We had been on a walk nearby and wanted a coffee and cake (well deserved) 4 of us, no booking. Great Covid measures in place. But the star of the show was the cakes (all of them) Lemon cake was so fluffy and yummy, date and walnut slice Is possibly the best I’ve ever eaten and our friends had a Bakewell and Victoria sponge. Safe to say nothing was left & we asked who made them and it was the lovely lady in the kitchen who makes all the cakes! Definitely will stop by again for some cake! Side note coffee wasn’t the best but it really doesn’t matter as the cakes and friendly service make up for it.

Really disappointing experience. After walking decided to stop for tea and cake. Outside looked inviting however once inside was dated and dirty looking. The cakes looked homemade and nice until you receive it and it has been microwaved! Which can only mean it is old and trying to make it taste fresh. I asked for a replacement scone which hadn’t been microwaved and then got filthy looks. Definitely wouldn’t recommend it was expensive and not pleasant.

Pros: *took us in on a very wet wild day after a very long walk with kids and dog *Staff friendly and welcoming *Location fabulous *Cakes looked lovely Cons: *Cafe looking a little dated *Food quality is quite poor - burgers felt very economy * Food is Overpriced - we ordered 3 x burgers, jacket potato, 2 x teas and 2 cans - this cost us £36 *Did not apply eat out to help out discount - we came on Tuesday This feels to me like a business in trouble, where they are making cuts with quality of food, trying to scrape profit from selling small cans of fizzy drinks for £2.25 each.. this tends to be counterintuitive though as it stops repeat business. The staff where lovely so it is a shame, but we did begrudge paying such a large amount for such poor quality food. We would not recommend the hot food. Our advice would be to drop the prices of the food, or improve the quality of the food.

Me and my girlfriend fancied lunch after our big walk. We looked in a few places but they were either too busy or too expensive. We stumbled upon this place and were happy we did. We both had a cheese burger and chips which was lovely and fresh. The best part was the staff. Really welcoming and friendly, I find it very important to feel comfortable and welcome when I eat in somewhere, and I was made to feel like I was in a friends home. Will definitely return after another walk soon. Also a man was there who had travelled from Wigan for some scones, he quoted ‘ they’re the best I’ve ever had ‘. The girl told me she bakes everything her self, the cakes and scones etc. Worth a try next time !

Supposedly homemade ice cream. Really claggy and a powdery texture. Oddly not very cold either. After we had purchased ours we noticed that two other customers had left their nearly full cones on the table. At £5.75 for 3 scoops of “ice cream” this was daylight robbery. We won’t be back.

Went in with the family and ordered 3 coffees and 2 cups of tea. The young waitress brought them out after 20 minutes and brought 5 cups of tea. I politely told her that we had ordered 3 coffees and 2 teas. She apologised and went back (I presumed to correct the order). An older very aggressive lady who I think must be the manager or the owner of the cafe came over and was adamant we had ordered 5 teas. I tried to diffuse the situation because she was clearly getting upset and I apologised and said I ordered 3 coffees and 2 teas. At this point the other customers looked in astonishment has the woman was waving a menu at me. She grabbed the sugar pot off the table and went away. After ten minutes or so she came back out with 3 coffees and slammed them down on the table so hard that most of the content was on the table. I asked for a cloth because we had a baby with us (coffee was hot on the table) and she replied would you like me to drink your coffee too. I laughed because I thought this was some sort of joke.. and she screamed that I was making fun of her. I wiped the table myself with some toilet roll that I had to get from the toilet (no napkins). We did not drink those drinks and went to pay. The young waitress was apologetic has she had seen we had not drank our drinks. The older aggressive lady came and told us the price for the 5 drinks was a total of £17.50. I asked if she had made a mistake surely £3.50 for each was incorrect especially the teas that were half full. She said she had charged me correctly and demanded payment. I told her that her customer service skills were disgraceful and I had never been into a cafe so shambolic in my life. At this point she screamed at me and told me to get out of her cafe. My child at this point was crying and she told me to shut my child up. I have never felt so embarrassed in my life over such an incident. Unfortunately this has truly ruined my experience of such a lovely town. People of Ingleton if you read this.. you should make sure the brown haired lady manageress/owner never works with the general public again. Absolute disgrace to society. You have been warned do not go in.

