Would have given 0 stars if an option. Went last night absolutely horrendous. Awful inside, terrible WC, like being in someone's lounge. Waited well over an hour for starter as apparently so busy which was untrue. Now called CoCo's, cute place in the lanes, very accomdating, with our dogs, we were wellcomed in. We ordered the catch of the day and seafood pasta. Food was not fresh, all frozen, rubber. The owner spun us a whole story, the bill came, completely over priced i never new until my husband had already been paid and been ripped off, nothing added up from menu or the receipt. Was like being ripped off in a foreign country. All makes sense why the owner has changed the name of her restaurantvafter 40 years and trying to rid herself of all these bad reviews. Con artists/who make sub standard food trying to pretend its something it most definitely aint! Keep walking! Paid 120 for a shared starter two mains and 4 peronis (priced 5 on the menu)

Lemon sole at an eye watering price before you add on any veg or potatoes. Bill that when checked just does not add up. Burnt once, whatever they change the name to.

Visiting Brighton with my Mum, say it was about 9:30pm and we had already eaten. We just wanted to sit somewhere nice and have a bottle of wine. Saw this lovely quaint little place down a tucked down a small lane and thought hey, why not? A young member of staff greeted us. We asked if it was ok to sit and have a drink, to which he replied with an albeit uneasy 'yes'. I then proceeded to order some bruchetta which was lovely, but the atmosphere was still frosty. By now an older gentleman was seeing to us and was hanging around, as if to hurry us up or something. We felt slightly uncomfortable. Eventually came out and told us we needed to order food. We explained we only wanted a drink and he said alright but was in no way happy, did not even crack a smile. He then began packing up around us whilst we were finishing our drinks, not ideal and made us feel as if we were being rushed. The bill came and we were charged a service charge on top of our bill which was not needed as the service was awful! Wouldn't come back here - unless they make a big change!

Fair to say its best avoided. A few steps further on and there is a cheaper breakfast in cleaner less greasy smelling environment. Avoid at all costs!!! Breakfast was very average. There was 10 in our party we all had breakfast which there was no choice as we was told we had to have 2 sausage 2 bacon 1 and a half fried eggs a desert spoon portion of beans tomato and a slice of toast which turned up cold! 1 breakfast was a veggie which they didn’t have an option for so they did us 2 fried eggs beans and toast. We had 16 teas between us which the second cup he brought tea bags up in a wine glass and boiling water in a kettle. We was charged £200 in total £3 a cup of tea £11.95 breakfast and 10% service charge. The worst most expensive breakfast I’ve ever had!!!

We have been royally ripped off in this quaint little restaurant. We felt that we were on the set of Faulty Towers. We were given tables in a room upstairs, we asked for breakfast and was told there was only one option. One of our party of 10 asked for a veggie breakfast and received 3 fried eggs a few beans and 1 slice of toast. We were told we would get tomatoes which were bought up on a separate plate, there were not enough for us all. The old waiter huffed and puffed and when we asked for more tea he came up with a boiling kettle and a wine glass of tea bags, no clean cups and we literally had to do it ourselves. The breakfasts were delivered over the course of 40 minutes so the tomatoes were also then stone cold. Only 1 slice of toast each, some had a packet of butter some didnt. It was so bad we couldn’t stop laughing until we received a £200 bill. So £20 each for make your own tea, 2 breakfast sausages, 2 fried eggs which were either rock hard or literally raw, 2slices of bacon half a cold tomato and a slice of toast. Absolutely disgusting. We were not shown a menu and did not receive an itemised bill. AVOID AT ALL COST. When we questioned it, he had the audacity to give us back a £5 note. Left a really bad taste and not a great start to the New Year

To start with the positives, the location was absolutely magical, the staff were so lovely and the restaurant itself had an old school vibe that was genuine, charming and so nostalgic that it became refreshing in it's own right. However it falls down on the food, which felt like it had a little bit of heart to it, intention wise at least, but the execution really was nothing short of disappointing (would like to add that we were only peckish, so between us we had the fish soup, garlic bread and calamari starters; perhaps the mains are better). The mussels in the soup were good and the tomato broth quite tasty, but I left everything else as it was so rubbery and chewy that it had no taste at all, and was quite simply inedible. The calamari were equally tough and unpleasant to eat, and even the garlic bread was only cooked on one side. Sorry but I've had better ones from a freezer. I don't know if it's a case of a chef who's lacking in support, or one who's been there for a while and has become disempassioned, or a new one who lacks experience, or someone who just needs a good old Gordon Ramsaying. I genuinely hope they figure things out either way, because if they do, with the positives this place has potential to be really wonderful once the food situation is sorted.

