The Copper Clam in Brighton and Hove

What a lovely restaurant to come to to enjoy the freshest fish just meters away from the actual sea. The atmosphere is really relaxed despite the refined menu, and all the staff are clued up and on the ball. They are also really good looking. We had…. Kimchi steak tartare tartlet, monkfish with spicy mango sorbet and chickpeas, gorgeous mussels in a creamy herby soup, prawns, and of course , oysters in a few different styles. Highlights were the monkfish, and the rhubarb oysters. The drinks selection is great- I am sober and didn’t feel like I was missing out at all as the bartender was happy to make a 0% cocktail for me. It was a grey day when i came here and I still had a lovely time, I can’t wait to come back when it’s sunny.

Wonderful window seat overlooking the beach. The oysters are incredible... be prepared for something different.. Baked with delicious fillings, I could have just eaten those all evening. Cataplana is VERY good value.

Sensational seafood in the best location on Brighton seafront. This is hands-down the best seafood we’ve had in Brighton. Every dish was a celebration of fresh, perfectly cooked ingredients — the grilled scallops were melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The kitchen should be proud of what they’re producing here. Service was equally impressive. The maître d’ with curly hair had a warm presence and an affable manner; he struck the perfect balance of attentive, but not overbearing. We felt genuinely welcomed from the moment we arrived. We’ll definitely be back — and soon.

We had an exceptional meal at The Copper Clam – easily one of the best dining experiences in Brighton. From start to finish, everything was flawless. We began with oysters and scallops, both of which were sublime – fresh, perfectly prepared, and bursting with flavour. The loaded crab fries were a real highlight too: indulgent, generous, and packed with delicious crab meat. We paired our meal with a Provence rosé, which was light, refreshing, and dangerously easy to drink – we could have happily had several bottles! For our main, we shared the seafood platter for one, which was absolutely excellent – a great variety, beautifully presented, and clearly very high quality. To finish, we shared an affogato espresso martini hybrid that was as indulgent as it was innovative – a perfect end to the meal. The service throughout was warm, attentive, and professional. Prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food and the setting. Highly recommend to anyone looking for top-tier seafood in Brighton. We’ll definitely be back!

Had a really lovely lunch here on bank holiday Sunday. A lovely table inside overlooking the sea. Fantastic service throughout, great recommendation of local wine (the Bolney Estate Bacchus) and the seafood was exceptional. Would 100% recommend and will be back! Me and my friends went to dine out there after movie. Before we went there we saw lot of great reviews about how the food taste and all,so thought gave a try. So we planned to dine in and if the house is full lets have some drinks and go.But as soon as we reached the entrance a server stood in front of the door blocking to get in and didn't bother to ask or greet. So we took the courtesy as asked if there is any table for 3 as we can see the tables are mostly empty. But all he said is they are closed ,when there are people dining inside and waiting to order and looking through the menu. We looked each other like there were so boards of reservation on the table or anything all he said again was "if you want they are open tomorrow @12". We left the place and was wondering how can a restaurant close at 7.30 pm when they are clearing customers inside and their website shows they will be open till 22pm. Let it be anything like they forgot to update their new closing time or they missed the reservation sign or may be full or the finished with the dishes or else. But show atleast know how to treat the customers. So they don't feel biased and they definitely need to improve their communication and don't let the customers assume the reason why they are closing so soon or so whatnot.

Great location if you like seafood you will love this

Friend booked this and we were a little concerned given the recent reviews. The concerns rose when we arrived and were the only table there at 7 on a Friday night. However the food was excellent, generous portions and good value - we mostly shared small plates of moules marineres, tuna arancini and cajun monkfish. Service also great and a lovely setting on the terrace at the beachfront watching the sunset.

Service was abysmal, Curly haired waiter ignored and got wrong almost everything while vaping and being rude.

Nice food but over priced! The place was really empty so no atmosphere? Had the seafood platter for 2 and champagne!

Lovely food but portions were not very big unfortunately. Good service too and friendly staff however what wasn't enjoyable was the unexpected Hell's Kitchen experience and hearing the chef screaming the C word at other staff members, not very professional. Will not be returning, there are plenty other great restaurants to choose from in Brighton

We stopped here for a spot of lunch during the weekend away and it was lovely position, right on the seafront. We had the mixed platter for one the portions were very large. It was very filling and very tasty.

