An exceptional roast in stunning surroundings at incredible value for money with spot on service. I think that’s all the elements covered. This was a faultless experience had by myself and my partner. The roast was absolutely gorgeous, we both had the celeriac wellington. Packed full of flavour and served pipping hot, 10/10 roast potatoes, then a huge selection of vegetables, extra gravy and stuffing. Complimentary sparkling water, linen napkins, sea salt and pepper grinders ( because they DO make the difference between good and great) in a buzzy atmosphere. Here’s the best bit…. £16. Yup, that’s no typo, This is without doubt, bang for buck the best value roast in or around Bury. I didn’t actually want to write this review as I wanted to keep this a hidden secret but the team have worked so hard to make this place work (it hasn’t for decades now) it would be rude not too. This was our first visit to Damson & Wilde since its relaunch. We were a table of 7 with both adults and children. Being a Sunday most of us had roast dinner which we all enjoyed, the vegetable selection was excellent and the portions were generous. We were very impressed with the attentiveness of the staff particularly when taking the children’s food orders. The interior of the restaurant is really lovely and I would definitely return. Thank you 😊

Took advantage of the set menu for £22.50 which was excellent, Whitebait were really good, I had the gnocchi which was delicious, the rest of the table had the pork schnitzel and really enjoyed it. The service was friendly and efficient, the restaurant is very comfortable and has a lovely atmosphere. Look forward to going back and trying the regular menu.

Our first visit to Damson & Wilde, had been put off by issues they had after opening, but had heard they had been bought out by a local restaurant group with a good reputation. First day of a new menu, and the food was faultless. The mushroom soup was thick, creamy and delicious. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection and my burger was fab. We didn't have any room left, but we're still tempted by a sticky toffee pudding to share, which again was fantastic. All this was complimented by a pint of local Brewshed Counterfeit. More impressive than the food was the service, the two staff in the restaurant were attentive and engaging, without intruding. Nothing was too much trouble. As a restaurant manager myself I'm difficult to please as a customer, but I could find no fault at all. We will definitely be back, thank you!

First trip to Damson & Wilde today for a Sunday roast. Love the atmosphere in there, lovely set up & appearance with nice lighting. Staff were nice, friendly & attentive. The homemade lemonade is yum! For starter I opted for the cauliflower bites and some olives, I wasn’t sure any of the other starters really appealed to me that much. I enjoyed the cauliflower bites, but I must say, the portion size was a little small for the price point. For mains I chose the roast beef Sunday roast. This was lovely! A generous serving size and a good amount of beef. Beef was cooked perfectly too, a little fatty though. They give the veg on one big share plate for the table, this is not my favourite way of it being dished up, but that’s just my personal preference. I enjoyed that they gave us a jug of extra gravy straight away without having to ask, as I do tend to find I always need extra! The gravy was a little thin would be my main disappointment of the meal. The overall roast though was yummy, and I would definitely recommend. The price was a little high for us to be able to come back too regularly. For a starter, main and soft drink each our bill for 4 people was £150. Not 100% sure if it was worth the price point compared to some of the other roasts we’ve tried, but would definitely come back for a treat another time. Would also be interested to try some other dishes!

Amazing!!! It's time to give D&W another chance now that it is under new ownership / management and part of our local Gusto Pronto group. When D&W first opened I went twice and was disappointed on every level bar the aesthetically pleasing building, decor and garden. Knowing that D&W was in new 'safe' hands and with the festive season done and dusted, we were keen to see if things were different and our experience was like night and day. Knowledgeable, personable wait staff provided a great service experience and handled our party of seven brilliantly. We dined here on a Sunday so three of our party had roasts, three had burgers and one had soup and a sharing platter. Our food came out promptly with all our small menu modifications handled, piping hot, delicious and in incredible portion sizes that mean D&W now offers great value for money. Everyone in our party was blown away by their meal and our lovely main server (Ms. D!) We were thrilled, and hope that the Gusto Pronto group will continue to pour their love, attention and good practices into Damson & Wilde, its staff and its menu so that its reputation can be fully rehabilitated and its tables fully booked. Well done!

Hot chocolate great. Food cold. Disappointed as most of the food was cold not even lukewarm. Obv not reheated properly. They did discount my bill as I couldn’t eat it all. Would need to improve

This stunning historic venue has been taken under the Gusto Pronto umbrella of companies, the changes will take place in January 2024. The last two times I've been were both in December, some of the changes are so obvious, much more attentive and professional staff, the whole place is now sparkling and very clean. I should add, that as always this is my personal review of any place I go. Twice now I've booked a certain table and its not been available, is a small thing but if I book well enough in advance, I expect that table. The service is just so much better, on my second visit the staff were two down due to illness, immediately pointed out to us, and a slight delay may take, place, it was still super service. My guests all liked there food, first group, had the fish and chips, really great and good value, I had the salmon dish, I thought my salmon a bit over cooked, although the desserts were so very good. Second visit, two of us had the burger, one liked his, mine again was a bit over cooked and a tad dry, one guest had the mussels, the house wine is good value for money, great desserts once again, and lovely coffee. The new owners will in 2024 put their food stamp on this venue, its going to be terrific with one of the nest outdoor seating areas in Bury St Edmunds. This is where I wish TripAdvisor did scores out of 100, it would make life easier for folks like me that want to leave genuine reviews. I Don't give out many 5 stars, hence would prefer if out of 100, as several places would be in the 90s. Of course I'll go back and cannot wait for the food to rise to the owners wishes and customer's high standards.

We went for our company dinner and even though there were 16 of us the food was delicious. Most of us had the roast turkey, which was very tasty, hot and lots of it. Dessert was just as good. Went for lunch with two friends. Wonderful greeting and really good lunch. 1 fish & chips, 1 tuna starter ( as a main) 1 mussels all served by lovely Ray who looked after us so well….. We had been here before and the food was bad but because it has been taken over by the One Bull we expected an improvement. It was a Tuesday evening and I said that to the waitress when we arrived and she replied they had been but it's the same menu. I nearly left then but stupidity stayed. I had a burger which was totally dry no juice whatsoever and the cheese on the top was a solid molten mass it felt like it had been cooked yesterday and heated up. My wife had the vegetarian option which I think was some sort of curry. It tasted rehashed and gloopy. We were both hungry after a long drive so we ate it but regretted not walking out after the first mouth full. The One Bull, which we eat at, have not built a reputation on turning out rubbish like this. We won't make the same mistake again Not to run it down completely the service was good

Server was great, food wasn't so good the black garlic hummus was tasteless and there was just some raw veg. The main dish was ok, though the carrots were hard due to all being different sizes ( it was the tarte tatin ) The main problem was the cold, the server turned the heating up, gave my friend a blanket that had been outside so it was wet and smelled, she then gave her a hot water bottle but ( due to health and safety) it was cold. She was very helpful but the food wasn't up to there normal standard , not sure if it was a change of menu or different chef?

We went on a very busy Saturday night with a couple of large tables already dining and another came in. The staff were incredibly busy but didn't falter and were attentive. Food was great and we didn't feel that we waited behind the large tables. Decor, cleanliness etc was great. Very much recommend.
