Do not stay here. It’s a rather grotty hotel disguised as a lovely one. So dissapointing. I’ve never seen such a filthy hotel room in all my years of travelling for work and staying in multiple places. It clearly hasn’t been cleaned properly for a long time! In need of some serious TLC!

I’ve missed a few places from a quick tour of Somerset, Devon and Cornwall… The Crossways Inn being our first stop, The Hotel isn’t much to look at haha but that’s where the surprise kicks in… once you enter the presentation is amazing, The bar and restaurant areas are great the rooms where lovely!!! When you step onto the balcony dining area the location and views are just a perfect setting for an evening meal… Never judge a book by its cover couldn’t be truer!!!!

Stayed here for a few days recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is tucked away down country lanes in a beautiful location with views across the Somerset levels and Glastonbury tor. The rooms are large and modern with a very comfy bed and well appointed bathroom. We ate in the restaurant every night, the food was brilliant and the portions are huge. Breakfast was also amazing everything is cooked to order so no dried up food under heat lamps which you tend to find in some hotel chains. All of the staff are friendly and professional and very attentive. Overall we had a wonderful time here and can highly recommend it, we shall certainly be back.

Extremely disappointed, after visiting last week for a carvery, we booked again this week and took the family. The carvery itself is lovely, all piping hot, an array of vegetables. What really lets it down is it is poorly managed. We were shown to our table and that is where the long wait began, after 20 minutes I eventually went back upto the bar and asked what we had to do to order. There were two young girls on duty, both who were trying to serve the bar, which was very busy and run food. There were only 4 front of house staff on. Rob, the manager was clueless, we ordered 5 desserts, 2 came, then 5 minutes later another 2 came, then that was it, still waiting for the last one. The manger should lead by example but from him, not a very good example to follow. Such a same, for a place this size to do just under 100 covers for a Sunday carvery, just shows there are problems within and I would say it starts with Rob. After sitting there again after finishing the desserts that did come, we had to venture upto the bar and ask if we could pay. We were looking for a venue for our Christmas lunch but on this performance it won’t be here. On a positive note, we appreciated the free round of drinks.

A lovely hotel but in need of management! When we arrived our room hadn't been cleaned properly. The bin not emptied, tissue box empty and the carpet not hoovered. Hardly a good start. We went for pre dinner drinks only to find the Tanqueray gin had run out and no more available, then we tried Hendricks gin with only 1 portion available and again no more available!! We then went into dinner and 20 mins later had to find someone to take our order! Waited another 20 mins before starters, garlic bread, came and then couldn't eat it as it was like a rock! In fact, the menu was disappointing a very bland pub type menu and not much choice without chips. Breakfast was ok although my scrambled egg was like rubber! Needless to say we won't be returning.

My Wife and I had to pleasure to spend last weekend at the Crossways Inn & Restaurant celebrating my Birthday and our 62nd Wedding Anniversary and what a lovely experience it was! All the Staff looked after us extremely well but, particularly impressive was the delightful and charming manner of Prashant and the quiet, but very effective way, in which he organised his talented Team. This Hotel certainly deserves 5 STARS11

Fantastic location the little village is beautiful to walk around after your meal and as we brought our dog the last evening walk. Easy distance to Glastonbury and wells. And the view of Glastonbury tor from the terrace is fantastic just sit with a drink and chill with the view. Staff are excellent and so friendly just couldn’t fault our stay.

Booked 2 nights in a 5* hotel at least that's what we thought! 2 days before we received an email to say there would be no food in the evenings. When we were there it was more of a 2* hotel. We spoke to staff, who were lovely, but there was no change in our room. On the second night there was a wedding, which the hotel was 98% booked for. It was so loud it was like a party in our room! Again there was no apology or refund offered. We would not recommend under any circumstances!

