Used the restaurant both nights on our stay at the hotel. Good selection of dishes and the food was delicious. Staff very welcoming and friendly. Husband rated the steak pie as one of the best he had ever had.

Arrived early and was immediately shown to a wobbly table in a very cold looking room, no background music, no atmosphere. Just my friend and I talking. Waitress came and asked how we booked, my friend advised it was through groupon and said she had given reception all details when booking. Waitress requested the voucher number, which had my friend frantically looking through her diary when the waitress could have easily checked with reception. We were the only ones in the place! Afternoon tea ....... My friend is pescatarian which she informed the waitress of, who said there would be cheese and fish sandwiches along with ham and beef. Tea came followed by the stand with sandwiches, scones and cakes - all looked very nice. BUT there were more meat sandwiches than fish and cheese. The ham and beef sandwiches were obviously made with the same implement as the tuna because there was an underlying taste of fish! Moving onto the scones (cheese and fruit) ..... these were like small rocks! Dry and hard, the waitress changed one as my friend said it had put her off, the replacement was exactly the same so they all remained uneaten. The small cakes however were very nice. My friend booked this as a treat as she had been previously and said it was lovely! When we left she was quite upset and kept apologising. I found the place to be cold, uninviting and lacked any atmosphere whatsoever. I would not recommend and would definitely not return.

I visited the hotel for afternoon tea which was purchased through Groupon for my 75 year old Mum as a gift. The Hotel is set in lovely surroundings and the young lady that served us was sweet and helpful, however the food was dire! The young lady brought out the food into an area where there was no atmosphere it was bare and cold. We asked for the food after we had had a glass of Prossecco as we sat by a window with a view - it was brought out and immediately placed on the table already set up and left there to dry out and for the tea to go cold. The sandwiches were dry and unimaginative, cheese and egg and the scones were stale and very dry. How disappointing when this was a treat and a gift for my lovely Mum. I would never contemplate returning here the standards were very poor.

Stayed here one night in March as we were at an event at the Kings Hall. Receptionist upon arrival was very friendly. We went for 1 drink in the bar however we found it very pricy.. £7.50 for half a coke and bottle of lager so headed off in to the Center of Ilkley which is about a 10 minute walk. Room was ok nothing special mostly clean apart from the cob web hanging from the light fitting.

Overall good afternoon tea. Service wasn't up to scratch and had to find someone to see where the waiting staff are. Not being greeted and sitting in a very eerie room with no background music and two other tables awaiting even tea & coffee wasn't a good first impression and immediately was a worry. Once the waiting staff were present & the afternoon tea was served it was massively improved. Lovely sandwiches & yummy desserts - the brownie was to die for!

Groupon voucher for afternoon tea for two. 3 sandwiches types, cheese, ham and tuna. very naff compared to what you'd expect for afternoon tea choices. Scones pretty dry and cakes we got weren't that nice either. Cant imagine this is what you'd get if it wasn't a groupon otherwise you wouldn't pay! Was also shoved in this strange weird side room which has 0 atmosphere. staff lovely though

Arrived on Friday at lunchtime to drop bags off. Receptionist was helpful and we left out bags. Headed off for a long walk on Ilkley Moors. Arrived back at the hotel about 5pm to a cold room. Called reception and they said they would sort. Half an hour later still cold so called again to be told someone had switched the timer off. We were so annoyed. Had to shower and get ready and room did not improve. Went to reception as we are going out and the lady was telling someone on the phone that they could have a fan heater as their room was cold too. I asked if we could have one on our return so they said they would put one in the room ready for us. Sure enough it was there but only sent out cold air so no use at all. Got up the next morning to roasting reception and breakfast area. The hotel is a disgrace.... .

Did 2 one-nighters in 2 separate weeks. The room was clean, adequately equipped. Bathroom was large, clean with large, fluffy towels. Bed was comfy enough. We couldn't get the water hot enough in the shower the first week, but it worked fine the following week. The second visit wasn't as good as the first. The room and bathroom smelled of urine, the towel ring fell off the wall in the bathroom and the handle on one of the drawers kept falling off. We bought some disinfectant to combat the unpleasant smell. Otherwise, nothing to complain about. At £10 each for breakfast, we skipped that and went into town to one of the many excellent cafes.

