It's been some time since we last ate here.The reviews continue to reflect the excellent food created and cooked by a skilled team. The dishes are different, delicious and served by attentive and knowledgeable staff. I ordered aubergine koftas for a main and when I asked for the recipe one of the team was more than happy to describe how the dishes was created. I remember the days when recipe cards were available.....that was a long time ago. How about a cook book? Great place to eat.... don't miss it!

Words fail me to be able to explain how special the food is here, I've been coming for over 10 years now although not regularly as I don't get many chances to visit, but each time David Bann is an amazing experience. The attention to detail in the presentation and flavours of each dish is just off the scale and something you don't find elsewhere. I'm vegan and plenty of the dishes are clearly labelled vegan and many can be made vegan for you. The restaurant itself is immaculate, nice ambience and lovely staff who look after you well. Just go... it'll be so much better than I could ever describe it to you!!!

Food is really good, good size portions and tasty - feels very fresh all round and have fun twists on traditional foods. Was a little disappointed with the atmosphere as there was no music playing and the service was lacking some warmth and enthusiasm.

Food was Really bland , all felt a bit lazy like a vegetarian choice at a weather spoons a bit tasteless. Service was good.

The starter was a blue cheese salad and the mixed leaves were identical to the content of leaves from a supermarket packet. The waiter confirmed that they were pre-packed and delivered every morning. I had hoped a dedicated vegetarian restaurant would have made up its own sourced leaves and provided more variety than Tescos. The second course was haggis wrapped in courgette rolls. ~The haggis resembled haggis but that was its only identifying feature. It was completely tastless and swimming in a watery gravy which added no flavour whatsoever to the other items on the plate. I complained and received apologies and a refund on this second course.

Vegetarian restaurant with a nice relaxed feel and mist of the menu vegan or vegan on demand. Food is always wonderful and for the dessert, the vegan assiette of desserts for two is fantastic (almost makes you want to eat it all yourself!) 😋

Excellent service, friendly and comprehensive. Extensive wine list and dishes were very well put together. The risotto was a particular favourite, though the vegetarian haggis was particularly inspiring. Absolutely fantastic value for the experience, thanks for a lovely evening!

Have been popping in regularly for a starter as a late working lunchtime snack once a week and they are all great too. Amazing vegetarian restaurant with very tasty vegan options. Lots of things made in house - the homemade smoked tofu was amazing! - vegan pudding sharer was also outstanding. Great wine list (we had the cortese white which I highly recommend, and a glass of the lovely dessert wine too). Service was top notch, friendly and efficient - couldn’t fault the place.

Best meal in Edinburgh. Superb service, quiet ambience, excellent knowledge of wine to accompany the dishes. Two diners shared an entree, each had a main with a large glass of wine, 1 dessert and 2 after dinner drinks. Bill totaled £80. Highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to a return visit.

As a vegan (with also a lot of allergies) this place was amazing! The smoked tofu is the best tofu I’ve ever had. Loved everything we got.

The gnocchi and hummus were tasty. If sharing the hummus, you might request more bread.

Had dinner here on a whim and it was fantastic. Wonderful food, with clean simple flavours letting the ingredients shine. The staff were very attentive and gave great service throughout. Highly recommended for all, the only downside was seeing all the food we didn't order coming out and looking so good!

Tried their vegan Haggis which tasted very good and also their dessert with strawberry sorbet , only the cost seemed high for the quantity

Fresh, delicious, inventive dishes. I’m an omnivore but was wanting something healthier after a lot of low-veg meals while traveling. I was blown away by the quality; one of the best meals I’ve had. Healthy but also rich and substantial; I didn’t miss meat one bit. This is not one to miss. I got the Leafy smoked tofu salad (appetizer size) and the gnocchi with warm peach salad. The gnocchi was truly special.

Vegetarian signature dishes, good in overall however missing something. We had the Papardelle, sweet potatoes kofta and risotto. Portions were generous, taste good but not unforgettable. Without any salt/pepper/spices/bread/cheese on the table it's hard for customers to fine tune their plate to match individual taste, maybe add that? Asides, the dining room is a little cold and boring.

I had to go all the way to Edinburgh to eat vegetarian and vegan. Finally a restaurant for people who, like me, don't eat meat. The dishes are well presented and tempting, whereas many people like to tell vegetarians that they only eat salad. Well no! The dishes are as good as they are beautiful, a real delight. Small downside on the speed of execution of the dishes. In fact, we ate the starter and the main course in less than an hour which is too fast for us but we understand that in such a touristy place, you have to go quickly. That said, this in no way detracts from the quality of the dishes. The prices are also very affordable. I highly recommend.

We had an absolutely lovely time here and the food was out of this world. It was inventive, creative, delicious, and overall an amazing treat. Cannot recommend it enough for vegetarians. Finally a place that elevates vegetarian cuisine to higher places.

I am not a vegetarian, but was traveling with a friend who is both gluten-free and a vegetarian. I would go back to David Bann on my own, so delicious was my pea, mint, basil pudding. The service was impeccable, attentive but not hovering. We enjoyed a leisurely meal, and left with that warm glow of a great meal.