Myself and my wife recently spent 2 nights at the crossways for a short honeymoon break, in a four-poster suite. Our first impressions of the room where very good, with a lovely bed with comfy mattress, plenty of room, large walk in shower, and jacuzzi bath. Our suite had a great view of Glastonbury tor in the distance. We enjoyed drinks at the bar on the first evening, which where slightly over town prices, but not extortionate. Bar staff where great, and made great cocktails. We had already booked a table, and our order was taken quickly. Sadly that's where the service went down hill. The younger waitressing staff seemed a little lost and inattentive, we had finished our meals and ordered more drinks, only to be left waiting for the table to be cleared for over half an hour, with barely anyone in sight. The drinks order was also lost. I had to audibly say we where finished, and ask twice for a desert menu. The food however was lovely, if not slightly smaller portioned than we expected. Breakfast is a buffet affair, followed by a hot cooked breakfast of your choice. The buffet is not replenished as much as you'd expect, so make sure your down fairly early. Again the hot cooked breakfast was lovely, but small portioned. The other thing we didn't really like was the amount of disarray in the "wings". Ie store room doors left open, cleaning cupboards open, the function room was all over the place, at all times of the day. Also, some areas just looked tired, and scuffed, and could do with a freshen up. Despite all this, the senior staff, are amazing and friendly, and the location is perfect to explore the surrounding areas, Wells is 10mins(£12 taxi), Glastonbury Town is 15mins. Clarks village 25mins. Would I stay there again.... Yes. Do I hope the staff improve... Yes. Plenty of great restaurants in Wells and surrounding areas, if the restaurant staff and portions where just tweaked, it would be a 5/5 for us.

We booked for 1200, on arrival was met by a number of disinterested staff, who thought it was too much trouble to open the till to serve me. On asking about food was told that they would not open the servery until 1230, even though the adverts say it is from noon and we had booked this. Monosyllabic manager blurted it opens at 1230, and then resolutely told the kitchen staff to not give food any earlier. Although being pre warned that a member of the party was a vegetarian we were told that they would now go and start to prepare an option at 1240, by which time they realised they would be out of time and would not get it before they needed to be in work. The carvery had a large number of vegetables (supplementary to the bar staff) , sadly the beef was very tough and chewy, a pair of shoes from a Wells charity shop would have been both more tasty and value for money. On leaving the staff seemed too lazy to even take money from me, was tempted to just leave, but did pay.

We’ve had a lovely stay at The Crossways. We were given a really warm welcome by Dawn. We booked an Executive Double , which was large and beautifully clean. The bathroom was lovely and nicely decorated . The bed was comfortable. We had a very nice dinner in the restaurant. My husband had Beef, and I had a pizza which was gorgeous. We did wait a little bit, but the waiter did keep us informed and was very friendly. Our breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choices . The hotel doesn’t look much from the outside, but don’t be put off by that. Inside is very inviting and comfortable. The only thing I could say that could be improved upon was to provide Bath Sheets rather than Bath towels, as they’re not big enough to cover you all up!. But that’s just me! We will certainly look forward to staying there again. It’s very close to Wells and Glastonbury and set in a quiet village.

Booked £134 in order to visit an ECO concert at Wells Saturday night and unfortunately tested positive for covid on Friday. Called them immediately to cancel and explain the reason as needing to isolate. Hotel stuck to its policy of requiring a 48 hour cancellation despite telling me on the phone they had no record of my booking as they were full with a wedding. I can’t prove anything but really unimpressed by their miserable attitude when they’re already making a fortune with a wedding party. Don’t go anywhere near these people. Dr Austin Dunn

Great view and they dealt with our complaint quickly giving us a refund without any hassle. Unfortunately from a table of 7, 4 of us could not eat our meals and had to ask for a refund. We ordered 4 x sirloin steaks all cooked medium rare, all arrived well done. Meat was tough and tasteless. I asked for mash instead of chips - apparently this wasn’t allowed and we had to pay ~£5 on top of the £24 for steak & sauce. So I had chips with a side of mash? My friend ordered the same and this was fine- no further charge. Peppercorn sauce was orange and a bit weird! Glasses weren’t very clean and one had lipstick on. The young lad serving us asked abruptly ‘what do you want? when my partner went to order. And we waited an hour for our food, it wasn’t particularly busy. It was just all a bit rubbish! Our three other friends managed their burgers/pasta but it was nothing special. They seemed to have a lot of staff, but they were all very young and quite rude. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Lovely 3 night stay and base for our Mendips stay during first week in Sept. Had a family room and it was so spacious. Slept like a log in the very comfy beds and no hotel noise from air con or anything, which was blissful. A lot has been spent on the place, from the upmarket decor in the rooms to the wonderful outdoor spaces which command such a fantastic view of the Tor. Always had the fantastic cooked breakfasts each morning and the choice and standard was 5 star. All staff that we encountered were very attentive and helpful. Only quip was evening meals were a tad pricey and not much choice for a veggie or light meal options if you are a like me and your main meal is at lunchtime. Also not an inch of salad served with anything and ended up craving this when I got home!!!

