Crown Chertsey in Runnymede

We waited aver 45 minutes, still no food so we upped and left. The place has really gone downhill, another local who will deffo not be going back! over priced for what it is offering too. Such a shame as it used to be great in there.

We had a lovely meal,but lacked a little atmosphere, also we did feel that we were shoved in a corner, and not really that well looked after. But, cannot fault the food.

Havent been there since Tony and Sian left...I was served by a bar tender who was very rude! No peoples skills felt like it was an effort for him to serve me. Complained to the manager Dave, he totally ignored my complaint and brushed it off, so unprofessional and again, another rude member of the crown staff, totally gone down hill, I won't be going there again!!!!

We are a group of friends that breakfast together every Sunday in different venues. The Crown at Chertsey was our latest and we were very pleased with the breakfast food and friendly staff. One slight negative is that the tea was not as hot as should be and therefore in the wide shaped (bistro style ) cups and ceramic tea pot it became cold quite quickly. We will definitely return though for another breakfast!

The food is pretty good with decent sized portions and average pricing, but the service lets this place down unfortunately. We were greeted to be told that there was a 45 minute wait for food (including starters) as they only had "one chef working and he is new" - it didn't ultimately take that long, but a poor first impression. Bottle of wine deposited on the table, unopened and no offer to pour anyone a glass. I don't recall anyone asking if everything was okay, although the food service and table clearance was positive. At 9.40pm two of the my friends (having finished eating at 9.30pm) decided to order desert, but we were told that the kitchen was shut! After a quick Google, it appears that you can book to eat here as late as 9.00pm, but the kitchen closes at 9.30pm. I would have expected the waiter to have advised of this, but they did not - meaning no desert and this pub missing out on more revenue.

We had our daughters christening reception here in their private function room, the service from the staff from start to finish was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble! The food was was delicious aswell and was the perfect amount for what we needed! Thank you to David, Simon and all the staff at the crown!!

We booked the Windsor Room at the Crown for an all-age get-together of the extended family. All our guests commented on how well we were looked after (especially by our barman George and the catering staff) and what a great venue it was, including high quality spacious bedrooms. The room was well laid out with tables in pristine white cloths and comfortable red plush chairs. The food was extremely good and in plentiful supply for people who had driven a long way to get there. We, as locals, walked home with our heads buzzing with the compliments, which we are more than happy to pass on to the Crown.

Thank you to everyone at the Crown in Chertsey for helping us organise and host our baby shower. Perfect function room upstairs, amazing food and really friendly staff.

Staff and food were on point- unfortunately the room wasn’t, dirty bathroom, uncomfortable bed- had to ask for clean bedding- coffee machine was rot so didn’t use it and signal on tele was awful! Please speak to your cleaners they are letting you down !

We arrived at 11.30 and asked if it would be possible to leave our bag and return to check in later (as we had a wedding to attend). The lady at reception just looked at us and said that wouldn’t be possible because they didn’t have space. This surely has to be a normal request from travellers?? When we returned to check in we had the most filthy room I have ever encountered. Dust everywhere, mould in the bathroom, a leaking sink and damaged bath. When I got in to bed I was horrified to find the sheets were wet! The runner on the bottom of the bed was damp for some reason which left the sheets underneath wet. We were too tired to deal with it so went to bed. The only saving grace of the hotel was the restaurant. Breakfast was actually really nice and the staff there were friendly and attentive but we will never return to such an unhygienic hotel

Probably one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed at. Customer service on front desk was terrible. Did not check how stay was or any issue. Room was dark and smelt of damp. I had a ground floor room which was next to the beer garden, which was very loud. 2nd morning there was no hot water for shower. Food was good although expensive

Great pub with very good food. Our hostess, Leigh/Lee made us feel very welcome and valued as customers. She also made us laugh with her comments and brilliant sense of humour. Definitely recommend a visit.

