Lunchtime were totally disinterested in customers. The menu was let down by numerous not available’s To conclude, not exactly sure why we went there for lunch. Breakfast is okay and early staff were attentive, but I would advise eating elsewhere for lunch. For a drink great if the staff care to serve you at lunchtime Thank goodness for the App that’s something staff cannot ignore.l

Was pleasantly surprised at how nice this place was as some Spoons can be a bit scruffy, no offence, very nice beer garden, had large brunch (with drink) for only £11, delicious and served within 10 minutes. Great mix of ages and a few local characters. Young staff who were friendly and courteous. Would recommend to anyone if you're looking for a tasty breakfast and great value for money

I know it’s trendy to smoke fruit shoot favoured chemicals nowadays but I don’t want to sit breathing in all that muck, whilst enjoying a pint. If the doorman smells vape he should give a warning then kick out the entire group if it carries on. I know it’s not the Ivy and I’m not precious but it’s pretty obvious when someone is slyly puffing away on their adult dummies. Apart from breathing in other peoples habit, you can’t go wrong with the cross, for a cheap beer.

I'm visiting from Manchester and what a lovely little lunch we had today, made even lovelier by adorable Tinkerbell the cat who came to eat with us. She has perfect table manners and even curled up for an afternoon snooze after her lunch. The food was great, the service was fantastic - Peony was just the loveliest server and a credit to the Crowborough Cross.

No parking unless your a local and know how to . So do your research before going . Its the homogenised Wetherspoons so no surprises but we didn't have to play the unique sport of HUNT THE FREE TABLE. An overcast Monday afternoon saw us venture in . The first time for about 30 years . Order submitted and not a long wait for our meal . Tasted ok but could have been hotter , my cheese had not melted (see pic ) But the order was correct ,no pickle salad or source as requested. Deserts ok but mine was very small, small scoop and half a biscuit . Table 21 was adjacent to the noisy kitchen ,a clanging and a banging ,hissing and ,well you get the picture. It did give us smile as the children were remonstrating with each other Free entertainment as we could not hear the ambient muzak any way . Will go again if in area. Be aware of the very steep steps upon exiting especially if you can afford a few. The waitress took a good photo of us too . ( in the post now )

So dirty. When entering from the main front doors and turning left up the stairs, the fabric chairs upstairs are beyond belief. Not just stained, but soiled. Utterly disgusting. It instantly puts you off your food and makes you question the broader hygiene of the establishment. Looking at those chairs in daylight, you’d honestly think they’d been dumped at the bottom of a canal. So vile.

Ordered an ice cream and drink, seems they can mess that up! supposed to have chocolate sauce, I thought maybe she left it of because i asked if the Wi-Fi worked, only to get a surely response of "depends". Any way, it seems they don't have any. Take it off the menu if you are selling Belgium chocolate ice cream. She then proceeded to make out it was my fault as it says on the app they don't have anyway. Sorry Tim, didn't know I had to check the internet before ordering, which I couldn't as she already knew the internet wasn't working. so, I should have read a notice at the bar. My fault. Also wasn't aware I had to read every sign in the building before I order. It took almost half an hour to arrive even though there didn't seem to be many people there. Someone needs to sort that place out. it could be good.

I literally popped into the pub this afternoon for a quick half pint with my terrier dog then to go and sit in the garden for half an hour. I was just looking at the beer pumps on the bar when I was told, without even a polite "excuse me"(presumably by somebody who works there) I wasn't allowed in the pub with my dog. This is the first time in my life I have been told I and my dog weren't welcome at the bar in a pub. If it was the dining room I could understand but at the bar and then to go outside ?! Really?! Delusions of grandeur springs to mind ! I hadn't been in that pub for years having heard of trouble a friends son in law had there years ago when the then bouncers accused him completely wrongly of doing something he didn't do when he'd just gone in for a meal with his family. I thought after many years I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. I won't be going back ! Nice to know that in a time of the Hospitality Industry suffering from economic troubles this establishment clearly doesn't need customers !

