As a vegan (with also a lot of allergies) this place was amazing! The smoked tofu is the best tofu I’ve ever had. Loved everything we got.

Tried their vegan Haggis which tasted very good and also their dessert with strawberry sorbet , only the cost seemed high for the quantity

Had dinner here on a whim and it was fantastic. Wonderful food, with clean simple flavours letting the ingredients shine. The staff were very attentive and gave great service throughout. Highly recommended for all, the only downside was seeing all the food we didn't order coming out and looking so good!

The gnocchi and hummus were tasty. If sharing the hummus, you might request more bread.

Fresh, delicious, inventive dishes. I’m an omnivore but was wanting something healthier after a lot of low-veg meals while traveling. I was blown away by the quality; one of the best meals I’ve had. Healthy but also rich and substantial; I didn’t miss meat one bit. This is not one to miss. I got the Leafy smoked tofu salad (appetizer size) and the gnocchi with warm peach salad. The gnocchi was truly special.

Vegetarian signature dishes, good in overall however missing something. We had the Papardelle, sweet potatoes kofta and risotto. Portions were generous, taste good but not unforgettable. Without any salt/pepper/spices/bread/cheese on the table it's hard for customers to fine tune their plate to match individual taste, maybe add that? Asides, the dining room is a little cold and boring.

I had to go all the way to Edinburgh to eat vegetarian and vegan. Finally a restaurant for people who, like me, don't eat meat. The dishes are well presented and tempting, whereas many people like to tell vegetarians that they only eat salad. Well no! The dishes are as good as they are beautiful, a real delight. Small downside on the speed of execution of the dishes. In fact, we ate the starter and the main course in less than an hour which is too fast for us but we understand that in such a touristy place, you have to go quickly. That said, this in no way detracts from the quality of the dishes. The prices are also very affordable. I highly recommend.

We had an absolutely lovely time here and the food was out of this world. It was inventive, creative, delicious, and overall an amazing treat. Cannot recommend it enough for vegetarians. Finally a place that elevates vegetarian cuisine to higher places.

I am not a vegetarian, but was traveling with a friend who is both gluten-free and a vegetarian. I would go back to David Bann on my own, so delicious was my pea, mint, basil pudding. The service was impeccable, attentive but not hovering. We enjoyed a leisurely meal, and left with that warm glow of a great meal.

Efficient and very friendly service who knows the menu and was able to adapt the menu to our request. Thus the gnocchi starter could be transformed into a main course and the scoop of ice cream accompanying the chocolate fondant could be changed. Everything was extremely good! The atmosphere is subdued and rather calm in the restaurant thanks to the sound-absorbing wood panels which decorate all the walls of the room. We were able to settle in at 6 p.m. on a Monday evening at the beginning of September without booking but I still recommend a reservation because the reception manager's notebook still seemed quite full. For information, the toilets are in the basement, so there are stairs to go down to get there.

My partner brought me here for our anniversary and the food was absolutely delicious, best food I’ve had! Was so flavoursome would 100% come back for food again we both enjoyed it so much. We had the beetroot cauliflower curry with banana fritters and mash I never knew all this could taste so delicious and the dessert was amazing also highly recommend. Quiet nice atmosphere and lovely decor.

Disappointed expectations! Nice atmosphere but risotto overcooked and the grains drowned in oil could not be distinguished! Service not attentive and too hasty Drink chosen from the list but sold out so I fall back on another one suggested by them, but wasn't it better to indicate it first? In the end, having to necessarily choose to leave a tip (starting from 10% and up) was quite annoying! We are not in America!

Really interesting menu, with lots of creative dishes. Beetroot and cauliflower curry and the stir fry were both excellent. Better than expected portion sizes too. Very pleased we followed our friends' recommendations for this.

Resturant looked really nice from the outside so we're both really looking forward to going! On entering most staff (our waiter excluded) & customers alike looked miserable with no music and quite bland food and resturant to match. The restaurant doesn't achieve what its trying to achieve and has no atmosphere or feeling of quality at all (Cheap bathroom, uncomfortable chairs - don't want to pay for their music licence!!)

