Courtyard Restaurant at Ox Pasture Hall Hotel in Scarborough

Went for dinner to meet with family. Starter - small portions, chicken liver 'parfait' not parfait quite coarse pate but nice enough. Only one small piece of toast for 2 chunks of pate, so proportions wrong. Butter still in the paper pat thing straight out of the box. Main - lamb shank £6 extra. Mash cold, meat just warm enough. Veggies boiled / bland. No offer of extra gravy or anything else for that matter, the food was placed down and staff disappeared without asking if any diner wanted anything else. My daughters fish pie was tiny - like a child's portion. However she's 16 and we paid full price. Didn't have a desert so can't comment on those. Service - I didn't want a drink until I'd decided what I was eating. When the food orders were taken I wasn't asked bur assumed wrongly that the waitress would come back. She didn't, so my food arrived before I was able to ask for some wine. It all felt really rushed, and at the end they started to move tables around next to us, assuming for the breakfast service. We wouldn't go again. It's fairly ordinary 'pub style grub' which there is nothing wrong with until you remember how much you're paying for it. Not nearly as good as it tells itself or its customers it is.

Good food in a lovely hotel where the staff could not do enough. Special call out to Mike at breakfast who was exceptionally helpful with my late arriving guests. Dog friendly area too. Dinner was good too with a cozy pub/bar area before and after. And ten minutes utes from the beach.

Having looked at the sample menu online I convinced my hubby we should try this restaurant instead of our favourite. The vegan menu did not exist and the vegitarian choices were poor, the menu was different from the one online. I ordered a starter, to be told there was a menu error and the the starter would just be tomatoes and no goats cheese. I don't actually like tomatoes or asparagus, which was the other vegetarian option. The waitress said chef could make it with mozzarella. So in essence I had a ball of cold mozzarella for starter. Main course, again two options one with butternut squash and the other asparagus. I didnt think I was a fussy vegetarian, but I hate squash, asparagus, olives, tomatoes (on their own) and truffle. I love all other veg! The waitress had said the risotto could be vegan, so I went for that (no real description on the menu). It arrived - asparagus risotto. I'm not sure what else was in it because neither my husband or I could identify it and the taste was not good. Dessert was yorkshire rhubarb parkin. The parkin was hard and the rhubarb salty. Over all I had a very disappointing meal. On the other hand everything my husband ordered he loved, presentation was good. He is not vegetarian and was very pleased with his food. Service was lovely from the servers. I haven't eaten in a restaurant with such poor vegetarian choice for a very long time. Surely a good chef wants to please all diners? I wish I hadn't convinced hubby to try this restaurant. Even though he enjoyed his food, he would have still preferred our favourite 😢

Outstanding Sunday lunch. Food was exceptional, best Sunday lunch ever had in a restaurant. Everything was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be returning as live locally. Staff were also super nice and efficient.

Very Disappointing food very average and not worth the money. Wouldn’t go again. Small portions and not very hot had to wait a long time for the food to come and we were the only two there.

Very disappointed although we had high hopes. The restaurant was completely empty except for us which was very strange esp. since this was a Saturday lunchtime and the restaurant and the setting is lovely. The £29 menu was awful and it took us a long time to come to any decision about what to eat. When asked "are you spoit for choice?" my husband replied "honestly, no". I had the smoked trout for a starter which was supposed to come with fish roe. Instead they substituted a ton of capers! Yes - I did notice!!! It was so salty it was incredibly difficult to eat. The main course constituted a piece of aubergine, a big slab of feta cheese and some undercooked veg. Not what anyone would consider a dish of any sorts. My husband's starter was hot prawns on a cold salad of badly chopped lettuce with a ton of dressing - not great as you can imagine. His main was a pie which was ok - I suspect just out of the microwave - and some undercooked chips. He had a glass of white wine which wasn't chilled! There were so many staff there - must cost them a fortune to keep this going with no customers. Now we've been I totally understand why this place is deserted. What a bizarre experience.

Has a lovely meal here for our 4th Anniversary. We married here in 2019 and were a little worried about going back as heard it wasn’t as good these days . However food and service were excellent had a really good evening . Staff were lovely .

