The setting is lovely but sadly the food is very mediocre and very over priced ! All the dishes we ordered were tasteless and very poorly presented . Having read previous reviews this seems to be a recurring theme but nothing appears to have been done to address the issues raised . Such a shame as expected so much more !

We often go to the Cowdray Cafe and Farm shop, frequently to eat as well as buy produce. We always enjoy going to the café, the staff are warm, polite, helpful and professional, the last few times we ordered the flat iron steak and a side of fries. The steak is cooked to perfection, simply served with chimichurri and salad with excellent skinny fries. It is the best steak of its type we have eaten in ages, it is sourced very locally and is very high quality, we savour each bite, eat slowly, and we can't get enough. The price is good, and the whole experience is a relaxing pleasure. See you there, we will definitely be back again soon.

Have enjoyed lunch midweek with friends before and very pleased with choices However very disappointed with lunch for 5 of us today. Ate outside as dogs with us and unfortunately plagued by wasps. Daughter in law had mackerel salad small amount with tomatoes and peppers only and other choices quite small such as calamari and small salad. Chicken Caeser Salads slightly better. As asked for more salad to go with mackerel charged for a house salad when could have added leaf salad to original. Chips both fries and large over cooked. With soft drinks and some coffee bill came to £80. The salad was taken off the bill after discussion. No one came during the meal to ask if our meal was enjoyable and fine. Not impressed and happy so definitely not up to higher standards I have experienced before. Saturday shouldn't make a difference and cafe was not that busy.

Service was shocking. Disorganised staff and all over the place. No consistency Ordered food that never arrived and got umpteen excuses about why it didn’t but no apology . Wasps are out of control. Clearly a wasps nest in the vicinity which makes it impossible to eat outside. Not going back. EVER.

Exceptional quality venue, with nice food and good service - is what I’d say about Cowdray Farm Shop & Cafe. When you compare this amazing setting with say, a cafe on the high street - Cowdray wins hands down. It’s just exquisitely put together, and with such a great ambiance and setting - it’s well worth a visit. The farm shop is very well stocked, with fresh vegetables (not organic), artisan produce and a meat butcher counter ~ all very nice and well worth a visit. The food in the cafe is good - I had the Southern Fried Chicken Brioche Burger - and for just £10, it was good value - however the chicken was dry and a little over-done, the triple cooked chips were pale and anemic looking - and a bit too big cut. I’ve had better - and if I was in charge of the kitchen, I’d pay attention to some of these details - and try to perfect these dishes, to refine them. The Chicken ~ cut it smaller, don’t overcook it. Same for the chips - but give them some colour and crunch. A final fry at 190 degrees should do it, but definitely cut the potatoes slightly smaller. I mean, they were just HUGE! That’s all I can say with a critical hat on, but overall it was a lovely lunch with family ~ in a beautiful setting. The service was attentive and punctual ~ and I’d definitely come back again. Overall, the price was very reasonable, and it’s well worth a visit.

We only visit once or twice a year, and on this occasion for the purpose of celebrating my sister’s Birthday. Overall, we enjoyed the food, and both the ambience and the enthusiasm of the young serving staff were much appreciated. However, we did have a minor issue which was not resolved at the time. We contacted the restaurant the following day with our issue, and this was dealt with entirely to our satisfaction by the manager, Emma. Her handling of this situation was first class, and for this reason alone, we wouldn’t hesitate to return again or wholeheartedly recommend the restaurant to our family and friends.

What a Gem we found on holiday. From the time of our arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady nothing was too much trouble she went above and beyond to meet my fussy food requirements. The food was lovely especially the Raspberry Jam which I then purchased from the shop along side many other products all reasonably priced. Cowdray Farm Shop and Cafe was very clean & tidy all the staff were lovely and the grounds clean and tidy. EXCELLENT we couldn't fault it and will return when visiting the area again.

As a local I have been here a few times, mainly bringing guests to visit the farm shop and cafe. It is not a cheap lunch and, yet again I am underwhelmed by the food and service. We waited an age to be seated while waiting staff walked past over ten times. They smiled but didn’t acknowledge that we were waiting. Eventually we were seated and given one menu.. between two. I had to get up and go and get another one. Is it really too much to have one each? We were offered and served drinks, no problem. We ordered two sandwiches - no granary bread left. What? You have a farm shop next door! Ok we chose sourdough. The sandwiches arrived with a bunch of leaves on the side. No dressing, no love, no care. Just leaves. The biggest horror was that in, what is presented as a quality establishment we were served sandwiches with cheap, margarine type spread that stuff that comes in huge plastic tubs. Reeeevolting. As a chef I find this really not ok. Cheap and average, very expensive. That’s it. Will not chance it again I’m afraid.