My coffee was in a cup smaller than the milk jug and I had finished my coffee by the time the cake arrived. When we came to pay the bill , the older woman charged us £13 plus! When we queried it we found she had charged us for the milk for the Americano £2.95 (the price of a glass I presume). The final bill was £11 plus. When I asked the price of the scone she said “£2.75 but there is cheese in it” Don’t know where they get their dairy products from! The older woman needs to learn some social skills.Rip off, not pleasant, spoiled the day after lovely waterfall walk. We were attracted by the welcoming signs outside and it is the first place we got to from the main car park. Inside its another story. The carpet is really gross (how can a place that serves food have a thick, grungy carpet??) The staff are unprofessional and not very welcoming. They are not actively hostile, they just probably have no idea what professional and friendly service is like. The food is at the basic end of acceptable. The main problem is we waited well over half an hour for our (very simple) food even though we were the first people to order for lunch so goodness how long the people who came in after had to wait. Absolutely no word of apology from the staff. Also, while the signs outside advertise gluten free food, it turned out this mostly meant the staff telling us which things had gluten and which didn't. After this long conversation, when the person who asked about gluten asked to check that the bread on her plate was indeed gluten free, it turned out they had forgotten and given her normal bread. Of course not a word of apology but the bread was eventually replaced by a gluten free roll. Oh, and quite a few things on the menu chalkboard weren't available because "I havent changed it yet". Its truly amazing this place is still in business, but i guess it survives because most people walk in from the car park and they don't need return business.

I do try to be positive when I leave feedback on places visited however on this occasion I must say we were sadly disappointed. Our order was given for a cream tea and a filter coffee, the tea and coffee appeared quite quickly however the scone , jam and cream was a elusive to say the least. After one cup of tea my wife enquired as to it's whereabouts to be told it was on its way, after half the second cup was drunk it duly arrived. Sad to say but it was dry, cold in the middle had either been kept In a fridge or frozen and defrosted but it was not a good experience. Sorry.

This is one of the first places that you encounter as you drive into the downtown part of the village of Ingleton, off the main highway. Just before you get to the tea-room, there is a side-road that leads to pay-and-display parking at the community center (on the right, uphill). Street parking here is quite limited, so we don’t recommend parking on the street.

I wouldn't normally write a TripAdvisor review as the majority of things on here are equally well placed on the inside of a toilet cubicle, however for this place there really was no other option.Had it not been for the constant roasting we gave this establishment during our (particularly lengthy) visit, it would have been extremely dull and could be likened to sitting in traffic. For this reason, if you must go, I do not recommend visiting alone. For conciseness I will list the issues we encountered. > Our food took forever to arrive. We were told half an hour however it was at least double that before some distinctly average food began to rock up.> Drinks took forever, maybe because they brought one glass out at a time. > They tried to serve my pulled pork sandwich to the table across from us, then brought it back to us reheated half an hour later.> I'd finished eating by the time any other food for my companions made an appearance, or the sauce for my chips. > A member of our party ordered a bacon sandwich, it arrived with an egg and 'was it okay to leave it because I know you didn't order one but I put it on anyway' - err no?!> Another member was told they had run out of soup after everyone else had (eventually) been given their food. > There was no apology or appreciation for the dire service when we paid. > There was a crying child. Not really the place's fault but not very desirable all the same. Should there be no other place open in Ingleton, I recommend consuming your own body fat or munching on a pile of sand. Both options would yield consumable energy at a faster rate than the staff at Emma's.On a side note, if you are after a fairly nasty looking 'wall table' for some forgotten cousin they have such a number for sale, a snip at £25.

Have eaten here on several occasions in the last three months and have NEVER found the staff to be rude or unhelpful, nor have I known them to ignore customer requests to leave items out of an order. I found the atmosphere to be friendly, the food to be of good quality and the prices reasonable for an establishment in a tourist area. The bacon and brie bap with (homemade cranberry sauce) is the best bacon sandwich I have had in my 60 years of living, Sunday lunch is also very good, desserts are also tasty with many home made cakes on offer. We were wanting a place to grab a sandwich and a drink, my friend suggested this cafe as having been before. My first visit however will probably be my last. The prices seemed expensive for the quantity/quality of the menu. The staff were polite however I had asked to not include an ingredient in the salad/sandwich and my order still came with an abundance of it, so it seemed they hadn’t listened. For a ham sandwich to cost £7, and include barely any ham, wasn’t very good.I’d recommend looking further into town for a cafe, or for the same price you pay, a restaurant.

