We have visited this cafe located at the mouth of the beautiful River Dart many times. It has always served up great drinks and food but after my last visit I felt compelled to write a review. Following a swim in the cove below we had the best ever bacon roll I have ever eaten. Tasty sweet bacon in a delicious warm crusty batch served up with a smile. Truly delicious!

Lovely food, but limited savoury options of steak pasties, sausage roll or vegetarian pasties. Our food was delicious, but honestly were disappointed at the limited choice. Tarts and traybakes again were delicious as was the selection of hot drinks, but not ideal as a lunch stop if expecting sandwiches/soups etc. The website doesn't offer any information regarding this and there was limited seating outside on the balcony. There may have been a different menu on offer if sitting here, but this area wasn't apparent until we had already purchased our food. There is also an ordering system of only one household in the cafe at any time - this is only apparent when you step inside and are told. I found the staff very busy and not particularly helpful. My rating is based on these factors. Despite how our food tasted and the beautiful location, I don't think we will return.

We shared an order of the savoury cream tea. I was expecting a Stilton and walnut scone but got a cheddar and seed scone. I was disappointed and took it back only to be told they didn’t have any Stilton and walnut. The scones are served in a disposable tray. I was surprised at this as most places have started using China again. We ate on their balcony and tried to put our rubbish in the council bins outside. They were overflowing. I think the cafe could at least provide a plastic sack to dispose of their own rubbish

We visited these tea rooms on Wednesday and went back on Thursday and Friday. Driving up to Dartmouth Castle presents it's own challenge to visitors who may be put off by the "limited parking" signs, but believe me it is well worth the effort. The sea views are second to none and they are matched by the quality of the food and drink that is available. Proper Devon Cream Teas were our first two experiences and fresh Crab Sandwiches our third. The manager and her team deal with busy periods really well and kept us all Covid safe.

After a somewhat hectic morning and visit around the castle, a sit outside the coffee shop overlooking the beautiful Dart river, with an excellebnt coffee, was a great way to relax. Disappointed this place has decided to stay as a takeaway during the pandemic, however, I understand as they are very small. Our trip was still worth it though, the views were made better by a delicious takeaway coffee and they had a large range of flapjacks to go with it. we have the snickerjack, a flapjack with salted caramel, peanuts and dark chocolate, it hit the spot and gave us energy for the walk back to town. I would recommend and will be back when this place is fully open again.

I came here with my partner hoping it would be open. sadly it's only doing takeaway snacks and small things due to covid. We were just happy to still be able to get a coffee after the walk out there! my partner had the snickerjack which he raved about. I settled for a latte, which was really good. Apparently, they use a devon based company, which is nice to see.The only problem that annoyed me was the other customers, they clearly weren't reading the health and safety boards put up and were then rude to staff. one lady sarcastically said "good luck" to the people in front of us as she left when clearly she hadn't followed any instructions given her, it was uncomfortable to watch and reminded me why I dont work in retail anymore.

While we were in Dartmouth and the weather wasnt raining for once we had a walk out to castle cove. The beach has some steep steps to get down to it but a nice little platform to stand on. We decided to grab some lunch however the tea rooms didn't have much choice on, apparently some staff are sick! The soup we settled on was a wholesome roasted red pepper and lentil soup but the best bit by far was the fruit scones that came with the cream tea! Lots of cream, with the offer of more if we needed it, plus we could wrap up any we didnt eat and take home!

Took the little boat from the town to the castle, which is brilliant but cash only. Once we got to the castle, we had a little walk around and decided to stop for some lunch at the little tea rooms. The Cafe is very small and the menu shows it, however, it had something for everyone. The kids had the kids frittata and I had the Vegan Spiced veg and peanut tart. But the best part was definitely the coffee, with both soya and oat options and nice and strong.

A quick walk to the castle was made more interesting* than it needed to be by a very unusual method of payment for ice-cream. Apparently in order to avoid the ice-cream dude handling cash you have to buy tokens inside the cafe that must be redeemed outside for ice-cream. So as a punter you effectively end up queueing twice; once for the tokens and a second time for the ice cream. This second transaction took place with tokens that seemed to have more ice-cream on them than the tub of actual ice-cream. In summary, grubby tokens don't have fewer germs than cash. There is literally nothing to be gained from a hygiene point of view if you're going to insist on making customers use foetid, manky tokens. Next time I'm taking a flask.