Efficient and very friendly service who knows the menu and was able to adapt the menu to our request. Thus the gnocchi starter could be transformed into a main course and the scoop of ice cream accompanying the chocolate fondant could be changed. Everything was extremely good! The atmosphere is subdued and rather calm in the restaurant thanks to the sound-absorbing wood panels which decorate all the walls of the room. We were able to settle in at 6 p.m. on a Monday evening at the beginning of September without booking but I still recommend a reservation because the reception manager's notebook still seemed quite full. For information, the toilets are in the basement, so there are stairs to go down to get there.

My partner brought me here for our anniversary and the food was absolutely delicious, best food I’ve had! Was so flavoursome would 100% come back for food again we both enjoyed it so much. We had the beetroot cauliflower curry with banana fritters and mash I never knew all this could taste so delicious and the dessert was amazing also highly recommend. Quiet nice atmosphere and lovely decor.

Disappointed expectations! Nice atmosphere but risotto overcooked and the grains drowned in oil could not be distinguished! Service not attentive and too hasty Drink chosen from the list but sold out so I fall back on another one suggested by them, but wasn't it better to indicate it first? In the end, having to necessarily choose to leave a tip (starting from 10% and up) was quite annoying! We are not in America!

The risotto was exquisite, the organic noodles were very good, the eggplant was great, and the dessert (vanilla panna cotta) was very delicious. And the service, attended to efficiently and sympathetically by Sara, was great. Congratulations to the kitchen team and Rubén, a Spanish chef who has been here for many years. Really disappointing experience with the food. Salad was flat and sparse with the pomegranate and even the pomegranate that was in it was pale and transparent! Soup was average.

I am a vegetarian and i am so happy to find a good vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh centre. Very good quality food. Even my non-vegetarian husband was amazed by the food. Fairly nice ambience. Not super noisy. May be a tad (just a little bit) more expensive than your normal veggie place, but totally worth it. Got to make reservations though.

Fantastic food and service. My mum mentioned it was my birthday when we first went in and I had a wee dessert brought with a candle after eating which was so thoughtful.

The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere. The service is courteous. The food was delicious. However, it is difficult to eat there if you have allergies to certain spices or the like, as they cannot simply be left out and you are therefore very limited in the choice of menus on offer.

Food was excellent but no disabled facilities. If you are in a wheel chair do not visit as it would be impossible to use the toilet which is down two flights of stairs

The food and cocktails at David Bann was spectacularly wonderful. This was the best meal of our two-week trip to England and Scotland (which included Michelin-starred restaurants). The dining room was modern and warm. The service was impeccable, but a bit slow with a change is service mid-meal. I definitely recommend dining here!

Perfect ! Everything was excellent. Having shared dishes, I tasted the aperitif, two starters, two main courses and two desserts. There wasn’t a single one that was worse than the others. Only favorites. If I return to the UK I will eat there again without hesitation. It clearly has its place in my favorite restaurants. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant room is quite pretty.

My wife is vegetarian and I’m not. The food was so good we ate here both days we were in Edinburgh. I was simply blown away by the tastes and it’s a lovely relaxing atmosphere. The ravioli starter was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. The entrees were exceptional and dessert was epic. We highly recommend this restaurant even if your not vegetarian, you need to go.

Everything was super delicious! Will be coming back for the butternut squash raviolo with courgette cream and sage oil. The mango and coconut dessert was incredible too, loved the attention to detail with the toppings, if you like coconut get a full scoop of the coconut ice cream! I was served by the lovely Ailsa, very kind and helpful. 10/10 would recommend!

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call David Bann the best restaurant in Edinburgh, and I will tell you why. The quality of ingredients paired with superb flavour combinations is unparalleled. The deserts were perfectly balanced when it came to sweetness. I would highly recommend the panna cotta with basil strawberries. Add to that highly trained and friendly staff, and you have the perfect dining experience. Oh, did I mention they are helpful when it comes to accommodating any preferences when it comes to ingredients or portion size (for kids)? We booked a table the next day for lunch. This vegetarian restaurant is a must for gourmet food lovers!

While I'm not actually vegetarian (so I'm not sensitive to cheese or cream in my food, etc), if you want to eat something not in the steak pie realm, which is also interesting and totally delicious, come here! It's a classy place and we LOVED it!

It was an amazing experience here. I loved the fact that it was a complete vegetarian restaurant. We tried kofta and risotto. Both were great. Soup was good too. Although we didn’t try the desert, it looked amazing and everyone seemed to like it.

Overall, I had an excellent experience. The menu is pleasantly clear and rich in flavor variations. If you want to get to know vegetarian cuisine at a high level, this is the right place for you. The wine list also offers a nice selection, including open wines. The interior creates a cozy impression. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about your colleague.

I’ve been frequenting banns since 1996 when it was in Hunter Square up the Royal Mile by the Tron Kirk. Iconic venue, iconic moments: my discovery of veggie haggis, for a start. My 21st birthday lunch. My 40th birthday lunch! I have never once been let down by David Bann. My only regret is not seeing more new items in the menu and not being able to meet David Bann in person to tell him I’m a lifelong fan of his restaurant. Unfussed, chilled, relaxing surroundings which allow you to savour the feast laid out before you. Enjoy and cherish!

Some of the best vegetarian food I have ever had, and we eat vegetarian a lot, as both our daughters are vegetarian. The gnocchi and braised fennel appetizers were great and very creative, as were the curry and risotto main dishes. Definitely on the list of top restaurants I have tried in the UK.