I love this place for a coffee before or after a dog walk & have had breakfast/brunch many times, as I did today. However while the setting is lovely, the coffee is excellent & the overall experience is usually an 8 or 9, I really wanted to post this review to say that all of this is despite the food being never bad but consistently extremely average - only a 5 or 6 at best. Much as I am a fan of the Cowdray Cafe I always leave wishing the food had been of a higher standard & being slightly surprised that for an organisation like the Cowdray Estate this is not the case.

Went for afternoon tea and cake with my friend and my grandchildren. Although the food and drink were very nice i did have an issue with the children’s outside play area. We sat outside so that we could see them but in order to be able for them to get to the play area they had to go round the courtyard and in through the cafe and through another door ! Seemed absolutely crazy when there was an opening right in front of the courtyard that had been blocked with pots of plants so nobody could get through!! I spoke to the lady who was serving and she said it was a safety issue!! The fact that young children were running through the cafe where staff were carrying hot food and drinks seemed far more of a safety issue to me !!

So I was fairly blown away to be presented with the real deal (tight foam from start to finish, with quality beans) in a LARGE china cup (another bonus). The young man who made it was barista-trained, (I had a word after), and I spotted the very serious coffee machine behind him. The coffee was fairly priced for the RARE product and lovely setting, by the polo field. Well done Cowdray, next time I will also try the full English!!

A very nice local shop and café. The staff has been really polite and friendly. We tasted some of the local cheeses as they recommended, they were delicious!

We stopped here on a sunny day and were able to get a table outside. A good range of food and drink was available ranging from sandwiches, and paninis to cooked dishes. Service was speedy and the servers were very happy and confident in their jobs We also tried the local pressed fruit drinks which were out of this world. The children's play area is currently closed but I imagine in more normal times it is a great place to bring children.Good free car parking

Very cute area especially on a sunny day, we had the oven baked pizzas and they were very good. Nice staff would recommend it’s worth visiting.

Protected by the beautiful South Downs, is the idyllic little town of Midhurst. Sitting on the outskirts of tbe town, and recognised by the tell-tale yellow windows of the far-stretching Cowdray Estate, is this little gem.Priced accordingly for its location and service, this lovely cafe (with exclusive shop and quaint express takeaway beside it) attracts a mixture of clientele from 'polite society' so £6+ for a sandwich is not too much to ask. If you want cheap and bulk-standard, leave this idyllic setting and venture into town. If you want a touch of luxury without overindulgence, park here (for free) and take in the atmosphere. My sandwich filling was very generous, very fresh and very welcome after a healthy walk in the beautiful countryside of West Sussex. My friend had the Persian Rice (so good, we asked for the recipe!) and a bowl of chips with blue cheese was a naughty extra we couldn't resist. We visited during a difficult restart for such businesses coming out of a pandemic lockdown, and were relieved at the ease and relaxed atmosphere of the system adopted for customer safety. I've tried to find criticism but can't (maybe laminate the menus so they could wipe and reuse, to save a little paper? Best I could come up with) so his is a positive review. The menu was a little reduced to accommodate necessary changes during the restart, but was still wonderfully varied. I look forward to the return of the full menu.Just as important as atmosphere, price and safety, was the fact that the staff appear to genuinely enjoy their work. I met the manageress, an unassuming young lady who clearly makes her staff as comfortable as her guests, adding to an atmosphere worthy of prices that are not extortionate, but a little above average. After all-This is not a roadside truckers Cafe, this is the home of Polo in the Heart of the South Downs National Park, this IS above average, but you'll feel you belong and you'll want to return. Visit the nearby ruins, watch the Polo, explore the old town (you might recognise it from Foyles War!) then come back for tea and cake.

Came with a friend today for a light bite. I chose a vegetarian sausage sandwich which was very nice and nice to have a sandwich that has something different from egg and cheese. At £6.50 just for the sandwich and no side salad or chips was too much. A lot of place charge £5 for a sandwich with nothing else with it and think that too much as well.

