Fui lo suficientemente estúpido como para dejarme un beso en una reciente visita de almuerzo a Hendersons. . . . . Vivo en Glasgow, solo estoy en Edimburgo de vez en cuando, generalmente elijo a Hendersons para comida vegetariana de alta calidad, pero sentí que sería poco probable que lo recupere. He estado yendo a Henderson por años y cada vez es excelente.La última vez que estuve allí tuve una hamburguesa de brócoli y queso cheddar que no solo era deliciosa sino que tenía la consistencia de una hamburguesa normal. Puede que no suene impresionante, pero cuando vas a casa e intentas cocinar algo similar, te das cuenta de lo bueno que es su trabajo.

Nous sommes allés deux fois au Henderson durant notre séjour, une fois pour le goûter et une autre pour le repas. Nous étions contents de pouvoir goûter au haggis, spécialité locale, tout en respectant notre véganisme ! C'était vraiment bon et leurs desserts aussi sont savoureux. Et les serveurs sont très sympa !

Had an interesting time here, it's a very strange set-up. Seat yourself, grab a tray and go to the canteen, order your food and drink and pay at the till. I'd say 'table service' is a stretch to be honest. Either way the food was great, I had the vegan haggis, coleslaw and a Thai salad. All were good and vegan.

We visited this restaurant, eager to have some nice vegan dinner - and we were not disappointed. I had the Henderson's Hagis, which came with some nicely done purple potatoes and a gravy-style sauce to go with. It was delicious! Flavourful, aromatic, and warming. I enjoyed every bite.For pudding, I had the Chocolate Nut cake, which was a fabulous finish to the meal! I also tried the Carrot Cake, which was so good it made me wish I had two puddings.I can't remember the name of the gentleman who served us, but he was an excellent waiter. He was very polite and helpful, and was there at a moments notice if we needed anything.Finally, I'd say the food is a good price given the amount of effort and finesse that goes into making great vegan dishes. 5 stars is the only rating this place should get!We'll definitely be back here next time we visit.

Not a Vegan but decided to give Henderson's a go anyway as the menu looked nice. It was delicious and I was very impressed especially with the carrot cake dessert. Service was brilliant too, couldn't fault it.

On arrival the restaurant was cold there was a small heater next to our table so I put it on .The waiter was pleasant we ordered Haggis and the burgers I had the burgers with chips and onions that were submerged in oil could not eat them .My partner had the haggis and purple potatoes its was very bland no tast We were so looking forward to the visit as we don't go to restaurants much due to being vegan

I nipped in for some lunch, it's a very quaint little place, great for eating solo without feeling awkward. I had the sliders, great fries and dip. Then the banana choc mousse, it was thick, velvety and amazing! I was so stuffed from this at lunch I didn't eat dinner. Waiter was happy and polite, definitely worth a visit

Came here on my own mid-week whilst on a work trip. They were welcoming and easily accommodated a table for 1. I had the jackfruit and tomato stew which was lovely, and the quinoa balls served with it were unique and also really nice. I would have liked the dish a little spicier but this is just personal preference. Nice selection of wines too.

One of the best restaurants in Edinburgh. The staff were attentive and the food superb. Have now visited the restaurant twice and not been disappointed.

I have been back to Hendersons on a number of visits to Edinburgh and it always surpasses expectations. The food is extremely well put together and tasty. I am very fussy about food and have spent a lot of time in Greece but Hendersons filo pastry pie was notably excellent, the pastry was absolutely delicious, don't know if it was housemade, I feel they really care about quality. I've been to so called Greek restaurants in this country whose filo pastry was pretty poor. I never return to a cafe or restaurant if I feel the quality was indifferent but I'd be at Hendersons most weeks if it was closer!

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic dinner on Sunday evening here. We had the playful platter to start, we are in love with the Cashew cream cheese!!! Then I had the pasta Ragu, which was gorgeous! And my boyfriend had the haggis, which the waitress told us had been on the menu for 57 years!!

