We heard that Belinda was retiring and had to have one more visit before she left. She didnt fail to impress as the same with all other previous visits. As usual fantastic cakes and her knowledge of teas is on a different level. I wish her a very happy retirement but feel she wont be resting too much

Visited here with girlfriends for afternoon tea. A very unique and quirky experience. Interesting decoration William Morris wallpaper, murals about Alice in Wonderland which is a nod to the author Lewis Carol who was born nearby at Daresbury. Heavy oak furniture. staff dressed in traditional servant outfits. The owner is truly passionate about all aspects of tea, history , preparation and serving. It was interesting though I was just a little confused about what I was about to drink. The tea we received was good though it didn’t stay hot enough as it was served in a stoneware teapot with no cosy . My preference is for a metal/silver pot. We did however try a light and refreshing lemon and ginger tea. The star of the visit were the excellent sandwiches, their homemade potted beef tasty snd the ham from a local butcher outstanding. Davenport’s are keen to use local suppliers and the egg sandwiches although under seasoned were from their own flock The huge selection of little cakes were magnificent I think from memory there were a choice of 10. My favourite was the orange and chocolate macron ( memories of a Jaffa cake) and the frangipan bake well tart. Scones are served freshly baked and beautifully light and moist. Served with butter jam ( again home made) and cream. There wasn’t quite enough jam and cream for our party but as it was at the end of tbe meal we didn’t bother to ask for more. All in all a lovely experience , we were there for 3 hours and were not pressured to leave. Plenty of parking and it is advisable to book. Finally if you choose to use artificial seeetner in your tees, best keep it hidden as the owner certainly doesn’t approve!!!!😂

I visited Davenports of Cheshire tea room on Saturday (20th May) with my partner and parents. The service was brilliant from start to finish and we had the pleasure of Belinda sharing her knowledge on the history of afternoon teas - which blew us away! we tried around 4/5 different teas and couldn't believe all the different flavours. The afternoon tea itself was delicious too, with a good variety of sandwiches, savoury and sweet treats. The scones were something else! We can't recommend Davenports of Cheshire tea rooms enough and we can't wait for our next visit. Thank you to Belinda and her team for such a lovely Saturday afternoon.

While we have enjoyed afternoon tea at Davenports on several occasions this was the first time we had experienced their "at home" service. It was exceptional!! From the ordering and consequent email communication re tea choice, through the delivery, to the eating and drinking, a wonderful experience!! The afternoon tea was delivered at the promised time, all was beautifully boxed and wrapped in a ribbon...together with a birthday message, a rose and single candle. On opening the boxes the food and teas were beautifully presented. And each food item, both savoury and sweet was a delight to eat. An ample quantity allowing us to spread this birthday treat over lunch, afternoon tea and supper. An experience to repeat and recommend!!

Had the most wonderful afternoon at Davenports Tea Room and Florists . Experiencing their Tea Tasting Experience with Traditional Afternoon Tea. Belinda was fabulous explaining the history of the Tea & guiding us through the array of teas which she not only recommended but also tailored to our taste. Each one unique & perfectly blended & brewed . I have experience many afternoon teas but this is the best I have ever been too . Not only for the quality of the food which was so fresh & all homemade which you don't get at most afternoon teas as most are mass produce , not at Davenports . But the experience from start to finish both ladies where warm & welcoming and always about checking your enjoying yourself but not overbearing either . Thank you so much for a wonderful Sunday 💗

This afternoon tea was a Father’s Day present from my daughter but we decided to defer the Experience to take advantage of the ‘ Victorian event ‘ in the run up to Christmas. What a good decision this was , the management had gone to great lengths to attractively decorate the tea rooms in a Victorian/Christmas theme and even dressed in Victorian attire. The afternoon tea was a delight in every respect, the food was clearly freshly made using homemade and local produce. Minor dietary quirks were catered for superbly. We opted for traditional tea / coffee rather than the offer of mulled wine ( alcoholic or non-alcoholic) , I can only say the coffee was delightful. The cakes/ patisseries were varied, beautifully presented, and mouthwatering. Warm , fresh homemade scones completed the afternoon tea. The management team of Davenports are to be complimented, the afternoon tea was a delight and could not be faulted in any way.

