We’re lucky enough to have Curry Door just down the road, and it’s quickly become our favourite place in Oxford not only because of the fantastic food, but also because of the welcome we get every time we arrive, the sense of familiarity and warmth. We always feel as though we are at home, but with much better food.

Best curry spot we've ever been to! Perhaps one of the best meals I've ever eaten. Visted on a trip from the U.S. and not only were the staff and owners incredibly helpful & kind, the curry dishes were exceptionally well done. Every menu item is made entirely from scratch on site, and it makes all the difference! Would highly recommend splitting multiple dishes among friends or family to enjoy the variety - a must visit!!

We had our anniversary meal here as we wanted to stay local, and it was excellent in every way. We came for the halwa puri but had the lamb karhai and mixed grill as well. The halwa puri was light, the puri was not greasy. This is authentic Pakistani food. Family run and they made us feel at home... recommend and will return.

Lovely family restaurant - the word authentic gets thrown around a lot but I genuinely felt the restaurant and the experience was as such. Food was delicious and halwa puri was not so heavy - be prepared to wait though (for good reason because it seems things are made as soon as an order is placed). Will be coming again and bringing other friends for sure!

I am terribly disappointed with their service. Extremely slow. I want to emphasize 'extremely'. It's not a big place, so a bit cramped with tables placed very close together. The smell and smoke from the kitchen fills the seating area, so it might be a little suffocating for some. The food is good. Authentic flavours. Tried their chicken jalfrezi. It was very good and the right kind of spicy. But very small portion. There were 6-7 tiny slivers of chicken and the bowl was instead filled with onions and peppers. The garlic naan was flavourful and crispy. But the chicken pakora was a huge disappointment. There were literally three tiny pieces of chewy chicken- not worth the money. I guess it varies from person to person. For some, the good food might make it up for the service. But for me, smiling faces, warm hospitality, courteous staff are just as important. The food here is good but the awful service cancels it out for me.

Relaxed, friendly, apparently family-run. I enjoyed the food, but as another reviewer has mentioned, naan bread is a rather flat, dry, version of the light, fluffy, bread that most Indian restaurants serve.

By chance, we landed in Currydor for a late dinner just before they closed and it turned out to be one of the best we had. It's a small restaurant with a fabulously friendly setting. They make their food fresh, not pre-prepared so that we were able to ask for adjustments to the level of spice and we got exactly what we wanted and the food was really TASTY. The owners were real friendly and the service was warm. It was so good we went back two nights later for an early dinner, just about the time when they opened, and we received the same fantastic level of service and again it was delicious. I cannot recommend this little establishment highly enough. If you love Indian food at a great price and A+ service, you want to try Currydor.

We had a lovely Indian tsjewmawsy here. Some of the 'usual' favourites came with a twist but was very tasty. It's not a restaurant you book for ambience to be honest & for some reason the prices displayed on the window had a faded notice at the side saying these weren't the current prices anymore. Probably wise to amend a very dated board!! We thoroughly enjoyed our food though.

Currydor is a wonderful discovery, out of the centre of Oxford, off the Botley Road,, that specialises in fresh-cooked warm-spiced food, in authentic style, with an extra mix of warm-hearted people. It's a family business where now many locals come to enjoy the extended family vibe. But be careful! I came once 5 years ago, and got addicted, coming in, at least twice a month, since then!. On weekends many diverse faces from across Asia to enjoy the cuisine, as do many Europeans. I call it 'the warm heart of Oxford". A great stop for tourists. A second home for some. Because the food is cooked fresh, it takes slightly more time to come to your plate. But the slight additional wait is worthwhile as many other fans know. And I love the mango lassi!

Currydor is family. Being Indian, we fondly call the owners, "uncle" and "aunty" - terms of endearment usually reserved for extended family members. And the simple reason that we call them so: they are indeed family. Uncle and aunty don't just feed me - they feed me from a place of love. Apart from their genuinely compassionate hospitality, they serve the very best Punjabi food and are oh so accommodating to the needs of customers. Despite having a heavy non-vegetarian menu, they literally changed the menu to accommodate my vegetarian requests. I vividly remember loving the fragrance of the Badshahi dum pukt biryani - a meat dish - and the caring individuals uncle and aunty are, they decided to make me a vegetarian variety. It was and is and always will be sublime. I love this place to such a great degree that when my mother came over, I brought her here to show her my family away from family. Like in many cultures, the rituals surrounding food in South Asia builds family and strengthens family. And to me, that's what the owners of Currydor do. Tucked away in west Oxford, uncle and aunty at Currydor build and strengthen family. Food recommendations: biryani, biryani, and more biryani. halwa. the malai kofta. the sesame naan. of course, the raita. and with that, more biryani. P.S. Please don't go for takeout if you have the opportunity. Spend some time eating, living, laughing, and celebrating at Currydor with uncle and aunty.

If you view Currydor as just another Indian restaurant, you will be grossly mistaken. I first visited Currydor in 2016. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the menu is a full kaleidoscope of Punjabi gems. Every dish is cooked freshly on the spot. The curries themselves are subtly rich. The signature ‘pink’ Kashmiri tea is the best anywhere you can possibly ask for on the British Isles. I later moved out of Oxford, but all I can say is that I’ve been coming back to Currydor the next seven years or so. And there’s more to the food. The owner of the family-run restaurant Rizwan is exceptionally kind and friendly. Safe to say, I have reserved a special space in my heart for Currydor.