Having booked on the promise of new management and an exciting new chef we were hopeful of a lovely lunch. However arriving in the pouring rain the entrance was not well signposted and we eventually found our way into a deserted bar. A polite waitress showed us into the silent restaurant and presented us with a cafeteria type menu. The starters were uninspiring so we went straight for the main course and decided the hake looked lovely accompanied by “summer vegetables”. The side dishes on offer were “seasonal” vegetable, chips of salad. Now I generally think salad is not a great accompaniment to anything with a sauce and questioned what the seasonal vegetables might be only to be told basically the same as the summer vegetables leaving only a choice of chips! Now the hake was nice if a little small but I really think £4.50 for a tiny bowl of French fries is a little extreme. Clearly I was still hungry and was looking forward to the desert menu. However despite the website clearly stating everything is made on site we were told actually no the deserts were not homemade and therefore we left having one course with only one other couple in attendance. Sadly even if the new chef is phenomenal I won’t be visiting again. Actually having failed to park in Scarborough itself we ended up at Deans Garden centre where I had a lovely homemade Cherry cheesecake !

We visited here on 30th July 2023, at the invitation of our cousin who lives locally at Hackness Hall, for Sunday Lunch and we had great expectations especially after being guests at a wedding here in 2022. Our resevation was for 13.30 and the well appointed & inviting dining area was unoccupied when we first arrived! However, soon after, we were accompanied by two other tables for two & four respectively; so only 9 diners. Eventually we ordered from the set Lunch Menu; one starter, three mains & one cheese board. The starter of pressed lamb belly, though relatively megre, arrived and was enjoyed. The mains of two roast beef and one sea trout followed. All of the mains were luke warm, the roast potatoes over cooked, and again luke warm, to the point of being black and with overcooked & crunchy, what I belive were, parsnips? Sadly, the roast beef was thick cut and exceptionally tough to the point that one serving of beef had to be left uneaten! Additionally we had to request additional gravy. The dining area was troubled with wasps; a total of seven were ejected out of the windows throughout our stay, although many others survived. We decided against sweets; requested our bill and made our objections known to the Maitre d' who, at our tequest, removed the charge for one of the inferior roast beef lunches. The table of two expressed their disappointment as leaving their table; the table of four also complained to the Maitre d'. This experience was inexcusible and could so easily have been avoided with a little extra care & attention. Sadly we cannot leave a favourable review, will not return and will not be recommending to friends & family.

Went for a birthday lunch with family and was a bit disappointed overall. Not with the food itself, which was lovely, nor with the surroundings which are beautiful. However, the choice of beers in the bar was extremely limited and there was hardly anyone there, which meant that the atmosphere was non existent. I thought I saw tumbleweed blowing across the car park! I suspect that the establishmet is set up more for functions than family dining.

Hilarious. Most staff really lovely, n ed to remember they are not doing us a favour serving us. Fabulous wines and food. Menu changes and bit disorganised service, had to self serve. Delicious food made it worth it. Would definitely recommend

A special occasion meal which ended as a disappointing ‘fuel ‘ stop. The walk to and from car park is unlit, dark and probably a trip hazard for those unsteady on their feet . The place was not at all busy , only hotel in-house guests on a meal package seemed to be eating there ,along with dogs , we like dogs but don’t want them scrabbling around us at dinner in what is trying to sell itself as a high end place with corresponding prices. Food did not live up to the words on the menu , the vegetarian option was poor , my partner’s main was ok . Wine was good , some interesting choices there. Waiting staff efficient but detached. If staying and eating there on a BB & EM deal I’m sure it’s fine but it’s not if the place is selling itself as a dining venue .

Friendly, relaxed, delicious food, a lovely evening! I thought this might pale in comparison to the Thomas Carr restaurant but it absolutely didnt- the food and service were excellent.

We had dinner at the restaurant as part of a family celebration. The whole experience was absolutely incredible. Both from a food and a service perspective. I didn't catch his name but the service from the maître d was amazing. He made the dining experience feel very special, from seating us by the fire for pre-drinks and taking our food orders from there, to the level of service from him and the other waiter at the table, we were blown away. The food was equally fantastic. Specifically the quality of the food on the vegan menu really impressed. Overall it was a great experience If we're ever in the area again we'll be sure to visit

Family meal for 6. Told off by Maitre de for being late, although hadn't expected to sit down immediately at 12 o'clock. Poor table lay out [ bracket shaped against a window, no opportunity to talk to all the party. Was told no other option although a table that would easily have accommodated 6 was being used as a clearing station. The courtyard did look pretty though. Little to no decor on table, for the price expected table cloth, water glasses and a centre piece. The decorations that were there were faux, real shame as it's a country hotel with plenty of greenery in the grounds. Incorrect desserts delivered and returned. No petit fours with coffee. Staff pleasant but perfunctory. Fire in bar was great and some lovely guests with dogs 🐕 good to know.

