Byron in St Edmundsbury

Called in while visiting the city it wasn’t too busy so we got a table quite easy. We both had the cheeseburger with some extra onion rings and some ok wine from a short selection the service was good as was the atmosphere .

The fact you cannot order via a waiter/waitress says it all really. Ordered for four people off two phones at the same time and the food came out 10 minutes between. By the time the second half of the food arrived the first half of food was finished. Over cooked / burnt burgers no check backs in a dead restaurant, again says it all really. Don't bother wasting good money here go somewhere else, no wonder Bryon Burgers are in trouble

Awful dining experience! From what used to be a friendly welcome with waitress/waiter service has turned into fast food conveyor belt service. On arrival we were greeted and shown to a table and very quickly made aware of the QR code to order and pay for our food and drinks. When our food arrived, it was plonked in front of us, with no added ‘enjoy your meal’. There was also no check to see if everything was okay whilst we ate. Our food arrived and at best I can say it looked presentable however, the fries were dry and the portion measly and the burgers were oily and greasy. The cheese on the burgers was not even cheese, just that cheap plastic, rubber slice of something that looks like cheese. A very very disappointing experience. Not sure how they can claim to produce ‘ proper hamburgers’. Anyway, I would never, never eat there again or recommend anyone to. Much nicer places to eat.

Popped into Byron BSE for what we thought would be a great burger - but oh no you can only order via the app now & when that doesn’t work & you walk to reception for assistance you are told whilst not really taking notice of you thats the only way - you leave sharpish. So if you have dexterity problems, your mobile is low on battery or the app isn’t working or you want good old customer service then you have S**t out, they do not want you. Good luck with that Byron 1*

Went in with my nieces and nephews after some shopping, Jess greeted us at the door and from start to finish was an A* server, kids were given an activity sheet, menu and order process explained and was on hand for any question asked. My first time in Byron and I will definitely be returning, the food was gorgeous too and the recommendations from Jess were fantastic! All in all a brilliant lunch out :)

Great meal with tasty burgers. One Byron burger and one skinny burger with a good salad. The kids enjoyed their burgers. Activity sheets for the kids kept them amused and the kids mini shake was a real hit!

We were a party of 5 and Maddy looked after us very well throughout our meal. I had chicken without a bun and was impressed when I was asked if I would like it grilled instead of fried. Burgers, fries, slaw all fresh and delicious. Will go again.

My son and me ate here today. Not impressed at all. Had to use a QR code to place order and they added a service charge on the bill which I did not see before I paid. I should of asked for this to be refunded!! It took 30 minutes to receive our food once order was confirmed as received. Definitely over priced and just average quality beef and chicken burgers!! For the price of burgers I couldn't believe you had to pay extra for chips!! Definitely not recommended and we will not be going back. Recommend you eat somewhere else!!

Tables and Seats were dirty. As I asked the table to be cleaned I was told it was ‘stained’, the dried ketchup marks then came up when they wiped it. I wiped a bit harder with my napkin to get the rest off. Food was ok, burgers a little overcooked, the buns not great quality as they broke apart easily when eating. No table service, orders are through the QR code. Yet noticed a 10% service charge was added when I check my order details. This wasn’t clear at all during the ordering process. All other service elements would clearly be covered by the cost of the food. Disappointing experience overall for £50 for three people. When I questioned the service charge they would not refund it. Won’t be returning.

No table service order on QR code or if you push at the till. Down Market with scruffy staff and not very clean. Do not bother needs to shut.

1. Signs out front state ’Table Service’ - waited outside at a table, no welcome, and ended up using the QR code on the table to order food and drinks - £60 for two of us. 2. Expensive - you certainly don’t pay for a welcome or customer service (probably on the menu as an extra) 3. Had to ask for cutlery - ordered salad, onion rings and fries 4. Nobody bothered to ask if we enjoyed the meal 5. Wasn’t busy - perhaps four tables taken 6. No excuse for what was an incredibly disappointing dining experience 7. Very very slow service, and dirty plates left on tables - avoid! Better places nearby.

Haven't been here for a while and won't be bothering again. No longer any table service only order and pay on QR code or at till. One step away from self service although they do bring food to table but I was beginning to wonder. Our bill was £50 as we went for a proper meal but other two tables - 1 x 6 youngsters had 2 milkshakes and 2 x adults had 2 cokes and packet of cigarettes. Scruffy staff apart from guy who cleared the table who needs to find a better establishment to work at. That said burger was really good and everything well cooked so 2 blobs for that.

Wow! I haven’t eaten at Byron for about 6 years since I moved away and there wasn’t one local to me. I loved the food then but the changes they have made to the menu now are incredible. Still great burgers but the options to the customise are brilliant, it was so relaxed and easy going. We wanted to try a few different things so we ordered the onion rings, mac n cheese and dirty tots for the sides and they were out of this world. Amazing quality food, lovely atmosphere and lots of freedom to make changes to suit what you want.