Good restaurant on the seafront with seafood specialties and delicious twists!

Lovely afternoon, scrumptious seafood and great service.

Food was tasty, full of flavour and creative combinations so a big thank you to the chefs. Monkfish was a highlight. Very small portions. However, the service was absolutely shocking. We were sat there for 3 hours and were never offered a second drink, our food was never cleared and it took 25 minutes to initially order. Two of the drinks we ordered were not available but we were not made aware of this before ordering. We asked for the dessert menu which never appeared, nor did the bottle of water we ordered with drinks. I would understand if it was busy and they were short staffed, but there were plenty of staff loitering behind the bar. In fact, some of the staff were even stood there vaping whilst on their phones! Other tables were getting out of their seats to go and ask for things (through clouds of vape smoke). There were teenagers from the beach asking to use the toilet every 5 minutes, I’m surprised they didn’t have a sign or someone specifically on front of house to monitor the outside tables. Safe to say the 12.5% service charge was quickly removed when paying and we won’t be returning. Avoid if you’re hungry.

We had lunch here recently and it was the best food we have tasted. We had 4 small plates and half a lobster thermidor. Superb!

I’m honestly so gutted that I chose this place for dinner tonight. I was really looking forward to bringing my mum here for Mother’s Day, and we were having a lovely time… until the bill arrived. £24 for two Virgin Marys – £24 for some tomato juice and a bit of seasoning. I disputed the bill, and the manager, who had been serving us, was tapping away at the till, clearly annoyed by the dispute. He then sent another waitress over with a revised bill offering a £6 discount. So, the final price for the tomato juice came to £18. Ridiculous! When you don’t drink alcohol, you’re basically getting ripped off, and it’s just not on. The moules marinière was completely tasteless – it was just water and cream. There was no flavour from the wine or onion, and it wasn’t seasoned at all. I’ve had better at Café Rouge. The chefs were loud and obnoxious, swearing and acting arrogantly. If the food had been remotely memorable, I could have overlooked that, but this place just oozes overpriced arrogance. We were finishing up our meal and had just had our plates cleared when the manager came over to inform us that our table was needed in 30 minutes. The restaurant was completely empty at the time, and we had just handed back the menus after reading the frankly embarrassing dessert options. White chocolate and mint with mint gel? Bleugh. I did point out to the manager (after he annoyed me about the table request in an empty restaurant) that three tables in our section had asked for the dessert menu, and none of them ordered. They all left. He seemed grateful for the feedback – and that’s probably why he then charged me £24 for some tomato juice. Save your money. There are much better, less pretentious, and less arrogant places to eat. I won’t be returning to this empty restaurant, and to be honest, I’m annoyed I didn’t remove the service charge (12.5% by the way!). However, the lovely waitress was very kind, and I didn’t want the poor behaviour of the men running the venue to affect her tips. Bill came to £120 for 4 oysters, 2 mains and 2 drinks. Awful.

incredible. we had a fantastic night here, a cold wet sunday night is never going to produce an electric atmosphere however the staff were attentive, (josh and adrian) chatty, and fun. we were genuinely spoilt here, drinks were great, and the food…. the food, we didnt expect such portions, sure seafood is never cheap but this place pulled out the stops, crab, scallops, mussles, oysters, crab loaded fries, cataplan? everything we tried was top quality, and im glad to say no langoustines.. (far too much effort to eat) the two chefs really did the business here and we are certainly going back, see my reviews, we try to eat well and review honestly, this is not a place to miss.

El servicio era ser honesto un poco golpe y fallar en ocasiones, pero no resta calidad a la comida que se ofrece.

Very beautiful outlook to the beach. I do know it is a seafood place, I just wish there were a touch ... like maybe 1 or 2 ... non seafood dishes. Especially ones that are cheaper like maybe chicken based? It was very hard to navigate the menu. My friend eats seafood but I do not. I do recommend the pork belly, that was good. As was the strawberry cheesecake. I just found it difficult to find things I could eat and would eat on the menu. I do understand it is a seafood place but typically they also have cheaper non seafood options. Like salads without seafood, or grilled chicken, something like that.

Lots of fishy food going on but not one thing out of place on any of the dishes For the mains we had a mix of steak and seafood platters Ive been to alot of steak restaurants but this was definitely the best steak ive eaten in years only rivaled by a certan not to be named London restaurant Sorry going on but everyone should try this place out

Dined on Saturday 16th November, definitely one to try, the staff are young but know service, very relaxed environment, welcoming and as it should be the food was exquisite. Some people may find it a little expensive but for the quality of the food I would say the price is absolutely fair!