The kitchen was struggling to cope even though the restaurant was only half full. Understaffed and full of mistakes. The starters were nice but the main courses were bland and the veg raw - the food differed from the descriptions on the menu. Quite expensive for what was on offer

Lovely Sunday lunch, friendly and helpful staff. We are looking forward to having our Christmas lunch at Ox Pasture.

Recently visited with four friends for Sunday Lunch. Prior to Covid I lunched fairly regularly at Courtyard on a Sunday and I was delighted that things were still so good on my return. From a warm welcome by the lovely Manager Jay, to pleasant and attentive waiting staff there was nothing to fault. Lunch and pudding were delicious - Roast Pork with all the trimming. The food was of a very high standard, nicely presented, hot and altogether yummy and served in beautiful surroundings. We all had a lovely afternoon and look forward very much to another visit. Thank you Jay and your Team.

We had an evening meal here. All the staff, very polite and friendly and adhered to covid measures. My husband had steak pie and said it was the best he had ever eaten. I was very happy with my lamb dish. Even if we were not staying at the hotel we would book restaurant again.

We went to the Courtyard Restaurant at Ox pasture hall this evening for a meal to celebrate not only my husbands Birthday but our 30th Wedding Anniversary. It was not our first visit to the restaurant but tonight was a huge disappointment. The evening started well. We were a few minutes early and went into the bar. The barman was very attentive and extremely helpful. It was when we went into the restaurant itself that the evening went south. We were seated and after a short time someone came to take our food order. I ordered Gluten free and when my starter came it had a large crouton. I chose to put the crouton to the side of the plate. My main course was steak and although half of it was very nicely cooked the other half was inedible gristle, the thrice cooked chips were unpalatable and I left them. The plates were taken away. No one asked us if we needed another drink or if the food was ok. We sat for about 30 minutes waiting for someone to come and ask if we wanted dessert, coffee or another drink but no one came. Eventually we got our masks and coats on and went in search of someone to pay so that we could go home for coffee. When my husband finally got to pay the bill he was asked if everything was ok and he mentioned everything I have mentioned in this review. The waiter's response was " Oh dear sorry about that" The cost means nothing to us if we get a great experience. We didn't ask for or expect special treatment but we did expect good service and sadly this was not forthcoming on this occasion and it spoilt what was supposed to be a very special occasion for us. Our table was booked for 7pm and we were home by 8.30. and we live 25 minutes away!

Ate quite a few meals here during our stay and we were never let down. The quality of the food has always been excellent, and despite the strange situation lately is still as good. Exceptional service, I would highly recommend.

Just got back from staying at this amazing hotel. This is our third year visiting and we are still in love with the place. Excellent staff service, accommodation and the food is amazing excellent attention to detail. Love it! Location is lovely too. We stayed two nights this time and brought our dog this time as a dog friendly hotel. He loved his cooked sausage at breakfast time every morning. We stopped in the Helmsley Suite 29. Fantastic! They both stayed weekend if 10/11th jan and stayed dinner bed and breakfast!They both thoroughly enjoyed the food in the restaurant, the hospitality shown by Nick, Jay and the team who work there. We visit Ox Pasture Hall frequently for Sunday lunch and often take friends with us. We have never been disappointed with a meal there yet. The staff are friendly and courteous. And with walks around the grounds afterwards, everyone enjoys the experience.

Lovely location and very peaceful. Large rooms and ours had a four poster with the most comfortable bed.

For breakfast I’d recommend the full Yorkshire breakfast where you can choose from (or have all) the full English classics plus a choice of eggs - I’m not sure what makes it a Yorkshire breakfast, it must be the quality Yorkshire produce. The portion size is small though (one sausage,one egg). Service was efficient and helpful. There’s also a continental breakfast for you to fill up on pastries, cereals and toast. Enjoy!

Had a really lovely visit, my sister and I went for afternoon tea with my baby niece the server especially was so lovely and accommodating and the food was lovely will certainly be back again!