Scrolling through the online menu, the bill soon racks up, but you get what you pay for! Every dish (no... every BITE) was fantastic. I'm a cheese and bacon kind of guy so I went for the double smash. Dirty fries are exactly that, and the beer went down fantastically too. Lovely outdoor area for some fresh air and sunshine. I imagine we will be back everytime we visit Bury! Lovely little selection of sauces too.

Food is good, personally I would expect to have bigger sides in accordance with the price. The ordering system from scanning the table works great.

Great Food, I recommend it! We’ve been here a few times but not for a couple of years. The food was delicious, my wife and I both ordered the same (buttermilk chicken burger & fries). The chicken was soft and the coating nice and crispy. Very tasty. Our experience was very good, we hadn’t booked, no issue on Friday afternoon (5pm). Friendly staff. You can see that the burgers use real meat, NOT processed meat. The smell walking past is lovely, unlike some burger places that smell like a fat factory. Anyway, I highly recommend Byron in Bury St Edmunds!

The staff were absolutely brilliant so friendly and attentive and so welcoming. The food perfect! Was our first time here and we will Definitely be back!

We live a few miles out of town. But we'll worth the drive for take away. The burgers are amaziing...but the onion rings are awesome.

My favorite place to order! I love the customization options, and the consideration for gluten intolerant people like myself, who find it very difficult to get good quality takeaways :') No burgers have ever come close, and I recommend the cheese bites! They're always friendly, and happy to help with any oopsies that (rarely) happen. Makes me smile to see 'enjoy your food :)' written on the bag sometimes - it's the little things like that. Ps. Tysm for the loyalty brownies!

I wanted a quiet cosy corner spot to read a book and have a fantastic burger by myself and it was perfect. I was in on a Wednesday late afternoon and it was quite quiet which is exactly what I was aiming for. The food was incredible, as always :) will definitely be back. I even left the restaurant texting a friend to say that we would head straight to Byron’s for burgers when they visit from Dublin.

When Byron first in launched in London in 2007 they served fantastic, US style burgers which were distinctive and tasted great. Unfortunately they are now serving drab, dry and below average burgers - not only has the wow taste factor gone, but the meat was genuinely below the taste quality of the 2 big burger food chains. The app service was more than disappointing, either a badly executed legacy from the early post pandemic days or the fact the business is cutting staff costs due to its third owner (a private investment company) not being hands on. It's really not that difficult to serve a good burger these days but a business cannot get away for too long selling £17 a head burgers (with very poor customer service) if they taste as bad as they did at the Bury St Edmunds branch the other night - an experience myself and my friend will not be repeating again.

Frustrating as we loved coming here. Came for a restaurant experience and were told we had to use their app. Trying to get the burger we wanted was just too difficult and at over £50 for three not an experience at all. We could also just pick up our food and cook ourselves but that's not what we wanted to come out for!!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Myself and my partner came in this afternoon and tried to order food on the app, it failed so we asked a male member of staff for help, he was very helpful with another female member of staff and told us they would help us at the till to place our order as there had been issues using the QR code. When we got to the til there was , I assume the manger who said very upbruply "are you on our wifi" when we said yes she said "well you can't be" I told her we did try and again 2 members of staff told her that they were experiencing issues with the QR code. The manager told them "we don't use the tils" then I told her that we can go somewhere else if its an issue for them and she answered "ok" Myself and my partner were left shocked. I'm 17 weeks pregnant so was rather hungry and tired after a morning walking around the shops. I have never come across someone so rude. She should not be in a customer facing job. The other two members of staff were very apologetic and said we could stay but ny this point I was so upset.

Avoid this place at all costs. Terrible manager who was extremely rude to myself and my partner this afternoon after we experienced issues using the app to order food. We were told they don't use tills to order food. I have left a trip advisor with more details but everyone please avoid.

The food was spot on but the time for it to arrive at the table was well below par I can accept that they were busy and therefore things will take a little longer, however that there was no communication about how long things would take or the number of orders being dealt with leaves customers getting increasingly frustrated (we weren’t the only table getting a touch hacked off)

Great experience. We were seated quickly and shown how to order with the QR code. Our drinks and food came in good time and the quality was fantastic as always. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

We arrived later than usual, nobody in there other than the very pared town staff, it's such a shame as the food is always good. The new ordering experience of using a QR code was not brilliant. Call me old fashioned, but I do like to be served by an actual person, I feel for the great staff as many have lost their jobs. Not fair at all. We'll certainly go back when we're in Bury again, but we're not the regular visitors we used to be unfortunately. If you've not been, go and try it, always great, reasonably priced food.

