Darfoulds Nursery Coffee Shop in Bassetlaw

I only gave this a 5 star rating because I couldn’t give it anymore. For the type of cuisine they serve, the food is excellent, the service is efficient, but what made the real difference for me was the genuine friendliness and helpfulness of all the staff that attended to us. Sometimes when you leave a tip it is because that is the expectation, but on this occasion it was in genuine appreciation of the level of service we received. It put the icing on a really enjoyable lunch. Thank you to all.

Good food, the staff are exceptional, we were looked after by Sue and Emma, nothing was too much trouble. My wife is a regular and on this visit I can see why.

Lovely cafe in the garden centre. The food is delicious and there is a good selection from the menu and the specials board. Some great vegetarian options. Cakes to die for. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.

First time reviewing but not the first time I’ve eaten here. I mostly ‘fly solo’ & there’s always a welcome from the friendly & efficient staff who meet you with a smile - today it was Jane @ Emma. Nothing is too much trouble & the food is homemade & glorious - the beef stew was particularly yummy today. There’s never enough room for dessert but always ready with a take-home request & the beauty is it’s only 20 minutes from home so a go-to if I don’t feel like cooking & you can always browse the plant nursery. Lovely cafe with excellent staff. I would give five stars but I am disabled and there is no disabled toilet. The toilets are outside via a covered walkway, which is fine but they are housed in a cabin with a high step up, I use a push along walker so the step up is a big problem

Fabulous Greek night out, loads of atmosphere, very attentive staff and to cap it all the food was exceptional. Roll on the with the next function please.

Ordered 2 latte (£6-90) when they came we had only got half a cup each ? Took them back and asked to fill them up. He then proceeded to pour cold milk into them NOT FULL CREAM MILK? Which made them cold 🥶 would not recommend it

I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at the cafe today - the Moroccan lamb tagine was generous in portion size & tasted delicious - and the staff made us very welcome. Hope to visit again very soon

We travelled a distance as this cafe was recommended to us and it certainly didn’t disappoint. The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Food was amazing. We will definitely make another trip here

Another wonderful lunchtime meal after a grim medical appt. Tried another new delight. Chicken with maple syrup on a warm flatbread. It was out of this world. Partner had steak and mushroom pie and it was deliciously crammed.

Absolutely gorgeous food. Only go if you can eat big or prepared to share haha. Also the cake range is amazing. Love that they allow dogs in to and excellent with my diabetic alert dog. X

6 of us visited on Tuesday for a birthday lunch. We all enjoyed it very much. The atmosphere was good, food good value and staff were wonderful. We will be back.

Came with family for lunch .. we ended up having a Sunday dinner .. I had lamb shank .. others also had lamb shank and beef .. all meat cooked to perfection .. loads of vegetables, lovely roast potatoes and yorkshire pudding .. my son had sausage and chips ,peas (the chips are really good )…our gravy was amazing and so tasty too …best roast dinner I’ve had in ages .. far better than our local pubs … also had one of the amazing cakes to take away ..👌… ….. Toilets and baby change are abit strange though !…

The staff at this cafe are wonderful we went today 27 January 11am they were busy had a big group in but we were told they would get to us as soon as possible which they did the food was delicious well done mark !!! The scrambled egg and croissant with bacon made my mouth water so a very happy morning with lovely staff try it you will not be disappointed been going since it was a tiny cafe and now it’s grown into a must go place to eat well done you all Sandra Waterfield .

We attended the Greek Night event last night. No Moussaka. The food we found on a couple of the courses were stews which the meat tasted the same in each but the other courses were good. The pudding was lovely but needed ice cream, cream or a sauce. So dry. I preferred the Italian Night and look forward to its return.

Genuinely friendly people working here. The food is fresh and homemade. The hand cut chips are delicious and a refreshing change from packet biting chips you get elsewhere. The cake cabinet is always a delight and tempting us never fails. Can’t recommend it enough.

Darfoulds is pleasant choice for a spot of lunch. I love that my two small dogs (who, being dachshunds love to bark!) are welcome and while I usually choose to sit on the terrace, I know they are more than welcome inside. The food we had on Monday was marvellous. When taking my order the front end staff were lovely and the tweaks I asked for were no problem at all. The staff are smashing, especially the chefs Matt and Karen, chief cake creator Sharon and the sandwich/ panini constructor. The place is clean and tidy, stylish, bright and airy. Although, on very warm days the café does get hot, which is to be expected I suppose as it is a glasshouse. Already looking forward to our next trip to Darfoulds, keep up the good work everyone!

Had a wonderful Sunday lunch, staff were very welcoming and friendly and efficient. Every plate of food we saw coming out looked beautiful. My husband had the Sunday roast , the beef was so tender and falling apart and he said it was probably one of the best Sunday lunches he had had! I had the meatball panini and again it was freshly made and very tasty and well presented . Fabulous choice of food and cakes and desserts. We both had a dessert lemon Bakewell and lemon cheesecake and they were lovely. It’s a nice atmosphere and clean. It is very popular so wise to book ! Will happily go again … In fact I am going today with a friend it was that good !