We meet at the crown twice a year as it is a central point for family. The food and service never disappoints, yet again we had a really good experience with no complaints

My elderly parents were visiting from Lincolnshire for the weekend and before driving them back we decided very last minute to have a Sunday roast. Living in Weybridge we checked all the local riverside spots to no avail. My partner works in a building opposite The Crown and frequents The Crown on many occasions when clients are visiting, staff birthdays etc, so suggested we try there. They had space at noon (not always a good sign) but we booked anyway. Realising we hadnt mentioned bringing the dog, and wanting to make it half hour later, I rang to double check. The young lady I spoke to was extremely polite and confirmed the changes (and that dogs were very welcome). Upon arrival we found our table but as it was such a nice day we asked if we could go outside. Again no problem at all. I dont know if the menu has changed since some of the previous reviews but we found it to be so good that the hardest part of the whole experience was choosing from the delicious meals on offer. It is not the cheapest food but it is worth every single penny. The staff were polite and attentive (but not intrusive). We were offered condiments, asked how our meals were and had several lovely conversations regarding our Viszla Monty, who's favourite snack is carrots. much to our delight our waiter appeared with a selection of cooked and raw carrots, compliments of the chef! This was a lovely touch. We were so impressed with the whole experience that I think we shall be making The Crown our favoured spot for Sunday lunch from now on. Thank you for going above and beyond and making our four legged friend so welcome 😍

We were meeting a family member and Chertsey was about halfway between us, so we chose the Crown to meet for Sunday lunch. What a find it was! We had an absolutely superb lunch; most of us had roasts which were beautifully cooked with a lovely selection of veg and a huge Yorkshire pud, and the side of cauliflower cheese was delicious. Service was excellent, a 40th party was being held on the same day but they had plenty of staff to cover everything. Only slight negative is that the ladies loos could do with a bit of love/revamp. If we find ourselves in Chertsey again we will definitely be back.

This is my favourite pub in Chertsey without a doubt!Staff are absolutely fantastic! With all the changes at the moment and covid restrictions I always feel safe at the Crown, tables are always clean, the app service is brilliant!! It is different without the live music on the weekend but the service and staff and atmosphere is still the same and perfect as ever. absolutely fuming. we are regulars in the crown and bring out small dog Ruby with us which Tony the owner liked, but got refused tonight because it might get busy. I went in and it wasn't, but our dog sits on our laps and if it was to much for her we would leave. for the Tony the owner to refuse when he has three massive dogs and supposedly dog friendly is a joke. not happy and absolutely disgusted with this. maybe they should advertise when it's ok for dogs to come in as its not fair to be when it suits.

As lovely as this place is the restaurant on Christmas day let it down, unfortunately I have allergies and twice I was given a meal that I shouldn't have been given, which left me paranoid about what I could or couldn't eat so my Christmas day meal was ruined and I went home hungry. When you pay good money you expect to receive good service. Allergies can be dangerous and I could have been seriously ill. Feeling very disappointed.

The Crown is a rare gem in Chertsey. It has a real old style country pub atmosphere and caters to a wide variety of people. It tends to be more up market with prices to match, but the service is excellent and the food quality is top notch. Not stayed in the rooms at the hotel but heard they are superior to most in the area (but obviously more expensive).

Had two celebration meals at this venue this year 50th birthday and 20th year work celebration food good , always busy atmosphere and nice setting. Also good for summer meals as they have a nice outside space.

I booked a table for 16 people for 7pm on a Friday evening for a colleagues leaving dinner (Restaurant had over a weeks notice) There were two specials 'available' in addition to the main menu. By the time we ordered around 7.15pm one special had sold out completely and there was only one portion left of the other one. Additionally, at least 4-5 options in both the starters and mains were not available. Very disappointing. We also had to wait over an hour for the food, which when it arrived was average at best. However, the band was good ! just a shame about the food

Absolutely fantastic day and night. The room was perfect the breakfast outstanding and the wedding reception was brilliant. You couldn’t have done anything more to make it any better. Loved every minute of our stay we will definitely be back!! X

Nice hotel, I had a little mix up with my room, which they sorted out quickly for me. The bar is nice and lively. The breakfast was very nice and the staff were friendly and polite.

Stayed here over the weekend as part of a Thorpe Park deal. Receptionist extremely friendly and helpful. Had top floor room with beams, large double bed, and two single sofa beds made from arm chairs. A small fridge was provided, Krups coffee machine, tea and hot chocolate. Also fresh water and glasses. Bath Towels were super soft and large. Bathroom met all our needs, no hand soap so we used the shower gel that was provided. Shampoo was also provided.

Only popped in for a quick drink. Really nice beer garden at the back. Good choice of drinks and pretty cheap too. Only thing that stopped me giving a five star was that the staff had neglected the garden area a tad. Dirty plates/glasses on tables. But overall, a really nice place.

Pub looks pleasant enough, menu also looks nice. Food on the other hand is poor quality. Steak small, tough with lots of gristle. Fish and chips swimming in fat, chips frozen. I mean come on 1/3 of every meal is chips at least try and make them good chips!