Ordered takeaway but burger was crucified and dry, really felt disappointed with how bad it was, not sure if the recipe is different, wasn’t an option online for pink & juicy like there was previously so thinking things have changed a lot. Would avoid if you were expecting the original Byron experience, that’s long gone.

A little expensive, The chicken wings were over cooked but the rest of the food was good. Just my personal opinion but I think the people serving tables should have had their long hair tied back.

I'm not a fan of the new system for ordering food when dining in. Orders are now taken online via a QR code which is really impersonal and detracts significantly from the social element of eating out. You also have to pay at the point of order so....what happens if you're not happy with your food or if the wrong food is sent to your table? Service charge wasn't obvious on their online system and seems a bit much when the customer does pretty much everything themselves. My burger was meant to be pink in the middle but arrived really quite burnt. I couldn't be bothered to complain. Others in my party said their food was ok but we all agreed £100 odd for 35 minutes out and no real customer service was very disappointing. Only four other diners in there on a Friday night probably says it all.

The burgers are good and the food is good in general. We have been coming here for about 3 years and this is the first time they tell us they don’t have table service anymore? We wanted a waiter to take our order (like always) and the manager said they don’t have that option anymore and that we have to order using the QR code on the table. Very inconvenient and bad experience. You might as well just order through Deliveroo or Uber eats. Terrible change.

I went got a classic burger and soda float. I ate it, pretty good burger, but as I went to go pay all my friends paid for the burgers and then I pay. After, I realise on my receipt I paid for a chilli burger (£4 more expensive) the cashier said one of my friends paid for it so they owe me, but he was clearly lying so I asked him and he blanked me. All in all a disappointment with the service and how much they took with doing the order, the only thing good was the burger.

Jake was great with our little one, everything arrived really quickly and was delicious! We went early so wasn’t busy, didn’t feel rushed at all. Great meal out for us!

Really disappointing takeaway. Burgers are nothing special at all. And the chips were overcooked - and full of oil - like they gave us the dregs of a batch. Certainly won’t try them again.

Was looking forward to trying the bryon burgers even though they where very pricey. No faults on there delivery driver as he arrived on time. The burgers were not up to expectations they where very bland and overcooked. Very disappointed and will not be ordering from there again. Only good thing going was the milkshakes.

This is perfect for a burger, and they have the best chips! I actually used to go here for the chips and milkshakes (they do a good vegan salted caremel one). It's famous for its burgers but the chips and drinks are also good. Really friendly staff. 100% recommend

Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. They don't care whatsoever if you have a "rare" severe allergy, as that allergy doesn't appear in the main 14 , glasses covered in dirt , literally dirt , and the services was just awful. If their glasses are covered in dirt , I'm dreadful to think about cooking conditions. Really hope that some hygiene inspection goes there unannounced . Wish I could give minus stars

Overpriced for what it is. Onion rings were dripping in cooking oil. Beef pattie had very little flavour. Very disappointing.

First time at Byrons today , we were not that impressed ! Chicken burgers were okay but very small and French fries were far too salty. (Have noticed online fries are free in January but we had to pay for ours). Glad we didn't pay anymore for the meal.

Burger heaven with every juicy bite yummy, the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Trust me I know a good burger when I taste one.

Service was quick, everyone was helpful and polite. I had the chicken wings and it was delicious. My boyfriend had the cheeseburger and he throughly enjoyed it. Found it value for the price

Went here the other night with the lads for our Crimbo meet-up. We were served by a lovely lady who was obviously into the Christmas spirit. She was very knowledgeable of the menu and helped the “Byron Virgins” in the group. The food was good, not the best I’ve had at Byron but there were no complaints. Me and Millsy got a cheeky pud which was also fine. However one young man was pretty rude to me which I didn’t appreciate. When he brought my burger over he said “One classic burger” to which I replied “I ordered a cheeseburger”. He then said “Looks like it’s got cheese in it, don’t it?”. Like, I’m sorry I don’t know the Byron Burger menu inside out to know that a cheeseburger is just a classic burger with cheese in it. There was no need to give me that sass, plus he made me look stupid in front of the boys. Anyway overall the whole experience was fine, although it is a bit pricey.

Food was great hot tastey and very well made and prepared came quick and fresh. Service was quick effective nice polite It was a cold evening when I went so a little empty was was great I would say the only disappointment about the whole thing is that putting tips straight on to your bill with you having a choice what I find uncomfortable as you then have to ask to take it off , tip should be a choice Saying this I was happy to tip that day

Absolutely shocking, we were seated right near the door, we asked if we could sit away from the door as we have a 10month old baby in a high chair and she would be sitting with her back facing the door. We could not have moved the hair chair any where else as it would have made it difficult with the waiter and waitress and other people to get out of their table but we were told that the other table was reserved. However later a family came in and asked for a table and they were seated there, so not sure about the possible reservation. We had to wait a fair amount of time for our meals especially the 3 children’s meals and when it did arrive the chips were cold. My biggest complaint is that my chicken burger was NOT cooked properly. This was rectified relatively quickly and this was deducted from the bill. I just want to say this was our first experience of dinning in Byron and unfortunately we will not be back any time soon.

