Stopped off for coffee in the new Arcobaleno cafe, formally Crumbs and Cream. It was really good coffee and very friendly owner. I will go again.

Nice cake and hot chocolate but the cigarette smell a bit distracting. Doesn’t smell like fresh cigarettes, more like stale old smoke that’s stuck in the carpet/furniture.

My experience seems to have been at odds with other, recent, reviewers. On entering, we were warned there was a bit of a delay for food. Not a problem, so we ordered drinks and food, when the drinks were delivered. Ok, so there was a wait (and slightly longer than told) but we both concluded it was worth it. Two excellent pasta dishes, a pesto and an arribiata. Really nice tea and coffee too. We have regularly been here, over the years, and hadn't ever had a bad experience. This was no exception.

This cafe serves good food. I can recommend the jacket potatoes. You get 2 smaller ones rather than 1 huge potato, which I prefer. The tuna mato topping is delicious. We sat outside, and it was noisy due to the buses (I suggest sitting inside). I'd definitely go back.

We visited this cafe for breakfast. On the menu it states full English breakfast tea and coffee. When we went to pay we were told the tea and coffee are extra, why mention it with the breakfast then. When our breakfast arrived, it was the worst breakfast we have ever had. The sausages were not edible, the eggs were all crispy and the toast resembled a slice of bread, and to top it all the tea was disgusting, I couldn’t even drink it. Twenty pounds badly spent, I wouldn’t recommend anyone else wastes their money in this cafe.

Myself and a friend decided to try this little café and what a awful time we had 😰 the little cakes in the front window had ants all over and were mostly melted but as it was a warm day it might have been a coincidence but after walking into the cafe we saw more ants on the floor and counter where the till was. We felt rude walking out so we ordered two hot drinks and a sandwich and cake (that was in the display case) my god what a regret that was. For two drinks one sandwich and one bit of cake came to nearly £30. The bread of the sandwich was stale and there was barely any filling in it. The cake must have been sitting there for days as the icing was rock hard just like the sponge. Our drinks were luke warm and the oat milk tasted off. When we left and mentioned our issues the lady at the counter said the cake was from a few days ago and the bread was fresh that day and it wasn’t her issue. She had à very strong cigarette smell to her and we decided to just leave. A nice catch up lunch with a friend turned into a disaster 🥲 Im not one to put up reviews but after our visit i wouldn’t want anybody else to waste their money here… if you are reading this save your money and go to someplace cleaner and better😞

We decided to return to this cafe , which used to be crumbs and creams but has since had a makeover. The owners are still the same apparently, but they obviously listened to previous feedback because the whole place has had a much needed makeover! New carpets, freshly painted and new seat coverings plus they have got rid of the artificial flowers and opted for paintings and mirrors instead make the whole place much cleaner and more inviting. Menu is much the same as before- delicious homemade cakes and pastries but a few new dishes on the menu and I understand they will also be opening evenings soon ? but it is a shame that the pretty China has been replaced by a plain corporate design… Service was a little slow considering we were only one of 2 customers in at the time , but food was good, freshly cooked and served with a smile. There is now a little table and chair outside which is nice. If you had previously enjoyed crumbs and creams then certainly worth a return visit !

We decided to try this cafe for lunch since it has recently been done up. It was quite quiet, the food was nice as was the coffee. However, at a certain point we started smelling cigarette smoke which was coming into the first floor cafe area where we were sat. It was very strong and very off putting, so we decided not to stay much longer. When we told the staff nicely so that they could think about it to avoid future complaints, they were very dismissive and said that it wasn’t their fault, first telling us it might coming up from them smoking out the back, then that it was coming from the staff area on the second floor and finally claiming it was the coming through the window from the other businesses behind and they had no control over that so couldn’t do anything to change it! This attitude was poor and disappointing. I have never had to leave a cafe because of cigarette smoke, it was so strong and and affected my breathing. I will not be returning.

