Nice national trust house and grounds. Can’t review house or formal garden as not allowed in with dogs which is annoying. Brilliant on site walks some of which are quite hilly to say the least. Restaurant delivered nice hot food but it’s so expensive as is the norm now for NT places.

Well worth a visit if not for all the other lovely items within the house, but to see the incredibly interesting Italian ebony walnut carved cabinet, complete with secret cubbyholes! The lovely volunteers will show you the secret containers within, if you ask nicely. Huge thanks to the female volunteer (you know who you are!) who shared her discovery for the first time of the cabinet with us! It made our whole day and felt so exciting! Suggest - like the spider in the bath, a few little trinkets or surprises are placed within the cubbyholes for future visitors to discover. Mushrooms on toast made a super late lunch too.

I’ll start with the positive which is we enjoyed the gardens and the house. This review isn’t really about the barn food. My partner had a pasty which was clearly reheated in the microwave which makes them very flaccid and the pastry soggy. I had what was described as loaded skins with cheese and bacon however what turned up clearly hadn’t been cooked today and had again been reheated in the microwave. The cheese was so hard you couldn’t apart from taste know it was cheese and it was very difficult to identify the bacon amongst it the potato had a greyish tinge to it. My in-laws had wedges with cheese and chives these again clearly have been reheated in the microwave but at least you could see the cheese was melted and it looked like cheese. The coffee was okay I had a hot chocolate and it was the large luxury however the milk in the chocolate was not very hot so it was more of a warm hot chocolate. Seems very disappointing as having an oven and cooking things in it doesn’t seem to be that difficult with the items that they had at least a warming area that kept things hot. Certainly wouldn’t eat there again

Cotehele is set in a wonderful location. The interior of the house contained a number of excellent historical artefacts. The gardens, although not extensive, were still very enjoyable and a great place to sit and soak in the marvellous views across the Tamar. The restaurant provided delicious snacks and lite bites. There is a bonus in visiting the Wharf and the Old Mill. Sadly, the Mill is not operational at the moment due to last year's storm damage to the leat supplying water. However, I have seen it working on a previous visit and it is a must see attraction. I understand the NT will get it back in full working order asap. Do visit if in the area. It is a little jewel nestling on the River Tamar.

Was dragged here somewhat unenthusiastically - not a great fan of old houses - but this is so much more - was so impressed I actually joined the National Trust - the main house is a little dull - not improved by endless rather drab tapestries on the wall - the staff are very friendly and informative - but the garden and tea rooms are so much better!! Also leave time to go to the Quay - it is almost a separate site - with its own pub - and great river views.

Spent a day here. The house is absolutely splendid and there are some lovely walks around the extensive grounds. It was raining on the day we went but as long as you are equipped with at least an umbrella you will be fine. Stout shoes would be recommended for the walks. Several coffee shops dotted around. Signposting leaves a bit to be desired but otherwise great.

The grounds around cotehele are beautiful, you can’t fault the hard work that has been put into these grounds but I’m afraid to say the same can’t be said for the cafe down at the quay. I fully understand the regulations surrounding COVID-19 but if you expecting people to part with their money you could at least supply bins for the disposal cups and additional staff inside the cafe. Having a one in one out system is perfect but the queue outside was very long and moving very slow! After waiting for such a long time I was then disappointed to find the the coffee machine was broken and told it would be broken for at least another two weeks. This is not what I would have expected from the NT, I’m sure there are ways of getting 24 hr repairs to these appliances if you are prepared to pay. So I’m afraid to say my day out was ruined by little things that may cost to rectify but are essential to put NT back on the top of my list. Thank you

I recently visited Cotehele - as required, I booked a ticket online in advance and arrived at my allocated time. There is a very large orchard and beautiful gardens. However, the restaurant (the Barn?) provided very slow service, with long lines and a 25 minute queue to be served. This was unacceptable and detracted from the visit. Otherwise, a pleasant visit. Please note that googlemaps make take you on some of the very narrow single track roads. It may be useful to research the best route to Cotehele, if this is a concern for you.

The restaurant at Cotehele House has always been a pleasant place to eat. The restaurant is a reasonable size, it's clean and tidy, the staff are friendly and helpful. There is plenty of choice on the menu, I had the courgette meal which was very tasty but I think the portions are quite small. It's on a level site so wheelchair access shouldn't be a problem. The toilets are outside and across the courtyard from the restaurant. There are tables available outside to sit from the restaurant. The food and drinks were a reasonable price.

We visited Cotehele house, Quay & Mill today. All were impressive and really informative and interesting. We had lunch in the cafe and were really disappointed. I had the pea and mint soup which was a n a small bowl, and had so much pepper in it nearly took my head off!! (And I like pepper)! My partner had the flatbread and goats cheese which at £7 we expected to be sufficient for lunch. It was not. The flatbread was literally the size of an American pancake and the goats cheese portion was ridiculously small. I’ve read several reviews on his cafe and am surprised that this place has not been improved by now. I guess they rely on NT good reputation. I would recommend cotehele but this cafe needs work.

One of my favourite places to visit . Set in the Tamar Valley hidden from view is this beautiful National Trust property . Long winding narrow lanes lead you down to The Quay and The Mill , climb up the hill to The house garden and barn all cared for so beautifully .watch out for the spy hole at the top of the house giving a view of the front hall below very useful when hiding fugitives in The Civil War . The gardens in Springtime are sublime trailing all the way back down to the river below . Not for the elderly or feinthearted but the best . Lunch or tea and your visit is complete , I like the tearoom on the Quay best but there is a restaurant at the house plus NT shop . I visit every time I'm in Cornwall .

