We booked an afternoon Tea and Even though the food wasn’t to bad the service could be a lot better. Once shown to our table we were soon forgotten about. 1. Apart from one waiter, the waiting staff didn’t speak or understand English, 2. we were not explained what to expect from the afternoon tea 3. We were not asked if we had and food allergies. 4. The selection of tea was limited. 5. When the food was presented, it was just placed on the table with no explanation . 6. Could of made better sandwiches at home. Overall there was no wow factor eating here and a waste of £25 each... we expected a lot better from such a beautiful manor.

I started my stay at the Manor with a meal in the main restaurant. Probably the best pate I've ever had to start with focaccia instead of the oatcakes I'm used to whilst living in Scotland which was a welcome change. Duck seemed to take forever to arrive, I'd started to think they ruined it and had to start again such was the wait between courses but was delightful when it arrived. Sat on a bed of stir-fry veg and potato it was very tasty and disappeared quite quick. Dessert was a mojito cheesecake with a summer berries. The berries overpowered what was a strong flavoured cheesecake so they had to be discarded on the plate. Have to say I was disappointed to be encouraged to book a table in a restaurant that had at most 2 patrons whilst I was in there. Felt it was done to generate curiosity which takes a hammering when the room is effectively empty on arrival. Don't get me wrong the food is worth that level of popularity but the reality seemed to be that an honest "it'll be fine tonight for you" wouldn't have gone astray.

We went here for dinner with a party of seven. Given that the surroundings indicated a high end meal I was left disappointed with what we had. Especially for the high prices they command. What on earth is that sweetcorn slop that is served between meals?? I was told it was sweetcorn, by the waiting staff who could hardly form an intelligible word of english, but it tasted like some exotic reeses sperm from some undiscovered jungle somewhere on planet earth. Ok a little too much I agree. Maybe I could compare it with space shuttle engine oil. The starters were appalling and tasteless, try the tomato dish for starters and you will see what I mean. tasteless rubbish ingredients. The main course of fish with one lobster ravioli was nice though, that is just nice, not good or brilliant just nice. The rest of it was shameful for an establishment of this character. The service was almost perfect if everyone spoke clear understandable English. Having said that, the service was highly professional, and you are actually looked after and attended to very well. They had brilliant product knowledge and you couldn't trip them up with any questions. They showed humour and excellent courtesy at all times. Taking into account the good service and the beautiful surroundings the only thing that left me feeling I would never return is the Chef. Who invented this menu and more to the point why cant they turn out some decent tasty food to eat. Please try the tomato starter managers... you cannot expect to fill a restaurant with this on the menu. Or at least buy some tomatoes that have flavour in them. I wouldn't return to this place. If you want to command a premium price, which you do, you cannot serve this quality of cuisine. Everything else is right about this place but if you continue with the chef you have you will soon find yourselves in trouble Im sure.

Very pretty gardens too and people were having afternoon tea on the terrace with amazing views when we left

I hosted my 40th Birthday Party here recently. The night was a great success due to the efficient service provided by my party planner at the venue, Robyn, and also by all the dedicated staff who ensured that the evening ran perfectly for myself and all my guests. It's a beautiful hotel, in lovely grounds, with plenty of parking set slightly away from the main house/building. We stayed overnight in a room within the main building. The room was tastefully decorated, and spotlessly clean, and had everything we needed for a great night's stay. The restaurant provided us all with a wonderful setting to begin the evening and a delicious three course meal. The chef & staff were also able to assist us with a last minute change of plan for two of my guests, effortlessly. Breakfast the following morning was the perfect remedy for any weary heads from the night before, plenty of choice for whatever was needed to start the day ! The bar staff ensured that the drinks were flowing well into the early hours. They were very friendly, helpful and attentive. And the bar was perfect for my guests to sit and chat. The main room and lounge are ideal for hosting an event. There was plenty of room to dance, and within the lounge area to the side we provided drinks for guests and there was room for them to stand/sit & chat whilst still being part of the party. The venue has a real wow factor on arrival and for us it didn't let us down at any point within the evening. It's efficiently run, and any requests during my event and stay were dealt with promptly and helpfully. I really can't thank all the staff enough, as they took care of setting up everything for my night, and clearing up afterwards. Nothing was too much trouble for them. Leaving me to relax and enjoy the evening, which I can safely say that I did, along with all my guests ! I would definitely recommend this hotel to host an event, or just to visit for a meal/drink/overnight stay. The restaurant and bar facilities will ensure you are well fed and watered. The venue & stuff will ensure that your visit/stay/event is enjoyed by all and is a great success. I just wish that they had a spa here as it would be ideal for spa days/breaks.