We visited here at the weekend with my daughter and her family. It was a unique experience with the adaptations needed to meet Covid requirements. They have signs telling you what to do but I must say, it did feel rather alien at first. It wasn't at all busy so no problems with the distancing. We ordered and paid for our food and drinks via the app which was ok as my son in law was perfectly at ease with it ( as an older person I would have struggled). All the food came in disposable containers with disposable cutlery, although they did give us a spare china plate as the children shared a pizza - there is no children's menu. A lovely waitress helped us with knowing whether we had to order tomato sauce as that came as extras in little glass jars. The food was first class, my halloumi burger was the best I've ever had. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal - it was like an indoor picnic ! The whole experience was certainly novel due to the restrictions but we all felt safe and would definitely go again. We have all booked there for our Christmas lunch and are looking forward to it.

The hotel was very modern with friendly staff .Our room was spacious and well equipped and the restaurant served lovely food. Unfortunately the patio area you see on the web-site was being worked on and the weather was bad anyway so we never got to sit out there.

We came to Crossways for a wedding and it was lovely. There are views across the countryside with the Glastonbury Tor in the distance and hills the other way. The staff are very attentive and the food was excellent. Obviously this was a different menu as it was for a function but everything was cooked well and very tasty.

We used to call in this Inn many years ago. No real reason to stop, but being in Wells for the day decided to call in for lunch last Saturday. Wow. The Inn has been modernised and brought up to date. Really nice dining room. Food was brilliant. Good produce, perfectly cooked. Local cider, a real treat. Very friendly staff. Felt very comfortable. Whatever you are doing, please continue to do it as it is rare to find such a gem of a place where they obviously think the customer is king.

Decided to book this after viewing the pics on their website that are not representative. The rooms and stairwells are not maintained well - grubby marks on the walls, carpet in need of a clean, mould in bathroom and window blind broken etc. Overall, we did not feel comfortable in the room. The cooked breakfast was however good. If you’re looking for a very average inn (as opposed to hotel) then go ahead and book. It’s about a 15 minute drive to Wells along country lanes and therefore the hotel is very isolated.

Excellent food. Fantastic value for money and very attentive staff. Gluten Free food available. The waiter checked everything I ordered to guarantee it was Gluten Free, also had Gluten Free bread available. Did not have to ask for water, a large cold jug was brought to the table. Did not have to ask for clean serviettes, they were changed over with out fuss. Good size portions. Would definitely go back if in the area.

In general the hotel is nice, however, I believe its a bit over priced for what it is. The food is ok, the scenery is nice, but the rooms are definitely not as advertised in the photos, at least not the one we stayed in. The rooms are clean however. For the price we paid, I expected there to at least be a fridge in the room and a decent fan. More bathroom amenities, and more food variety.

Family gathering for lunch. I arrived first and made my way to the patio area. Filthy, tables dirty, only one table had a glass top which was dirty. Was told there were no umbrellas for the tables, in the middle of a heatwave for goodness sake. Wouldnt have sat there anyway, too dirty. Whilst waiting for our party to arrive we had a drink in the bar area. Clearly had not been cleaned, crisps and detritus on the carpet from previous evening. Food average, my sandwich was made from ready sliced bread which was disappointing as I expected at least something more exciting than a slice of supermarket bread. Would I recomment this venue for lunch? Most definitely not.

