WE had our Grandkids with us for the day and went to Henley.Called into Costa in the afternoon (1/6/24) before heading home, for coffee,tea and cakes but it was shambolic.....the staff were either unattentive or didn't understand english,or were inept at their jobs.Many people hanging around for drinks they'd ordered which hadn't materialised,us included and staff being constantly reminded by customers of what they were waiting for!....won't be going back!

Still has dirty seats full of crumbs like last year staff member throwing cloth across counter to friend. Two sets of people came in with own food and own coffee and sat down still ugh!

Excellent administration and a excellent service! I go there every day in the morning and I am happy with the staff!

This cafe has amazing baristas ,friendly staff always happy to help, efficient(helped me to find personal/favourite drink),never wait too long, relaxing,welcome atmosphere...great service Thank you !

First of all the “new” hours that are printed on an A4 piece of paper stating 8am-4pm are wrong. Every morning this week they are not open at 8am. Since their manager left the new management have turned into a sad environment. No happy faces. Barley any stock. No conversation. Simply what drink do you want and that’s it. When told their milk was sour she said funny someone else said that yesterday. Maybe a good idea would be to change it then?? Myself and all my staff members used to go in everyday at least once. We now barley go in anymore as it’s just a horrible environment.

Nice clean venue..efficient staff and great coffee! What more can you say, for an enjoyable brief and welcoming break, after enjoying the delights of the town on the Thames!

The service was ok and the coffee not bad but the filthy seats full of crumbs and dirty need re covering a real health hazard Ugh would have expected better.

As we tried to pay, the service was poor so the app wasn’t working properly and the staff shook their heads. (Rude) There was rubbish on the tables and the staff were sat on their phones instead of clearing it up, the windows were greasy and unclean and the atmosphere was frosty. All in all we will not be coming back.

The whole place is much, much better under the new franchisee. Cleaner, brighter and well maintained. Mathew Jewitt is exceptional by way of his warm welcome and professionalism with a great 'can do' attitude, he is an absolute credit to this store.

I have visited henley’s costa many times before and it definitely has improved (well looks wise) drastically with the refurb! Interior looks a lot less… drab! I visited with my daughter recently and i have some words of advice for the management team.. HIRE BETTER STAFF. There was a male member of staff; brown hair and around 5’6 i would say- looked the part of a henley college sixth form student (I am assuming he is new as he didn’t know what he was doing in the slightest) and i was absolutely appalled at the service received from him! I had a look at his name badge and I’m not one for name and blame but he went by the name MAX. Rude child with smug facial expressions and it seemed he was more interested in staring intensely at my 11 year old daughter instead of getting the work done. Very odd i must say. I watched him standing around while we were made to wait a ridiculous amount of time and when i said something, his attitude was atrocious. For the most part, the rest of the team seem great but I would seriously look into who you are hiring!

We dropped in today for a couple of drinks and a toasted sandwich. The service was quick and friendly. The drinks were perfect. Couldn’t fault this Costa.

Daniela and her team keep the place spotless with regular cleaning, it is nice airy and light, the shelves are always stocked, They have a wide range of coffees and sandwiches all of great quality and you get excellent friendly professional service, Well done to you all, see you tomorrow, Marc Etheridge.

Worst experience, staff struggle to understand basic English and use of tills is lacking. Stay well clear of this shop.

Visited just before Christmas. Slow service and the coffee tasted vile. You need to clean your coffee machine EVERY day. It doesn't matter how good your beans are, if the machine is dirty your drinks will taste revolting. As they do.

I only called in because I had missed my train and I had a few minutes to wait. The staff were rude, coffee not really hot, no saucer, no teaspoon and the whole place including the toilets were extremely dirty.

Wonderful down to earth staff, great service and always friendly. Coffee is always good, relaxing atmosphere. There seems to be a lot of haters here in the reviews, get a life, drink your coffee and try to smile once in a while.. it won’t hurt.

I was so disappointed with my visit here this morning. Whilst the staff were pleasant enough, I couldn’t help noticing that the man was wearing a filthy blue apron . It was early in the morning so I can’t understand why it was so dirty.The main thing was how filthy the toilets were. I visited the disabled loo and I wouldn’t dream of using the baby changing room for a cat , let alone my grandson.COME ON, Costa. The one in Caversham is clean, atmospheric and 100 times better.