It looked great from outside but little did we know what lay within. The, what I can only assume is ironically named, 'playful platter' was the gateway to what was to come. Salt village is a one way road to salt city. The bhudda bowl. As someone who lived in Japan this is not teriyaki sauce. Molasses and marmite with soy sauce covered plain rice, shitake mushrooms that had clearly been rehydrated and become flavourless as the water was surely used for a stock on some other dish, the now water mushrooms were saved for my sad plate. Everything was just salt. My friend had the haggis. As a chef he was horrified at the gravy. There was just no flavour at all. I recommended he try haggis as a non scot and was embarrassed. The whole thing was awful.

Don’t get me wrong the food was great, but would I go back .... NO! The waiter was shockingly bad, and downright rude.

The food was fantastic- really tasty & decent sized portions. The lady serving was polite & very pleasant. Food is cooked to order by just one chef. Around 12 tables so small & cosy. A great find.

We were very excited to visit this restaurant as both me and my girlfriend are extremely into our food. Both of us have been vegan for a couple of years and this was supposed to be the highlight of our weekend. We rang to book for a Saturday night but said they were only taking walk ins, no issue we will be happy to wait. Upon walking into the restaurant we were greeted with a very abrupt rejection followed by a condescending tone of disapproval at our expectance to just “get a table”. However we saw the restaurant was full so decided to give them the benefit of the doubt, and went off to wet the whistle before indulging in vegan treats. We returned an hour later, and to our excitement there were not one, but two UNRESERVED tables ready to go. But we were not welcomed back with a “thank you for waiting” or “follow us this way” but with a very uncomfortable atmosphere. The chef whispering he can’t handle more customers and the one waitress treating us like naughty school kids.

Great ambience, cosy, friendly. First visit a little confusing with the way to order but the food was great and we returned for breakfast in the morning.

Era solo una rebanada de pastel encima de una salsa de frutas para que se viera elegante. Normalmente un restaurante tendría crema / helado. Todos estuvimos de acuerdo en que estaba muy seco y no era agradable comerlo. Lo más probable es que lleguen allí desde la cafetería de al lado, donde los pasteles son probablemente más baratos. El personal no podía tener en cuenta los precios inflados, ya que solo tenían 2, un cocinero y el camarero que hicieron todo lo demás, o la comida que ciertamente no era exótica / emocionante o costosa de comprar. Es mucho mejor ir a Un restaurante adecuado donde los precios son iguales / más baratos pero mucho más agradables.

On a cold, windy January day I stepped into Hendersons having read about it online. I decided on the chestnut soup with a swirl of chestnut oil and crispy sage leaves. It was delicious, the restaurant was warm and relaxing and the waitress attentive. It was a highlight of my stay in Edinburgh.

Incredibly warm atmosphere and inviting staff from the moment we entered through the door. The food was devine, the staff attentive and made us feel as we were the only table in a fully packed restaurant. Highly recommended and quite possibly the Scotland’s finest vegan venue.

We have just enjoyed an amazing vegan breakfast at Hendersons. The tofu scramble and vegan haggis were fantastic. This was so good we are going back for dinner tonight!

Le reste des ingrédients était bon mais il y avait beaucoup trop de chou, d’autant plus qu’il était immangeable car excessivement salé: nous étions incapables de finir le plat même en se forçant. À côté de cela l’accueil laisse à désirer et la pièce n’était pas assez chauffée.

I was with five members of my family, none of whom are vegan, but we all loved the food! It was so tasty, and I was surprised when I realised I didn't miss eating meat in the slightest. The ambience is lovely, the food delicious and beautifully presented and the service excellent. We will definitely be going again!

