The best cod and chips I've ever had. Very fresh, clean, and oh-so tasty! Fabulous fish and chips 😋 Worth every penny, and for us, it saved a long wait time in some of the busier restaurants nearby. Thank you!

Lovely chips I had last week when we visited Brighton. My daughter said that you made the best cheesy chips. I had a lovely sausage and chips. Glad we picked this chip shop will sure to visit again when we can. I would recommend this place to everyone.

Great little spot right by the beach! We went there with a large group of italian students and they all loved it. The Staff wss really helpful and friendly.

The food here is superb… we had fish and chips which were not greasy and the chips were nice and crunchy.. the sausage and chips cooked and presented to perfection… literally you can throw a stone and hit the beach.. (pun intended). The eating area is well looked after and the staff friendly. The ice cream…. Yes the ice cream ah the perfect desert… if you are on Brighton beach… do yourself a favour… eat here

The food was delicious and the owner is so kind and helpful. We had the chicken tenders, shrimp and of course you cannot skip the fish and chips. I highly recommend this stop if you have the chance!

I recently had the misfortune of dining at Mama Fish, and it was an experience I'd rather forget. The main culprit for this culinary disaster was the sausage. It was, quite frankly, the worst sausage I've ever encountered. The flavor was bizarre, almost off-putting, and the texture was rubbery and unappealing. It felt like the meat used was something you'd find in a horror movie, not a restaurant. To add insult to injury, the portion of sauce was laughably small. I ended up eating dry sausage and dry chips, which was a truly unpleasant experience. The entire meal left me feeling unsatisfied and frankly, a little bit sick. I would strongly advise anyone considering dining at Mama Fish to steer clear. Unless you're a fan of no flavors and no sauce, you're better off finding somewhere else to eat.

The beer battered cod and chips was sublime and the cooking of the fish was perfect. The host was a lovely person with great customer service. Please support your independent traders as they work so hard for our pleasure. With so many choices of venues to eat fish and chips, sometimes the smaller independent venues are better, this one certainly is. Highly recommend eating here. Thank-you so much. Today is my third day in a row at Mama Fish at they have the best fish&chips plus best ice cream in Brighton! 100% recommend! The Service is also amazing!

On the Saturday 28/06/2024 at 13:00. We both had large ice cream that was superb, then we come back to have lunch, nice scampi & chips & cod & chips with home made tartasource, very fresh & very tasty, we will eat there again 100%.

I went recently to have some of the best chips I have ever had in Brighton. They were the best chips I have ever had in Brighton pier and this was complimented by a grand ice cream and lovely service.

This a lovely find on the beach! The lady that runs it is very friendly and you can tell they really care about serving only the freshest fried chips and fish. The price is very reasonable considering the freshness and portion sizes and beachfront location. There can be a tiny wait but it’s worth it as it looks like they fry everything to order so you get piping hot crispy fish and chips. We got the scampi, “cod-dog”, and a regular cod and chips and it was all very tasty. Don’t skip the homemade tartar sauce! Would definitely come back here next time we’re in town.

Very small cod, very hard and bruised chips, a small takeaway cup, of tea, even though i sat at a table there. £14.50. For another 4 quid you can get excellent large plaice n chips, with mushy peas and tartar sauce...and a 3 large cup pot of tea, at Harry Ramsdens. 100% will use Harry Ramsdens in future

Just everything you want from seaside fish and chips. Lovey staff, lovey food and lovely Brighton back drop. Harks to an experience I thought we’d lost from Brighton and a place I’ll be not only re visit but re-loving. Came with my girlfriend and pooch and we both delighted to a classic cod and chip combo (even the dog managed to wrangle a dog friendly (?!?!?) ice cream from us 😂. Thank you mama ‘brumie’ fish!!!

Fish and chips are A M A Z I N G. Worth every penny.