Place could do with a good clean and staff need to brush up or be trained on customer service skills. Coffee not as hot as usual due to very cold milk being slopped into cup. Come on Costa you can do better there are plenty of other coffee shops in Henley.

I haven’t been in here for a long while so we decided to give Costa in Henley a go. Half the place was closed off. No reason why but only the seating in front was open. The staff were a bit too laid back and didn’t offer the normal Costa “happy to see you”, style of greeting. They were on their phones when we walked in. There were four other people sat drinking coffee and I noticed that all the coffees were being served in the take out paper cups. When I asked why, the answers was that they have a lot to catch up on so it saves the washing up, (all on their phones). We all commented that it was cold in the cafe and the air conditioning was going like the clappers. It just was not a very nice experience and judging from the reviews that I have read since I was there, Costa obviously don’t use reviews as a quality control tool. If they did, then they ought to get someone in to sort this sad place out. I shall visit in a year or so and see if there is any improvement.

I was assured by the staff member that the the teapot was clean but still stained? I would recommend teaching your staff how to change dishwasher salts. Your crockery should be gleaming, not stained like this. Makes me wonder what the kitchen looks like 😱

What is going on Costa! The roof leaks, the dishwasher is dirty, the cups are badly stained and everything looks like it needs a good clean. Everything is dirty!

We often use Costa as it’s uniform whichever town you are in - not so in Henley-on-Thames! The coffee machine is filthy - needs a deep clean as does the member of staff using it. The cups are stained and horrible. Everyone is using takeaway cups in the cafe! The young man taking orders looks clean and respectable but that’s the only positive comment I can make.

We visited last week. The coffees (latte & flat white) were fine & the shop was very busy despite all the competition near by but some aspects of this Costa were poor. My wife noted the grubbiness of the whole drink & food area. There were a number of flies around the food area. The fascia at the end of the counter was in poor repair. The cushioned seating area was damaged & marked. This Costa needs refurbishment especially in Henley! Interestingly, the manager (I assume - no uniform but shirt & tie) was cleaning some of the equipment as we left - guess he may have seen what we had seen.

If i hadn't ordered our cakes and drinks i would have left, but you order before you move along to the til area,

A fairly standard Costa that we visit relatively frequently, but I have to say their air con is set to such a degree that is uncomfortable after a while. Even in a jumper on a day where it is 32 degrees outside, I found myself having to leave the premises in order to actually warm up. Otherwise, decent service and usual range/prices. Clean surroundings and there are usually enough spaces to sit with a few having plug access.

I normally seek out the Costa wherever I am in preference over the alternatives.

Called in with m6 brother for coffee and cake. Great flat white and enjoyed a slice of rasberry and almond bake.

Popped in to have a quick cup of coffee while in transit. The bench I sat on had holes in it, the barista was barking orders extremely loudly, and the coffee was marginal.

There are a number of coffee houses in Henley. This one is very pleasant. Cheerful service and great coffee. Good selection of light food to go with the coffee.

Venue itself was fine, but with only one person on the counter and only one making the coffee the wait was quite long even though there were only two people in front of me. My drink wasn't as hot as I would have liked but I didn't bother to take it back as it would have meant waiting all over again.

I rarely visit costa - it’s a treat.

An excellent attitude, clean and tidy place, great customer service. Very polite barista Adam, who served my drink just as I like it.

Came here before work one morning, i ordered a hot chocolate. the woman serving was very anti social and looked like she had just been told some sad news. Not the type of service i would expect. My friend ordered a Medium hot chocolate. the woman hadn't listened to what she said. the woman had charged her for a large vanilla hot chocolate! it was overpriced too. the woman took along time to give the correct change and it was embarrassing because she didn't realise the situation. For the drinks themselves, they were Luke warm and too sickly. i would never ever go back here. i was disappointed, upset and angry at how unfriendly and rude the staff were.

Stopped here for a latte and was impressed by a big, spacious and very clean Costa. Very friendly and welcoming staff and the cafe was spotless. Plenty of seating and with an atrium it is light and bright

Was served quickly and managed to find seating by the window and watched the world go by, enjoyed our coffees. We did use the toilet facilities and they were quiet dirty which sadly we do find this in many Costa shops.

Costa coffee is fairly consistent in most places. This one is no exception. Nice coffee, good cakes, friendly staff.

Visited last week after a walk along the river and so wished I had gone to a different coffee shop. Needless to say I won't make the same mistake twice.

