Seriously good coffee and porridge. One of the best breakfast/brunch spots in Edinburgh. Whoever is making the porridges and coming up with the flavours needs a raise! The porridges are perfection. We get excited to try every new flavour. Our favourites were the hazelnut choc and the vanilla peach. The coffee is the closest I can find to decent Aussie coffee here in Edinburgh (that is a compliment), and cafe fitout is very modern, airy, light and open - reminds me of Aussie cafes on the beach.

I love the decor in this cafe, modern Scandinavian minimalism, and they have great coffee and pastries, but I have found the service to be really unfriendly at times. I absolutely understand them having a policy to limit the number/placement of people working on laptops, but the way this is conveyed could be a lot nicer and better explained. I was told I could either sit facing a wall next to the toilet or at the window where the sun was blinding. I asked about a seat at the adjacent window that had more space and some shade and was just told aggressively that that seat was not available, without any explanation. Later, I was in the middle of writing, head down, with a coffee and pastry and the same server (a woman with short, dark-brown hair) interrupted to ask if I wanted to order lunch. I said no and she asked me again, making me feel very unwelcome. It's a shame as this is a lovey space but it's really off-putting to feel like your presence is an imposition and the lack of friendliness in how things are explained and negotiated. I hope that this is something management might see fit to address.

The place seems amazing, but we went without reservation in a raining day. I asked a couple of times to seat in a better area, they said they were fully booked but of course they had lots of no shows and even after we finished the tables were empty still. We sat in a horrible place facing a wall. The food was good but the service was not as expected. It’s this kind of place that you feel bothering them just to request your food and water.

I love this place and their pastries. Unfortunately the service is lacking. I’ve been there 3/4 times (and I will probably go again) but I always feel extremely awkward. Feels like you can’t request anything or they get annoyed. Only felt good whilst being served by a tall guy, he is definitely the more friendly in there. — also great ambiance but no hot water in the restrooms?

We enjoyed our morning here as a family! Staff was friendly, the environment was great, my husband described the cinnamon roll as “the Goldilocks of cinnamon rolls (just right)”. We were a bit disappointed at the breakfast though as it was quite expensive and not that great. The coffee was good! We’d go back, just wouldn’t order breakfast.

The BEST brunch restaurant in Edinburgh. Their menu is seasonal, so check out their instagram stories before coming or maybe keep it as a surprise. I had Trout Royal and the hollandaise sauce was like no other - it was cheesy, fresh and flavourful. Good quality eggs. Very generous portion. Their pastries looked amazing. Service was amazing. Food was served within 10 minutes. Excellent value for the portion and taste! Will keep coming back for more!

Very friendly and “hip” cafe. Was quite busy for a Friday midmorning with lots of moms with strollers. The service was excellent as well as the coffee. But… I had the bagel with the egg, mushroom and hash brown. The egg came out sunny side up. I wish I would have been asked how I liked my egg cooked. I assumed it would be poached and not fried so did not have the chance to mention I preferred it over medium. I hate the slimy bit in the sunny side up egg. There was also a weird taste running through the open sandwich and it was not pleasant. Also quite hard to eat with cutlery and impossible to eat as a sandwich… Overall I did not enjoy the meal. The menu was limited with four “brunch” options and wished there were simpler options offered as some of them were a bit odd. So I would come back for the coffee but not the food.

I mean...it looks good on Instagram, which is what seems to be key these days. The service is clinical; I don't really expect to be told where to sit in a coffee shop. Can't really fault the product; nice slice of cheesecake and decent coffee. Love the minimalist style but a sense of laid-back cosiness is missing from the atmosphere. A bit of music, a more laissez-faire attitude from the staff; these things would help create a warm and welcoming ambience, especially on cold mornings. I tried it once- I wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

Felt a little disappointed in my recent trip to Argyle Place. Clean and minimalist cafe. Looks great from the outside. Went for opening on Sunday at 09:30. Place was empty. First people in. Only 2 of us. Asked if we had a booking. Told only a couple of chairs by the door were available(which is totally fine if it was busy). Was at least 4-5 empty tables the whole time we were there. Service was good. Quick to serve us. But ordered a flat white and cinnamon bun. Flat white came with a hair in it and was basically served half a cinnamon bun. Fairly expensive for what I got. Such a small portion. Little disappointed in the serving size and the fact that we weren’t able to sit at any of the empty tables available. Instead sat beside the draft of the front door.

