First visit after a number of years. Exceptional service, especially from our Spanish waitress. Very attentive and delicious food. We will be back! Thank you.

The best vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh!

Such a divine evening at David Bann’s. The food is superb. The Jerusalem artichoke and smoked cheese dish was absolutely gorgeous. Even the carrots were totally delicious! The puddings were to die for. Such a friendly and professional service too. We were welcomed from the minute we walked through the door. The mushroom and seaweed consommé was delicious and an unexpected treat. Ursel was fabulous - friendly and helpful. Will 100% return to try other dishes on the menu. Don’t be put off, if you are not veggie - I took three other non-veggies and they were super impressed by the quality and the flavour of the food.

The best vegetarian food…great service from fabulously knowledgeable waiting staff…nothing too much trouble…food can quickly and was so good…so much so that we booked for brunch the following day…which was also superb…if you are a veggie or not…this is a must go experience when visiting Edinburgh…easy access to the Royal Mall so dead easy to find.

I went for lunch but unfortunately I didn't enjoy the experience. When I arrived the male waiter touched me on the shoulder and after I sat down he came and put his hand on the middle of my back. I then told him that I didn't want to be touched and asked if I could have another waiter. I felt really uncomfortable with his actions, which were disrespectful on a number of levels, and consequently I did not enjoy the meal at all. I would have left before eating but I was there because my mother bought me £50 gift token as a Christmas present. I will not be returning to this restaurant.

Such a lovely place. All the staff has been extremely helpful and nice. I had a hard time choosing but ended up having a three course menue including vegetarian haggis as a main. Everything was very well thought out and delicious. I'll gladly come here again.

Such a nice experience and very tasty flavourful food. We can highly recommened David Bann :-) We had the hummus, risotto and the beetroot/cauliflower curry and it was all amazing.

I was in Edinburgh for a few days and visited David Bann twice, cause I fell in love with it on the very first day and I absolutely had to go back for another go before leaving. This restaurant is a true delight, as I've had some of the most delicious vegetarian dishes ever tasted. Original, mouth watering, perfectly cooked and beautifully served food. The dessert were also divine. Great atmosphere, with a very friendly staff whom I had some interesting chats with. I'll be back when in Edinburgh again. Highly recommended.

A recent vegetarian, I’d just got to Edinburgh. Was looking for a nice meal after checking in and going for a run. Stumbled across this restaurant. It was really good! The warm decor and ambience, the delicious food, the friendly service. Didn’t plan on three courses either but happy I did. Finished with a coffee. All came to £39. Will dine here again if I have time this trip.

I always come to David Bann when in Edinburgh even though I'm not vegetarian. The food is so good, well-balanced, interesting and delicious. The staff are really lovely and the vibe is refined but relaxed.

It was very still and calm atmosphere. If you want to have conversations during your meal best place to go. I am not vegan or vegetarian but i still enjoyed the food as well. Mango desert was the best.

I had such a lovely time dining at David Bann. The service is just excellent, all the waiting staff we interact with was supe polite and helpful. The dinner was good, although I wouldn't give it 5 star. What deserve 6 stars are the desserts. Amazing flavours and texture, you can tell that everything is made from scratch by a very talented pastry chef. Really good food and nice touches

I personally treat the food like a religion. If you want "another burger" go elsewhere. If you want quality food and experience for a reasonable price that's absolutely a must have. Go. Check it out. You will thank me later!

When we first arrived in Edinburgh, we tried getting reservations for this place but we couldn’t. Then one night we walked by and went in to see if they had availability and they did. So we tried it. It was wonderful. They have cool, interesting dishes and it’s all quite tasty. A bit expensive but not too bad. Overall I’d recommend it. Especially for vegans.

Made a late lunch reservation well in advance so that it’s the first meal after we landed in Edinburgh. The staffs were fabulous, so friendly and inviting! The food, however, was found slightly lacking. Let’s just say the desserts were the highlight of our meals. We knew what to expect knowing that it was a vegetarian restaurant but we had hoped that the dishes would be more creative and the use of ingredients might be more versatile. Though it could also be our expectations that failed us. Nevertheless, it’s still a great restaurant for the vibe and the hospitality staff members provided!

The food doesn't disappoint! I've been here a handful of times but the quality of food stayed the same. The ambiance is nice and relaxed. The darck chocolate souffle is a must! Will defo comeback again.

I was so pleasantly surprised that a premier vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant was right across the street from my Travelodge Hotel in Edinburgh. The entire staff were so nice and cordial, and the food quality and presentation was splendid. I ended up dining here about 6 times on my 3 week trip. Too many favorites to list them all, but the pear/Gnochi salad, the Risotto main course, and the chocolate cake dessert were out of this world! I will be eating here much more once we move here later this year!