I ordered a mozzarella tomato and pesto sandwich. It came stuffed with rocket as well. I took it all, out, the subtle taste of mild mozzarella and tomato was overpowered by the bitter rocket. A really bad combination!

Is it really a year since I last visited ? Another good visit: very busy, with a good choice of Specials along with the standard menu. I had a creamy linguini with spinach and feta. Very filling but managed to find room for the last slice of carrot cake which was also good: not too oily with good icing. Decaf tea was a little disappointing but we were able to sit for ages and chat which was lovely. Staff very helpful, as previously, although large number of diners does lead to some delays.

Lunch Friday 28 Feb 20. Arrived just after 1pm and found all tables taken even though weather bad. However a table soon became free. Staff welcoming and friendly. There were three of us and we had Thai crab cakes which came with a rocket and mango salad plus I ordered a side of sweet potato fries. My wife had roasted butternut squash risotto and mother-in-law had egg mayo sandwich. We also had three hot drinks and Belgium waffles. Total £55. All food arrived quickly, was hot(not sandwich) and was absolutely delicious. We sat in table 1. Good choice on menu and really enjoyed our visit. Ice-cream on waffles really creamy. Farm shop interesting but quite expensive. Would definitely visit again.

This was our third visit to this busy litttle restaurant which is situated just outside Midhurst surrounded by beautiful countryside. It is busy but well organised by a Scots lassie, a comprehensive menu of interesting well presented tasty food, no wonder itis busy. The salt beef baguette was just as it should be, garnished with triple cooked chips and a colourfull salad garnish, my friend had a toasted sandwich and an Americano, myself a well made Latte. All in all another pleasant interlude.Adjoining the restaurant is a mini specialist food shop with a butchers of Harrods standards and being Friday a comprehensive fresh fish stall was outside.

Popped in for lunch following a walk to the Halnaker Windmill. Managed to get the last table available. I had the "lunchtime" size fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas and my partner had the gammon, egg and chips. Both were very good. The "lunchtime" size fish and chips was a perfect size. My partner then had the crumble and ice cream and I had a mini version with custard and a flat white coffee. All very good too. Friendly staff and a great menu. A good selection of alcohol free beers. Definitely one to visit again when in the area, would book in advance.

We popped in without a reservation on a Saturday lunchtime and luckily they had a table for us. The pub was buzzing with happy people, clearly lots of locals too which is always a good sign. We had three courses - hadn’t planned to but the food was just soooo good! The prawn cocktail was the best we’ve ever had, and mains were delicious. OH had sea bass and I had lambs liver. Both served piping hot and with fresh veg. One of my main beefs is when food isn’t hot enough. Not so here, well done Berkeley Arms. The sticky toffee pudding was to die for too. We live 20 mins away but we’ll most definitely be back!

Very disappointed in my Scrambled egg on brown toast, the egg had no taste very pale done in the microwave, and water on my plate made my barely toasted toast wet and soggy. Great pleasant staff. Service good but unfortunately the breakfast was horrible.

We often visit this Greggs whilst shopping in Chichester as their sausage rolls are the best. As I don’t drink dairy milk, in the past I’ve always had soya in little cartons. My husband asked for oat milk (my favourite) and to my pleasant surprise Greggs now offer oat milk as an alternative. So my order was for an Americano with oat milk on the side. My husband also mentioned “on the side”. This is because I don’t take much so need to add it myself. So when the lady served an Americano with oat included (frothed up, yuk) (Since when does an Americano have warm frother milk in it?) I said, no I ordered oat milk on the side. Stroppy cow said she didn’t hear that (we said it twice) and that anyway they don’t serve oat milk on the side. So I’ve paid for a coffee that I can’t drink as it’s too milky. I really expected her to say “sorry madam, let me do another one for you”. I mean, for the sake of customer satisfaction, just pour it away and serve me what I’ve asked for! Is it too much to ask to have oat milk on the side? This is a first for us. Every other coffee establishment we visit serves it cold, and on the side when asked. She has no customer skills at all. A right stroppy cow. We were disgusted.

The friendliness of everyone especially the chef was outstanding. The food was simple but very good quality. The location was outstanding. Highly recommended and we will be sure to stop here again.