A large group of us visited this establishment back in January around 6pm in the evening to meet up for my dad's birthday. The place was very busy and we found two tables on the lower floor. The tables were filthy with food all over the place but given the place was busy this was definitely understandable. Our issue began when 9 off us were seated and asked a rather reluctant male in his early 20s to please clean our tables. This was done with huffs puffs and reluctantly. We placed our order and he made us feel like we had inconvenienced him. We ordered an array of things but myself and my father had the chicken curry and exactly the same meal. It was luke warm but we arnt complainers usually and we after the reception we got we didnt really want to make a fuss. A few days later I came down very sick with abdominal pains it was the day that the paramedics were on strike but I was that ill I had to call 101 and they advised I go to hospital. I was too ill to move and I dragged myself to the gp the next day who gave me antibiotics and said I could have diverticulitis. He told me to do a stool sample and it came back that I had contracted food poisoning and it would most likely be from eating chicken . The ONLY chicken I had was at your establishment . I have since received 2 letters from environmental health wanting to know more information. I have never been in this situation before. I wrote a review in the name of sunny side before which is my email which you responded to with sarcasm which was very "professional" of you so I thought I would come back and elaborate. I have these letters. I don't know the name of the young lad who served us despite having visited your establishment many times and never having a problem before. But if someone writes a review it should not be met with sarcasm I feel all comments should be taken on board and customers treated with respect. Myself and my dad won't be having the chicken again. He was not as bad as me which was lucky as he is a very old man. Don't try and put down people who give you bad reviews you really made us ill and we didn't even reply to the letters from the environmental heath but what I am going to do if u email me an address to sent it to is send u copy's of the letter so who you see my name address and the fact that this is in no way malicious .

I ordered a Classic 8oz Sirloin steak from the Steak Club menu, I wasn't impressed with what I was given. A piece of steak, a potato and a lurpack pot. Really didn't look appetising. If that's how it comes then so be it but, I wouldn't call it Classic, and neither did the staff, as twice, she referred to it as 'Simple Steak', not what it says on the menu which is somewhat misleading. The steak itself wasn't great, quite a bit of sinew. At least there was a fair bit of scraps to take home for the fox. It's a shame, I've eaten here 5/6 times before and it's been very good. Breakfast and a few lunches. The staff are good as is the place itself, clean, nice layout. Warm. Whilst it was very poor today, food wise, I will eat here again. Just not the Classic Sirloin.

We have visited Wetherspoons' pubs around the country and there are good ones and not-so-good ones. In Crowborough we are lucky to have one of the better ones. There is a very good choice of both food and drinks at very good prices. It is not fine dining but it is good food, served quickly and excellent value for money. My only criticism of this pub is that when the staff clear the tables, as guests leave, they don't wipe them clean - so new customers are invariably faced with a table covered in wet circles from the previous occupants' drinks glasses. It's a shame as it would only take a moment and would make the place much more inviting.

As a Wetherspoons pub you know what to expect but the Cross is better than a lot of similar venues. The food menu is extensive enough for all tastes, although on occasion the food could be hotter and gives the impression of having sat waiting for someone to deliver it. Quality is good when judged against the price which includes a drink with the meal. Good selection of real ales at prices that undercut the opposition by £1+ so a good place for a reasonable pint. Parking is very limited being on a busy crossroads but within a short walk, places can be found. Nice staff although occasionally the wait to be served can be a little too long. On entery to the establishment it looked very uninviting, memeber of staff standing at the bar. No greeting just a patronising look as if more people to serve. Floor covered in food that was dropped by previous guests. Tables majority of them unclared, while staff walking around aimlessly. A member of staff with shoulder length dark hair in her 40's had chip on her shoulder was very rude when I asked if a table could be cleared so we could have a meal. She said you will have to wait as we are busy and walked off. Due to that uninviting attitude and experience we decided to go to another restaurant. I have been a restaurant manager in the past for number of years and it seems to me that this restaurant has major problem when it comes to staff especially management and how they conduct themselves. Would never came back or reccomend this restaurant until this issue has been resolved.