We had an absolutely lovely experience. Arrived after walking in the cold all day to be asked to sit next to a lovely warm fire and wait for our table whilst having drinks. Once the table was ready, our friendly waiter James took us over to the restuarant and himself, Emma and Jay took really good care of us, nothing was too much trouble. The food was exquisite, the lamb melted in the mounth and gnocchi were very flavoursome. We truly relaxed, there wasn't any rushing. Would come back again in a heartbeat.

Having visited for lunch today I would have to agree with other reviews that this is definitely one of the best places to eat in the area. We were welcomed on arrival into warm comfortable surroundings. The food was delicious and well presented with a good selection to choose from. The service was excellent. Annie was very attentive.

This restaurant is a fantastic place to visit. The staff are very good, attentive and helpful. The food at all meals was excellent in quality, presentation and most importantly taste which never seemed to waver. It really is a surprise that something so good can at times be a hidden gem. We had a 4 daybreak and it was always excellent and the atmosphere was delightful.

We visited this restaurant en-route to Scarborough for a short break to celebrate my wife's birthday. We are a family of four adults. We were shown to our table and introduced to our waiter who proved to be very courteous, efficient, knowledgeable and looked after us very well throughout our visit.

Really friendly and helpful staff. Delicious Afternoon tea and wonderful surroundings! A lovely birthday gift to me which I will be keeping in mind for friends and family this Christmas. Couldn't reccommend them enough! :)

We enjoyed a relaxed afternoon tea in the sunshine surrounded by the beautiful hotel gardens. We dined under one of the thatched gazebos. The service was very good and friendly, the food well presented and tasty.

Excellent food and service, really liked the complementary starter? My husband had the lamb which he said was brilliant and I had salmon which was cooked really just right, all in all a good experience.

We stayed for four nights. The hotel is in a beautiful old house, the location is very pretty. Staff were very friendly, would greet you and were always happy to help. We felt as if we got to know them. Breakfast was spot on; a continental spread with fantastic fruit and cereal selection plus locally produced cooked breakfast which was great. Dinner was very nice also--we were served freshly baked bread as an appetiser. All-round brilliant stay.

The desserts are just getting better with the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake just spectacular

The Hotel and grounds are beautiful and set in a stunning location. It was a truly wonderful and enjoyable experience and we will definitely be back!

What an amazing venue. I have my wedding booked here next year and so wanted to try the food. Everything was done perfect. It was unbelievable. The staff cannot do anymore. They are so polite and provide the best service possible. Very highly recommend anyone to try this place.

We took my husbands parents for afternoon tea. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They took their time to explain all the sandwiches and cakes to us. All were very nice. We had far too much so they even boxed it up for us to take away. We ate in the conservatory. It was a lovely setting.

Great value Sunday Lunch. We had a great variety on the listed of food for our Sunday lunch, something for everyone. The whole lunch was served in a friendly enviroment.Staters we a delight the beef and pork lunch were served very hot and perfectley cooked.

We initially visited to make sure we could find our way to Ox Pasture Hall, for a winter wedding we've been invited to early next year, so we thought we'd visit in the summer while the longer daylight hours were still on. To cut a long story short, what should have been a brief visit for directions, turned out to be an impromptu 2 1/2 hours evening out!

Well, all the old cliches - great staff, fantastic food, immaculate restaurant, even a lovely garden to walk around an enjoy, but all true! Six of us for Sunday lunch, a really good menu, food cooked to perfection by a chef who really cares, and then served by staff with a smile! If you want a great relaxing enjoyable meal out then you’d have a job to improve on this. Oh, and finally, great value for money as well, especially if your of a certain age

Stayed for 3 nights at this pleasant country hotel and found the accommodation - a suite - excellent in every respect. The hotel is dog friendly and the staff were unfailingly friendly, professional and helpful. I can recommend it thoroughly. If I had a quibble, it was the limited range of options at breakfast.

now this i call my local as i go as often as i can for sunday lunch cant fault it in any way for food service and value.see you soon.

lovely location with beautiful gardens. came with my friend for afternoon tea. very accommodating and helpful, friendly staff. I requested a gluten and dairy free meal (make sure this is requested at time of booking as it is cooked fresh to order) which was superb and well catered for my needs. I felt my dietary requirements were well met and I did not miss out on the beautiful cakes and scones which were freshly baked and still warm. I will certainly be back to try other food from the menu.