Nice interior and helpful, friendly staff. The food was bursting with flavour really enjoyed it and decent portion sizes too. And this is coming from a non vegan! Best ginger beer I've had, fair trade and organic too even better

Vegan haggis - don’t knock it until you’ve tried it ! I could eat this every day - excellent A must visit location when in town

My wife had visited many years ago and told me that a visit is a must. She was right. Though I am not vegetarian I thoroughly enjoyed the food. Well cooked and tasty. Along with the good service a very enjoyable meal.

Having written a glowing review of Hendersons in 2018, our recent visit was a bit disappointing. The staff were fine, not particularly friendly unlike our previous visits (when Monika worked there). We had decided to meet some potential business connections in Hendersons, due to our previously great experience at the restaurant and because it is vegan. The downside this time was the food. My husband had the Haggis, which he enjoyed. I opted for the same dish as I had chosen for the past three visits .. the Tofu Buddha Bowl. One of our guests chose the same. Our other guest chose the Jackfruit Stew. I was really surprised that the Tofu Buddha Bowl was rather tasteless, and the mushrooms tasted very strange. It was not the same dish as previous visits. Our guests didn't like their food and left most of it. Myself and my husband will probably come back to Hendersons in the future, but I hope that the food improves.

We enjoyed our meal, the food was fantastic and so was the staff's attention! The only problem is the way our clothes smelled after lunch...

Love this restaurant was fine with it being vegetarian now fully vegan would not have known if I hadn't read before. Easy to miss down very steep stairs small awkward door but it doesn't put people off. Lots of choices reasonable prices, staff good.

We booked Hendersons after googling vegan restaurant in Edinburgh. We weren't disappointed. We had the platter to share to start, the fig tapenade and chive cheese dips were lush. I had the haggis which was lovely and wholesome, hubby had the teriyaki tofu and was his favourite meal of our whole stay. We followed with espresso afargato which was delicious. Great service and lovely feel to the place.

Found the service extremely poor and slow. Food was average . Prices are average but service really let the place down. Took over 20 min for someone to come over to order drinks then food another 30 min.

Great food and atmosphere. Unfortunately the two times I’ve come in, the staff was overstretches, unfriendly and did not show that they cared. Shame as the food is great.

Very good vegan food. All wine are even vegan. The service are very good. At first we thougt it was closed but a few steps down in cellar and i was big restaurent.

We were looking for a vegan restaurant not too far from our hotel and opted for Henderson.

We were very lucky to secure a late booking in a very busy little restaurant. The dinner options all looked great and after much deliberation I opted for the smoked aubergine & lentil ragu pasta whilst my mum took the special which was pumpkin risotto (after seeing the table next to us order it). Both were just fantastic, the only improvement for me would have been to include garlic bread on the side and chunks of aubergine in the sauce. Will definitely be returning on our next Edinburgh visit.

Came here for a simple morning roll with fantastic fillings to start our day. Haggis and sausages are excellent; decided to try scrambled tofu - very tasty! Very friendly staff.

My husband is dairy free due to intolerances. Even though lots of restaurants are now offering more options he is still greatly limited. When we saw Henderson's was a fully vegan restaurant we decided to go for an evening meal so that he could eat anything from the menu.

The place is overpriced. Haggis were tasteless and bland. And jackfruit was sour. The spices that were used and jackfruit do not match together. It is a pity if that is their idea of how vegan food should taste like.

After reading amazing reviews about this place we decided to have lunch here. The restaurant is small, the interior is nice. All meals on the menu looked interesting but weren’t that tasty in reality. We had haggis and jackfruit in tomato-coconut stew. Haggis completely lacked flavor, only potato and caramelized onions that came with it somewhat saved the overall taste of the dish. Jackfruit stew was too sour, it was difficult to taste anything else in this dish because of the acidity. When it comes to price and quality, the food is overpriced in comparison to the quality you get. This kind of cooking one would expected in a canteen/ eatery rather than in a restaurant and hence the prices are too high for such kind of cooking.

I am told this is a Scottish institution and I can see why. Based on a cafeteria style set up, namely get your food and then sit down. Overall the restaurant is pleasant, with wooden tables and chairs and plenty of space. Some may not like the lack of table service but overall I would recommend.

