Cow & Oak Freehouse and Terrace in Worthing

Just had a lovely meal at The Cow and Oak. I highly recommend eating there. Tasty meals that don’t let you go home hungry, unlike some of the high end restaurants in Worthing. Attentive and happy staff, who can’t do enough for their customers. Gena our waitress was friendly, happy and efficient and gave an excellent service. We are going to have to try a Sunday roast, as they are apparently to die for.

We booked for a Friday evening as it was our anniversary. The menu was limited due to the COVID pandemic but was good old fashioned pub food.There was a nice atmosphere. All the tables were served due to the current restrictions. The food was very good, hot and the portions were huge!Good selection of ales and lager and an awesome range of gins.Well done to the team in such a difficult time. We will definitely be back.

I had a poor dinner here, had to wait nearly an hour for our food, it felt like they had forgotten about us we were sat outside. There are not enough staff working for adequate service but the staff that were there tried there hardest to make things better. I believe this establishment is poorly managed. Even the staff weren’t happy with us waiting but they’ve had to try to mange it themselves. For someone who works in the industry I know it is hard but at the establishment we get the food out a soon as possible.

Paid a lunchtime visit to this pub for a meal and really enjoyed it. I ordered the chicken and avocado burger, but it wasn’t really a burger – it was a brioche bun with avocado, grilled chicken, tomato slice, crispy onions, and sweet cure bacon. A very generous plateful! My friend had the Meze which arrived on a sizeable plank and was very colourful. My other friend had fish and chips, more accurate to describe it as a whale and chips! I do like to have good value for money, and I would say this pub provides it well and truly.

Staff were very accomadating, dogs were allowed in. Sunday roast was amazing, great quality. Would highly recommend.

Saturday afternoon lunch ! Totally fantastic, opted for chicken breast burger cooked wonderfully and very tasty. Fish ginger sandwich and a halloumi and red pepper burger. Side of pigs and blankets Service was great and food of the wall!

Just come home from an evening out with friends to this lovely establishment. The food was so so good. We all enjoyed what we had. It was presented nicely. The two girls behind the bar were great. Friendly and efficient. We will definitely be returning

Hadn’t booked but managed to squeeze 3 of us in even though super busy. So glad they did. 2 of us had a roast dinner and the other a burger. Great food, couldn’t fault a thing will definitely be back !

About 8 of us met for drinks and food. Food excellent, great range of drinks. A busy Friday evening. So the music was turned up so that it could be heard over all the talking. Result was everyone shouting just to be heard. Impossible to hear people sat the other side of the table, so almost impossible to hold a conversation with anyone. So a nice evening ruined by people shouting to each other and the music trying to drown them out. Not sure we'd all want to meet there again. Great shame!

Delicious veggie sharing board with chips, good selection of food. Price not bad either. Barmaid seemed friendly.

Have been popping in for about a year and having the amazing burger and 'real' home made chips for lunch. Today though what a disappointment. They have had a chef change. The burger was tiny, lost in the bun, the chips were greasy and artificial, the salad was smothered in olive oil. I asked for my burger pan fried as I don't like chargrilled taste so the burger was pan-fried but the bun was all chargrilled. Sorry to have to write this review guys but it was awful. I did mention to the staff at the time

Loved this pub - went for the first time last night and had a brilliant time. Jody was exceptional, as were the rest of the bar staff. Really great music choice, atmosphere was brilliant, smoking area nicely heated and the Prosecco was not bad either!

Called in twice for a quick quiet drink. The first time it was quiet and relaxing with nice Motown music in the background. The 2nd time it was packed and the music had been turned up to deafening levels and we walked out.It had been raining on the 2nd visit and the ridiculous carpet leading to the entrance was awash and our feet were soaked.

First visit with my partner and we had the roast beef and belly pork both fantastic. Crackling was amazing on the pork belly and perfect Yorkshire’s. Beef melted in the mouth. Followed it up with an excellent cheeseboard. Staff were very friendly and attentive. We will be back!!