On going to the counter to place our order the young man very rudely told us they shut at 4 & by his manner implied "so I'm not serving you"! As it was only 3.45pm I really don't see how we couldn't have had the tea & cake. We didn't need anything cooked! He made us feel so unwelcome & uncomfortable that we left feeling very upset. I'm not well & needed a warming drink. Had the young man told us in a pleasant manner that they would be closing shortly it may have been less upsetting. Visited today. Wonderful staff in reception extremely sympathetic and helpful to the fact we had our elderly Labrador with us and needed an easy place to walk her cannot say enough about how helpful the ladies on reception were. However in the cafe not so good.... Service in Cotehele's cafe today definitely missed the mark with the waitress simply not listening when I asked for a menu. Her response of "they are on the tables" was repeated twice at me even when I told her it was not. Clearly I was lying?!! The final straw (and I am a very patient person) was when she even asked her colleague to confirm that menus were on the tables! Perhaps she should reflect a little on the fact that the customer may actually be right and try to be a little more helpful in future - I found her attitude so annoying I had to walk away even when her colleague then tried to help (too late!) so we did not have anything to eat or drink here at all! Another visitor observed this and told me the menu was not that good anyway so we were not missing anything. That I do not know. But the waitress's attitude completely took the edge off our visit today which really is a shame.

Went here in late April on a sunny but chilly day. I hadn't been since I was 7 and didn't remember a lot of the house but there were certain bits that i could recall upon seeing them again. Beautiful, Historical, house with such lovely grounds. Had a relaxed tour and also caught the shuttle bus down to the Quay. A memorable day.

We walked to the tea room from Calstock around the edges of the Cotehele estate. There are simply masses of daffodils and I can't wait to walk here again to see bluebells. The paths are very well kept. The tea room has both indoor and outdoor seating. The toilets are outside next to the ice cream area. cream teas; light lunches; delicious home made cakes. My friend had a cold and it was no trouble to make him a hot lemon and honey drink. Friendly staff and prompt service. Reasonable prices with soup and a roll at £5; pate and salad at £6, scone and tea at £3:50.

Not a place to be able to have a family Meal on a budget, OK if just wanting tea and cake approx £10.00 for two, and only got a milk jug for hot water to top the pot up. Very tight seating and kids had to sit outside as many more mature people inside who turned their noses up at children. Very uncomfortable visit. Nice location for family by river but take picnic, and sit on grass area. There point we noted this visit is, they are going to start charging to park the car, so don't get caught out if you have been before as it has been free

There is catering at both at Cotehele House at the top of the hill as well as Cotehele Quay on the Tamar at the bottom of the main drive. If you are looking for a main meal the Sunday lunches are superb at the main house with large portions of beef or pork as well as a huge Yorkshire pudding and plenty of excellent quality vegetables. They also do sandwiches and stews (one pots). For jacket potatoes we found the portions are far more generous at the cafe on the quay where there is also outdoor seating and great quality scones and cakes - plus you don't need to pay for entry at the quay.

Lovely house and gardens and interesting shops. Had lunch in the cafe and although only a few choices on the menu the quality was very good.

Had a good afternoon with the family looking at the flower garland in the main hall, well worth a visit. Due to the time of year the gardens are not the best. The restaurant is very good and a nice place to eat. The art gallery/shop is ok, but nothing special. Staff seem pleasant enough, bearing in mind that they are volunteers. The car parking is free, so just the cost of paying to enter the house.

Although the main house is closed during the winter, there are excellent walks in the grounds, a good shop, 2H bookshop & restaurant &, from mid-November, the famous garland made with dried flowers.

Just had a lovely day out at Cotehele.Had lunch in the Edgcumbe.Lovely situation and food was really good.Unfortunately the lady taking orders today was not welcoming at all and appeared rude when asked a simple question.Contrast to her was the lovely waitress who brought us our food .

Visited with my daughter today for lunch. The location on the River Tamar is fantastic & today's hot & sunny weather was also fantastic. Perhaps this is why The Edgecumbe appeared to be over busy & the staff weren't coping too well:- service was slow , staff were "curt" & we received the wrong order (as did a few other people around us) I only live about 10 miles away, but I wouldn't bother to visit again.

With beautiful gardens and an ancient house, this National Trust house is worth the journey to find it. Lots of staircases and little four-poster beds, tapestries, with little delights to interest children as well as a fine collection of armour. Light lunches and teas in the restaurant. Don't miss the gallery where local artists exhibit their work for sale. Some lovely stuff.

Had a cream tea at Cotehele and compared to our visit it was well overpriced. There were four of us and we paid £20 for four scone teas with one scone each. We sent a pot of tea back as it was luke warm.Well overpriced indeed. Furthermore a very rude member of staff outside at admissions was asked by our Swedish visitor if there was a bin to throw her cigarette end into. He replied 'We don't expect anyone to smoke here!' he didn't direct her to a bin luckily she found on in the toilet. Not a good example to set for an international visitor. Manners cost nothing perhaps some of the staff need training in customer relations??

We booked afternoon tea for family celebrations. Afternoon tea was presented beautifully and was delicious. Our waitress Pinka was friendly and looked after us. The special offer was a bonus too. Highly recommended!

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

Went for a coffee and was told could only have take away as it was 15:40 on a Sunday, my wife and I are both disabled and I have an ostomy and asked to use the loo and was told I could only if I buy something, so it cost me 7 quid for two takeaway coffees just to use the loo....thanks national trust

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