12 quid for tea and cake well overpriced for a tea shop which has seen better days. It could do with a major overhaul and cleanup plus get rid of all the old tat described as crafts. The staff though we're really friendly and the tea and cake was nice but I felt I was in gods waiting room so I don't think il be going back

Called in with my mum for a spot of lunch. Expected a lot more from our visit. The staff were friendly with the locals. The food was very poor we had jacket potato with cheese and beans and pulled pork from the specials board, tea and a coffee the bill came to over £17 The amount in the sandwich was that little I could not taste it and felt like I may as well just had bread it had a small spoon of coleslaw with it and a handful of chips this was over £7 not worth half that amount. The beans of the potato had no sauce on at all they were dried up. This was £6. The cakes were sat on the side on normal plates covered with cling film not at all appealing and prices were ridiculous. The view could have been lovely but the windows were that filthy you could not see through them. Really needs bringing up to date and maybe back ground music so you can't hear the staff moaning and the microwave pinging

It was okay, nothing to shout about. The service wasn't great, we waited 25 minutes for our table to be cleared after we finished eating. The staff seemed very friendly with the people they knew from the local area though.

After a walk around the village we found this nice quaint ' Tea Room' at the top of the hill. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The shop appears to be frequented by seniors from the local community, as there were a few comings and going whilst we were there having coffee and lovely home made cake. They also advertise Gluten free cakes. They pride themselves on their history and continue to purchase coffee from London, something the founder did when he first opened the first coffee shop in Kendal.( according to a history sheet In the tea room) There are a small number of crafts, cards and and other goods available to purchase, but the tea room appears to be the main business! An enjoyable visit whereupon leaving, we were thanked for our custom.

+ service and staff could not have been friendlier & warmer. + they were brilliant with our children.+ steak pie was rich and thick and pastry had a lovely crisp.+ good value; £22 per couple inc baby meal and drinks.+ 2 hrs' disk parking out front - no high chairs.- too much butter on sandwiches. Crisps were less than inspirational which came with sandwiches. - rations of ketchup & mustard were not very generous.

It was very quiet when we visited in Nov 2015, the only noise being the pinging of the microwave as our food was prepared. The tea was good, however the scrambled egg on toast and bacon roll were both over cooked ,(and over priced). The quality was not what we expected, which is a shame as the decor promises a quaint English tea room. In summary, 'Bettys' prices, 'pound shop' quality.

We initially visited this establishment 12 months ago and was so impressed that we made this our first port of call during our recent visit back to the area. The cafe is quite spacious and although the menu is somewhat limited the food on offer is wholesome and flavoursome. The walls of the cafe are adorned with prints, paintings and photographs of the local geographic features, all of which are for sale. I am surprised to note the range of reviews on this site as, on our rare visits, we have found the staff welcoming and friendly. They do not hassle customers on arrival and give them the opportunity to study the menu before taking the order. The food is freshly prepared and is well presented. I certainly cannot say anything negative about our visits and have witnessed the cafe being frequented by a number of locals.

Looking for somewhere to eat on a bank holiday Sunday - elsewhere in the area were full so we were happy when we entered to find a few customers waiting for ice cream and all but one table free, so we sat down pleased with finding somewhere available I mentioned to my partner about it being so quiet on a sunday and joked if it was due to the quality of the place. We ordered a tuna sandwich, and a wensleydale cheese sandwich, a toasted tea cake without butter and a cheese scone. We were told there were no cheese scones so happily settled on a fruit one.I was looking forward to a nice granary sandwich which at around £6.40 should have been worth the wait. When it arrived it was averagely presented on a plate with salad and crisps, and appeared to be a brown roll out of a 6 pack from the local supermarket. The tuna was fine but not exactly enough to call filling. My partner opened her "Wensleydale" sandwich to find it was in fact Cheddar. After I had finished mine, and my partner half way through her Wensleydale / Cheddar affair, the waitress arrived with the teacake for one of our girls, which was covered in melted butter. We sent it back saying we ordered it with no butter. A few minutes later the scone arrived for our other girl, which was fine.I mentioned to the older lady who I assume was the owner that our Wensleydale was in fact Cheddar, and straight away she went on the defensive saying that they had run out, but we should have been informed and did she want us to make a fresh one? (I'm not sure what this was about - a fresh cheddar one or was she going to nip to the co-op in town and get some wensleydale??) We declined her offer, and she gave me some more coffee free, and another lemonade to make up - although when we paid the bill I think these may not have been free after all.We were going to stop for dessert but quickly made our exit and went for ice creams in town. All in all a very disappointing experience, and I think our assumption of why it may have been not very busy were in fact correct.I think this place needs to take a good look at itself and take heed of the reviews on here, and listen to their customers.