Four of us visited Dartmouth Castle on 2nd July and before we went round the castle we thought we'd stop for a bite to eat. It was about 12.30. On entering the tea room there was a notice apologising for there being no hot food as the kitchen was out of order. Fair enough but of the only 2 items on the menu that we could have, the scones, jam and cream were sold out so we had to have a savoury tea which consisted of two cheese scones, butter, a bowl of chutney and a pot of tea. The scones were very nice but £6 for this, I felt, was grossly overpriced. I have been to other establishments where, for the same price or less, I have had cheese, coleslaw, maybe a few salad leaves as well. I find the idea of spreading chutney on a scone with no cheese a very strange concept. We were also given a dirty plate. We were very disappointed and wouldn't visit again.

This place is situated in the most stunning spot in Dartmouth- with a fantastic location, views to die for and zero competition but that unfortunately is where the positives end. Visited on a Saturday in season, thinking there would be lots of tasty treats on the menu- nope- just bacon baps, scrambled egg, cheese and pesto panini and veg tart - and other than a few cakes and cream teas that was it! Shocking- no sandwiches/ no choices and nothing for children. Such a shame as this place has sooo much potential and I know when We first started coming here 10 years ago- the menu was packed with baguettes, sandwiches, jackets etc and the place was heaving but today there was barely anyone there! I would love to know what sort of place the management want this to be? But in a major tourist trap with 1000 of visitors every year they really need to up their game to get people queuing at the door like they used to.

Found this coffee shop whilst walking our dog on our recent break to Dartmouth. It was so good we came every morning. Even though it was the end of March/beginning of April we sat outside. If you go around the side of the building that overlooks the castle you are shielded from the wind, the sun warms your face and the views take your breath away. We were even lucky to spot some seals playing in the water. The icing on the cake, no pun intended, was the best latte (hubby’s words) in Dartmouth. Both the coffee and hot chocolate were hot and brought to us by the lovely lady working in the cafe. I would definitely recommend a visit.

The food however did look amazing, we saw some delicious looking packed ham sandwiches and a bacon roll that were packed out ( too right and all for the price) so when we saw “Proper Cornish” steak pasty on the menu we both ordered one even though they were the better part of £7 a head. We also decided to share a cream tea because we thought these pasties were going to be something else. Oddly the cream tea came out first so using our napkins we covered over the cream and jam to stop them getting too warm which was just as well as it took 40 minutes to get served what looked like two small shop bought pasties with a load of leaves and a smattering of crisps to jazz up and cover empty parts of the plate. I was not amused but still thought the pasty is bound to be very nice..... it was not a steak pasty, it was a potato and flour pasty with about 2 flakes of carrot and a nod at what should of been steak very lightly sprinkled throughout. We have has a higher meat content in a certain value supermarket version, oh and the handle was dry and hard. So we paid £14 for two joke pasties that were an insult to the words Proper, Steak, and Cornish. I had higher hopes for the scones. In fairness the two scones were nice but despite our attempts to protect the cream it was warm which just tasted a tad weird, the jam was a good quality conserve. We both wished we had opted for a sandwich and felt ripped off for what we had. We also felt that staff should have used a bit of common sense and brought out the scones and cream either with the pasties or after, instead in the 40 minute waiting time they kept trying to clear away our uneaten cream tea as we repeatedly explained no we are waiting for our pasties first. We did notice they did this in other tables so when a group ordered separate items they all ate at separate times with those having hot food being served last whilst those that had eaten looked on. Whilst the staff were friendly and polite they seemed a bit what-less and were very slow. It is the only cafe there so I would recommend eating before you arrive or if you get caught out order something that does not require cooking or heating through or you risk becoming part of the castles relics!

I was really looking forward to enjoying a cream tea by the sea with the views of the castle, however unfortunately I left feeling slightly deflated.

It is just a kiosk with very limited inside seating - mainly outside seating. It doesn't sell Ice Cream - due to vandalism apparently? It just seels hot drinks and basics. Staff were friendly enough.