Had an afternoon tea at Craiglands using a Groupon Voucher. Can only assume that as we were using a voucher roughly equivalent to BOGOF that the hotel produced an afternoon tea of half the normal quality. Had we had been charged the full price I would have refused to pay. Several very tiny sandwiches, some with so little filling it was impossible to tell what it was, two rather dry scones with sufficient jam and cream for one and tiny, one mouthful, squares of not very nice cakes. All in all it was very disappointing (although it was a good pot of tea and a charming gentleman in charge of the Brasserie). It was our first visit to Craiglands and are not encouraged to go again. The huge pothole at the entrance to the car park should have warned us what to expect.

Recently visited for afternoon tea & was very dissapointed. I have never ever seen sandwiches so small! They consisted of Beef,Ham and Egg Mayo all containing salad leaves. Bake well Tart type squares were dry as were the pieces of iced cake squares. The best thing was a chocolate square with nuts in it. Scones, again dry with one tiny dish for two people of jam and cream. I think when we asked for more tea the same tea bag was used again as the tea looked washing up water. Such a shame.

Staying in Ilkley we noted that a couple of the popular restaurants were closed on Sunday evening and we had already two bookings for the following evenings. So we selected the Brasserie restaurant at Craiglands Hotel.Took a taxi so we could both enjoy a bottle of wine. The Brasserie looked very nice, contemporary and well designed. However things didn't work out at all.Only one other couple in the restaurant on arrival so the room lacked atmosphere and any evidence of activity. We were duly directed to a table and the waiter enquiredwhat drinks we would like. After a while the drinks arrived along with the menus. On enquiring about gluten free options the waiter indicated that he would have to 'double check' most of our questions. After a while he returned and we duly placed our order which included 'soup of the day'.After nearly one hour since our arrival and 25 minutes since placing our order the waiter returned to our table to tender 'chef''s apologies but the soup will be another 20 minutes'.Somewhat surprised that soup would take so long we made efforts not to express concern as this could blemish the evening out.But after 30 minutes it was becoming increasingly obvious that there was a serious plroblem in the kitchen.I then searched for the waiter in the outside corridor and saw one of the kitchen staff. As requested he brought out a manager who offered his apologies. It became apparent that they were struggling to service the restaurant and a large function in another part of the building.I indicated that we had wasted one and a half hours and were not prepared to wait any longer. I asked reception to call us a taxi to take us to another restaurant

We booked 2 rooms over Christmas, the hotel was not full. On our first night we were in a room immediately above a disco. This went on past midnight; when we asked if we could move rooms we were told by reception that we couldn't. However, the following day we were moved. Our room had a broken toilet seat and maintenance were off till the new year. The rooms were okay, while the bathrooms appear to have been refurbished the decor in the bedrooms was a little tired. In fact that describes the hotel generally - "a little tired"When we came down to breakfast there was no one to check our room numbers etc. We waited for 5 minutes, then went to reception to let them know to be told there are 3 people working breakfast (not sorry, I'll find out). Eventually we did speak to someone on reception who did effect change of rooms and apologised for previous poor service by other staffBreakfast was traditional and fairly bland and the coffee uniformly awful.Overall it was a disappointing stay, our previous experience of staff in hotels at Christmas is very different. And it wasn't a cheap option

We were only on B&B but the breakfasts were good. The building is obviously in need of some modernising which will take time. The bar could be better run with us having to wait 5-10 mins to get served and in the late evening you can only put drinks on your room with a surcharge on each drink.I would stay here again and it would be nice to see the garden and decking improved outside with the internals upgraded.

I was disappointed with our bedroom. There were crisps on the floor and the carpet was dirty. I was tempted to leave, but as it was a fundraising event I decided to stay. The hotel was probably in its prime 50-60 years ago, and is now sadly in decline. It needs a lot of money spending on it to bring it into the 21st century.I think the evening meal was provided by external caterers, so I can't comment on the quality of the hotel's food although the breakfast was o.k.