We stayed in Hartsfield Manor over Christmas whilst we visited my mum who lives nearby. This was the 2nd year of staying there since we enjoyed last time so much. When we arrived the receptionist very thoughtfully automatically moved our room to a quieter area of the hotel which we were very grateful for. The room itself was lovely spacious and clean. The TV system could do with updating but we weren't staying there to watch TV so it wasn't a problem for us. We had superb views over the front gardens and beyond across to the Surrey Hills. During our stay we found the staff to be helpful and cheerful. Unfortunately on Christmas morning when we came down for breakfast we were a bit shocked to hear someone in the kitchen loudly and rudely swearing, so loud in fact that he could be heard very clearly in the dining area it was a most unpleasant start to the day for us and for the other guests who all looked a bit shocked. However the breakfast itself somewhat redeemed the moment. On Boxing day we went out to the nearby Red Lion pub and had a lovely meal there. The grounds surrounding the hotel are well worth exploring with some great views and wildlife to spot such as deer, pheasants and rabbits. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hartsfield Manor hotel. The room was very quiet, bed comfortable, breakfast lovely, location beautiful and the staff we encountered were nothing but polite and helpful.

It is a lovely hotel but lacking attention to detail. Ok I stayed in the annex which was ok but no biscuits with the tea and coffee in the room. The TV was rubbish kept going off and real basic channels all snowy. The light on the phone lit up the whole room in the dark. The toilet extract fan stayed on for 45 minutes after the light was off. Ok might be silly things but it makes that difference that other hotels get right. When in the car park in the dark walking to the hotel you cant see the path up the ramp. The food was good the main hotel was spacious with high ceiling drawing rooms. The breakfast was great. None of the staff came over as enthused to be there. The hotel is tucked away and remote so don't expect to nip out anywhere as you need the car. I just say it as I see it

Really sorry to give a bad name to such a lovely place but customer service was a joke ! Apparently it's the customers fault the bed was soaking wet from the mattress up ! We must have poured something on our bed ! There is no way house keeping are at fault and I must pay full price for my wet bed ! I really am still in shock that after paying so much for a room it did not contain a fan , air con or any other way to cool my 2 year old daughter down in our oven of a room ! Let alone a dry bed ! All this could of been resolved this morning by the manager but instead he basically stood up and called me a liar and pointed out the room will not be rented tonight as they investigate !!! Seriously ! But it's fine that I had to sleep in the room that they now find not fit for tonight's customers . Oh yes and paid full price for it . Shocking customer services by a few ,that was such a shame as some of the staff here were amazingly helpful . Stay here you will love it ..... Decided to stay here for one night as its only about 20 minutes from Gatwick Airport. The hotel has a very long drive passing through well kept grounds and is a very impressive building building our hopes up. We were greeted at reception, informed the restaurant was closed that night, this meaning that we had to leave to go get a proper meal. We were then told our room was in the next building and not in the main building. The other building was well hidden from view and for good reason, it's real ugly. The room was nice but basic and managed to get a good nights sleep. Breakfast was not included so skipped this to have at the airport. The facade makes it look luxury but ends up just being average.