The tables have not been cleaned and the service seems to be slow. Not a usual costa coffee shop. Not the best.

I visited the store yesterday , it is the most unfriendly Costa I have been to.

This isn’t the first time I have visited the Henley Costa but it oh my how dreadful. Staff appear untrained, ie you can’t have breakfast it’s only served between 11 and 2; are you sure it’s not before 11? Forgive me if is your relative that works there but seriously Costa give them some oomph. The two lads were as dozy as you like, the young girl barista had a bit more about her but I could sense her frustration when one of the lads sloped off when there was a massive queue. I’ll leave it a while before I return

I have been there three times with somebody else. Overall, the experience was disappointing. Staff members do not even try to be friendly. It looks as though customers are a nuisance to them. Tables are not very clean and often need to be cleared. The second time we visited, we chose a table that needed to be cleaned and cleared. We realized then that staff members prefer to ignore you until you change your table or clean it by yourself. The weird thing is that when we came in, we noted other dirty tables and by the time we left nobody had bothered cleaning them. Appalling! Finally, the baristas at this Costa store are terribly inexperienced. The first time we ordered an espresso and a cappuccino and it was acceptable. But the second and third time we visited, we ordered cold coffees, cold cappuccino, and hot chocolate and it was very bad. The last time we were there, we could not even finish our drinks. I do not think I will go back again.

We came here just for a tea and coffee while visiting the area. Staff were pleasant and drinks were good. WiFi was good here too.

Air con is good, and in this hot spell, very very good. But this place has it freezing. Absolutely chilled. Can't stay in there long, and my tea was cold after 5 mins. TURN IT DOWN!!

Hot day so in for a iced coffee,staff member overcharged by 35p ,claimed to have misheard order but counter receipt for correct amount ! Repaid eventually.Last time I go there

Estaba muy decepcionado con mi visita a Costa en Henley. No estoy seguro de qué idioma estaban hablando, pero la mayoría del personal definitivamente no hablaba inglés y esto me pareció extremadamente desagradable. Hubo un miembro del personal que afortunadamente me trató como si realmente importara. (Su placa de identificación decía Tom). Él fue muy atento y pude decir que tampoco sabía lo que estaban diciendo. Desafortunadamente, solo hice una visita más a Costa y él era el único miembro del personal que no estaba presente. No voy a ir allí de nuevo!

Nice location and a half decent place to stop for a drink when the schools are off....during term times it is no more than a waiting room for Henley College kids at almost all times of the day...and often they just take the restaurant over having bought nothing or very little from Costa.

Went to Costa for some drinks and food with family. Whilst the toasties were fine the service is slow, have to repeat order details and then they still get some of it wrong. Lots of tables not cleared whilst we were there and the cutlery provided was clearly dirty. With so many coffee shops in Henley and more coming Costa needs to take a look at itself as it will loose custom to others unless it improves things.

This is in a great location, right on the main street. There is plenty of good seating inside and very pleasant surroundings and I really like to have a coffee here. Sadly, the staff these days seem to be all non-English speakers and the service really suffers as a result; the staff are not very sympathetic or helpful and on two occasions I have witnessed customers complaining and the staff just pass the buck saying there is nothing they can do because the manager is not there. It's such a shame and Costa need to sort this out, especially when there are so many other very good coffee shops in Henley.

This Costa is in the main shopping area and like all Costas has their standard range of food and drink. Plenty of seating too and right between the two central car parks.

Terrible attitude by the girl serving. The complete opposite of what is expected for a customer facing role. Drinks order was lost between the server and drinks maker, and as receipt not given even though paid by card, I had to explain my order all over again.

Turned up looking a coffee of quality and a relaxing experience. The staff were sullen, no cheery good morning. My server no smile or charisma. No real engagement with me other than grunt questions to me. The Americana coffee with warm milk was no forthcoming, the barista had the cold milk away and no facial expression as it is a joy to provide a great experience. The tables were dirty and no-one on hand to clean them. Other people were leaving as queue so long and overhead another person saying it was the worst coffee he'd had in a Costa. They were so slow.

Went to Costa in Henley and we decided to have a coffee and sandwich. Drinks were to be in take away cups and food to eat in. This was a difficult instruction which had to be repeated multiple times to the trainee staff. Asked if the food could be brought over to our table but the staff didn’t understand the request. Drinks were filled so almost over flowing in the take away cups. At £20 for our light lunch and drinks for 3 it’s expensive with not the service you would expect from Costa. Need more staff but when training them they need to be helped not left alone.