I had a lovely meal here with my boyfriend. The meals are large portion and very yummy! Definitely get your money’s worth! Friendly staff and clean restaurant. My only criticism was the bean burger and chips was a little greasy but that is personal taste. Will definitely eat here again!

After having excellent food at Hendersons restaurant we knew we wanted them to cater for our wedding of 80 guests.

We had heard of Hendersons Vegan / Vegetarian Restaurant and their attached "Deli" and then came about it by accident when wandering around Edinburgh. We immediately booked for a Friday evening as they had live music. Turned out to be a Django Gypsy tribute and they were good. Had quite a chat with them before we left. Anyway the food was good. We both had soup followed by vegetarian Haggis - well you have to in Scotland don't you! Whether you are vegan, vegetarian or simply looking for an alternative to your usual diet, do go and try it. You won't be disappointed.

Fui sabiendo lo que iba a encontrar y la experiencia superó mis expectativas. el lugar está muy céntrico y tiene una vibra muy chula. Los chicos y chicas que llevan el espacio son encantadores y la comida es tremenda. Para mi gusto el haggis está bien aunque demasiado picante (teniendo en cuenta que no me gusta el picante, claro), PERO lo que está tremendo, tremendo es el wrap de falafel. Sí, puede sonar muy "falafel, en serio?" pero está sabrosísimo, buah, imperdible!!!

We came across this restaurant while exploring New Town and decided to come back later for dinner. I am vegetarian but also eat a lot of vegan foods. We ordered the haggis which was good. We also ordered leaves stuffed with risotto which was very good. But the best was the dessert! We ordered the chocolate cake and carrot cake, and they were to die for! I really liked the decor and atmosphere too. We also learned that around the corner, Henderson's has two more restaurants. I would have loved to tried them--next time!

When I'm in Edinburgh I usually have a meal at Henderson's Vegan Restaurant. The last time I had been there, about a year ago, I was rather disappointed with the quality of the food, so it was with some trepidation I went there again on a recent visit to the capital. I'm glad to say that they are back to being excellent!

I'm not vegan, or even vegetarian but two of our party were. The filo parcel and salad were lovely, but the haggis...? I've had vegetarian haggis before, it's oaty and peppery and rather good. This wasn't, it was a chilli, heavy on tomatoes and kidney beans.

An excellent Vegan restaurant which we can highly recommend. We had their Vegan Haggis which was absolutely a delight. Friendly staff and great accomodation. Very good Vegan restaurant you ahould def check out!

I visited Henderson's yesterday for a late lunch with two of my carniverous best friends - an excellent opportunity to show them that they wouldn't be missing out if they ever decided to follow in my footsteps and become vegan... sadly, I was very disappointed. I ordered the haggis main, which was different to the meal displayed on the website (there was no actual potsto mash) and it was stuffed full of kidney beans (which I absolutely hate). I can't actually remember if the menu stated that the haggis was made of kidney beans, it may have done, and if so then that's my own fault and on realising my mistake I would have ordered an alternative meal... but at no point did the host / waiting staff ever return to the table to see if our meals were satisfactory, not when when my almost full plate was later removed from the table did staff enquire as to the issue with my meal. We then waited over half an hour before having to ask the host if we could order desert, and again there was a significant delay in anyone later returning to ask if we wanted to order further food or drinks. It's a very small restaurant and mid-afternoon it wasn't so busy that this level of wait seemed reasonable. The food left me hungry, and the service left a lot to be desired. I'm not sure I managed at all to convince my friends that going vegan was the way forward, and I doubt they will ever trust my restaurant choices again!