A teeny bit pricey, but that does seem to be reflective of food prices overall at the moment, so fair! Friendly service and a tasty traditional meal! The server seemed a bit wary of my plan to take my meal on to the beach and warned me about the seagulls. Wish I’d taken this advice and sat in the café’s seating area instead! But a good experience overall!

Came here for lunch the other day, was the chips by the sea side we’ve ever had! Customer service fab and very reasonably priced! Will definitely come back when we’re visiting again!

Stopped here for lunch & thought it looked like a good spot. Food was pretty good, arguably I don’t think the chips were “chippy chips” but the fish was amazing. The lady that I’m assuming owns the business was lovely, couldn’t have done more, was so friendly. Unfortunately the chef let the experience down, screaming numbers angrily (which I can understand is frustrating if people don’t listen), shouting at people for moving the sauces because “they will get shut down if they’re moved.” The lady did try and make light of the situation but it was just a shame that you felt like you were being told off whilst enjoying your lunch

Long wait times but very good fish and chips

The location is fantastic. Just on Brighton beach, very convenient. The cod and chips were perfect. Good portion. Fresh flaky cod and perfectly crisp chips. I recommend the cod and chips here. I only felt the price could have been a pound less and they closed earlier than 5. Since it’s going to be summer now, it will be a great option to keep it open till 7.

We booked a table for 7 people for last night. Personally I found the place unwelcoming. Point blank Refused entry without face masks and told to go and buy them. No option to provide them inside which was odd considering it’s their preference and disappointing that they were so stern when telling us to go and buy them. Considering our group took up half the restaurant it just seemed ridiculous to enforce this and be so rude about it when there appeared to be no additional benefit. The limited staff serve you unmasked so it was effectively to enable us to walk past the bar on entrance. Really odd. Just a bit grotty inside. Especially the loos, felt more nightclub than restaurant. The food was ok to be fair. Nothing spectacular in my opinion, very vinegary and a bit tough. But it wasn’t bad. Huge portions. No order to how food came out. Mains came before starters and people had finished their main before others had even received theirs. It just didn’t flow well at all. Then a compulsory service charge is added. Not great in my opinion.

Noisy in the evening but has a creative menu at lunch. Not cheap but you can ask, like the man sitting next to me, for a half portion. He had cod in batter with chunky hand cut chips. We ate creative veggie. Friendly service. At least the young man in charge, Chris, asked us if we were enjoying our meal. A very European approach! We will be back for lunch. I have been upstairs for a Meetup group and recall downstairs attracted a young noisy crowd but lunch time attracts all ages. In fact the old boy next to me with his regular cod and chips plus red wine was 78. He told me he came every day and spent £15 on 2 red wines and a half portion. Go go go!

Second visit to this pub. Doesn't cease to impress. Staff are brilliant, vegan and vegetarian options are varied and tasty! Great drinks too. Only qualm I had was with their definition of what a pie is. Like dry pie? Then this is for you. As part of their collaboration with 'Moor' beers, their special menu offered a 'Chestnut Mushroom pie' that definitely needs a different title. Most would see a pie as a lidded pastry receptacle filled with wet umami meats and vegetables or in this case just some decent mushrooms - not here. I was served a dry bowl of vegetables with a puff pastry cracker on top. Inevitably, I asked if there was gravy in the house, as this would have brought it all together - in honest, these vegetable were well prepared, with truffle mash and flavoursome mushrooms, and I would have walked away happy with just a little juice to offset the parching mash, but I was told this is 'how it is'. The kind waiter even went to ask the chef if some gravy could be made, but told me he had his head taken off in the process! Poor guy. I appreciate it was a Saturday evening, but I was happy to wait and pay for any extra hassle - and this is a pub - I would assume a packet of bisto was a cupboard staple in a public house! I'd suggest they rename the dish something like 'Umami chestnut mushrooms, topped with a puff pastry ceiling, truffled mash, steamed tenderstem brocolli and mixed vegetables.' This experience hasn't tarnished my view of Earth and Stars, just enabled me to warn others that if you're ordering that pie, bring your own gravy or get a jug of water beforehand! To end on a positive, the jackfruit burger they do is incredible. Cooked to perfection with a soft bun and sweet potato fries. Get that instead!