Just refurbished and now named Arcobaleno (Rainbow in Italian). And what a beautiful, fresh, vibrant change. Rebecca the manager, is a very welcoming friendly host and her team are a credit to her (a mini Milan). Chris is the chef, Emily the coffee connoisseur, Kiera the pancake queen, and Sarah is the cog which holds everything together. Found, tucked away half way down South Street, opposite the Grape Tree. Their new social media is already setup up so please find them on Instagram and follow them there under their new name. Why am I so happy to have found this place? My wife is disabled, and as soon as we walked through the door the staff where setting out a table suitable for us. Excellent service before we even sat down and it got better and better. Let's support our local small businesses.

We also used to be regulars when Sue owned the cafe, it was sold in the pandemic and has gone downhill, we didn’t want to touch the handrail, the stair treads were filthy the bay window upstairs, surround was full of crumbs and black dirt with little flys and spiders, the carpet was disgusting, the serving counter was dirty and the trays the food was delivered on were also very dirty. We should have turned around and walked out but we stayed, tables were dirty, I heard a server saying that she was fed up with going up and down the stairs. When paying I asked what on earth had happed to the place and listed the issues to be told that they were having a total refurb and new carpet in January and I said that’s great but you need to clean in between as that’s not an excuse not to and was the hoover working as goodness knows the carpet needed a Hoover. Surely the new owner would want to have a thriving business at this rate there will be no customers, there’s a lot of competition in Chichester, it used to be charming. We won’t be going back, refurb or not as one wonders if it will be cleaned even when this takes place, I think environmental health should inspect it.

We used to be regular visitors to this cafe , before the pandemic so haven’t be3n in for a while. What a difference a year makes-and not for the better. Cafe was very dirty-carpets filthy and covered in crumbs and dirt. A vacuum cleaner and cleaning materials sat unused by a table. 3 staff downstairs chatting - we were the only customers yet still had to go back downstairs to place order. Food terrible- scrambled egg obviously done in a microwave and very rubbery. Very tiny slice of cake for the price. It’s such a shame to see this once lovely cafe gone so far down in cleanliness , service and quality. I would have thought the fact that a rival cafe has opened right next door, would have encouraged them to spruce the place up a bit but sadly not. I hope the owners take note of these reviews and take action before it’s too late to save this once lovely place …

Not been to Chichester for a while but was with a friend and decided to have lunch here. How wrong we were to choose this cafe. Waited downstairs to be "greeted" by a miserable girl who obviously didn't want to be there, we were told to sit upstairs and take a menu, which we were very reluctant to do as they were sticky and dirty!! Not sure when they were last cleaned!! Arriving upstairs not wanting to touch the handrail we couldn't believe the state of the carpet, God knows when it was last hoovered!! We decided to order a bacon, brie and cranberry panini. Whilst my friend was ordering a young girl bought some food to the next table. Certainly not service with a smile!! I heard the lady say to her friend how awful it looked and just cheap bread. Another table of three left leaving most of their food. One lady saying how salty the "crisps" were!! Our food arrived, at least our waitress spoke!! First impressions were the fat of the bacon hanging out of the panini, one measly piece of brie and barely any cranberry sauce!! It was dire and the worst panini I've ever had. My friend bit into hers and said the bacon tasted funny. I thought I'd give the "crisps" a go and wow the other lady wasn't wrong!! God knows what flavour they were but definitely very salty. By this point my friend and I couldn't face any more, not that we barely touched it so we decided to leave. On going downstairs we said to the girl behind the counter that we were sorry but we couldn't eat the food as it was awful!! I think we got a shrug as if she couldn't care less!! All in all it was an awful experience and one we won't be repeating. Hopefully other people won't either. Save your money and spend it in another cafe where it is clean, food good and a warm welcome.

We went here for the first time for a snack late morning. It looks so pretty from the outside, but unfortunately we were very disappointed with the interior. We were shocked at the dirty carpets and wood on the bottom of balustrades that were covered in dust and muck. The bannister was also grubby. One of the staff members used the toilet just before me. I couldn't believe how filthy it was in there. The toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a very long time and there was dirt, dust and grime all over the back of the sink. The sink definitely hadn't been used for a while before I went in there, and there were no used paper towels for drying hands in the waste bin when I put mine in there, so I wonder if the staff member actually washed her hands! There are plenty of lovely places to stop for a coffee and a bite to eat in Chichester and this experience has definitely meant wouldn't want to revisit here in a hurry.