It was very muggy. The bed was small and so bouncy. We did not sleep well as every time your partner moves , you bounce. The building has clearly not been decorated since it was built which judging by the age of the television in the room was at least 15 years ago. Go to a travelodge instead or a premier inn.

Arriving at the building suddenly you are presented with a very lovely old country manor building with well kept grounds. Check in was quick and easy, put out cases in the back room behind reception prior to heading out for the day, (we knew our room wouldn't be available until after 2pm etc). Upon our return we checked into our 2nd floor Double room with views over the front of the hotel looking out across the countryside. We enjoyed a glass of wine and a plank of nibbles sat in big comfy armchairs in a quiet relaxing part of the manor hotel. The Tomato and Olive infused warmed bread from the plank was a treat. It was at this point we remarked how lovely and friendly the staff are, from reception to the other hotel staff. Breakfast was a hot and cold buffet; the sausages were very delicious in particular. The over all experience we give a 4 out of 5. My only negatives are; pillows far too soft that your head sinks into them making it feel uncomfortable, and the extractor fan in the bathroom runs for about 25 minutes after you've used the toilet in the night, it's noisy and could still be heard through the dividing wall even with the door shut. If I were to stay here again I'd book a suite instead. Apart from my 2 negative which may not be an issue for others, I definitely would recommend this hotel.

Booked a deluxe room for my wife and myself to spend Christmas and Boxing Day plus one more to chill, near to the children and grandchildren. Incredibly imposing and impressive building, oozing character, huge sweeping staircase along with some magnificent stained glass windows in the lobby. That's where it ends...The room, almost akin to a dormitory, frugally furnished and without any drawers of sorts. A freezing cold pseudo Victorian bathroom with the heated towel rail not working.A card, strategically placed, from the manager offering his services should they be required. Well. When my wife enquired about facilities available and or a typical local guide often found in hotels. She was shown a 50mm slip on the bottom of the check in sheet. The manager was busy with the computer facing us and preferred to ignore us, leaving his front desk manager to resolve the matter.Breakfast was adequate but the main purpose of the venue is very obviously Corporate business where one has a captive audience. Maybe ok for that purpose but not for a quiet romantic getaway. Definitely not to be there to celebrate Christmas.Sorry!

The lodge is about 200 yards away from the main building and is lovely. Modern and secluded away from the hotel there are only 4 rooms. Once settled in I walked up to the main house for some food and decided on the more informal bar, the restaurant menu looked good but I fancied some pub grub from the bar menus. The portions were good size and the fish and chips were lovely. Decent access into London and surrounds but current roadworks hampered my journey. A great place I will be back.

Another room was booked in the main building, though it had bad central heating noise 24/7. Complained to the desk who moved me into another, much larger and impressive room. Positives: Grand surroundings, comfortable beds, good breakfast, plenty of car parking. Negatives: the disabled access lift did not work all of the time, noisy central heating, towel rail not working (in all three rooms).

A comfortable room with a high powered shower in the Annex with helpful restaurant staff, a lovely setting and a good breakfast...having said that, most of our experiences were of the irritating nature. We didn't realise we'd be in the Lodge at the bottom of the drive and so walking there and back to the main hotel in the dark was not quite what we were looking for. The path to the Lodge door was broken and potholed, and the light over the door was broken and so we had to use our flashlights on our mobile phones to be able to see the way. The welcome we first received on arrival with our luggage earlier in the day was what could be described as only lukewarm...the receptionist was more interested in her computer than she was in us, or helping us. While the evening meal was ok, the soup was very thin and tired, and the gluten free bread products on offer were of the poorest quality (why do public eating places go for the lowest quality on gluten free!!??). The tv freeview box in the room had the HDMI cable in the wrong socket and the power shower was controlled from the top of the bath, which meant you got an eyefull of hot water when you stood up !! And no hand-holds for slightly elderly, rather wobbly people...and no loo brush, and would you believe, we actually had to ask for toilet rolls as a priority request! We got one!! And that was the thinnest paper you could ever find, except in a railway station loo... well, we won't be back, sorry!!

