much. The choice for desert was sticky toffee pudding or nothing. We were trialing this as a possible venue for our Golden Wedding next year but will not be returning. There was more atmosphere and more choice of food in the Conservatory cafe on the Ground floor

We visit Denbies every few months to meet a friend for lunch. The setting is beautiful - whatever the weather you are surrounded by stunning views over the vineyard and surrounding hills.Service, as usual, was good - friendly, helpful and professional. On our recent visit two young ladies running what turned out to be a reasonably busy service, were delightful despite being under pressure at times (no sight of any management oversight to see if they required a little help!).The food (at least on the a la carte menu which we normally choose from) is always top quality. While we are fortunate in being able to afford the occasional expensive treat this restaurant is probably the only one we always come away from commenting on the appalling value for money. Venison £27, beef £26 a little high but the real appalling value for money is in the (tiny) starters and desserts at £8/£9. Interestingly, not for the first time we heard people on two surrounding tables - first (and last?) time visitors - comment on the prices.

We have visited this restaurant a number of times. The latest was 4th October, our 50th wedding anniversary. The food, wine and service are always excellent. The extra advantage of this place is the wonderful view across the vineyards to Box Hill. It must be one of the best views from a restaurant in this country. On this occasion, the restaurant staff had colluded with some friends of ours who had visited a little earlier in the morning to drop off a present for us. They gave us a complimentary glass each of sparkling white wine and even the biscuits that came with the cheese were heart-shaped. It made a special occasion even more special.

Four of us - friends of forty years standing - spent a relaxing two hours in this well appointed restaurant. The meals - for each course - were well prepared and presented with suitable gaps for digestion and washed down with an excellent bottle of Denbies Cubitt Reserve Blanc de Noirs. The views are good, wherever you are seated. The service was friendly and good-natured. Two suggestions for improvement - perhaps a little more choice on the menu and some thought given to why a 20% mark-up to their own shop prices is considered justified for wine consumed in the restaurants. All in all, a positive experience.

My daughter and I took my husband out for a birthday lunch to the Gallery Restaurant at Denbies and it was hugely disappointing. The waitress brought water to the table but it tasted strange and when we looked in the jug there were bits floating in the bottom - it had clearly been used for something other than water and not cleaned out properly. The big attraction of this restaurant is the view - the restaurant is high up with views of the vineyard and surrounding countryside but the as the windows were filthy, it was hard to appreciate the beauty beyond. Although the main course food was nice, we had to wait a good 25 minutes for it to arrive (the waitress said this was because everything was being freshly cooked but why do you not have to wait in other restaurants for food which is excellent?) and there was quite a gap between the main dish arriving and the side dishes to go with it. The size of the chocolate mousse for dessert was tiny - it would have been possible to eat the whole thing in one mouthful. The meal was vastly overpriced - £98 for three main courses, one dessert, one beer, one lemonade, one lime and soda and two cappuccinos. And to go to the toilet, you have to go down two floors, either by the stairs or by a very slow lift. We will not be returning and would not recommend to others.

We went here unsure whether to use the set menu or go a la carte. The set menu was VERY limited so we went a la carte which is ridiculously expensive for what it is. Fortunately, you can use a taste card which reduces the price a lot. The starters were very good. The main courses had well balanced flavours but the meat portions, £28 for lamb and £24 for duck, were small. Neither of the meats came pink which we thought a little unusual but they tasted fine. It was extra for vegetables. We ordered a side of chips which we were convinced were oven chips. We brought this to the waiter's attention but he denied it and left our table immediately. We remain unconvinced. On the plus side, beautiful views over Box Hill... even better if someone cleaned the windows. All in all, just too expensive for what was served up.

My friend ordered the duck, the skin was soft and very undercooked. When we complained the waiter then spoke to the head waiter and came over to us and blamed us for not telling the waiter how we would like it cooked. Surely its the waiters job to ask how you would like it cooked. They did not apologise they just gave us some 10% money off vouchers for the shop downstairs which means they would still be getting more money out of us. The location and view from the rooftop restaurant are great, and the food and wine were similarly very good. For this family lunch, the only problem was the service, which was, well, apparently disinterested - slow to attend when we arrived, and the staff spent time drinking coffee and standing with their backs to the diners, not seeming to keep a watch on what was happening. The waitress expressed surprise and incredulity when we asked for parmesan to accompany the risotto (which nevertheless was excellent). This was a shame as the experience was otherwise very good, with an interesting menu and wine list, a great location and easy access and parking.