Let's start with the positives: the food itself was nice - a couple of the dishes (e.g. Chicken tikka and bhindi) were outstanding - very traditional Pakistani cooking. But not worth that kind of wait and poor service. Also, note that it is bring your own booze for those who drink, which has its advantages. Sadly the place is let down by the shockingly poor dinner last night. Our group arrived at 8pm, the waitress waited ages to take drinks orders and then even longer to bring then. We then had to ask multiple times for 20 minutes until our starter order was taken. Then the chef patron came out 20 minutes after that to reconfirm what the waitress had written down and said "okay now I'll start cooking them". So no food, not even poppadoms, until 9pm. And they flat out refused to take main course order until the starters were served, even though I asked him and the waitress a combined 6 times persistently. So main courses didn't arrive until close to 10pm. He complained that this was why they pre-order the food for large groups - yet he was the one who had taken my reservation for 8 people and mentioned nothing of the sort. When it came to paying, we simply asked him in Urdu if it had all squared up and he barked back sarcastically "well I've split the bill and done the payments as you told me to". Warmer, more efficient service would do the food justice.

I have never written a bad review and feel bad for doing so, especially considering the good reviews we had seen, but I felt the need to share our takeaway experience with Currydor. We ordered a Butter Chicken curry and Vindaloo curry, both of which were absolutely drenched in oil; they had a very thick layer of oil on top and even after attempting to remove it with several sheets of paper towels, the curry was still flooded with oil and was unfortunately inedible. The prices were higher than the majority of Indian takeaways, but the portion sizes were incredibly small. The chicken was tough and bland, the rice was hard and clumped together, the naan was tasteless and burnt, and the mint sauce tasted like vinegar. My partner and I are great fans of Indian food, and perhaps it was a bad night for the restaurant, but this was the worst we have ever had.

I expect that if you live in the area you like coming here. The owner seems to know his customers. If you come here as a stranger you might tend to walk through at first. At least if you go here for a fancy diner based on the positive reviews score. The establishment looks small and simple. Not like a ‘fancy diner’ restaurant. But don't let that stop you. Walk in here. And be positively surprised. The owner comes up to you and (my impression) has a nice dish to sell you that suits you. making money doesn’t seems to be the owner's main motive but quality of food, fair treatment and customer focus. How wonderful. I wish I did live near here. Then I would also be someone who the owner would know if I walked in ;). This is a bijou and basic restaurant with Pakistani Punjabi cooking. The tawa roti is great- fresh off the hot plate, light and soft like home cooking. The owner is very friendly indeed and will adjust the dishes it your taste. If we are in Oxford again, we will definitely visit this restaurant again.

The food quality is absolutely beautiful, the Dal is the perfect option for comfort food i didn't even bother having it with rice it was that good by itself, The butter chicken is also really good, the service was also exceptional as even when the kitchen was closed they took my order and offered me their available options, Thank you Rizwan i really appreciate the hospitality

I’m a fan of heat, no doubt. I enjoy growing my own chillies. But their butter chicken (which I ordered as a mild meal as I have a sore throat) was off-the-charts-hot. I had even selected the “mild” option from their heat level options, as this was a takeaway. Furthermore, the portion size is very small, with perhaps 6/7 chunks of tiny chicken pieces barely bigger than dice and 5 measly pieces of paneer in my saag paneer side (usually this would be 50/50 paneer/saag, as you would expect at any other establishment). Neither myself or my partner finished our meals. As someone who eats out frequently, the quality of the food is generally wholly average to poor, I am sorry to say, and so I would not eat from here again… even if I wanted to have a meal with high heat. Overpriced for what you get. First experience here, and the last. Avoid.

Fantastic curries. All made from scratch using family recipes. Best curry I’ve had in a long time. Highly recommend this family restaurant.

One of best halal places in Oxford. Amazing guys, really tasty and quick service. Friendly staff. Both husband and wife who are running this are amazing couple to talk. I am glad to visit this place on my way back to Leeds. Prices are reasonable and portion sizes are good. Really enjoyed all the curry here and mix grill was also very tasty. Really good experience and will surely visit again whenever i will be around.

Excellent samosas. Best I’ve had in Europe. Also, must try their jalfrezi, biryani and Karahi. Loved the hospitality- the owners serve themselves.

Do not be out off by the simplicity of the decor of this little gem. It’s a family run place, you’ll be welcomed as soon as you step in. There are no frills here, but the food and service are both excellent. Highly recommended - thank you very much. We had a lovely time.

The meet was nice and tender, but the curries were otherwise quite expensive and incredibly oily.

We visited the place based on reviews and we were even surprised by the hospitality of the place. The waiter offered his help to choose the right food (personalization), explained the differences between curries, asked which style we would like to eat (indian or british) and the food was just amazing! He also shared information about the place and food, talked about Pakistan and Indian kitchen and was so nice. We thought we got much more than a great dinner. We got culture as well. The best value for money food we had in the UK.

Tucked away between the Britannia and Royal Standard pubs in Headington, this restaurant is easy to miss, but well worth seeking out. With a hotel attached, it offers a cosy and inviting atmosphere. We opted for a two-course meal, and overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. My main dish was a bit salty for my taste—I tend to prefer very unsalted food—but it was still delicious and well-prepared. Everything else was spot on, from the starters to the sides. The beer selection could use a bit of improvement, though with two pubs just next door, that's not a big drawback. The service stood out, with our waiter being friendly, attentive, and never overbearing. All in all, we left satisfied and would happily return for another meal.

My sister and I had an amazing home cooked Sunday lunch at the Chequers last weekend. It was fresh, hot, plentiful and great value for money. The pin was quiet when we walked in but we recurve such a warm welcome we thought we’d stay. Everything was excellent. If you’re looking for a proper pub and a home cooked roast then look no further. We’ll definitely be going back.