One of my favourite restaurants in the whole world. They have some incredible concepts and manage to make insane gastronomy also feel homey and warm.

My favourite restaurant in Edinburgh. It's my go-to for relaxed and understated veggie dining. Lots of seating, never a struggle to get in. Well thought out menu and the friendliest, most attentive staff. All in all always a pleasant experience.

Superb restaurant serving imaginative, nicely-presented dishes with lovely (and sometimes unexpected) combinations of flavours - all quite reasonably priced, given the quality. Very friendly waiter, nice ambiance, pleasant decor. You certainly don't need to be vegetarian or vegan to go there.

In our travels around Scotland (Edinburgh, Portree, Oban, and Glasgow), this was the best meal of the trip. In part, that's because I'm vegetarian, and so many vegetarian offerings at restaurants are an afterthought, not capitalizing on all the diverse flavors and textures available. Not at David Bann, though. The food here celebrates vegetarian possibilities. It's beautifully presented and tastes delicious. And the service was excellent: attentive but not hovering, friendly, and helpful when choosing dishes.

Choose carefully! Arrived early on a Friday, without a booking was able to get a table as long as we could leave by 7, no problem! Starter arrived quickly and was great, mains took 45 minutes, one, a blue cheese salad was excellent, the other a blue cheese and Jerusalem artichoke dish much less so, lacking any real flavor. The maitre d came over to apologise for the delay, offered to replace the artichoke dish plus extend the booking beyond 7 so I could eat the replacement but by then I"d lost motivation. I think he was genuinely shocked by the feedback so my experience may be unusual and ultimately the restaurant didn't charge for the meal at all. All hugely generous, but how much better to get the speed of service right and serve flavoursome food in the first place?

Food was amazing. They have a great menu. I think I would have happily eaten anything. Perfect amount of options too which is hard to get right! Vegan dessert sharing platter was divine! I’ll be back soon!

Lovely atmospheric restaurant, excellent food and excellent service from staff who were enthusiastic and clearly wanting us to have the best experience. Our waiter Roger was brilliant but so were the other staff. Food was amazing and almost everything on the menu can be made vegan too. Drinks menu also labelled vegan and gluten free options which were great for anyone with dietary needs. Been here a couple of times and it’s always good. Highly recommend

Heerlijk genieten hier van Vegan maaltijden. Niet de geijkte Vegan burger, maar echt iets bijzonders. Vooraf, hoofdmaaltijd en zelfs toetje. Zeer vriendelijk personeel.

I really liked the restaurant and visited it two times during my stay. I am vegan, therefor I definitely had to try this restaurant. It was possible to even spontanuously still have a dinner on new years eve although i had no reservation. The friendly ppl just fit me in before the evening reservations start and informed me, that I have only an hour to eat. Good service! I enjoyed purely vegan dishes. They serve a small glas of hot soup before you start choosing your meal - very delicious. First visit I ate a very tasty ravioli (!) and vegan Haggis (this one I did not like so much). On my second visit I tried the soup of the day , a very good mushroom risotto AND a marvelous desert with a hot chocolate cake with fluid chocolate inside. Would definitely visit again :)

Après avoir commandé les plats sont arrivés sans trop d’attente c’est ma première expérience végan et ce fut une découverte bravo je vous conseille en entrée le humous excellent bravo au chef et merci à l’équipe en salle très serviable moment très très agréable

On a cold damp evening just after New Year the restaurant was buzzing when we arrived at 19:30. The service was warm and welcoming and it was reassuring to have a waitress confident enough to check she had the order written down correctly. The food was beautifully presented and tasted delicious - particularly the tofu starter (& I’m a meat fan!). The only negative was the grit/rock hard puy lentil in the ‘haggis’ dish-could happen anywhere but the response from the kitchen could have been better. Don’t let this put you off-excellent vegetarian food with a well priced wine list. Well worth a visit.

It’s very rare that I take the time to leave a review on a restaurant but this is a moral necessity. As a vegan, I long gave up on the idea of fine dining. Usually satiated with home-style meals and vegan junk-food, the idea of finessed vegan food seemed either too expensive or physically inaccessible. The experience at David Bann was phenomenal! I had 3 vegan starters: the pear and gnocchi salad, the Thai style fritters and the polenta, the layer of which was so good and so fresh, it melted in my mouth. The plum sauce with the Thai fritters was finger licking good and the pear and gnocchi salad was beyond perfectly balanced. Thoroughly enjoyable. To top it all off, the service was incredible too. Staff was welcoming and warm, and the dishes were served super quick. Presentation was beautiful and if there was possibly any little thing I could be picky about would be to have slightly more elevated decor, but that’s just personal preference. Overall, 10/10 experience. IF YOU’RE VEGAN, PLEASE GO!