The service was delightful and efficient and the food fresh and enjoyed by all of us. The only criticism I have is my main course salad appeared to be exactly the same size as the side salads served with the ploughmans lunch and the ciabatta which others in our party ordered so I felt a little cheated especially noting the price. However the salad was lovely with lots of variety, beautifully presented, and garnished thoughtfully. I just would have appreciated a little more of it! I said I was speaking to the young lady and Basil told me that she had only been there an hour and didn't know what to do! Very abruptly! She told me I didn't know what it was like running a busy tea room. Why would a new member of staff start work at 12.30 (peak lunchtime) when she has had no training?? HOSPITALITY: Kindness in welcoming strangers or guests. Ring a bell?? Needless to say we found a very welcoming cafe a short distance away

Visited Davenports for afternoon tea today for my mums birthday. After reading previous reviews we were looking forward to it. Unfortunately we were all really disappointed with the experience, the food was of an ok standard nothing fantastic and certainly not better than other afternoon teas I have had for half the price. What I felt really let it down was having only one pot of tea per person I think if your paying over £25 a person then tea or coffee should be unlimited. I thought the actually dining room lacked any atmosphere and hated the fact as a party of 3 we were seated on a table for 6. No one explained any of the teas to us or what sandwiches and cakes we were served. I think unfortunately the afternoon tea at Davenports is very overpriced for what it is, I have enjoyed much nicer afternoon teas at other venues for more reasonable prices. I’m afraid I won’t be visiting again and I don’t think I would recommend to me this place didn’t live up to my expectations.

I had booked a day off work to recover from a night out on Manchester and decided to take my girlfriend to Davenports for Lunch. The experience was excellent. I order the patè and th of had the ploughmans lunch. The quality and presentation was excellent. The atmosphere is very traditional and clean and the photographs I took have prompted many others to promise a visit.

Visited the Tea rooms with my partner and Aunt. The tea rrom itself is lovely and quaint the staff are polite and friendly. The food we had again was fine and we took home quite a few of the sweet cakes. Scones soft and warm and a vast choice of tea we had chocolate and mint which was lovely. Overall a lovely place to visit a tad expensive at 25.99 each but wort it for a treat.

I’d seen the signs for this place hundreds of times but never ventured to it as I always seem to be rushing somewhere else. So, I planned to walk here with my parents the next day, which we did. After a 7 mile cross-country hike, and a little bit of rain, we arrived only to be told they might not be able to fit us in as they had a number of afternoon teas booked. They offered for us to wait, and within 5 mins we were seated in this quaint little tearoom.

Hubby had coffee and walnut cake and I had lemon meringue cake both were delicious. Service was quick even though they were quite busy. All the staff were smiling and welcoming. Definitely recommend.

We were lucky to get a table when we turned up. All food is local and home made and fresh. Therefore be prepared that what you want may already to have sold out that day. The tea and food are great however to get the most from your visit you really need to plan and book in advance. One of our party had wanted a scone but they were reserved or sold out before we ordered.

Arrived at 10 am, opening time. We asked if they had a table for two, to which a young lady seemed unsure and had to ask a gentleman. The gentleman told us the room was cold, it was freezing. There was a small plug in heater on low, the wall heater behind my chair was not on. So glad that I hadn’t taken my 90 year old mum with us. I asked if I could have a full English breakfast but was told that you have to order this 24 hours in advance due to the AGA cooker!! This was stated on the menu. I then ordered poached eggs on toast and my friend ordered bacon and egg sandwich. The young lady then came back to say that with it being so cold she wasn’t sure if the hens had been able to lay any eggs, so we may have to order something else, as they don’t buy in any free range eggs. Our luck was changing and the eggs arrived. Not sure what the bacon and fried egg sandwich was cooked on!! It was very pricey for what you actually got, very disappointed. Felt so sorry for the young lady working there as every question she had to ask the gentleman and he kept disappearing. Won’t be returning.