Stayed here for work, I was booked into a king room but there was nothing kink about this. Don't get me wrong, the room was adequate but rage bed was like a large single and it was pushed up against the wall, where was a dubious stain, not to me tigon what appeared to be a splash of bird poop on the coving. The shower looked inviting, a large shower head but the pressure was no where near enough to actually pump the water out with any force, in fact I had to stand as close as I could to the taps to actually get the water over me. Good job I have close cropped hair, my colleague said hers was the same and barely enough to rinse the shampoo out of her hair.Reception was distinctly empty when we arrived for breakfast to find it wasn't included in the corporate room rate (will take that up with corporate travel agent) but I have to say the breakfast was wonderful. As mentioned, the hotel itself (not the annex) is stunning and the grounds rearly pretty.

Me and my family stopped here on Sunday night, when we arrived we were amazed by the beautiful manor house. We were informed i'd be in one wing and my parents in a completely separate building. It's not ideal them having to walk in the rain to go between their room and the manor house. My room was small and the sheets did not look very clean. The duvet cover had what looked like chewing gum stuck into it. We were also told the restaurant was not open and that we'd have to eat in the bar. The food choice was limited but cooked and presented well. The bar were we had to eat was small and each group of people could here one another's conversations, not the dining experience you'd expect. The young man behind the bar was a star and seemed to be doing everything. The breakfast the next morning was good. The cooked breakfast was particularly nice. My issue with this was the service. The multiple trips to the buffet were several plates were used meant we had a collection of dirty plates on our table. I do not think it is unreasonable to expect these to be cleared at least once during our breakfast. We were also given a pot of tea, when this ran out the waitress did not offer anymore and it was very hard to get her attention. This issue though was not her fault, another member of staff should have been present to help her. I would not return.

The room was not in the hotel, but in a motel style block. Food was provided by the barman - one of only 4 employees on duty, apparently. Dressing for dinner meant full wet weather gear as it was raining and we weren't that near!On the plus side, the room was clean and functional. The WiFi was free and worked. The barman worked his socks off and remained pleasant and helpful throughput. This place is more a conference venue than a hotel and should be avoided. Our deal was priced at £99 for £169 of value. This Hotel looks stunning on approach. Reception was extremely friendly, helpful and imposing archetecture. As we were early we were directed to the bar. Once there we found half the bar occupied by one group (no problem) but the rest was 'reserved' for a large group. When we asked we were allowed to sit there whilst we wait forour group to arrive. Our table was exactly as requested and we able to decorate it as it was a special occasion. We ordered our food on a clip board (bit like in school). Starters were good or even very good as were desserts. Veg was well cooked and chips excellent. Shame though was it seems the steaks were muddled. Rare wasn't. Rib eye looked just like sirloin and vice versa. Most felt their steaks were poor, which was at least 7 of us. Normally we would have spoken out but as it was special evening we said nowt. Our waitress was superb and could not have done more to help. Nothing was too much and she helped create a lovely atmosphere.

Booked a night here during a flash sale, so got a bargain price! Had a small room up on the top floor, which was cosy and well furnished. We ate out of the hotel for dinner but enjoyed the buffet breakfast the next morning, was delicious and lots of choice! Lovely hotel and grounds, would definitely come again.

The hotel and grounds are good and loads of parking. The rooms and facilities do need a bit of TLC and redesign. The rooms are large but the furniture is not well located and reduce space. The double beds could be bigger given the room size. The noise level if a function on would be bad so the annexe would be better. The catering for weddings is good and the chef's pies are really tasty. The hotel is well set up for largish events so perhaps that is why individuals have had problems. The staff were fine on our visit , very helpful. Not expensive. Clearly there is more potential in this hotel than realised at present. Not a romantic destination but oddly, good for weddings! Good views. TV in Bar unnecessary.