Popped in for Breakfast around 10.45am so plenty of time before breakfast stops being served. Ordered at the bar, it's about £5 for breakfast so I don't expect fabulous cuisine but Wetherspoons in Tonbridge does a fantastic job of making a good breakfast so I thought this would be the same. It wasn't! The breakfast that came out first didn't look great so I palmed that off on my husband. The 2nd breakfast that came had completely solid eggs so my husband asked for them to be changed, I watched my breakfast sit under the lights whilst they cooked a 2nd batch of equally hard eggs. Meanwhile everything else had gone really cold. Our toddler is going through a chicken nugget phase so we had a childrens meal for him, when it came out it looked like the corn on the cob had already been gnawed at. When my husband asked a member of staff if he thought that's how it should be presented he said he didn't know as he didn't know how it came out. We said it came out like that, he hasn't touched it & we weren't going to let him. He seemed totally bemused about how to deal with complaints so we just left it at that. Based on this experience I wouldn't return.

A huge improvement on its predecessor at this central location. The drinks are very competitively priced (unto half the price of pubs in nearby Tunbridge Wells) and the food is typical pub grub at very reasonable prices. It often does special deals, but this is a pub and not a restaurant so be sensible and manage your expectations. Teas and coffees are very good value and you get free top ups. It can get quite lively from 8pm onwards. Staffing levels are sometimes a bit off so you can be left waiting to be served. I had a lovely steak and kidney pudding today 10th Feb 2019 but seeing as I went in two after after opening time on Sunday the carpet everywhere was in a right state with particles and dirt very much everywhere and also on the steps up to the loos. Mens loos were not particulalry fragrant with no wall chart for maintenance, dirty stalls, and low on supplies. A shame as I have been here before and standards were higher.

Wetherspoons, so old architecture preserved. Food good value, as many coffee/tea refills as you like. Can be difficult to place order at bar if drinkers hang around it. I object to Tim (Mr Wetherspoon) leaving pro-Brexit propaganda on easels and on tables. He has his views, but does he have to push them on to his clientele?

Two weekends ago I turned 18 and I had drinks in weatherspoons with Family and friends. Tonight Kiera Best was not only rude but she refused to serve me! She has served me before and because she doesn’t like me she refused to serve me and made out she didn’t know how old I was! She was extremely rude to me and my friend and tomorrow I will be taking this further! I am disgusted by her behaviour tonight and me and my friends will be taking this further tomorrow! And because of the threats she made I will also be contacting police. Many thanks

The pub was friendly and service good. Did not wait long for our meals, and wham I made a mistake on the order, it was rectified with no fuss :) Good number of vegan options - thank you!! Prices v reasonable. The only down side was that, being 4th Jan, I'm not sure the cleaning staff had got back into action yet - toilets and corridor a bit manky. Overall, enjoyed our lunch out.

The Crowborough Cross is a great pub with a good range of cheap drinks and a fantastic interior that blends old and new together really well. The pub is a bit of a maze but that’s a benifet as you can find somewhere quiet to sit if it gets too noisy.

Undercooked pizza and indifferent service. Used to be good but they seem to have become used to being the only (former) decent pub in town. The white hart does it all better for a similar price.

In 2015 Wetherspoons saved this listed building from dereliction with a very costly refurbishment and extension. It is very well run, with exceptional service and great value food and drinks. Family friendly too. Smartphone app for ordering is pure genius. Thanks for improving our town!

Visited last in 2017 and was able to drop in again yesterday. The place is full of character and the food is well up among the best in the chain. We took friends who had not previously eaten at a Spoons and they were amazed at the value. It made for a very pleasant evening. Food ordering was easy and when it came all our meals were nice and hot. Staff were a little bit under pressure, trying hard to keep on top of things. Could clearly do with an extra pair of hands. They are actually advertising for such. The three young ladies we met were still very pleasant and cheerful however. We shall return.