We used a voucher for afternoon tea for two. We had never been to this venue before despite it only being a few miles away. The car park is at a very odd angle to get into from the top drive entrance and badly needs resurfacing as there are some dangerous potholes. Work is being carried out in various places inside and some areas smelled strongly of paint. All doors we went through, including toilet doors, squeaked horribly and this could easily be fixed by a diligent staff member with some WD40! The whole place was like a morgue as we saw no guests at all. The lady in reception was polite and the bar area was deserted when we arrived. Quickly greeted by a smartly dressed man who took our order. When I made the booking I requested plain sandwiches and this has been done, which was good. The selection was cheese and tomato (plain ones) but the others were a sad looking beef and ham- 3 fingers of each in standard bread. The scones were warm but had been cooked and as a result had gone hard. These were served with ample dishes of cream and jam. The cakes were squares of chocolate brownie, plain sponge with icing and a grape, blueberry frangipane type cake. Tea plus extra water was served in silver teapots. Nobody else came in the whole time so we listened to birdsong from outside plus StrayFM radio playing whilst reading subtitled news on the TV, which seems to be an undesirable but standard feature in venues these days. The full price of this tea on the menu was £14.95 each which is massively overpriced. This cost for two would be about acceptable- thank goodness for voucher deals.Just average food in what could be a lovely place, after alterations and paint fumes had gone, if it had some life in it!

Mt wife and I needed a break and saw a deal for 2 nights to include an afternoon tea and an evening meal. I contacted the hotel and asked about a 3rd night as we would be travelling 240 miles from Essex. The price quoted was acceptable and so booked. 2 days before travelling we had the opportunity to go for another night and so I contacted the hotel and as our room was available I booked it and so we had a 4 night break. It was well worth it, the free ipgrade was an excellent bonus. The staff were very friendly and pleasant. The room was wonderful which was at the front of the hotel with a lovely view. The hotel was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was well cooked and well presented. The afternoon tea which was tea and scones with cream and jam, was of a high standard. The evening meal was beautifully cooked and well presented. The weather was reasonably kind to us and overall the break was what was needed and well worth every penny spent. Not often a Yorkshire will make that admission. We have already enquired about another break, this time at the back end of the year. Can't rate it highly enough.

My partner and I recently stayed at the Craiglands Hotel, we had a lovely stay and the food was fantastic. I actually cannot fault the service we received from all the staff even if the hotel seemed very quiet. Some parts of the hotel need repairing but that natural with an older hotel. The breakfast on the first day was not as expected due to larger groups in but on the second day it was perfect. We upgraded the room as we had read some of the rooms can be smaller in size. I would highly recommend this hotel. The town of Ilkley is beautiful and would be even better in summer.

We were a little apprehensive after we'd looked at some of the recent reviews. The Craighlands hotel is a very large and ageing hotel which must require constant updating but the hotel has clearly been refurbished very recently and then decor was modern and clean. Our bedroom was large and spacious and recently refurbished. Fresh towels every day.Breakfast was a buffet style and there was a good choice of hot and cold items - including mushrooms and black pudding. The hotel is a ten minute stroll down the hill to the beautiful village of Ilkley and Ilkley Moor is within easy walking distance too. No need to get in the car if you don't want to.We asked for help from staff a couple of times during our visit and found them helpful and accommodating. All in all a good break.

The communal areas are okay and the breakfast was fine. However, our room was very run down and disappointing. On arrival, our room was very cold. We put the radiator on full and went out for approximately 2-3 hours, hoping the room would warm up. When we returned the room was freezing, it was warmer outside than it was in the room. We went to reception and explained our situation and the lady on the desk said she would send the Duty Manager up to our room to check the heating. When he arrived he confirmed it was cold and checked the radiator, he said he had turned the heating on earlier, but our radiator was not heating up. He said, "Don't worry I will bring you a heater up and the maintenance team will come and look at the radiator tomorrow." This surprised us, as we thought, we would be moved rooms, due to the size of the hotel. He returned with the heater and told us to plug it in and turn it on straight away. Unfortunately, there was only 1 double socket in the whole room, one of which was taken by the TV. After approximately, 1 hour of the heater being plugged in (at this point the room was only just starting to get warm) the socket which the heater was plugged into started to spark and make noises. Luckily my partner immediately turned it off at the socket and tried to take the plug out, to avoid it causing additional damage, it was stuck in the socket and had melted the plug! Had we have not noticed the sparking and melting plug, this could have had a very different ending! By this time we felt very unsafe and wanted to go home, this was before we had even stayed one night, out of our two night stay. As this happened late on in the evening we were both ready for bed, therefore we waited until early the next morning to leave, which meant cutting our stay short, which we had paid for in advance! The lady on reception was disgusted that the Duty Manager had not moved us when we told him about the heating and was extremely concerned about the melting plug socket! We will not be returning and I would not recommend to anyone!