We booked a overnight deal before heading on to Gatwick the next morning, we choose to eat in the bar as the main restaurant menu had a small selection and didn't suit our tastes. The food was quite slow arriving but when it did we had no complaints at all, well cooked, tasty, a good size portion and reasonably priced all in all very satisfied.

Stayed at this hotel last night as a party of 6, each of us having separate rooms, discussed an early breakfast with the reception staff as we arrived prior to 7am to be advised 'no problem, there should be a menu card in your room' when we advised there was not we were told to telephone reception half a hour prior to wanting service. We offered to book during the evening but were again told 'it's no problem you can book it in the morning, just call with your menu preference and we will bring it to your room'.Late during the evening after returning to her room one of the party tried to pre book breakfast and was told 'sorry no can do 7am is the earliest we offer. The remaining party tried to book theirs after 6am on the morning and were again advised 'sorry no can do' when we queried the conflicting messages the chap who answered the call (bald with white glasses) was exceptionally rude, it was a flat no (when all we wanted was fresh fruit and a yoghurt!Absolutely no concern whatsoever when I advised we had a diabetic in the party which is why we has questioned breakfast in our rooms prior to leaving at 7am for an early morning meet. The gentleman behind reception was discourteous and when I advised that I would be submitting feedback via trip advisor he resigned with 'ok yes that's fine' I seriously wonder why this chap is in the role he is in as he clearly has no passion for customer service or 'going the extra mile'De vere - ensure your staff deliver consistent messages and employ some people who smile!

We had our wedding here in October 2013 and have to say... amazing! We went for a small wedding and then a big hog roast in the evening. Everything was perfect! The venue is stunning, the food was amazing and the staff are fantastic. I would say the wedding team are out of this world... they handle everything on the day and leading up to it the wedding planner is on hand whenever you need her. I would highly recommend this place highly.

The restuarant is geared up largely for functions (conferences and weddings) and so I'm not sure it's the right place for a romantic dinner! However, if you're after a good selection of dishes and a decent range of wines for a business dinner or a group outing, then this will do the trick. The gardens are lovely and you can wander outside with your coffee for a very enjoyable end to the evening.

Yes, this is a beautiful location. We chose to have the breakfast -- the server and chef need replacement! I ordered poached eggs, they were raw and watery. The buffet was neglected and dried out. Next time I go here, I will just enjoy the hotel and have breakfast elsewhere. I'd be concerned to have a wedding there unless I brought in my own caterer.

Been there twice and learnt that there is a big difference in the rooms. some a large, well lit and comfortable, but many others are rather smaller, dark and depressing. all however in urgent need of refurbishment toilets are often broken, water marks on walls and ceilings, old uncomfortable mattresses, plus the dark furniture is far from appealing and is a strange design choice. The good thing about this hotel are the grounds, that are lovely.Restaurant is ok, although for vegetarians choice is extremely limited - when we were there there was only one thing on the menu, and it was not tasty, small and overpriced. There are few nice pubs around that area that are much better options for dinner. also beware of events there -second time around there was a big conference so our plan to have a pre-dinner drink was scrapped as both the bar and lounge were used for the people in the conference. Despite the attractive price, we will not be visiting again.

I nice setting, miles from anywhere, a really nice room, the food in the bar is pretty good 'pub food' but the food in the restaurant falls very short of anything you would actually want to pay for. When you get only a choice of three things on the menu you expect those to be exceptional but they where poor. My deep fire calamari and fish and chips were like something from the bargain bucket at iceland and my wife struggled to finish her soup and her main course because they were both far too rich and creamy. The bar food by contrast is very good (with a much larger choice) shame about the massive television in the bar (personal preference) and the piped music (Classic Ballads or something similar) in the rest of the hotel. Staff very friendly, Room great (main building) just missing an opportunity to deliver a truly great experience.