Went here at the end of a day trip to Brighton. Waiter was attentive but really needed to tone it down. Food was good, it was a bit pricey but still. Where this review falls down, however, is that their card machine "stopped working" and they wanted cash. I asked where the nearest cash point was then promptly went there (left family and stuff behind). One of their staff then decided to follow me to the cash machine, running when I sped up. I turned round and had to actually tell him I was going to get cash, I wasn't going to leave my family, and that he needed to stop following me. They also tried adding £20 to my bill "accidentally". I may be a tourist in Brighton, but I wasn't born yesterday, I know that 6 and 8 look different. If you feel you have to eat here, make sure you bring cash and that you check your bill very carefully.

Mixed seafood casserole was so full of flavour and a good amount of fresh seafood and well balanced flavours. I guess some people are too used to Wetherspoon type food. The Chef did a great job (certainly on our visit anyway ). Very little space around the restaurant. Curtains in place of doors is not a good look…the staff would creepily disappear and reappear from these curtains. An ominous hand would often make an appearance throughout the meal to take a sip of their bottle of Diet Coke that was left on the side. The tight, narrow and treacherous staircase to reach the toilet was not ideal and unsafe. Food was fine but absolutely overpriced. Check your bill as they seem to misconstrue the details of the bill and overall price, not breaking it down. I would recommend avoiding this restaurant as it simply just wasn’t up to scratch and did not reflect the premium price point.

Due to us sitting inside near the drink prep area we could hear everything. He could only described as Basil Fawlty, hilarious in places, annoying in others. Seemed to treat the younger waiters like Manuel. Was flapping and in a state of panic. The younger waiters clearly hadn't had any training. My mum asked for vinegar and the older waiter came out with it and barked for my mum hurry up and use it now as someone else wants the only vinegar bottle. Upon paying the same guy tried to not give me my 5er change back as he assumed it was a tip despite me not even saying so. Service charge was already included! Don’t visit if you have any allergies! In general, do not visit! We have had the most awful experience today at this restaurant! First it started when I informed the staff about my daughter’s dairy allergy, which is a common allergy nowadays. The way we were treated was awful. Basically we were told by 3 different people that our daughter could not eat anything in that restaurant as everything was contaminated with butter! Although we ordered her calamari and chips which she always has in every restaurant we go, in this case they could not even provide that! We did not argue as we just wanted to have our dinner and leave. But the worst part came with the main. Me and my husband order the whole lobster to share! Big mistake. The lobster was cut in two halves and it was covered in sauce and cheese, lots of cheese. It was mainly cheese and little pieces of lobster. My husband hardly found any lobster to eat. The oil used was so awful, it’s still repeating on our stomach! My sister order the seafood pasta which was not seasoned and not properly cooked. It had some tiny hard prawns and a couple of mussels. At the end of the dinner, the waiter came to collect our plates and asked how the lobster was. I started by saying that it had too much cheese and hardly any lobster, but instead he turned his back mumbling something and left. When he returned, we complained about our mains and again we didn’t get any answer from him. Instead, another lady comes with our bill, which was on a piece of handwritten and she starts arguing with us in the most unprofessional way in front of other customers, basically not caring about our opinion but saying that everything was fine and we should have complained when we got our food. The truth is that we were not going to complain but simply not return to that restaurant. The reason why we complained was the fact that we were not treated with respect. We felt that they didn’t really care about our experience and they were simply money grabbers. The whole experience from start to beginning was awful and this is actually the first time I write a bad review about a restaurant, as I would not like someone else to experience what we did. There are so many beautiful and much cheaper restaurants in Brighton and it is a shame for the area that restaurants like that exist.

A surreal breakfast experience overall. My friend and I were accosted and dragged in from the street by the proprietor, which was the first warning sign. The place looked traditional and old fashioned, but like they might know their way around s fry-up. When we sat down and took a look at the breakfast menu and the extortionate prices, my gut told me to stand up and leave, but we stayed the course all the same. The £11 full English was mediocre in places and terrible in others (i.e. the mushy sausages). The £2.50 tea really pushed me over the edge though, being served in one of those tall glasses that coffee shops used for lattes back in 2003... and it was weak and disgusting to boot. Truly a crime against tea. While we were sitting, 2 other groups came in, sat down, changed their minds and left. That was a first for me, but good for them. Beyond that the staff were apathetic, the only toilet was up 3 flights of steep stairs and had no functioning toilet seat or paper and the door was held open by a fire extinguisher. Insane - can't recommend.