Great place to try vegetarian/ vegan food. Inform them if you don't drink alcohol or if it is not suitable to your religious beliefs as they add alcohol to many of their menu item. Always ask before you order. Great food and great ambience. Service was extraordinary.

As you can tell from the stars I really rate David Bann. For me it's the thought that clearly gone into the menu. I think it's as good as some of these Michelin places at a fraction of the cost.

Visited on 22 Dec 2023 for dinner. Wasn't aware about reservation which is recommended but they do take walk-in. Fine dining vegan restaurant. Cozy ambience. Excellent customer service. Staff offers to store our coat at their restaurant coat cupboard so we can sit comfortably. Served delicious vegan food. Food artistically displayed. Ordered 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 desserts. Price moderate for fine dining; £20 - 30 person. Total amount spent £103++ for 4 persons. Highly recommend Jerusalem artichoke and smoked cheese pudding, and Risotto marinara of mushroom and cannellini beans, and Dark chocolate Soufflés. You need to go down a flight of stairs in order to access the washroom at the basement. Not wheelchair friendly if you need to use the washroom. Pros: Wide varieties vegan options Cons: Everything is great

Petite mention spéciale pour le soufflé, portion un peu réduite pour le ravioli et risotto un peu trop cuit (peut-être juste moins de chance aujourd’hui pour la cuisson)

Delicious, thoughtful food, beautifully presented. Service was an elegant balance of friendly and understated. Fantastic complementary "amuse bouche" of vegan consommé the night we were there: seaweed and mushroom. Banns is still superlative after all these years.

No wonder this restaurant has been there for 24 years! Service was very attentive even though it was quite busy. We had 3 courses sharing a starter and a desert meant for 2. Mains selection was hard to choose from as they all sounded amazing but we both went for Artichoke with smoked cheese which was delicious. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Edinburgh.

Do not miss this restaurant! I have eaten in my share of restaurants, and this one takes the top spot. The food is truly remarkable. The service is absolutely exceptional. My partner booked us for my surprise 30th birthday holiday, and I couldn’t be any more elated. Huge compliments to the chefs. A massive thank you to our server Roger, who was second to none. We’re from the south west of England, but I would gladly make the trip back to Edinburgh to visit here again. Thank you for a special night.

We wish there were other David Bann locations around Scotland. Exceptional service, amazing food presented in an artistic manner, nothing oversalted, and an enjoyable treat. I think this was the best restaurant meal we had during our NC500 trip.

Awesome evening … I wouldn’t normally choose a veggie restaurant but pleased I did .. we had a fantastic evening with great food (the chips were amazing!). The place had a lovely feel, the service was fantastic and we had a great time. Thanks DB it was a fabulous start to a long weekend.

Muy buen restaurante para degustar comida vegetariana, de hecho, de lo mejorcito que he visto en la ciudad. Excepto los de la entrada, el personal es muuuuy atento y dispuesto a ayudarte( se agradece que tengan buen humor y una sonrisa permanentemente). El haggis es simplemente de 10!!!! la única pega, que la distribución está muy mal aprovechada, teniendo la parte de arriba vacía, podrían repartir mejor a los clientes para evitar estar tan juntos. Aún así volvería una y otra vez hasta probar todos los platos de la carta!!

Vegetarian Restaurant. Was here with friends during late summer. We booked just a couple hours before arrival, and the staff was kind enough to accommodate an extra couple seats as we had more friends joining. I didn't really like the dish I ordered, but I'm glad everyone else liked what they had. Service was mostly friendly and accommodating.

Another visit to Banns after a few years. Just as good as before and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The waiter should have asked if one of our items (risotto) was to be Vegan or Vegetarian as we forgot to mention. We would like to go back a few times and try all the menu...

Travelling with a vegetarian friend, we decided to book a table at this place. Even for non-vegetarians it was really nice. The food was fresh and tasty. Their wine list was impressive too. I guess one of the best vegetarian restaurants in in the area.

This is a great place for vegetarians, with food from different cousins, all made with fresh vegetarian products. We tried different dishes, all were delicious, but I must say that the gluten free chocolate souffle, the vegetarian haggis, and the blue cheese pudding were amongst my favourites.