Stayed for 1 night at a very special rate prior to a flight from Gatwick. Beautiful house in beautiful grounds but my room was in the annex. A little disappointed initially as I was looking forward to staying in the main house but my room was very pleasant ,clean and comfortable with lots of complimentary tea and coffee. Nice view out on the grounds and so quiet you could hear a pin drop. Just 20 minutes from Gatwick airport, for £29 , you can't beat it.

Stayed here last night for my fourth visit. As always very impressed with the hotel. We were here for a function we arranged. The night was faultless the staff were attentive and went out of their way to help. Reservations manager on reception was very friendly and welcoming which is a refreshing change from some of the other hotels I have visited recently. We booked a room in the main house which I highly recommend -perfect and a good night nights sleep. The meal for the function was great and breakfast was good. Hope to make this an annual event. Many thanks.

We had booked in on a good value special deal so can't complain too much I suppose but if I had plaid full whack to stay here I would have been very disappointed. The house and grounds are beautiful but the room we stayed in was in a ugly Eastern block style concrete monstrosity separate from the main house. The glass in the main door was broken, the first room we he had was furnished OK but far too small so that there was no room on one side of the bed for a bedside table. The second room we had 4 days later (door glass still broken, which is inexcusable) was much bigger> would have no complaints about this one except for the fact that we couldn't get the shower to work. Phoned reception who said they'd come along and show us. They took so long to arrive that I managed to work it out for myself. Heaven knows why they don't include some simple instructions somewhere in the room as it's not obvious at all what you have to do.If you stay here, make sure you're in teh main house which I'm sure is 4/5 star and NOT the dreadful annex which is 1/2 star at best!

After driving through the beautiful countryside I was expecting something quite perfect & I was not disappointed. Set in such picturesque surroundings the Hotel itself looks like something from TV. I was attending a wedding & on checking in they had laid out the red carpet, flowers and candles... I was blown away it looked so pretty. Staff were very helpful as I am currently on crutches, they couldn't do enough to help & always had a smile on their faces. We stayed in the annex which was comfortable, and not too far to walk (didn't need to go outside as there are internal corridors). Breakfast was included and it was exactly what we needed, I opted for the fry up which was cooked to perfection. Overall I would love to revisit, great location & romantic settings.

Was very excited when booking this weekend stay in September as part of a Birthday present for my partner.....When we pulled up, everything was as the picture on the website showed it. Lovely big Manor house surrounded by greenery. Unfortunately when we signed in at reception we wasnt shown to a room in the manor house, but outside to a seperate building (which they dont show in the images!!) which looked more like a student housing block. We did grin and bare......until we see the room. There was mold on the ceiling, damp on the walls, stains on the sheets and dust everywhere. We were out before we even unpacked, I told the lady at reception I wasnt paying and will be leaving immediately. I was met with the response 'that is fine, but you still have to pay for the room' . When I refused, I was then offered an upgrade. Needless to say, I said goodbye! I will still check to see my bank statement at the end of the month to see if they charged me. I am not picky person, I work away alot staying in travel lodges, premier Inns (if lucky) but this is by far the worst I have ever seen and the only one I have ever walked away from.

A lovely hotel, perfectly suited to the business traveller during the working week.Free wifi is provided. My only small grumble is that in 2011 there should be a choice of digital tv channels rather than the remaining terrestrial only. Guess this will be sorted at the time of the digital switch over.

This beats hotels I've stayed in for 5X the price! Truly fantabulous! Thank you De Vere!!

We were booked in for a birthday tea specially, even though they weren't doing teas that week. When we arrived a lovely big table with white tablecloth and napkins was ready for us. We were offered coffee and tea, which came promptly, followed by a plate of hot snacks and a cake stand containing a mouth-watering selection, including egg mayonnaise, coronation chicken and cheese and ham sandwiches. The bread was beautifully soft, with the crusts cut off. In addition were warm scones with jam and clotted cream, topped off by a selection of mini cakes. We were so full we had to take the cakes home! Thank you to Penny, who took such good care of us, and the other members of staff who made us feel very special.