We hadn't booked but decided to pop in for Sunday lunch. We ordered the roast beef dinner which came promptly and was a very substantial meal. The meat was slightly overdone which i like and came in thick slices, veg was well cooked with plenty of roast potatoes and parsnips, two stuffing balls and lashings of proper thick gravy. The best roast dinner i have devoured in years. We were lucky to bag the last unreserved table, but i strongly advise anyone who may wish to visit to book a table days in advance!

We love going to Darfoulds cafe as a family and normally the staff are very friendly. However, on this trip I took my dog with us, who normally likes to sit on a chair next to us, but I was told by Bev I wasn’t allowed to use one as they were very “busy” apparently. From what I could see there was plenty of chair’s available and even one was moved to accommodate a wheelchair, which I got up to use and was told I wasn’t allowed. Bev didn’t want to accommodate my dog or us as a family and I felt really awkward. My dad has dementia as well and I find it really challenging sometimes, Darfoulds is a safe place for us and I just felt put out and not welcome. We’ll be returning again, but on this occasion we were let down.

Me and my Wife come here all the time and absolutely love it. Staff are always pleasant and foods spot on. Would throughly recommend it to anyone for breakfast, lunch or even there Bistro evenings.

Greated by a lovely lady, very welcoming and bubbly. Had wanted to order omelettes as extensive choice on offer. No omelette today. Strange when on the menu. Had gluten free toast with poached eggs, we also had granary bread with poached eggs and a breakfast croissant. We waited over 40 minutes for it to arrive. The eggs came like rubber, it was the worst poached eggs and perhaps better suited to boiled eggs. The scrambled egg was of a similar consistency, rubberised and had taken on a funny colour as if been left to dry out under a hot lamp or grill. I was sick / vomiting 30 minutes after eating. I had specified I was gluten free but as I noticed on visiting the rest room the kitchen area was very small and cramped. In hindsight the proper health and safety regarding cross-contamination would be very difficult to maintain in busy periods. All though the staff seemed busy and stressed it was not particularly busy when we arrived with many empty tables. I would suggest altering the menu as it is obviously unattainable in such a small capacity kitchen. Other tables were also experiencing issues with ordering and also delays bringing food to the table and staggered food arrival. It such a shame as I'm sure it could be more efficiently organised.

As a group of about 6 or 8 we tend to divide our visits between here and the Harley cafe . We got to know some of the staff at both places and enjoy banter with both . We visited today as a group of 8 ,6 who intended to eat . We were served by a lady who was not familiar to us ,who was definitely in the wrong job . Not a smile ,how are you all or anything in fact she was down right curt . A couple of us actually worked in customer facing employment and said we wouldn't have dared to be like that . After original coffees we ordered lunch and then decided we would have another coffee but dreaded pressing the buzzer in case it was her serving us again , unfortunately it was and she was no better . I'm sure a smile wouldn't of hurt

An impromptu visit to Darfolds Nursery lead to a wonderful lunch. With…. Excellent cakes for tea as our takeout. Sharon the head cook makes some truly excellent options. We’re told to book a day ahead for the cream tea. That too looks delicious and we’ll be trying that sometime soon.

Having been to the cafe many times in the past, and the food has always been to a very high standard. Unfortunately today 04/05 was not one of those days. I wouldn't normally have complained but today I was left feeling as though my complaint was my own fault. I was there with someone from work and we both ordered a breakfast. When it arrived the toast was cold (it didn't even melt the butter when I put the small blocks between the slices) when the actual breakfast arrived, I had one bite of sausage and it was at best, only warm not hot. and that was both breakfasts. I pressed for attention and when the lady came I advised what our complaint was. The lady felt our food and agreed it wasn't very warm. A second lady was called over, and I explained again. The second lady took our food away and returned with it several minuets later explaining that our food had been warmed up for us. Obviously we refused this. This didn't go down well with the lady who was giving us our food. I explained, I don't want a microwaved breakfast, we were offered a fresh meal, but by that time we had lost our apatite. My reason for this review, isn't the fact our food was cold, its more about why would you think microwaving fresh food is acceptable and please don't leave returning customers feeling as though I was unreasonable. Normally your food is great, normally your service is great. Today you let yourselves down.

We used to call into Darfoulds on a regular basis but due to living quite far away and a change in circumstances we don’t have the opportunity to do so now. Decided it was time for another visit so we booked a table for Friday. The food was superb, lovely drinks and a great selection of cakes. Exceptional staff, welcoming and highly efficient. Can’t praise this coffee shop enough. Would recommend reserving a table before visiting. Hopefully will be visiting again in the near future

Drove a good half an hour to visit Darfoulds Garden Centre after checking the opening times online which suggest that the Garden Centre is open till later in the afternoon. Visited here yesterday family of 6. Three had breakfast and three had sandwiches. All our meals were presented well , quality food and were all delicious. Generous servings also! Definitely would recommend and visit again.