Nuestra última noche en Edimburgo busqué en Google el "Mejor restaurante vegetariano", hicimos reservas, lo cual fue una muy buena idea ya que fue durante el Fringe y estaban ocupados. Nos sentamos a los pocos minutos de nuestra llegada. Un servidor terminó en un minuto tomando una orden de bebidas y explicando los especiales. El no vegetariano amaba el Estofado marroquí y dijo que era perfecto. El Haggis era sabroso, su nuera, que es vegetariana verdadera, dijo que era la mejor de Escocia. Disfruté la sopa y ensalada.

I’m always a bit embarrassed, when you arrive at a restaurant with friends and family from abroad and hope for a nice experience to showcase your country, only to be disappointed. In a very tourist-orientated place like Edinburgh, it amazes me that restaurant staff in some places act like you have passed wind under their noses!

When I got there at 20:00 it was very busy hour so I had to wait for a while. But it was worthy. Their cauliflower soup taste heavenly. Very kind and friendly personnel. Look forward to going there again to try some other dishes.

Having walked into this place it gives off the right vibes....until you order food and go right (as you walk in) into the dining room, which is a dump!

We visited during the Fringe. The little restaurant has a welcoming interior and we were seated quickly. The menu was interesting but sadly we were disappointed with the portion size and quality.

Would have like to have had a meal at the little Henderson restaurant in Thistle St. Unfortunately, it was 7pm and we were a group of 5 and the poor snowflake in the restaurant said we were too many and they couldn't cope!

Stopped by on a whim and was not disappointed. I went for the aubergine, lentil and walnut ragu. It was full of flavour, rich and robust. The sauce was really morish and I'd happily eat it again. I'm a recent veggie convert and with food like this I'll not be going back. Delish. The atmosphere was easy going and the price was very reasonable for the quality.

After visiting Holyrood castle, we found Henderson's. The restaurant has a casual, quick-dining vibe, which is great for a tired family on the tourist trail. The food is delicious and creative, served with a smile. Terrific selection! Vegan Haggis? Yup! And it was great! Would recommend to anyone - enthusiastic vegans, and everyone.

I am not a vegan. Neither is my husband! We are here one night during the August festivals. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table, but it was SO worth it when we were served! I decided to eat Light and started with a cauliflower-based soup served with oatcakes. The soup was creamy and chunky with grilled Costner’s - both satisfying AND light. Others at our table order a pasta special with mushrooms and eggplant. They said that it was so delicious that they didn’t miss the meat. We all ended up ordering dessert: chocolate cake, carrot cake and a coconut cheesecake special that we delightful. Days later, we still think it was one of the best meals we had in Edinburgh! Dairy-free and gluten-free items are clearly marked. The kitchen was quite accommodating!

Delicious food available for all tastes at this intimate restaurant in Edinburgh. My husband and I ate here and had the vegan haggis and pasta, both were so tasty. Highly recommended.

Me and mum came to Hendersons for the valentines set menu, the food was incredible! I had macaroni cheese and actually had to check with the staff 3 times that it was definitely vegan as it tastes so much like real cheese! The value was excellent across the 3 courses, everyone was delicious! Would definitely recommend!

The three of had the Haggis, Sliders, Jackfruit Tomato Stew, with Vine Leaves as the starter with a bottle of Malbec. We also had the Cheesecake and Chocolate Nut Cake. The food was lovely. I would rank the stew the highest. All came to under a £100, so reasonable value. The service was good too. A small place please note. And do book in advance as it is very popular.

My husband and I both had the teriyaki tofu and it was amazing! I wish there was a Hendersons here at home. While in Edinburgh, we ate at two locations and loved both!

Attentive service. Main course, Buddha Bowl, was good enough. Nothing special. Not in the league of Stem and Glory but the same price. Dessert, Chocolate Date Cake was v good though I didnt expect to be charged extra for ice cream. Hidden extras like that don’t reflect well. Decor is too predictable and lacked charm

Menu is fantastic as it’s imaginative and well executed. Wine list is great and service just spot on. I’ve gone 3 times now without a reservation and not been disappointed.