This is a nice, homely setting pub, with a log fire and comfortable seating. they also do great food, including an excellent Sunday Roast. There's a wicked outside area to, with heaters and even blankets to keep you warm in the winter if needed.

For the price, the Crown was OK. The room was clean and the bed was absolutely huge and comfortable! We ordered room service for food on the first night, the service was quick but the food wasn't great, but for the cost it was acceptable. A bottle of "drinking water" was left in the room but we didn't touch it as it looked like it had been there a while. My only real gripe is that they asked for a card to autherise whilst we were there even though we had already paid for the room in advance, this took £300 from our account. Even though our "extras" bill only came to 33.50 (for the room service meal) we're still waiting for the £266.50 to be released back into our account. Luckily we can manage without this money for now but some people may not be able to. The hotel should make it clear that autherising your card means that the funds aren't available to you and won't be for a while after your visit!

Had another lovely dinner at The Crown in Chertsey, would definitely recommend to anyone who enjoys a great pub.

Only went for drinks, didn't have food or stay in the hotel. It has a nice feel to the pub, nice and busy. Really good selection of ales and beers. Good size garden with plenty of seating.

Have been here three times in the last two or three weeks with various teams as we're moving our company into the area and it's becoming the new "local" for impromptu lunch meetings, will no doubt become an after work option as well.

My project had a team dinner at the restaurant. Food was pre ordered and they came quickly. My starter of fish cake was good. The steak I ordered for my main was very nice. Cheesecake dessert was a bit of a let down after the nice starter and main. Atmosphere and surrounding was cosy.

I love the Crown and the friendly owners and staff. The Crown is dog-friendly with the most comfortable surroundings and ambience. The food is well prepared and copious and the Crown is my first choice place for a beer.

A large group of us went here on Friday night for a friends birthday. The food was good but the service was very slow. We had to keep asking the waitress for drinks and a couple of time just went to the bar to get a round as it seemed very short staffed! What really spoilt it was a group of women who were extremely drunk. The band was good when we got up to dance these women were falling over on the dance floor. The singer from the band made a comment to us about the state they were in. One went to the loo and was sick and just left it didn’t even flush the chain. When one of us spoke to the manager, he was very rude and arrogant and told us they were regulars! So he seemed to think it was ok! We’ve been to the crown a number of times, we have a girls night booked in a couple of weeks. We always recommend this place to family and friends but after our experience on Friday we will be having a rethink!

After visiting this place, I can safely say that I will never visit again.

It looked lovely and cosy from the outside but attitude of waitress was horrendous. I asked if there was a gluten free option and the response was “if it doesn’t say GF it isn’t OK?”. There was zero info about allergies and asked to ask staff member! Open fire is very cosy and I was looking at booking a night at the hotel but after that attitude I would rather stay at Battersea Dog home. We went a further down the road and had a lovely meal at The Kingfisher

Lovely pub but sadly let down by a rude member of staff. Irish, older, larger. Not big on social or communication skills. When Young’s pubs charge a premium, they should really recruit staff that know how to talk to people. Asked to move tables, which is fine! But it’s all in the how. If we’d been asked to move as the area was needed rather than told to move now, that would have been more respectful. Sorry Chertsey, I’ll stick to weybridge! Get your staff right.....it’s so important !

Have stayed here on multiple times as it is convenient for Head Office. Staff and atmosphere is always great. Good beer garden when weather permits. Good rooms with nice, large comfortable beds. Food is also good quality, but vegetarian options are extremely limited - no longer seem to do any vegetarian specials. However, appears the menu has not changed in a long time (i.e. over a year) which is a huge pity - I wonder if this is a consequence of the managing brewery?

We had a one night Saturday night stay as part of a Thorpe Park break deal. The hotel is only 5 min drive from Thorpe which is ideal and easy to find and has a secure car park with an electric gate. Check in was quick and easy and we had room 11. We booked a double room but was given a twin but rather than complain we just pushed the beds together. The room was nice with a coffee machine and radio and kettle etc. The shower let it down slightly as it wasn’t very powerful and has an old fashioned shower curtain. We also couldn’t get any heating to work. The controls had a padlock on the screen so we gave up. Beds were very comfy and the large tv is very good and the free brownies! Breakfast was also very good. Buffet style but very nicely done and tasted great- posh smart toaster!