Looking for lunch on a long trip from South Coast to Scotland we turned off motorway and found Darfaulds. We wanted somewhere we could take our dog and they were very happy to oblige. We sat in the small outside seating area which was really nice on a warm day. The food was freshly prepared, good quality and quantity at a good price. They even had free dog treats! Recommended for a meal and the Nursery plants looked good too.

The Cafe is set at the back of a small garden centre in a nice setting with a lake & ducks. Whilst ever they have such a great selection of desserts I will continue to return!

Nice little cafe with a range of drinks available. Plenty of parking available. Bright room with craft work decor, all for sale. The only area for improvement would be the staff, nobody smiles, improve customer service and friendliness and this will be a 5 star cafe.

Been today and had the bacon chicken Brie toasty,absolutely gorgeous,we had a wait ordered 2 scampi and only one came out with my toasty,but nothing disastrous,but the meals very tasty,I had a few of my wife’s chips and scampi ,so only had half my toastier but I took it home for teatime and cold it tasted even better.i wish you could swap the salad and coleslaw for chips I may ask next time .but we’ll done today

Called in here for a meal after a trip to Chesterfield. Having ordered a lasagne and a ham salad, we were certainly impressed by the size of them when they were delivered to the table and have to admit we struggled to consume all of them !

Visited today with my sister and was blown away by the Blueberry Scone, it was fresh baked that morning and was still slightly warm.....it was absolutely delicious. We sat outside in the sunshine, it was lovely.

Following the recommendation of a friend regarding this Coffee Shop (the cakes are all home made got me interested) I arranged to meet a friend for our regular lunch date (i.e. eat and catch up). Let's start with the staff (friendly and very helpful) surroundings (nice and airy, magazines to read if you are on your own) tables to sit at both inside and outside, and lovely comfy sofas to lounge in. Finally the food WONDERFUL! I had Mushroom and Tarragon Soup with an egg mayo sandwich on brown bread, the soup was great and the sandwich was enormous, half would have done, this meant that I could only gaze at the amazing selection of cakes. Went back the next day with my husband, we sat outside and shared a ham sandwich with homemade coleslaw and a lovely side salad, also real hand carved ham) and a blueberry scone. Out of this world. Well worth a visit for the food alone, but we wandered through the shop and admired the healthy plants and various containers.

I visited here with a friend one Sunday afternoon. We were seated quickly and the service was wonderful. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly. The new cafe management seems to have given this place a boost. I had the ploughman's lunch which was from the specials board and a side of chips. A dish which could have fed two people. It was tasty, fresh and well-presented!

You will not be disappointed with a visit here. Pleasant staff, scrumptious scones, cakes etc, lovely coffee. Light lunches, breakfasts, or full meals. Plants always look well, pretty plant pots etc.

Went to the cafe and garden centre today with the family and a cheeky few hours away from the office. Ordered the steak salad (wow) and quiche and fries (double wow). All homemade, lovely staff and very fair pricing for the quality and location of the on site restaurant. Don't miss this place, garden focused or not its worth going. We have lunched here twice before. The first time I had a tuna melt panini which surprisingly had no cheese in it! The second time was better, but our lunch today was far from acceptable. We ordered two jacket potatoes which came out as two burnt offerings. From the colour of the potato it looked as though they were yesterday’s reheated. After we complained we were given two more potatoes which were just as bad. It was impossible to cut the skins which were leathery and black.The waitresses were reluctant to offer any recompense but the young man there after an argument only charged us for the tea we had had. However we won’t be returning.

This is a great to place to visit for just a snack or a main meal and if you can manage it the cakes are to die for. The food is excellent and the staff are very helpful and friendly. This is a friendly nurseries and the staff are always on hand to give advice.

This little restaurant/cafe has been our favourite stop off for quite a while now. The food served is delicious and the scones and cakes are lovely, with lots of different options to choose from. The staff are really friendly and if you need something that isn’t on the menu will go out of their way to make sure you get what you want. I can’t recommend this place highly enough.

Our first visit for Sunday lunch with my daughter. I had roast beef with all the trimmings which was good. My daughter opted for the pork which unfortunately was not so good. The pork looked like the end pieces of the joint and were quite hard and dry not good...so she didn't eat much of it. Don't do this!!! Don't serve meat that not only is inedible but didn't look good.!!!

A pretty little coffee shop tucked away in Darfoulds Garden Centre. Popped in for a quick lunch and were most impressed. Our waitress (Alice) couldn't do enough for us and we found the whole experience very enjoyable. We will certainly be paying another visit soon.