Mostly well cooked and very tender meats but the rice was overcooked. Flavours powerwful which I like but something in there that wasn’t for me. Not that it was bad just I didn’t get on with it. Staff very lovely. Atmosphere positive and not so busy.

Really good cod and chips. Fish fresh and succulent, proper chunky chips. Just one little advice to make sure to dry the fish on a tissue before serving so it's less oily

The fish was done well, freshly fried with crispy batter & was delicious with the fresh lemon. Unfortunately the chips were disappointing. They were quite hard & thick & nothing like the soft chipper chips that you would usually get from a fish n chipper. I used nearly the full bottle of vinegar to soften them. The service was quite grumpy & not mannerly. The view was of the sea & dustbins! There are better places for fish n chips in Brighton.

We waited a while despite no queue for the food which we didn't mind, but for the high price we were disappointed as the battered cod was a tiny portion and mostly just excessively oily batter with very little fish unfortunately. They also were not very friendly there.

Absolutely awful! No flavour, tasted like lard on an undercooked potato. The lady who took the money was holding a full conversation on her phone ( hands free) difficult to work out who she was speaking to her clients or not! I have learnt however that she was “ absolutely hangin” from a night out! I’d suggest customers try elsewhere

Maybe I have high expectations! However when I order fish and chips I expect fresh fish and hand cut chips!!! Unfortunately that was not what I received, the fish was delicious however I would class it as a very small portion for the price £9.50! The chips were standard bought in and not fresh potato, it was also clear the chips were precooked and warmed up in the fryer! Personally I’m happy to wait to have my food cooked fresh.. Simply disappointing, I will not be returning!

Really great Battered Sausage and chips. Definitely the best battered sausage I've had. The chips were pretty good and not covered in oil unlike some establishments! Probably the best priced food along the beachfront.

Friendly staff, but food poor. Fish was freshly cooked which was a nice touch but unfortunately it was incredibly thin and all you could taste was batter. What was really unexpected however were the chips, which seemed to be frozen canteen style chips, and I find them inedible. I rarely get to Brighton and don't have fish and chips elsewhere so it should have been a treat, and I was left so disappointed, especially when I walked around the corner and found what I'd been craving in abundance. Unfortunately won't be back, wasn't to my taste buds.

I’m not too sure why this place has gotten so many bad reviews. Me and my mum ate here on Sunday and believe me my mother is one of the most fussiest of people. She doesn’t eat any fast food - only fish and chips and she won’t eat anywhere that looks unclean and she absolutely raved about her fish and chip. I had a battered sausage and it wasn’t greasy and the batter was so crispy. Lovely food. And people moaning about portions and prices. They are a pop up shop on the sea front of course their prices will be a bit more than most places in the area.

I did the order and keep watching the man how cooking the fish NOT CLEAN AT ALL touching his nose working without gloves liking his finger with his tongue many times to separated the paper and served boxes then touch the food smell of oil burning serving costumers with dirty hands NOT RECOMMENDED AND TRY TO AVOID IT AVOID IT AVOID IT DIRTY

Tiny portion of dry tasteless fish with soggy chips. £1.25p for tartare sauce and lady (I assume Mama) seemed like she didn't want to serve us. No smile or acknowledgement that we'd even placed an order! Do yourself a favour and find somewhere better.

The chips were not fish and chip shop chips but clearly pre-made frozen chips. The fish tasted ok but not great. Today (the day after) all four of us also have dodgy bellies and that was the only meal we all ate together. Would not recommend. Over priced and who can forgive frozen chips in a fish and chip shop? Shame as the location is ideal and the staff were really friendly.

Stopped here to grab some fish and chips and it was not nice at all. The fish was really wet on the inside and thinnest layer of batter. Such a shame. Condiments are kept in the sunset and vinegar out of a spray bottle?!?