We have visted these premises many, many times in past. We were in the area for the day and decided to make a return visit. How things have changed. The menu has gone very expensive for what you get. I could hear the staff discussing who was going to do our two toasted teacakes, then we waited a long time them to arrive. This wiĺl be the last time we visit here.

since i was last here some of the young friendly part time staff seem to have been laid off, and the family members who seem to run and dominate the place can be off-hand and rude. i don't think the freshness of the baked goods is all that it could be, and the prices are high for what they offer. As a lot of the cafes, bars and restaurants in Ingleton have upped their game since my last visit, the Curlew really needs to do the same. having staff serving mediocre over-priced food slowly and graciously is not a good way to encourage return visits.

I had a ham sandwich with salad and crisps and a glass of sparkling water which came to £8.00. The bun was not very fresh and the service very slow despite the fact there were not many people in the cafe. It's very disappointing as it is the first cafe that people come across once they have parked their cars at the Community Centre. They seriously need to review their cafe as it should be a lot busier than it is.

topped off for breakfast pre walk up Ingleborough, lovely cup of coffee, black americano, with great depth of flavour. Decor very good, especially the old photos of local mountains and caves etc. Toilets clean and well stocked. Both staff members chatty and friendly with us and the other customers. It was quiet, around 09.00am on a Saturday.

We completed the Ingleton Waterfall Trail yesterday which was great and very hard walking so we're in need of some good food on arriving in the village. Unfortunately we decided on the Curlew tea rooms. We ordered the steak pie with chips and peas. While waiting we started to worry as we could hear lots of pinging and microwave door shutting and our fears were realised when the meal arrived, soggy pastry and crozzled meat not what we hoped for. Both myself and my husband ate less than half and left paying on the way out. Having read the previous reviews I'm glad we didn't make an issue as it sounds like the hosts are not very nice if you dare to complain. A disappointing end to a lovely walk. We ended up in the cafe down in the trail car park for cake and coffee which was a delight.

Went into cafe to order two sandwiches and two cokes. This came to us after waiting 50 minutes. On paying the main lady, middle aged with dark brown hair charged just under £20 for these items of which I questioned, as on the menu it said the sandwiches were just under £4 each. The response I got was abrupt and aggressive, as she shouted at me calling me stupid and an idiot. She then threw a menu at me in front of other paying customers. I paid because I wanted to leave and get out of the cafe away from the twisted strange woman. I was then met by a young male, with a big ego who was also aggressive squaring up to me and told me to pay up and get out. I said I had paid and explained the situation to which he and the woman replied get out of this cafe and don't come back ever again. This wouldn't be possible because I would never return to such robbing, Ill mannered, unwelcome, aggressive staff members. My advice would be to go to another cafe in the lovely village and do not try this one as you will be disappointed and probably get a menu thrown at you like I did. Worst cafe ever visited in Engkand ever!!!

Visited for a light lunch of 2 sandwiches of which came to an extortionate amount of 20 pound with a 45 min wait. when questioning the bill got told we were wrong and stupid, the main lady running the place got very aggressive and told us she had family issue and couldnt deal with us and threw a menu at myself infront of everyone then asked us to leave. Upon leaving a very aggressive young male member of staff came over and started shouting and telling us we needed to pay which we already had done so. He then raised his fists in my face so we exited embarrassed and skinted for a very basic meal would never ever recommend to anyone EVER!!

I'm not sure how to describe this place - restaurant, café or tearoom - but it is typical of good Yorkshire hospitality. The food is excellent and, despite what some other reviewers have said, we have always found it good value for money. The cakes are worthy of special mention - if you have a sweet tooth you'll find something here to enjoy. Run by two sisters who try really hard to please, it's a place to relax, refresh and enjoy in an unhurried atmosphere.