Visited this week and service was rubbish, all staff members were downstairs gossiping behind the till and all customers were upstairs. Tables were sticky, sides were dusty and the floor was filthy. My family popped in for an afternoon drink and cake. I had tea and cake whilst my family had milkshakes and wife had a scone with strawberry jam. When we ordered we explained that my daughter had an allergy to strawberries so were disappointed when her chocolate milkshake came with a strawberry on it. The person who delivered the food (not the same as who took our order) reluctantly offered to make another one and said we should have told them about an allergy when we ordered – which we had. My cake was dry and sweet without a lot of favour and both of the milkshakes had an artificial taste to them. For readers of a certain age they tasted like Crusha milkshake mix. The ice cream that was added to them was not blended and just sat as a blob at the bottom of the glass. All in all a poor experience

We've been here a few times & service has been much better. It's not a cheap place for a spot of breakfast or fairly small cup of coffee - but usually it does better than this. My wife had scrambled samon & egg on toast; the samon looked slightly past it's best. I had the special breakfast, waitress asked if we wanted any sauces - which we did, unfortunatly this was also the last time we saw her or any other waitress for some time - so no sauce. When I went to eat my toast it was burnt black & had been turned over so I'd not see it. When we went to settle our £17 something bill I made a point of telling the older woman at the till - expecting that perhaps she might do something - but she said she'd tell Sue (or someone). I have recommended this place to lots of people on social media, because I think it's important to support small independant cafes - our expectation was better service & better food. Disapointed!

The two women working were so miserable. We ordered quite a lot, including two children’s meals which quite clearly stated came with orange or apple juice plus a donut. We were not offered these drinks so I asked when the one woman came back up to take someone else’s order. She looked at me like I had suggested something ridiculous. We eventually got the kids drinks and donuts much to the dismay of the waitress or owner - who knows but if you don’t like working with the public I suggest you find another career path. Popped in here a few months back for coffee and sandwiches, beautiful gluten free bread which they told us was baked elsewhere. So decided to call in again for a late lunch the other day. Place was desserted 2.30pm Friday afternoon. Ordered a gluten free sandwich,no gluten free bread! Ordered a jacket potato my companion is dairy free, waitress really didn't understand that dairy is in many products and most of the jacket potato fillings had dairy products. Waitress agreed to sell us a plain jacket potato nothing else didn't want salad for £3.00. Jacket potato arrived with a few salad leaves with a huge spoonful of colslaw on top, my companion and I just rolled our eyes. To be fair the jacket was a nice fluffy potato but when you explain an allergy to dairy why is a product that contains dairy put on your plate? Went to pay the bill and suddenly the £3.00 potato had gone up by £1.50 because it had a salad dressing, bearing in mind this was declined and the salad was slathered in coleslaw which is not dairy free and couldn't be eaten. We were disappointed with this visit. Why are waiting staff not given training about food allergies? We asked the waitress what was in some of the jacket fillings to be told, I don't know we buy it in! Couldn't be bothered to find out! Needless to say we won't be back because the waitress told us we should have gone to a place further up the high street that did vegi and vegan food... Those are diet choices!!! Says it all really.

A Very nice cup of tea in a very nice bone china cup (almost new) unlike some places that have chips and cracks. The Scone was not one correctly pronounced haha, but Was fresh and had no need of nuclear resuscitation like some so called tea rooms. The staff were also delightful. An extremely pleasant experience.

What a lovely find not the usual chain restaurant that Chichester is full of. Friendly staff on arrival, Fantastic cream tea with bone china crockery. The tea tasted so much better in a bone china cup. Well worth a visit next time we will have the rarebit and paninis. Value for money lovely little find.

I went in to Crumbs and Creams on Sunday the 1st of October for lunch with my parents. I was surprised that it wasn't as busy and we managed to get the best seats in the house - upstairs by the window. I must say I was disappointed in the state of the décor. The chandelier was crooked ( not the worst thing it happens) But not only that there were large stains on the chairs, the fabric was loose fitting and coming off them and some of the chair legs had seen better days and are probably a slight safety hazard. Not only this lots of the tables were filthy. The waitress when asked to just wipe it over for us, didn't hesitate in showing her annoyance for no cloths. Apparently they had not been ordered in time so they had to use the hand drying roll from the toilet. She simple wiped it over with water. There was no sanitizer. Another risk for the café I am sure. I love this place, the food and the staff have always been friendly. But this time I felt it fell short for service and atmosphere. It doesn't take much to go to Poundland and just buy some cloths to tide you over and keep just as a precaution. If you were happy to explain that gruffily to customers, then it obviously bothered you enough to take action? Anyway if you want lunch like I said before - paninis etc do try it here because it is wonderful. But right now there are improvements that could be made.