Very simple style restaurant, cozy without so much decoration but a well set table, good and friendly attention and great food, we had the menu some calamari for starter and an Extremely delicious seafood soup. as a main course and fish Summary :: only the bones remained on the plate... (for information only) the bathroom is on the third floor 😅😅

went here for breakfast believing it looked nice and welcoming, however we were left disappointed and pretty angry when we left. the £11 breakfast was honestly vile, eggs tasted of month old oil, the "butcher sausages" were obviously straight from the freezer as was the bacon. owner of the restaurant was constantly watching over my shoulder as we ate and proceeded to over charge by about £5. the toilet was a full three flights of stairs up to the top of the building which was definitely a house. the looks are very deceiving I strongly recommend avoiding this so called restaurant a taking a more pleasing and money friendly visit to the local wetherspoons where you can receive the same quality food for a far better price and served by much less invasive people xoxo

I worked here years ago luckily for less than a month, the owner reeks of being abusive, insulting other staff to make herself seem cool. Also she was getting to jealously spy on neighboring Restaurant. Weird vibes and you really don't want to know how the food is made, but truly deserving of kitchen nightmares, Gordon should definitely check it out. Best description I've read is a bad faulty towers episode and I couldn't have put it better myself.

Darcy’s used to be my late grandparents they were the original owners. I spent time as a child laying tables and sitting on the back step in the kitchen watching my grandma cook. My sister and I have never visited it even though we are still in the area until recently we both went to look at it and was shown around by Jerry. I booked and last night we visited. Oh the memories!! We went with some friends and Jerry was wonderful and attentive. The food was good, my cod and chips was just like my grandma used to do in breadcrumbs delicious! The restaurant is old fashioned but that’s the charm so many are now so super cool it was actually really wonderful to step back in time and almost feel abroad in a little hidden treasure. We all said we will definitely come back with other groups of friends. I’m sorry I left it so long to visit maybe afraid of the memories but not anymore. Thank you again Jerry for making our evening so perfect.

Disappointed. Bread and butter was bread and margarine which owner insisted was butter. Fried calamari was nondescript. Haddock was good but the chips also nondescript. Sole was good and generous, bream OK. Salad bowl OK, but dressing was not good - not olive oil. Homemade tartar sauce was starchy-thick and tasteless. Mainly prices exorbitant at 38 GBP for the sole, 28 for the Bream. 16 for fish and chips OK.

The breakfast was not good. Sausages tasted awful and to top it off when we queried the bill there had been a service charge added without been made aware. The lady who was obviously in charge was openly rude to her staff which was hard to watch and about other customers. My advice is to avoid this place and go somewhere else! There are better and more polite places in the area. No stars!

Not good at all. Overcharged and food not good quality. Although D'arcys is in a prime spot on The Lanes, we felt we were dramatically overcharged for our lunch of: 2 x full English, 2 x coffees and 2 x aperol spritz, which came to a WHOPPING £58! That might have been ok, if the food was 5*, fresh and sprinkled with a bit of gold dust. But of course, the food was basic – white hovis bread, cheap sausages (probaby Walls or sainsbury’s basics), one or two limp and shrivelled mushrooms. Don't even ask about the coffee. To add insult to injury, the aperol spritz came from a ready-made bottle. No fresh prosecco was used in the making of this drink!! And for £12.50 each, we felt robbed in broad daylight. Avoid!

I loved the atmosphere of this fish restaurant in The Lanes. Sitting outside in the shade, I enjoyed the fish casserole which was beautifully fresh and tasty. My husband, not a lover of seafood, enjoyed chicken Milanese. We arrived early for lunch but by the time we left the outside seats were all occupied and it was filling up inside. The service was good and, with a glass or two of Pinot Grigio, we enjoyed a memorable meal.

AVOID AVOID AVOID! I did a trial shift at this 'restaurant' and witnessed the evidence of many of these reviews. Chef smoking right next to kitchen, all sorts of frozen meats thrown into a sink of water that overflowed into the dishwashing sink over 'clean' plates. All the food is frozen - including bread and butter pudding, meat etc. The microwave was amongst the most used appliances for cooking the 'fresh' food in the frankly filthy kitchen. The older staff are rude and unkind and horrible about customers, especially non-white customers. I could go on forever but after my 6 hour, no break shift spent entirely washing dishes by hand with no gloves and no sponge with just a rag and scolding water I returned home exhausted and in tears. Please don't go and support this restaurant.

This seafood restaurant is tucked away amoung the small streets of "The Lanes" in Brighton. It's not fancy, or modern which is not a prerequisite for me choosing a place to eat. What I do look for is excellent food and good service; this place had neither. We waited over an hour to be served or food and when it finally arrived, it was so disappointing. The food lacked freshness and that flavour of the sea we were hoping for. Wait staff were polite and friendly, but it wasn't enough for me to give a better review.

Traditional Fish & Chips by the Sea. Simply Best chip shop chips I've tasted in a long time took me back to being a kid. There is a queue most of the day but this moves super quick and is just showing how good the food is worth a couple minutes wait. Home made curry sauce