Had a lovely time there. It wasn't really crowded, which led to a rather relaxing atmosphere. The food was delicious, and the service was simply amazing. The waitresses we had were extremely friendly and humourous. We shared a few good laughs together, which made us feel really welcome there. Absolutely recommended to visit.

Excellent seafood restaurant on the Brighton seafront. Great service and ability to adapt the menu to suit needs, as swapped out lobster for crab on the platter for one. Well worth a visit.

The Copper Clam in Brighton and Hove is an exceptional dining spot. The ambiance is charming with tasteful décor and a beautiful sea view that adds to the overall experience. The food was exquisite. The tempura oysters and the homemade bread or brioche were to die for – absolutely delicious and perfectly prepared. Paired with fine champagne, the meal was elevated to a whole new level of enjoyment. I am not the one who likes to complain, because I know how it feels to work in a busy environment and what it’s like to serve as i too work in hospitality. But unfortunately, the manager of this place was not managing at all. I ordered 2 glasses of rose, and the new team member spilt the wine all over my sister. He was so kind and apologised. Then we order a little seafood platter for one. It took 25 minutes. With everyone already eating and only half of the place full, most of the customers finished with their meals, our one starter still took some time. The oysters were served on salt and not on ice, hence why, it was warm and probably did not taste as good, leaving you with a fishy and metallic bitter after taste, instead of it tasting “fresh” I place a complain, and the team member keeps coming back and forth, communicating with the “manager” took my plate to the kitchen, then she puts it back on my table saying “I’m sorry I spoke to my manager, we can’t comp it, because everything fits the description on our menu and it is fresh. I understand and I was happy to pay for the full bill even though I only ate the prawns and diced whelks. I’m disappointed in the management for not coming up when in need and who can’t apologise or try to make the situation better by giving an alternative dish to replace even just the oysters or show her presence when wine was spilt. Customers are still always right and if they are not happy with the dish you cannot force this upon them. It could have been great but not handled professionally. Overpriced. I live in London, and it’s cheaper here! £38 for this. 3 little prawns, 3 diced whelks cured in citron, it just took out the flavour of the whelks, then you dice it! No sauces or condiments given. Team members lovely. But as I say, when we left, the manager (blonde lady in black) didn’t even say goodbye. Very poor.

The copper clam on the beach scored a straight three stars for food, service and atmosphere. Service was slow and they forgot our drinks order until promoted. Unfortunately our starters arrived at the table before our drinks! They also don't do a large glass of wine, only 175ml small or a bottle. Food was good but not perfect. Mussels were gritty and still had barnacles on them, showing the kitchen had not been bothered to clean them. Lobster roll was over powered by a Herby bread that was so strong in herbs, the lobster was sadly lost! Copper Clam is nice enough, but attention to detail is needed. Some of the umbrellas and signage were looking old and grubby, as were the copper painted pipes in the toilets that were covered in blue grime. Overall however the staff were friendly and the seafood dominated menu sounded enticing. Not sure it's much of a competition for Riddlers and Finn (the current best seafood restaurant in Brighton), but it's certainly a good effort. They just need to pay attention to detail!

Food is ok, but is extremely overpriced! My wife, 3 kids sat for lunch and it cost over £460! Ridiculous Service is quite slow too, overall it’s a nice place to eat, good location but could be so much better!

Another one of brightons little gems. Visited here on a friends recommendation it's a very quaint restaurant smaller than I expected and a little tucked away. Are we glad we Visited we sure are. Very friendly staff with knowledge of all the dishes on offer the cocktails were very nice oysters were also very fresh as you'd expect being at the seaside. Steak was cooked very nicely as was the lobster and accompanying side orders. A very clean and tidy restaurant inside and out we got talking to the lady owner forget her name who made us feel very welcome. I really don't know how she deals with the fact they get people from the beach asking to use the toilet literally every two minutes would drive me literally insane. This place is definitely worth the visit if your down in Brighton. They had two parties upstairs of 15 so service was slightly slower than usual but staff did there best to not keep us waiting too long. Recommended 💯

My friend had never had seafood in the UK before so I brought him and we got a selection of starters (and our first ever oysters) and chips to share. Each dish was fantastic, came very quickly, and the staff were so lovely and friendly :) will definitely be coming back

Guy waiter was a bit of a racist. Cappuccino was as cold as the waitress who served it. Not a friendly restaurant for tourists, in my honest opinion.