Just visited for a drink on a dog walk whilst on holiday. Went to get second drink and was totally ignored by barman who was on phone making a drinks order. I don’t mind waiting if the bar is busy, but we were the only customers and not to be acknowledged is down right rude, so we left. You lost at least a meal for 2 for tomorrow as we were going to eat there. Will now try the Crown instead. My local only has one person serving most of the day and they manage it so no excuse!

Breakfast ok but wasn't offered toast then when we asked for it it came after we had finished eating. Not a good choice of cereals and no pastries and not much fruit. Quite disappointing

Spent 1 night recently on my way to Dorset. Room (4 poster) was lovely and big but in an area with no phone signal you'd think they'd put phones in the room so you could make calls and also no bed side alarm clocks. Reception was friendly and attentive but the whole place was empty and felt more like a convention center rather than an intimate hotel. Cant comment on food or brekkie as had none.

We were running late and the hotel phoned to see if we were having trouble finding them but satnav took us straight there. We were made really welcome and our room was beautiful, large and spotless. It being late we turned in straight away and had a really comfortable night. Breakfast was similarly lovely and no trouble spared by a really pleasant waitress. All in all a lovely stay and whilst this was a flying visit while visiting a poorly relative we'll go back as a destination as there is also a lot to do in the area. We didn't have dinner but a couple we talked to visit regularly to treat themselves and they said the food was excellent. Our short B&B; stay was just £62. Possibly the best value stay we've had anywhere.

The BBC take over the hotel for Glastonbury Festival and they always pamper their staff. Everything was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. Portions a shade on the large side for me but my family had no difficulties. Nice range of reasonably priced bar type food with good choice of more upmarket meals but all was tasty and well presented, with efficient service

After reading all the positive reviews on Trip Advisor, we chose The Crossways for our family Christmas lunch. We were very impressed with the venue, a lot of time, trouble and money has been spent on developing a great Inn/hotel/ restaurant. There is a lovely and stylish bar surrounded by a number of different multi function rooms which on Christmas Day were all brought into service as dining rooms for the buffet style lunch.

We were looking for somewhere to take my 94 year old mother for a Sunday lunch and friends suggested here. It has a great carvery, with a good restaurant area and a bar where you can take dogs. The service and the surroundings are excellent and the £9.50 for an adult carvery and £4 for a sweet are excellent, but he prices for the other meals is beyond our pocket! It has a lovely rear patio with sofas etc and we shall stay long enough for a coffee after lunch if we can afford it!

We stayed for one night after Xmas shopping at the Clark’s village in Street. This lovely Inn with rooms is only 5 miles away. The welcome and check in from the lady at the desk were fantastic. She was naturally polite and helpful, not put on at all. Our room was very clean and spacious with everything we needed and lots of hot water for a relaxing bath. Homemade cookies were a nice touch too. We ate in the pub and can also say that this was a lovely experience with great food and a roaring fire. All staff were very friendly and provided fantastic service. Breakfast the next morning was also great with locally sourced ingredients. We will return, Thank you.

My wife and I both have Shepton connections but had never been to the cafe before. Having g recently retired, we called in for a toasty and a sandwich. The food selection is brilliant, prices really reasonable (no £8 sandwiches here), and the staff really friendly. Sadly, the cafe is up for sale but we really hope to get the chance to return before it closes or goes upmarket.

Booked a table for family of five for Halloween Service was polite and friendly, didn’t have to wait too long for our order and the meals were all hot quantity & quality was amazing. We all had fish & chips but there are other options of things to eat. Definitely value for money and will definitely be returning again

The refurb of this place is of a very high standard and the staff are friendly and helpful. Unfortunately the food lets it down. Primarily, if you don't like burgers or fish and chips, find somewhere else. I visited with a friend and although my fish and chips were good, my friends meal was first served on completely cold vegetables. On pointing this out to the waiting staff, she offered a replacement which, we expected would be a plated meal with hot food. Unfortunately it was delivered as a pile of veg and potatoes thrown together in a tin dish. Not ideal and a real disappointment. Probably would not visit again.