I have spent a few days in Edinburgh with by better half and came across this gem returning from walking up Arthur’s Seat. Quaint little cafe with good attentive customer service.

We stayed in an AirBnB right nearby. I have two in my family gluten free and the options were delicious. Highly recommend!!!

Loved everything about this restaurant from start to finish. Service by our waiter was impeccable and the location of the restaurant is charming, I love that it sits on one of the cobbled streets away from the hustle of princess street etc. The food was delicious, I would have died and went to heaven had it of been good old mash potato with my vegan haggis but thats personal preference. Would definitely return.

The great advantage of Hendersons is convenience. There is always a selection of hot and cold dishes and plenty of tables. Sometimes there's live music in the evenings. The food looks very nice. Unfortunately, that's as far as it goes. If you are the slightest bit discerning, the food is generally neither skilfully prepared or even that tasty, just ok. Hot dishes tend to be lukewarm. Catch one just out of the oven if you see it arriving, otherwise it may have been sitting there too long. Nothing that couldn't be improved. Just reading a few cookery books might result in the food more appetizing, learning to combine ingredients properly – and perhaps having smaller dishes on display would make it easier to ensure they are fresh.

On our first day in Edinburgh we were looking for somewhere nice to eat, so we went for a veggie place. We were delighted! The atmosphere is cozy, but the food is up to a very good standard. The service was equally of high quality (for example, our cutlery was changed from starters to main, which you usually wouldn’t find in an easy-going restaurant). We really enjoyed overall and we would come back!

What a great find while on holiday in Edinburgh! The food was delicious and thoroughly enjoyed by the vegan and the other 3 members of our group who are not vegans or vegetarians. The service was good and the prices were good value. Will visit again when in Edinburgh, thanks for a lovely evening:)

I was in charge of arranging a trip for a group of special friends from Dorset most of whom had never been to Edinburgh or Scotland before. One of our members is vegetarian so I thought Hendersons would be a great idea. We booked well in advance because it’s very popular and we had a lovely table down in the underground part all candlelit and with wonderful live music for us to enjoy with our meal. I enjoyed the vegetarian balti curry which was one of the specials.

We booked a table for dinner here as are vegan so is one one of the few we tried whilst in Edinburgh. Was a nice small,cozy restaurant with delicious food. They seem to be very popular so definitely book ahead as people who hadn’t booked were turned away several times whilst we were there. The menu is small but varied so something for everyone on there. The starters of cured carrot bruschetta and chestnut soup were delicious and very generous portions! The bruschetta would have been enough to share for us ! The mains of haggis and sliders were equally delicious. Definitely worth a visit!

Great food and lovely staff. Waiter was part of the Henderson's family, didn't get to catch his name unfortunately, but he was a gentleman.

Stopped off for a coffee - nice to have a change from all the major chains. Coffee and service both excellent.

Visited Henderson's Vegan on a recent business trip to Edinburgh.

Our first visit to this restaurant, though I'd been to the main one and the Salad Bar several times. Both our main courses (pasta & haggis) were delicious, despite the gravy with the haggis being oversalted and the helping of spring greens minuscule. The chocolate and banana mousse was creamy rather than moussy but also delicious. The young man who served us was polite and charming. It's such a pity we live 2 and a half hours away by train!

The cauliflower soup and the haggis were delicious. Reasonably priced food and the service was great. Definitely recommend!

Very disappointing breakfast. Dirty table and surrounds, untrained staff and stodgy pancakes. What a shame as previously much better.

A lovely little vegan restaurant. Very friendly and helpful staff who seem to care for their customers. I had their signature vegan haggis which was incredible. Highly recommended place for any Vegans living or visiting Edinburgh. Reasonably priced.

I am not vegetarian, let alone vegan, but I had a delicious meal in Hendersons. Their version of haggis was absolutely delicious. I wish I had been around longer to go back and try other things on the menu. It is a lovely personal restaurant - quite small, so you may need to book to guarantee a table. Friendly and helpful staff.