I had read the reviews and I regret that nothing much has changed from various customers, the staff are helpful when they are at the bar which they disappear often, the tables are sticky and dirty, the food service is poor and the kitchen staff vanish, the heat alarms can be going for at least 2 minutes before anyone reappears. The Food I had was acceptable but not outstanding, The staff on the hole are the same everywhere moaning but that is normal in my experience. The Ale was well looked after other than that just like the average except Ramsgate which is Still New. It has Plenty of space and little rooms for the peace and quiet

Crowborough spoons- great drinking location. Arran in the Kitchen will happily sort out the perfect pizza after a few pints. Connor the mainly cheerful, sometimes grumpy bar staff pours a good pint along with Kira, Luke and Ellie.

Good cheap food in a cosy setting and plenty of choice of where to sit even on a weekend. You don't go here for high end dining and the Traditional Sunday Lunch menu has changed to more of a Sunday Brunch menu. This is not a problem as it does what it says on the tine.

I have been in a lot of Wetherspoons up and down the country and this has to be the dirtiest one. The coffee machine and area surrounding it is filthy. The floor and tables cannot be cleaned properly they have that permanent stickiness and dirty look to them. A couple of occasions I have gone in there in the morning and the staff including what looks like the manager are all eating breakfast and 1 person was behind the bar working. It took 5-7 mins to be served. There is also a lady working behind the bar who coughs fairly continually and doesn't put her hand over her mouth, it's disgusting and she was going on about how ill she was. Why was she working in the first place?? I like the beer and the breakfast is pretty good so that is the only reason I go in there.

Was enjoying a very nice evening, until decided to order some chips which arrived at the table undercooked, and solid. We politely informed a waiter of this who said he would sort this out. He was gone for less than a minute, after which he dumped the same plate of food on the table and rudely told us they weren't undercooked as they had 'been in the microwave and everything.' Frustrated, we commented that this was an unsatisfying answer, to which the waiter walked back to our table and sarcastically asked if we would like to talk to his manager. When we declined, he continued to grumble under his breath. Working in the same industry, we understand the frustrations of complaints, however, we felt a small problem with our food was dealt with poorly and blown out of proportion.

This was the first time we have been to the Crowborough Cross as we are not local to Crowborough. We found that the pub was well kept, and the bar and food area was clean and tidy. The bar staff were friendly and efficient. The lady behind the bar was helpful in explaining the menu options to us. She quickly went into the kitchen to make sure it was fine when we wanted to make a slight modification to what we ordered. Our food arrived quickly on a warm plate and was very nice. I had the scampi and my wife had the gourmet chicken burger. The chips were cooked perfectly and lovely and crisp. There was also a decent choice of puddings and these were equally as good as our main meal. We were pleased with both meals and thought they were excellent value for money. We would certainly go back to the pub next time we are in the area.

We moved to Pevensey recently and The Red Lion is our new “local”. It’s warm and inviting, the staff are lovely and the food is always brilliant, portion sizes are good and quality of food is on point. Prosecco deals would be amazing as it does put us off slightly the price of a bottle compared to Tesco next door but if you want a night out then it is what it is! We are regulars and enjoy our time here. Music on a Friday/Saturday night would be great instead of Sundays but that’s just us im sure others like it on a Sunday.

This country pub had been on our list for ages and so as it was my birthday weekend we booked for Sunday lunch. We'd checked the menu before booking so we knew the roast was pricey at £24 for the roast beef. We usually pay between £16 and £20 elsewhere. Unfortunately, when it arrived it was disappointing. There was plenty of thinly sliced beef but I found it very fatty and chewy. There were fewer vegetables than expected, half a carrot, 3 very small, very hard roast potatoes and a pile of kale. The Yorkshire pud was large but mainly soggy. The gravy was delicious. Also elements of the dish were less warm than others. The pub is lovely and had a good drinks menu but we were seated in the bar area and had to listen to staff discussing their rotas at length. Perhaps if we'd been in the main restaurant area or outside we'd have had a better experience. Maybe consider your portion sizes especially the veg. We didn't stay for desert.