Nice place to stop on a visit to the Castle. Sit on a sunny day and see the harbour entrance Go into Dartmouth town centre on the small ferry and just enjoy the day without the hassle of parking restrictions

The walk from Dartmouth Quayside to the castle tearoom is well worth the effort. The views of the estuary and opposing river bank across to Kingswear is stunning. The afternoon tea unfortunately did not live up to the same level, whilst the pot of tea was refreshing, the jam and cream very tasteful, the scones (2 per person) were a little dry.

Lovely location and the changes since last visit have certainly improved service and atmosphere, improvement in menu , but still great for cream tea overlooking the mouth of the dart.

Having walked along g the coastal path from Little Dartmouth, it was lovely to sit-down and have a cream tea. Lovely pot often too. Nice to sit and watch the boats in and out of the estuary. Very relaxing.

Lovely little cafe, not much seating inside but plenty outside, so aim for a nice day to visit! Enjoyed a Pot of tea for one and an apricot flapjack, which came to £4.45 which is good for Dartmouth! The cakes all looked amazing and the apricot flapjack was delicious, I will be heading back to try their toffee and apple flapjack next time!

We were looking for some light refreshment after walking out from Dartmouth Town Centre along the coast road that leads to the Castle and the Church at the mouth of the River Dart. It is a pleasant walk although it has its ups and downs and takes about 20 minutes at a reasonable pace. The Café is always busy as it is a nice location and obvious way to pass the time by walking there [although many still cannot be without their vehicles on a route that was not designed for them nor needs them squeezing along the narrow roadway] and it was no different on this visit. We shared two slices of cake between three with tea to wash it down and saw little change from £15. But by having it as a take away we could enjoy the views form the many benches located thereabouts and look across the river and out to sea. Public toilets with their normal opening times are located in a small block probably dating from the 1960s close by which is helpful and necessary after taking tea!

Came here one afternoon with my friends for a cream tea after reading all the good reviews and was not disappointed. Cream tea was lovely as we had some gorgeous views to accompany it. 10/10 would come again.

Great late lunch with family, biggest haddock I have ever seen. Had that locally caught ling, calamri and my wife just cheesy chips. All with crispy fresh batter, chips golden but soft inside. Even cheesy chips were top, 1/2 chips, then cheese, more chips and topping of more cheese. All top quality, even the ice cream and with nice pints of Otter, bitter & ale on tap. Great way to end off long walk on the beach. You won’t be disappointed..

I loved this pub. We walked from Salcombe and it was well worth it (don't worry, you can drive there too). It had the feel of a genuine pub with some good beers that happened to do great food also. I had possibly the best burger I have had in a long time and my wife had a fantastic steak sandwich. Both were freshly prepared scratch. They have vegan options too. I notice some negative reviews, mostly due to poor service. We arrived at 12 noon on a weekday in October. Even so, the place was full by the time we left, so it is clearly a popular place. The service we experienced was without fault. I hope our experience is the norm.

We stayed 3 nights, Fri Sat & Sun, very comfortable well furnished room, ensuite, with breakfast (diy) available in little kitchen down the hall. Wonderful old world inn, great bar, and bar food til 8.30 (lunchtime til 5 on Sunday, no evening meal). Very friendly and helpful staff, and wonderful location in the wilds of Dartmoor.

The restaurant was quite Busy, we were served the staff are lovely, table was clean food is good. This review has nothing to do with that. Getting to the Toilets as a disabled person in a wheelchair is an nightmare, the path is very steep going down then you have to try and open the door or wait for someone to help. Then it's getting in through the door while trying to keep it open if you don't have anyone around to help you . Then you come to the disabled toilet and you have the same problem getting in and out is hard. I have spoken to the manager on duty today and he said he will bring it up at the next meeting with his manager all I can say is I hope so, it's a lovely garden centre but if you are disabled I wouldn't recommend coming to this garden centre unless you can hold your Toiletting needs for the Duration of your visit. The manager has said he's had people complain about the path a lot, but not getting into and out of the toilets, I myself am guiltily of not saying anything before because I'm embarrassed, but today I decided to say something and I'm glad I did. The staff are all lovely nothing is to much trouble, if you are able body it's a fantastic place to visit, and I will miss going. But going down that path today was quite frightening and before anyone Says anything my chair was on the Slowest speed any slower. And I wouldn't have been able to move but I was frightened and thinking. And I was gonna hit the back wall. I really hope this review helps people and the managers Does something .