Our experience was most disappointing ! The restaurant was no more than 50% full even though the weather was perfect and initially the waiter and waitress were reasonably attentive. Having placed our orders we waited around 20 minutes for our starters albeit we all ordered from the set menu of the day and whilst the soup was good the pate was minimal in quantity and the smallest starter quantity imaginable (one sliver from a slice) hardly a man sized portion! We the waited for almost 1 hour for 1 piece of fish each to be served, together with undercooked potatoes and vegetables - barely edible! Dessert was less than memorable and all in all a most indifferent experience which will not be repeated!!

My family and I enjoyed a very relaxing lunch here for my mother’s 94th birthday! The staff were very welcoming ,food excellent and they were very kind to my elderly mother. Only downside for less able diners is that the trip downstairs to the toilet on the first floor can take some time despite the lift! Overall very enjoyable occasion!

Fanatastic setting overlooking the vineyard. Service was unfortunately sporadic and a bit slow. The food was fine but would have expected better given the price - £22 mains. No advice on wine pairings which was really surprising given the location. Overall a bit disappointing as an experience.

The service was good and members of staff were all kind and friendly. The food was fine but not amazing. We enjoyed our meal and wine. Nice views. Ambiance was average and could be updated. I feel this is a place with great potential and hope it improves in the future.

I took my aged mum and her friend to lunch at Denbies. The ambience and view from the restaurant is gorgeous; it was a beautiful sunny day and it was breathtaking. Service was charming if a little slow. The food was good although not exceptional. Chocolate tart was delicious. All in all a very nice experience.

For that bit special lunch experience there is nothing to compare locally with the Gallery restaurant at Denbies

We decided to do something a little different for my birthday by having breakfast at Denbies. We found the food very tasty, service was fabulous. Only thing I might suggest is an option for a Buck’s Fizz for a special occasion, however this did not affect our enjoyment. Overall experience was outstanding! Thank you

Lovely place for weekend brunch. The view from the restaurant was fabulous. Only complaint was that the service was a bit slow....even though it wasn’t particularly busy or full at the time we were there.

The meal was very nice indeed but we had a 30 minute wait after ordering as a larger party was booked in. It's a shame we were not informed earlier.

We were quite disappointed after getting a good recommendation. The site and view are great but the food left a lot to be desired. In particular, the duck pate was miniscule, as were the mackerel fillets Service was friendly and pleasant, but slow - I suspect more due to the kitchen than than the waiter/waitress. We were given a minute taste of a white wine when we sat down. I think it was called Bacchus, but that was all the info given. It was a bit thin and acid - maybe it had been hanging around in the bottle for a long time. Certainly it did not encourage us to order a bottle or or to shop for any other wine. I think you miss an opportunity as the restaurant should be a great place to showcase your product in an area where there are plenty of well heeled potential customers.

Not sure whether or not we would recommend or not. We’ve been several times before and always been very satisfied but on this occasion we felt the food and service were not up to scratch.

Lunch with my wife and three friends in the Gallery Restaurant today (9/5/2019). Fine location and great views from the 3rd floor Restaurant. However the rest of the experience was very disappointing. Food was not worth the quite high cost. Duck Terrine starter and mackerel fillet starters were minute while main courses were v small and ordinary. We received a very small taste of Bacchus wine - very thin and acid which persuaded three of us to drink things other than wine with the meal - not good for a vineyard! Service was pleasant but very slow - probably due to kitchen - the restaurant was less than half full so I wonder what it would be like if it was full.

Another excellent evening at this restaurant with great views over the vineyard. Food was very good. Each course interesting and well presented with differ sample wines to match. Service excellent, friendly and well presented.

Our table for four people was booked for 12.30 pm yesterday, 7 May. Because of an accident on the M25, we did not arrive at the restaurant until 13.20 pm, although I had telephoned your Reception from the M25 to say that we were delayed. On arrival, the waiters were most welcoming and calming and we settled down to enjoy a very good meal in wonderful surroundings. We plan to return.

Had a rubbish time at my Christmas Party. Especially a bald tattooed man behind the bar who assaulted one of my friends. He grabbed him by the throat and other staff members can attest too this. Horrible.

I remember, think his name was Andy, guy with a beard who use to own this pub. We are talking about the late 80's. Great pub back then. Today, still a nice place. Pool table has gone.. Oh well but they did have football on so not is all lost. What happened to Andy?