We loved our meal at copper clam , we had the seafood platter which was any seafood lovers fantasy. A fine selection from lobster , oysters, to welks and langoustines. The mussels and clams were my favourite, the white wine sauce was perfection. Lovely staff and formidable owners. Thank you for our amazing meal.

We sat there because there were a few free tables. I didn’t mind the prices but of course expecting a higher quality meal compared to other nearby places. But unfortunately ate the most bland sea food ever. Fish of the day and even the lobster were tasteless. Service was slow. Paying £100 for that meal was absurd.

I have always had a wonderful time there before and wonderful food. This time I ordered half a grilled lobster with salad. It was the size of a large prawn and the salad was like a garnish. My friend had sea bass and chips. The smallest fish I have ever seen £35. He would have been better getting fish and chipsTwo glasses of wine and a glass of champagne (£20). Total bill: £126. (Excluding glass of champagne.) Waste of money. Only stayed an hour. Waste of money. Never again.

Great spot. Definitely gone down hill. The fish tasted fishy, super expensive and when I mentioned that the fish tasted funny they were really unbothered. We paid the bill and left having left most of the meal. No apology no interest what so ever. I felt sick for two days after. Avoid!

What a wonderful little gem on the seafront. The upstairs gets very warm in the summer days, but in the evening the breeze flows from those big windows and you can gaze at the sea, in this beautiful cozy little place. It's not big, even with all the tables outside, so would definitely recommend booking ahead. Easily rivals it's more famous seafood rival Riddle and Finn in quality, though menu isn't as extensive, but price is more affordable. This is still pretty pricey though, but the food is so good you wont notice. The staff were friendly and we didn't even notice we were the last ones to leave as they were attentive and kept offering us more dessert and drinks. Genuinely lovely evening for a date with friends or loved ones. I even saw children earlier in the evening, so they are clearly also welcoming to families! Have nothing bad to say.

Had a really lovely meal at the Copper Clam - only gave the service 3* as they totally forgot to bring our order after taking it. However, they were very apologetic and offered free bread and another round of drinks on the house. When the food all came it was delicious, but they had forgotten again to bring my partners mussels! I think they need a little training in FOH, as the food is delicious, but the service is a little below par. It didn't look like they were short staffed. Would return again though, just for the food!

We were part of an event, we loved the venue, the food and drinks were amazing and above all service was impeccable. Nat was wonderful, very attentive! The rest of the team were great. We would definitely come back again!

I have been coming to this spot whenever I visit Brighton for years and again was blown away by the delicious food and impeccable service. The restaurant's menu offered a wide variety of options. The Moules mariniere were so fresh and perfectly cooked and so flavourful. The steak we ordered were perfectly seared and seasoned. But what truly elevated my dining experience was the excellent service provided by an attentive, friendly waiter named Nat who went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was exceptional. Overall, I can't recommend this restaurant enough. The food was top-notch, the service was outstanding, and I am grateful for such a wonderful dining experience. Thank you to the amazing wait staff for making our meal truly wonderful.

Everything was perfect for my daughter's wedding meal. I had prawns, steak and a cheeseboard. It was all delicious. The view is lovely and the staff are friendly and professional. I would recommend a visit, especially if you want to treat yourself and your guests.

First time here … lunch with a friend we Shared a dozen of Oyster. Moules Mariniere in wine sauce, leeks, garlic and cream was simply delicious Crab Fries With Chilli, Spring Onion & Parmesan was mouthwatering.

What a little gem the copper clam is. Food is fantastic and the staff were awesome and attentive. Fresh seafood platter my husband said its just lovely. In fact he didn't speak much as he was so ingrossed in eating it. Definitely will be returning on our next trip to Brighton.

Overall a magnificent evening. Brilliant food, superb staff and of course, great location. We were unfortunate enough to have a table of ten hens next to us which slowed our service down, but it all went well otherwise.

Was lucky enough to walk in and get a seat outside. The staff was amazing and very helpful. Definitely try the crab fries! Also, ask for a smoked old fashion….not on the menu, but the bar tender knocked it out of the park! Can’t wait to come back!