Visited on Sunday afternoon with my son. We ordered the Roast Chicken with a side of sticky pigs in blankets. Amazing!!!Absoluteamazing Absolutelyamazing amazing

Second time visiting and again waited over 30 mins for the food when we had stated we are on a lunch break! Poor service! Asked for it in a box to leave and had a eye roll!!! Rude staff and wont be returning. WE WERE THE ONLY 3 CUSTOMERS....SHOCKING

We only came for drinks and it was extremely busy which is always a good sign. The front outside seating area was completely packed so we headed to the back garden where fortunately there was a table for us. The benches were lovely, with bright cushions and flowers on the wall. It was a really nice environment for an afternoon drink. The bar was very well stocked with gins. My partner had a rhubarb gin and tonic and we were pleasantly surprised to find it was served with a garnish of strawberries and rhubarb. I had a ginger beer. Whilst we were there, the pub had its Spanish Saturday event on. The menu looked very tasty and the food smelt very good. The interior of the pub was really cosy and appealing too. I will definitely be going back!

A real pleasant pub. The term 'you cant polish a turd' does NOT apply. Originally, the royal oak was very clicky. I was sceptical on arrival, but I know how well the landlord changed the other bar in Worthing. What a transformation. This guy knows what he's doing. The staff are fantastic and the seating area outside is really relaxing.Well done. Keep up the amazing work.See you soon.

Some of our meals were mediocre. Other than that, we had a lovely experience. It was very quiet and was quite nice to be able to hear each other speak. Good music was being played and the pub was airy and bright.We ordered drinks and they were presented very well, really went the extra mile for the gins!Food wise - we ordered 2 burgers with all the extra - feedback was that it was very delicious and the best brisket my wife has had to date, which beats some pretty decent American restaurants! I had calamari and cod sandwich, all ok, but slightly greasy. The focaccia didn’t have much taste in the way of rosemary, so perhaps something to work on. The ham, egg and chips was again the same, just ok. Reasonable prices for food and wouldn’t be put off to come here again. It may be nice to expand the menu to include a few more main meals. We were also told at 9pm that they were not serving puddings, so they lost out on money for 3 fairly simple puddings. We will definitely be back for drinks, but not as sure about the food.

Couldn't be happier to have chosen the Cow and Oak for my partners surprise 30th Birthday party. We had 45 guests and the space was perfect for this number, you could even squeeze more. The funky decor feels very homely, the staff were amazing, the garden space was just the right size and perfect being sheltered from the elements and heated. Choice of drinks behind the bar is very good and everyone commented on how great the food looked and tasted! Thank you very much for being so accommodating. Great venue 5* service! I will certainly be visiting again with friends for drinks and food. Location is also perfect, just across the road from the seafront in central worthing.

The Bedlam Brewery pale ale is in absolutely rank condition. Cloudy and sour. Returned to snotty barman resorted to lager. Royal Oak used to be a proper pub.

This is the first time here since the pub has been refurbished . We all had the same for lunch the foccacia sandwich, 2 of us had breaded fish and the other one had goats cheese and very nice it was too. Reasonably priced for £7 which included fries and salad garnish. Friendly and helpful staff. Enjoyed our visit.

We had a very nice lunch here. The staff were very attentive and friendly. It was quite busy and well worth planning ahead to reserve a table at busy times. Will definitely be back.

We didn't dine this trip, but it is in the diary to try as the menu looked good. Interesting interior, lively chatty bar staff even though they had just opened. House gin was Bombay which was great - there was a good selection.

I arrived just for drinks however I seen another customers food so decided to give it a try.The menu had a good selection of reasonably priced food.we ordered and our food was cooked to perfection.The staff were very welcoming and pleasant.

We visited in the evening and were met with a warm and cozy atmosphere. The lighting and music really set the perfect tone for hiding from the chilly evening with a pint and some friends! As the Danish would say this pleasant pub encapsulates Hygge!

Attractive pub. Very well refurbished. Staff very welcoming. Menu & food looked good & although we didn’t eat there we sneaked a look at customer orders as they appeared. One issue though - please clean the wine glasses better before serving. Nice glasses but first one had remains of someone’s lipstick but was covered in salt marks from dishwasher. Politely changed but second one was also covered in salt/detergent marks. I’m not expecting crystal glasses but at nearly £7 a glass that attention to detail will make a difference. Didn’t stop me drinking it of course.