Firstly I would like to thank craiglands for hiring their new coordinator Sophie who was absolutely fantastic in preparing everything before our day of 160 guests. No issue was too big or small and she did everything so efficiently. On the day our toast master Gary organised everything to a fine art. Everything ran to a perfect schedule and nobody noticed the organisation in the background as the atmosphere was so relaxed. The food was absolutely fantastic! Our guests have said "best wedding meal they've ever had" The only downside was a problem with my mothers room in the bathroom through not fault of the hotel staff and it was rectified immediately. The venue looked absolutely fantastic. "Lusso styling". "Jackie bouquets saltaire" and sue Poperrella were either recommended or provided by craiglands and did an amazing job transforming the ballroom and moorside room into our dream wedding. There was another wedding taking place in the afternoon and we didn't even know About it or notice it the staff ensured everything was discreet. We have used this place twice before and have been very satisfied with the food and service. However.......We decided to take two of our Grandchildren aged 11 and 6 for a nice lunch yesterday. So rang up and booked a table. When we got there the place was deserted and was being re-decorated. There were tables and chairs in the corridors and the place was soooo cold.We were shown into a large room with leather sofas and chairs, that were splashed and stained with drink, and some tables and chairs. We were given the menu and told the fryers were broken so the chips were oven chips. Then we were told what they didn't have on the menu. By this time I was ready for leaving, but the kids were hungry. When the food arrived we were seated at the table and a knife and fork brought for us, no tablecloth, no napkins..... Grandson had ordered a burger, oh boy, it was chewy and looked nothing like burger meat should look like. He had a side of oven chips in a little bowl probably 15 in total bearing in mind this was an adult portion. Grandaughter had sausage and mash, She got the best of all the meals. Husband and I ordered fish ,chips and peas, oh my goodness. The fish was tiny and coated in the most disgusting batter ever manufactured,I scrapped my fish out of it and there were 3 mouthfuls.Chips again in a small bowl. Toilet visit next.....but would rather not re live this event. My Husband went to pay and complain. He was told "yes we are having some problems" What can you say to that. Had they told us on the phone they were redecorating and the place was in a mess , we would not have gone .Infact, I think they owe it to the public to shut the place down until all work is completed. Won't be going ever ever again ever.

We got a group on offer for Christmas. (one night stay with dinner and breakfast) When we arrived at this beautiful hotel their was a massive Indian wedding on. It looked amazing. Everyone looked to be having a fabulous time. We checked in at two with no fuss the receptionist was helpful. My husband went down to the bar to get some glasses. He was met half way by a member of staff who asked him if everything was ok. He told her, he just needed some glasses she told him she would bring them to the room. Two mins later the glasses arrived. We arranged to have dinner at six, we were the first in the restaurant. The service in the restaurant wasn't as good but the food was excellent! Everything was very tasty and presented perfectly. The dinning room was cold. A lot of people had to nip to their rooms to get a jumper. I asked for the radiator to be put on and they did straight away. After dinner we went to reception. We we're met by a young girl. She said she was 21 she ordered us a taxi and we asked about town and local things. This girl was so knowledgeable about the local town, she gave good advice and knew what she was on about. After a great night out in Ilkey we arrived back to the hotel early hours (430an) to find the door all locked up. Was really embarrassed having to buzz to be let in. Sorry who ever we had to knock up. After some lovely sleep we woke at 1030 I phoned reception to ask what time breakfast finished and what time we had to check out. She said if we come now for breakfast that would be ok and check out was 11. We went for breakfast and so glad we did, it was lovely. Help your self style breakfast. Loads of choice from English breakfast with black pudding to yogurt and cereals and lots of fresh fruit. A great range of juices and teas. We asked if we could keep our room on till later on. This wasn't a problem at all and only cost £10. well worth it for a couple of hours extra sleep. Check out was easy and it was the same young girl from the night before. She was lovely asked if we enjoyed our stay and asked about our night out. She showed lots of interest. She is a real credit to the hotel. Sorry we didn't get her name . This little hotel is located £3 in a taxi to some lovely bars, pubs and shops. Less than a five minute drive. The gardens are really nice too. Our room was clean warm and quiet. The bed was comfortable the shower was hot and powerful. Everything you would want. We will defiantly be back.

having stopped here for my works party I will never stop again,or of have a work party here will stay elsewhere. The rooms were very standard for £90 a throw and the room was freezing from getting in at 17:00 till leaving at 11:00 the next day.