We stopped here for lunch: paninis and coffee. Even though we're in our early 60s this is the sort of place our mothers would like, need I say more.

Spend about 5 or 6 minutes watching the only lady working there making a woman sandwich for her. No rush whatsoever and it was 1.30 on a weekday lunchtime. Finally when she served me, no apology whatsoever for the horrendous wait. I bought some bread pudding. Absolutely tasteless. Inedible.

Judging by a few of the other reviews, there's a definite timing issue at this place. My lunch took more than 20 mins to arrive...if you're primarily a cafe serving lunches - surely you'd get this sorted! Now to the food...I ordered chilli and what I got was bland mince with baked beans in it. NOT chilli!! If I order chilli, I expect some spicy heat - why do cafes keep their chilli bland?! If you don't like spicy chilli don't order it!! Chilli traditionally has kidney beans in it...I can forgive baked beans if the dish has a reasonable flavour, but not otherwise! You need to do better than this...for the sake of your business and your customers!

An ideal place to grab a sandwich, panini, coffee, HOT CHOCOLATE or whatever when your rushing around(its nOT a Costas) OR...pop upstairs, take a table and get served - Front window overlooking South Street has to be the premier spot to people watch or one of the others to have a chat- papers available as is a glass of water if needed - lovely family established place.... its good to support 'local' trade....enjoy

We went to this cafe for a late lunch. It wasn't very busy but at 2pm we didn't expect it to be. We ordered two coffees and two toasted sandwiches. We were given the coffees after about 10 minutes but were not told there would be any delay with our sandwiches. After waiting half an hour I asked how much longer our lunch would be. I was told they were ready and she would bring them back. After another 10 minutes we finally were served our lunch. No apology was offered. The sandwich was delicious however the wait and the lack of apology spoiled the whole lunch experience. A word of apology for the long delay would have been appreciated.

The best Café in town by far. If you want a proper lunch and you aren't sure where to go. Here they offer all you could want for a lunchtime and a tasty bakery to. I go in there all the time and it is reasonable for what you get. I recommend the chicken, sweetcorn and mayonnaise panini and the sausages and mash. You get so much sausages and mash for £6. So tasty with onion gravy. The one thing I will say is that it is a very small café. If you don't get in at the right time, all the spaces may be taken. They do offer a take out option so that could be beneficial. I wish they would open a bigger café! Because it would really be worth it in Chichester!

A friend and I were in need of a cuppa whilst walking around Chichester shopping, almost walked past this tea shop!It is small inside with seating both downstairs and up.The seating area was clean and comfortable, the staff very friendly. The menu is small but caters for breakfast, brunch and lunch at a very reasonable price. We ordered a teacake each and a pot of tea for two. The food came quite quickly, but the waitress had to be reminded about our tea. After a profuse apology, a fresh tea arrived. The tea was in a lovely china pot with cups and saucers to match. I was impressed at the size of the pot ( been to many 'cafe' where the pot needs wringing out for the second cup!) with hot water for topping up. Looking at what other diners were eating, the food looked well presented and tasty. The bill was a pleasant surprise too!I would recommend this tea room, even though it may mean I have to queue next time I ned a cuppa!

Went during lunchtime so service a little on the slow side. When it came my Brie, bacon and cranberry baguette was tasty and so filling I did not have room for the cake I had promised myself. Cappuccino excellent. Staff very young but pleasant and efficient.

This place is always busy around lunchtime, hardly surprising given the value. Sadly, I have recently found that my clothes have smelt of smoke after I leave, which is unusual these days. I have also found the food to sometimes be undercooked, which can spoil things. Whilst I respect the concept, this place is a victim of it's own success, offering value that is head and shoulders above anywhere else of it's kind.