We have had some good experiences previously but this one was a let down. Anyone expecting a deli experience for the Reuben sandwich would be surprised at this offering, overcooked and with a little meat overpowered by some sort of cheese sauce. Really a melted cheese toastie that looked burnt. (£14!!). The bagels were better but the one disappointment left us unhappy. They should have changed it when we questioned it.

Really great place for coffee and quite nice chilled out vibe. My partner had the hash brown with mushroom, cavalo Nero and apple ketchup which was really great. I wish I had got that as my Croque Madame was quite disappointing. The honey roasted ham was quite bland as well as extremely dry plus the Gruyère cheese did not really add a lot of flavour. When I had pointed out that my meal was not great we did not receive an apology or an offer of a refund/discount. Which I would expect from a place that is a bit on the more expensive side in comparison to other brunch cafes.

I go here only occasionally (it's a bit out of my way) for their speciality coffee, which I find vey good. I just wonder why they are so coy in giving information about it: last time nothing in sight by way of info, and only after some questioning was I given a sheet explaining origin etc.. There were two types, and the waitress seemed a little unsure about which one was used... I guess that while they are roasters, they see their business mostly as a food place. Fair enough, and both their savouries and their sweets look great! Prices are high but in line for Edinburgh given the good quality.

First time visit to meet a friend who enjoys the place. The tomato soup with homemade pesto was delicious although too creamy for me I much prefer stock based and the toasted sourdough bread thick cut with whipped creamed butter was superb. My date opted for the corn fritters on an Asian slaw inside blue tortillas making Tacos but served flat more like Tostadas but the taste was really delicious I couldn’t grasp in all my years of cooking what the taste was apartt from the corriander. I opted for the pigs cheek in pitta with tzatziki and slaw, no Mayo which was great but the cheek was very gamey in taste, too strong and had it before and cooked it many times, so only ate half. I had the nut cream donut also made on the premises but I’d advise the chefs to get the piping back deeper into the donut as was dry and chewy without a decent filling. Herbal tea and really first class tasting coffee was an added bonus but as it’s a roasting house and would be disappointing if coffee wasn’t up to scratch. The premises is minimalistic but exceptionally clean which I loved. The toilets are unisex which was a tad confusing hoping I was in the right place as the sign just says Toilets>> Thankfully it was, very clean well looked after and beautiful big pink stone sinks and one doesn’t feel like they have been on a marathon to get there for a tinkle. The staff were excellent with attention to detail and keeping eyes open for anyone needing help with whatever. Small menu, I feel it could be bigger and more choice only by another few dishes as easy coverage to look after even by two chefs. Was glad to see no chips on the menu though although the addition of ice cream choices would be great in this type of place and although no alcohol on sale making it BYOB is something I’d be doing. All in all I enjoyed my first visit and will def return.

She gets out a box for my cake, I tell them I want to sit in; she says we’re full at the moment. I can see at least three tables and the window bar with three seats free with no reserved signs. I feel stunned and stupid and say “fine”; she says sorry for the misunderstanding. It doesn’t feel like a misunderstanding, I feel singled out and mistreated. Everything on the dish was perfect except one of the eggs was overcooked, however was great anyway. Highly recommended

The food, service and environment was absolutely fantastic. It was more than worth the money, I would even consider it cheap for the quality and service of food you get. The presentation and taste amazed us for the price, will be going here more! Wish the opening hours were longer.

Resturant looked really nice from the outside so we're both really looking forward to going! On entering most staff (our waiter excluded) & customers alike looked miserable with no music and quite bland food and resturant to match. The restaurant doesn't achieve what its trying to achieve and has no atmosphere or feeling of quality at all (Cheap bathroom, uncomfortable chairs - don't want to pay for their music licence!!)

Staff very friendly and lovely portions of food which arrived quickly. Perfect size for lunch and reasonably priced. A great find!

I would avoid this shop. The waitress is busy looking at the cutlery and misses the moment to serve you. Prices are sometimes cheeky, considering that a 10% tip is automatically calculated. The meat was very tasty and good, although not cooked to the desired doneness.

It was excellent - the best baked potato shop anywhere. So sad to see it close. It will be greatly missed.