My wife and I have been for dinner once before and were very impressed by the welcome...the food (wow) and the overall experience was superb..so we decided to have a family Sunday lunch for initially 8 then changed to 9 which was not a problem. As catering for a large party normally disappoints but not for this restaurant from the phone booking the service was second to none and the lunch was out of this world and the portion size beat me...starter and main £18 or £15 for senior citizens ..I had the ham hock which melted in the mouth then a little appetizer which was a little soup which was free then the main course I opted for the pork and I must say it was fantastic...my wife who is gluten free there were specially made Yorkshire puddings and nothing at all was too.much trouble. This place needs to be full every week with a waiting list! I will be going again. If I can get a table. Keep up the good work

Visited for Saturday lunch this time and not disappointed. Just a lovely meal, excellent service and extremely good value for money. It’s also nice to take a turn around pond after lunch. Just love it here.

A group of 6 of us visited the Ox Pasture on two occasions for lunch in May and June this year and were really impressed with the surroundings, the service and most importantly the food. Everything was of the highest order and we can give this our strong recommendation.

The Hotel is only a few miles out of Scarborough, yet in a quiet and peaceful situation. The attention of the staff is second to none, not over the top, but makes you feel welcome.The Sunday lunch is very special, especially with the Seniors' price!

Wonderful venue with amazing food and a great team. Wife and I utilised the private dining facility, in the oak room, which was really special. Staff were brilliant from first contact, throughout service and to close of the evening. Our meal was incredible too. Just wished we had booked to stay over! Top marks for a top team... Highly recommend.

This was our third visit to Ox Pasture for Sunday lunch. In my opinion the restaurant just gets better. We were there for my mothers birthday and were seated by the window in the conservatory with a lovely view of the garden. We had a fantastic meal with attentive service, my mother was made to feel very special. I would highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to a returning soon.

A beautiful setting, yet only a few minutes outside Scarborough. The service is second to none, and the roast beef and trimmings delicious. Very good value, especially for seniors!

Called in for lunch with family. We were too early for lunch but the manager was extremely welcoming and got us tea and coffee whilst we waited. Food was delicious and service was exemplary. We will definitely go again!

This special occasion was memorable for the location, exceptional service & of course, the amazing food! Attention to detail & the flavour combinations were sublime. A feast for the eyes and palette. A suprise birthday cake, personalised for our Son made everything complete. This is our first choice for a special meal, & is highly recommended.

Visited recently for the first time with my husband and we weren't disappointed. The hotel is set in a beautiful rural location. We had drinks in the bar on arrival and relaxed in one of the sitting rooms.

Have lived in Scarborough for nearly 50 years and to my shame this was only my second visit.

My wife and I visited here on a Friday lunchtime. The first thing we noticed was how friendly and attentive the staff were. There was a wedding on yet we certainly weren't made to feel less of a priority.

Good menu choices. Excellent food lovely clean and fresh looking. Staff especially James who was very attentive. Although we initially stopped for a drink we returned in the evening for a meal. Will definitely be returning but this time will stay over.

Food and service were excellent. Good choice market menu and whilst not needed on this visit the Vegan menu was just as extensive as the main menu, a welcome change to just the odd one or two choices for those not eating meat. I shall be able to bring vegetarian friends somewhere they too can enjoy fine dining. Extensive wine list was impressive. Very attentive staff, nothing too much trouble. The food was of a high standard in terms of quality and presentation, and crucially hot and tasty. There will definitely be return visits!

Looking for a restaurant that could accommodate the access needs of elderly parents we found Ox Pasture Hall. The team are so very friendly and helpful that we quickly felt at ease. We sat at a beautiful table in the conservatory bathed in the May sunshine. Our meals were well presented and delicious - chicken for my parents and salmon stir fry for us. What makes Ox Pasture Hall so special however is the staff. Excellent attention to detail and a non-stuffy style. We will be returning.

it was our first visit for sunday lounch we dine out a lot we thought we had found the best in our local area untill we visited OX PASTURES and they have supassed any thing in the area for food quality and professional service and value for money we cant recomend them enough, looking forward to our next visit.

The staff led by Jay cannot do enough to make your visit memorable. The menu and quality of food just gets better!