Visited this lunchtime with my family and we were genuinely shocked by the lack of customer service and the extremely rude lady who greeted us as we arrived. We asked if there was a table for us and were treated as a huge inconvenience but she begrudgingly offered to have a look. She then spoke to the waitress who was standing right in front of us and said “you can seat the five but tell them we need the table back by 2.45”. As we were taken to our table we were told it would only be possible to order tea and cakes which wasn’t really what we wanted as it was lunchtime. In the end we felt so uncomfortable and awkward we left without ordering anything. If it was too busy to serve us we would have completely understood but it was the rude manner that really spoiled the visit. We were made to feel embarrassed and awkward just for enquiring about a table. If customer service is important to you I would definitely avoid coming here.

Went here today with just the girls of the family. Whilst the surroundings were lovely and staff polite and uniquely dressed. The food which was served for the Victorian afternoon tea which cost nearly £30 pp was not value for money, the selection of cakes were pretty but not enough for 1 of everything so we didn't each get to taste everything.. Most chocolate type so very sickly.. Sandwiches were nice but for £29 each i wud expect at least 1 sandwich each, 3 small triangles just isnt good value.. I dont feel we got what we paid for in terms of food.. We left feeling sick from the sweet cakes but not full. The stand of cakes i photohgraphed served 3 adults.. The sandwiches were in the bottom tier but obviously had been eaten. Nice as one off but won't be returning.

This is a place we love to come to when we can we have been here a few times for afternoon tea and it just gets better every time , each time we think it couldn’t possibly get better but it does , Belinda and her staff are always so helpful and friendly with nothing being to much trouble, this is a lady who clearly loves what she does which shows in her attention to detail and the first class service which is always delivered , the sandwiches where lovely and fresh and filling so tasty , the cakes are amazing especially the baubles which a lot have obviously gone on to , the source of the ingredients and makes of some of the cakes is explained in detail which is nice , the scones were served warm and the chocolate orange ones are so nice , the tea room was decorated like in the Victorian days even including a newspaper from the 1850s , we can’t wait to come back again and would highly recommend Davenports as the place to go for afternoon tea ,

Coming from Yorkshire, I know what a good afternoon tea should be, this I'm afraid was very disappointing for the price of £29.99. Davenports lost marks for slow service, tea served in an earthenware teapot drawing the heat out of the tea, bland savoury offerings (other than the mushroom soup) and overly sweet cakes. The whole event took too long and by the time I left my feet were like ice having been on the stone floor for nearly 2 and a half hours. Sorry I've had far better.

We were back again at this gem of a Tea Room in Cheshire. This time for one of their Victorian Christmas Afternoon Tea. Fantastic homemade produce and cakes from local bakers. Highly recommend the Walnut & Stilton scones. The decorations are fantastic. There are original Victorian newspapers on the tables to read. The staff are also in period costume. I would highly recommend a visit.

We went in for tea and scones, but most there were having afternoon tea and they look superb. The choice of tea was bewildering and the scones lovely. My wife has already booked afternoon tea for herself and her friend and I am sure the rating will go to 5. We went on Saturday so I would suggest booking.

The Woodland is close to Ellemere Port Hospital and serves for much of the day. Usual "Stonehouse" fayre. Very pleasant member of staff who checked for allergies and carried our drinks to our table as I am dodgy on my feet. We took advantage of the offer of two meals for £11.75 from a reduced menu. Pleasant food, but nothing special, except the price.

Birthday treat for afternoon tea. Put us in a room on our own so I asked to be moved to sit with everyone else dining...which they did. Sandwiches brought out on saucer sized plate then another plate with cakes and scones. I asked why not served on 3 tier cake stand as she gave some poor excuse as to cakes might melt so they don't use them hower other diners had them! They forgot to bring the strawberries and cream and champagne we ordered. Waitress was moody and unhelpful and we had to go into bar for a cocktail as they were now shutting!! Huge amount of money for poor food and service. Never been back!