Excellent vegetarian food in a very pleasant atmosphere. Original, tasty dishes, brilliantly prepared. We ate one day and repeated for dinner another day. The risotto was exquisite, the organic noodles were very good, the eggplant was great, and the dessert (vanilla panna cotta) was very delicious. And the service, attended to efficiently and sympathetically by Sara, was great. Congratulations to the kitchen team and Rubén, a Spanish chef who has been here for many years. Congratulations on your work.

Excellent vegetarian and vegan food. Has gluten free options which is great if you are coeliac. Excellent service, plenty of seating and relaxed environment whether you are dining along or with others.

Cannot recommend this place enough. Very innovative and tasty menu.

Really disappointing experience with the food. Salad was flat and sparse with the pomegranate and even the pomegranate that was in it was pale and transparent! Soup was average.

I am a vegetarian and i am so happy to find a good vegetarian restaurant in Edinburgh centre. Very good quality food. Even my non-vegetarian husband was amazed by the food. Fairly nice ambience. Not super noisy. May be a tad (just a little bit) more expensive than your normal veggie place, but totally worth it. Got to make reservations though.

Fantastic food and service. My mum mentioned it was my birthday when we first went in and I had a wee dessert brought with a candle after eating which was so thoughtful.

Lovely calm setting in the middle of the city. I had the pea and blue cheese pudding. It was tasty. Staff was attentive and easy to talk to. Highly recommend.

The restaurant offers a cozy atmosphere. The service is courteous. The food was delicious. However, it is difficult to eat there if you have allergies to certain spices or the like, as they cannot simply be left out and you are therefore very limited in the choice of menus on offer.

Food was excellent but no disabled facilities. If you are in a wheel chair do not visit as it would be impossible to use the toilet which is down two flights of stairs

The food and cocktails at David Bann was spectacularly wonderful. This was the best meal of our two-week trip to England and Scotland (which included Michelin-starred restaurants). The dining room was modern and warm. The service was impeccable, but a bit slow with a change is service mid-meal. I definitely recommend dining here!

Perfect ! Everything was excellent. Having shared dishes, I tasted the aperitif, two starters, two main courses and two desserts. There wasn’t a single one that was worse than the others. Only favorites. If I return to the UK I will eat there again without hesitation. It clearly has its place in my favorite restaurants. The staff is very friendly and the restaurant room is quite pretty.

My wife is vegetarian and I’m not. The food was so good we ate here both days we were in Edinburgh. I was simply blown away by the tastes and it’s a lovely relaxing atmosphere. The ravioli starter was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted. The entrees were exceptional and dessert was epic. We highly recommend this restaurant even if your not vegetarian, you need to go.

Everything was super delicious! Will be coming back for the butternut squash raviolo with courgette cream and sage oil. The mango and coconut dessert was incredible too, loved the attention to detail with the toppings, if you like coconut get a full scoop of the coconut ice cream! I was served by the lovely Ailsa, very kind and helpful. 10/10 would recommend!

It wouldn't be an exaggeration to call David Bann the best restaurant in Edinburgh, and I will tell you why. The quality of ingredients paired with superb flavour combinations is unparalleled. The deserts were perfectly balanced when it came to sweetness. I would highly recommend the panna cotta with basil strawberries. Add to that highly trained and friendly staff, and you have the perfect dining experience. Oh, did I mention they are helpful when it comes to accommodating any preferences when it comes to ingredients or portion size (for kids)? We booked a table the next day for lunch. This vegetarian restaurant is a must for gourmet food lovers!

While I'm not actually vegetarian (so I'm not sensitive to cheese or cream in my food, etc), if you want to eat something not in the steak pie realm, which is also interesting and totally delicious, come here! It's a classy place and we LOVED it!

It was an amazing experience here. I loved the fact that it was a complete vegetarian restaurant. We tried kofta and risotto. Both were great. Soup was good too. Although we didn’t try the desert, it looked amazing and everyone seemed to like it.

Overall, I had an excellent experience. The menu is pleasantly clear and rich in flavor variations. If you want to get to know vegetarian cuisine at a high level, this is the right place for you. The wine list also offers a nice selection, including open wines. The interior creates a cozy impression. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, I can't say the same about your colleague.

I’ve been frequenting banns since 1996 when it was in Hunter Square up the Royal Mile by the Tron Kirk. Iconic venue, iconic moments: my discovery of veggie haggis, for a start. My 21st birthday lunch. My 40th birthday lunch! I have never once been let down by David Bann. My only regret is not seeing more new items in the menu and not being able to meet David Bann in person to tell him I’m a lifelong fan of his restaurant. Unfussed, chilled, relaxing surroundings which allow you to savour the feast laid out before you. Enjoy and cherish!