The food tasted ok, nothing great but also nothing bad, very mediocre. The staff were friendly but not engaging at all. Very expensive for what you get.

This place simply sucks! Our food served was inedible, burnt chips, chicken burger was reheated, bun was old like it had sat out for hours. Terrible experience and waitress simply did not care. I did get refunded, but manager really did not seem to care or ask for details so she could make it better. We were so disappointed….food sucked, facility was filthy, staff (cooks, wait staff etc.) were loud, unkempt and clueless.

Friendly service. Usual byron fare.

Waitstaff was friendly, the food left much to be desired. £43 for a C-Rex, B-Rex, two sodas, some fries and “sweet gochujang” sauce which was Mae Ploy’s sweet chili sauce (Amazon it, you can buy a years worth for a meal here) that just so happens to have some chili flakes in it. Beef Burger was dry and the chicken was like biting into the Sahara, where the only moisture came from an oasis of tears from hopes and dreams of some good food. No salt in sight but the tangy teds made it bearable.

Byron never let’s me down, always comes hot and never disappoints! Also was treated to some brownie bites on the house which was a nice surprise :)

I really enjoyed my burger here. Very good options for veggie/vegans and not just the generic options that you get at other burger resturants . Beef and chicken alternatives .

I think they have one of the best burgers . Cheese fries were absolutely delicious, wings were soft and well cooked , no blood near the bones(as most restaurants serve them)chicken strips were crispy and tasty. Our preferences were respected by the staff and overall our experience was fantastic, we will definitely return. Prices are decent, staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. Highly recommend!

Didn’t enjoy it, don’t recommend it. Menu seems massively depleted. Everything is separate, making it more expensive. Skin on fries, had no skin. Burger was requested to be medium, arrived burnt. I used to really enjoy the food here. Unfortunately I don’t anymore.

The most tasteless burger, I’ve ever had in my entire life, the only thing which added anything to it was the tomato ketchup, an abysmal offering! McDonald’s burgers have far more flavour at a fraction of the cost. The quality is extremely poor for the price they charge

Didn’t get half of what I ordered. When I asked about getting refunded I got told to speak to head office. They replied to one email and have no stopped replying

Food was OK and they do gluten free so misses was happy

I’m coeliac and was able to swap wheat bun for a gluten free. Staff were very attentive to my dietary requirements and actually cannot put into words that eating here was a normal experience. Thank you.

We went here for a late lunch before a cinema trip. The service was very good and quick (although there were only about three other people in there), and the food was very nice. But the restaurant itself was pretty filthy. There were crumbs on the seats of the booth we sat in, and chips on the floor. The loos were also not terribly clean, and there was no loo roll. So not great, all in all.

Arrived here at lunch and were seated straight away - I usually find that rare in busy town centres! The waitress was very friendly and helpful. She served us straight away. The only issue I had was when I asked for the toilet she directed me to the disabled one, and I couldn't access it because I don't have a key plus I'm not disabled. I found the others which were up a flight of stairs. Not ideal on a full bladder! Food was delicious. I had the cheese burgers and cheese fries. I just wish the cheese on the fries was hard and not the sauce type.

We were looking for somewhere to eat and had not been to this restaurant before, so we thought we would give it a try. It was our first visit and will be our last. We had no problem with the staff who were very friendly nor with the quality of the food, but we have a problem with their PRICES!! When you get charged £13.75 for a burger, we would expect chips with it, but no you have pay extra for these, another whopping £3.75 for a portion. Our drinks: a Byron Lager for my husband a mere £5.50 and a sparkling elderflower drink comes in at £3.95 - both of those drinks came in a can, what a markup. We really do NOT expect to pay nearly £50 for 2 burgers, 2 lots of chips and 2 drinks.

A great place to eat in Bury St. Edmunds whatever you are doing. We usually go for dinner, for some reason we are always served by Claudia who is always brilliant. I know everyone at Byron's works hard, but she really does do more than you would ever think possible. Thank you. Whenever you go the service is always very quick and professional, obviously there are lots of delivery drivers in the evenings more than lunchtimes I imagine, but even so it is really worth going. If you are going to an event at the Apex even though it is only round the corner from it, go earlier than normal to Byron's as they will be busy. Great food, freshly cooked. Highly recommend. Even if you think burgers etc aren't your thing, there are lots of other choices, try them, you wont be disappointed.

Used to be our go to place, they've just gradually increased the prices and made the portions much much smaller. What felt like a treat and a place they put heart into the food now just feels like a generic burger place. Sad but we are unlikely to ever return now.