Purchased an afternoon tea voucher from Amazon local and was very happy. The variety of sandwiches and cakes was good and the service was discreet yet attentive. We were welcomed with a glass of bubbly and asked if we wanted tea or coffee (there wasn't a problem when we requested some separate hot water). We visited in the summer and could tell on this visit that slight improvements had been made to make the atmosphere more appealing to the afternoon tea clientele. The hotel is in a good spot and was trimmed up for Christmas which was lovely with a special area set aside for the afternoon tea patrons with a real fire.We will be going again especially if similar offers become available as it is good value for money.

I attended a Cricket function at the Craiglands for 92 guests. The soup, leek and potato very good, the beef excellent and the veg crispy and crunchy. the chocolate tart very yummy. The service we received from the waiters and bar staff was excellent, nothing was too much trouble. Rating would have been a 5 had the larger not been so overpriced. All in all though a big thumbs up for the food and staff at the Craiglands.

My friend and I visited here with the friends and family of a funeral we had just attended. The Hotel was beautiful and really nicely set out for the large crowd which attended. The food was delicious - very well cooked and presented and all the staff were very friendly, kind and helpful. I would highly recommend a visit to this Hotel to anyone visiting this area.

Had a nostalgic walk around Ilkley and up on the moor - we lived right next to the moor from 1979 - 83. Then went to the Craiglands Hotel for Sunday Lunch in the Brasserie 1.We eat out most Sundays and travel about a bit to do so, so when I say this was the best Sunday lunch we have had for a long time it really is a compliment. Although the Hotel is large and over 100 years old the décor is smart and contemporary. The two young staff that attended to us were efficient and courteous - if the management have any sense they will hang on to them.We indulged ourselves with 3 courses and each one was of an ample quantity and delicious.Looks like we might plan a few more nostalgic visits.

Stayed as a group booking on the Friday until the Monday over the august bank holiday and found our stay to be excellent. Rooms very nice. Staff superb, lovely buffet style breakfast. Nothing we requested was ever a problem. So good we are already making plans to revisit next year. Many thanks Craiglands. Top job.

Very tired hotel! Scratched, sticky table with no table cloth and only very mediocre foodTired beef, dry ham and cheese and pickle sandwiches. Carrot cake tasted of nothing at all.Not really what I had in mind for a friend's birthday treat.

This was our second visit to Craiglands for an afternoon tea and it was not a patch on our first visit. To be fair the food was fine, the scones freshly baked and warm, three kinds of finger sandwich and the cakes nice. However, we had to ask for the cakes, one guest was missing their scone and then we had a pot of tea for two to share between five! The service was absolutely hopeless, pleasant enough but not at all efficient. We won't be going back again.

On arriving we booked a table for dinner that evening. On coming downstairs we were greeted by a man who appeared to be covering the bar, reception and acting as a waiter as well. We asked if we'd sit at a table in the bar as the restaurant was set for a large group arriving the following day. We said we didn't mind. We duly gave our order and some bread rolls were brought to us which were frozen in the middle. We are our starters which weren't particularly exciting and moved on to the mains. I had roast beef with all the trimmings. My husband ordered pan fried pork steak and was brought some kind of dried up fish smothered in sauce. The vegetables were sitting in a serving dish of water. We realised these were dishes from the Sunday lunch menu which had been 'hanging on' all afternoon and that is what it tasted like! If we had been told that only bar meals were served on Sunday evenings we would have been happy. To be fair we were not charged for the meals. Thank you for that Craiglands.

The service is always so SLOW. Coffee tastes ok if you can be bothered to wait 20 minutes plus! We are thinking of using a different place for our Saturday coffee.

Very nice food. Got the munch box and there was a decent amount in it. Kebab meat is fine a little dry maybe. The chicken wings and grilled chicken were very nice. Chips were good. Sauces nice as well just needed more.