Some of the best vegetarian food I have ever had, and we eat vegetarian a lot, as both our daughters are vegetarian. The gnocchi and braised fennel appetizers were great and very creative, as were the curry and risotto main dishes. Definitely on the list of top restaurants I have tried in the UK.

Great food! great service! Everything was top notch, it's a wonder they don't have a Michelin star. Everything I had was plated beautifully, and tasted beautifully as well.

Our experience at David Bann's was truely exceptional. The location is nice and central, yet when you are inside it feels like you are in your own little world. The staff is incredibly friendly, helpful and warm. As a vegan, David Bann offers a huge variety of options on the menu and none of them diappoint. On the contrary, they were simply delicious and left us astonished. We chose a variety of starters, mains and desserts and have to say, all were stars by themselves but the reisotto blew us away. Highly recommended to go and enjoy an amazing experience.

We are both Vegan and while we enjoyed David Bann it was not spectacular as we had hoped. The service was just OK, a little cold. One of our dishes came with a dairy sauce after telling them that we are vegan and we had to point it out to them after eating it. They were apologetic but that was it. The restaurant itself is quite lovely and very comfortable, lots of room between tables, none of the feeling cramped and squished together that you can get in many restaurants. And the presentation is also beautiful. I got the curry and the best part was the fried bananas, the curry itself was watery and not great. Chocolate cake was very good and came with raspberry ice cream. We have eaten in many upscale vegan and vegetarian restaurants and this did underwhelm us unfortunately. I would go to Henderson's any day over here.

Fabulous vegetarian food a little off the beaten path. Discovered on our trip through Edinburgh this past week and visited the restaurant twice! Delicious food, good service, relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend!

Everything was top notch! This was our last meal in Scotland before heading home to the States and it couldn’t have been more perfect!

We visited in 2017 and we were very happy. Back in Edinburgh today we decided to go back to find a completely different experience. Plates were very small, even the main. We paid over 30£ each to go back home still hungry. Mine also was just about warm; maybe at the right temperature would have been decent I'm afraid there won't be a third visit.

Hitting all the right notes here, upscale food in a casual atmosphere with super service at reasonable prices. We were very pleased with all the dishes great salad, risotto and eggplant kofta w a rhubarb tart paired a rich chocolate ice cream. Decent wines by the glass too. Recommended.

Been there with my father (77) and my sister (53) during our holiday in Edinburgh. I (46) chose it because it was close to our apartment, we made a reservation of course. The menu was interesting and the food delicious. Everyone of us tried a different dish and we had bread with awesome Hummus and Spicy Salsa as a shared Starter. Could have been a little a bit more bread. The service was very friendly. None of us are full-time-vegetarians but we enjoyed the food and the selection on the menu a lot.

Love the place. Been quite a few times. Menu changes up quite a bit and I really like it. Reasonably priced for the standard of food too.

This is a very nice, up market restaurant. The service is first class, and the food is truly amazing. So beautifully presented, each plate looks like a work of art. And so tasty, truly Delicious. I had the vegan haggis with neeps and tatties, which was excellent. And the desserts were to die for. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

So “okay” sums it up quite well. First of all, the positive...the service was extremely friendly, there was free infused water and dashi broth (at least when we were there). Unfortunately the portions were very small, especially for the price. The food also tasted good, but it wasn't anything special. We had the risotto. The ambience was nice, but the chairs looked cheap and reminded me of a garden. You don't have to do it. We had hoped for more.

High volume trendy restaurant off a quiet street in the heart of the city. The menu selection is nice with only vegetarian/vegan options. We had the ravioli & the gnocchi pear salad to start, the veg haggis & the mushroom risotto for our main. We didn’t have a reservation but they’re extremely busy so I would recommend making a reservation in advance. Food, service & ambiance were all on point.

Wooow! Incredible discovery that this restaurant, the starters and dishes were fine and excellent. It is with infinite sadness that I no longer had room to taste the desserts. If I were to return to Edinburgh, I would go to this restaurant without hesitation. It is advisable to reserve a table.