Hey, so the food was great, but the service was terrible! We had a reservation for our anniversary dinner and they sat us at a table inside. At first, we were the only customers there, so we got a lot of attention. But it wasn't really that great. The first thing that happened was that they brought us a dirty wine glass with lipstick marks all over it. The waiter didn't even notice and we had to point it out to him. The server provided us with the cutlery for the main course. While placing the knife on the table, he noticed that it was soiled. Instead of removing it, he merely turned it over. When we had completed our meal, the restaurant was nearly at full capacity. We were still enjoying our wine and inquired with the server if it would be possible to relocate to an outdoor table to finish our drinks. He went to investigate but returned with the news that it would not be feasible. They were rushing us to leave. The moment we stood up, the waiter jumped to the table and moved it to another one to make it ready for the next guests. Before leaving, we asked again about a table outside to have some drinks, and we were surprised to see three empty tables that we could choose from. From there, we were taken care of by another guy who was very attentive and polite. We had a great time and the food was delicious, but the service during dinner was not up to par (and it wasn't cheap either). 😒 #NotReturning

We went for my Mum's 70th birthday and had a wonderful meal on the beach. Loads of drinks, loads of food (particularly oysters which were delicious and which we had loads of!). They were super accommodating, all our requests were dealt with and we didn't have to wait long for anything even though there were 20 of us. Would definitely come again. Big shout out to the waiting staff who were exceptionally patient!

We had the pleasure of lunching at the copper clam today The server we had was absolutely brilliant (young brunette guy with curly hair). He was so so helpful, friendly & warm! It was a refreshing change from the mid customer service we’ve had in other high end restaurants recently! We ordered the small plates (scallops, short rib, prawns, lobster linguini & olives) which were all INCREDIBLE! Presented so beautifully & so delicious.

Ongelooflijk lekker eten! Niet goedkoop, maar zeker niet te duur voor de kwaliteit die je hier krijgt. Zeer uitgebreide keuze en méér dan voldoende porties. Bovendien een leuk decor vlakbij de zee en zeer vriendelijke bediening. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

I'd have to rate this place a 9/10, hence why I can't give it 5 stars. The food was outstanding, could not pick fault with it. The crab platter and the starters of mackerel and lobster ravioli and bisque were incredible! Service was very prompt and not overbearing. I did feel that the wine prices and £11.50 for a miniscule cocktail, which did taste nice, were too much. That's the only thing that denies this place the 10/10 given we spent nearly £100 per head.

Excellent meal, really fresh fish, beautifully prepared and cooked. Thoroughly enjoyed the Cataplana seafood stew and the bone marrow oysters are delectable! Literally just got back from Paris and was as good as any meal I ate there.

Never seen so small lobster! My fishmonger has prawns bigger than that. It was very disappointing visit. The restaurant has lost it standards long time ago. Ordered cote d’Provance rose and it was dark pink orange colour which I’ve never experienced before. It should be blush, light and crisp. The taste was really bad. Then ordered another French rose, and it was the same colour. And tasted very similar, not light and crisp with citrus notes like it said on menu. The tap water was while too, they definitely need to get better filters for it. The shallot vinaigrette for oysters was old, the shallots was falling apart in a bottle with sediment, not sure why they can’t make fresh one for each day? And in final the 1/2 lobster Thermidor was small and for £40. Made me cry. After paying over £200 for disappointing meal, I won’t be coming back. They also sit you outside at the wobbly tables and dirty chairs.

The best seafood I’ve had in years, the scallops sauce was beautiful as was the seafood platter to share. The staff are so friendly as was the owner. We can’t recommend this place highly enough, will always make a point of visiting whenever we are in Brighton 😀

Travelled from Northamptonshire for a concert. Came here for my birthday with my partner. Service was great, food was amazing. Would definitely come again!!

It’s a disgusting dirty restaurant the lady Kay who owns it is so rude I would highly recommend do not go the food is over priced toot the waiters are rude and pig ignorant with dirty uniforms the steaks we had were disgusting and they didn’t even ask us if we had any allergies the seafood is poor stay away from the copper clam

By good fortune, our group selected a number of appetizers to share and so were able to enjoy the varied flavours and tasteful presentation of a number of different dishes. Each one was excellent. Certainly a great place to come for well-prepared seafood.

Ordered half lobster and was not worth it at all. Overpriced for they have to offer. Same goes for the halibut fish. Entrée portions for the price of main course.