We come here time and again when staying locally. My husband rates Emma's tiffin as the best ever. Today I sampled her sticky toffee pudding. It was amazing. We feel like old friends and the service and welcome could not be better. All food is home cooked and freshly prepared and is reasonable in price. We have recommended the cafe to all our friends. They also sell brilliant cards and prints.

We were lookng for a snack in Ingleton, after completing a walk round the falls, when we came across this establishment. The owner/lady in charge came to take our order, and we ordered a pot of tea for three, a scone and butter, and my wife wanted a cheese scone. I refrained from ordering any food, as I didn't find anything I really wanted on the menu. After a couple of minutes, we were told that they didn't have any cheese scones, so my wife settled for garlic bread with cheese (priced at £4.75).I would say that the person in charge could do with improving her customer skills, but the other staff were OK.The pot of tea for three was only enough for one cup each, and no hot water was provided to top up the pot with. The scone was of very poor quality, and only one small portion of butter was provided, that was only sufficient to butter half the scone. The garlic bread was a toasted bread cake, and was of adequate quality, but very expensive at £4.75. Overall, a poor experience, definitely a place to avoid.Paying the bill was a bit slow, and we didn't receive an itemised bill, as a previous reviewer had experienced..Ironically, as we left the premises, we spotted a tray with cheese scones on it, but never commented. This cafe is definitely an example of "you don't get what you pay for". Our bill was round about £11.50, I can't remember the exact amount.

My parents, brother, partners and children visited these tea rooms whilst on a visit to Ingleton, from the outside the tea rooms looked appealing and welcoming although quiet. When entering the tea rooms we were greeted by an empty space with half of the room in darkness and one other customer present. My brother proceeded to turn on the lights to then be told sternly by who appeared to be the manageress "I was going to do that". Once rescued from the darkness we were greeted by lots of hanging pictures, presumably by local artists, but perhaps more interestingly a number of passive aggressive signs... 'Water - 50p service charge; Hot Water - £1 service charge; Toilets - Outside, please do not flush paper towels' i could go on...Shortly after being seated the manageress (and i use that term loosely, you will understand why soon) came over to take our order. It was quickly apparent that the 'manageress' possessed few customer service skills or even basic manners. She took our order very slowly after asking each of us to repeat ourselves. This may be assuming of me but i got the impression straightaway that she did not care for us very much, not wanting to make a fuss i kept this opinion to myself. We ordered a number of coffees, teas, scones, cakes, orange squash, a portion of chips and a cheese sandwich for a 18 month old baby. When the order arrived the two older children were presented with fresh orange juice (not a big deal and easily resolved) the baby was presented with a Wensleydale sandwich, side salad and a portion of crisps. When commenting on the two fresh orange juices, explaining that we had ordered squash we were quickly advised rudely that we hadn't and my suspicions of our custom not being wanted confirmed, although by this point the tea rooms were empty aside from another couple. The manageress reluctantly agreed to replace the drinks in line with our original order.Once we had finished our food and drinks my mother went up to settle the bill, to be welcomed again by our host jabbing what appeared to be random numbers into the till, with no itemised bill provided. When my mother queried the cost of the baby's wensleydale, salad and crisp meal the manageress explained that "i think you will find it costs that much anywhere" and "I'd be willing to pay that for my grandchildren" my mother was quite rightly shocked and insulted. I heard this (as did the couple) from the seating area, my mother returned after paying the £40 bill and wanted to leave quickly. On our exit we heard the manageress screech to her much more pleasant, younger staff "get over here and clean this up, these kids have left crumbs everywhere". I bit my tongue and thought better of making any more of a scene than had already been made. Once outside we began putting the baby in the pushchair, looking over my shoulder i saw the manageress storming towards me. By this point some customers were standing outside the tea rooms, the manageress raised the Wensleydale sandwich debate again, advising my mother in no uncertain terms that's the going rate for a babys cheese sandwich and that he two older children had eaten it too and she'd seen them with her own eyes. Eventually once the manageress was happy that she had explained why she was reasonable and my mother was not she left and returned to her few no doubt astounded customers. I've heard of places in London that are renowned for their abusive and rude staff which people visit solely for that reason. I am not aware that this was one of those establishments, however should the manageress fancy a move down south i'm sure she would be hot property. An overall shocking visit but it did provide some laughs for us once we had time to take it all in, so thanks for that!