Staff are not friendly my last drink wasn’t good enough and you always rushed by the staff and unclean toilet...

I went into Costa to get a basic flat white. I'm a member of the coffee club and I like getting the points. The service is always very good from the team there but they always seem short staffed in the morning. From 7am I have seen a line 12 deep and only one girl working.

Used this Costa during Henley regatta. Good quick friendly service and nice coffee. Couldn't fault the place.

I have been going to Costa in Henley for a long time and unfortunately it is probably the least favourite coffee shop in Henley today. They have had problems replacing staff that left a couple of months ago and therefore have been sending staff from other shops to fill in. Some a clearly not trained properly and ill prepared. They don't have a lot of the food that other Costa shops have and don't seem to know why when asked about it! On several occasions HALF the shop is shut/closed off to customers in order to clean well before closing time because they have to leave to catch buses etc? Apparently the temporary staff there travel some distance. This has happened several times. I have now changed my coffee shop and go to NERO which actually has a very good selection of food and snacks and their coffee is very good. If you are able to ignore the boisterous Henley College kids who come in daily during term time to voice their frustration and anger at the world and make sure everyone can hear them then Costa was OK. But not any more. I'll leave it to the young kids to make sure we still have a costa in Henley but i don't think you'll see many adults there anymore if management and staff don't get their act together soon. It's difficult to understand that you can't get permanent staff together as you did before. What is going on??

Popped in on spec for a quick 'cappuccino to go' between appointments.I didn't time it on a stopwatch but it probably took the best part of 15 minutes to get my coffee and leave.This was with three - yes three - people in front of me......!More staff than customers, and if they carry on like this, soon it will be NO customers.There are plenty of options for a coffee in Henley, try one (except perhaps Starbucks who I remember are also pretty naff).

I went in quickly to grab a toastie and a glass of lemonade and ended up waiting ten minutes. There was me and two other people in line. I was given my drink and was told they had no straws so they didn't know how I could drink it and said that if I wanted a straw I would have to wait whilst one of the staff went to buy more. As they were saying this they were serving other customers drinks in the same drinks containers so they wouldn't have had straws either. After two minutes of waiting for my toastie all the 3 members of staff decided to just disappear and leave customers standing there. When one member of staff emerged a fellow customer asked if he could serve and he walked off again. People came and went and eventually I got my toastie after ten minutes without a word. There were also flies all around the serving area which was pretty disgusting. Not worth the wait, and poor customer service.

Came here to get a quick snack on my lunch break. I went for the ham & cheese Panini, I know you can't expect much with something so simple but it was so tasteless and made with the cheapest ingredients. They even forgot about it whilst they were standing around chatting! It was only because I asked after waiting around for 10 minutes. £3.95 for something so tasteless, is not cheap when there are so many other options in Henley. Go to Franco Belge across the road or Hot Gossip around the corner if you want to sit down and enjoy lovely food and coffee. Honestly you’ll thank me. There is no atmosphere in Costa and the staff aren’t exactly the friendliest! Just avoid! I won’t be back! Sorry :/

Worst Costa ever and I've been to many! Both female serving staff unfriendly and surly.Ordered lemon drizzle cake and it was so old and dried up I'd have broken my teeth or choked if I'd tried eating it. I then returned to the counter and chose an alternative of chocolate Tiffin slice and was told it was the same price. I'd already seen it was 55p cheaper! When I said it wasn't the same price the member of staff slid the price tag under the counter - I said it was not the same price and she insisted it was so I insisted she showed me the tag she'd just hidden. When she did I finally got a 55p refund. No doubt a refund was inconvenient.Not enough cutlery given with cakes and no milk offered with tea. Sitting in the cafe itself near the back doors we then found ourselves sitting in a cloud of cigarette smoke as a (different) member of staff was smoking right in front of the back doors filling the cafe with smoke!!!Horrible experience.

This is as I have said, a run of the mill Costa coffee houses. When we went there we both had a cappuccino and a small cake. As usual, it costs a fair amount for what you get but the coffee is good. The service was not outstanding and the place lacked atmosphere. Perhaps Costa need use some imagination and jazz up these places. The small tea and coffee shop a few doors down actually has more atmosphere and the drinks and snack are a bit more reasonably priced.

When we woke up yesterday morning we all wanted to go out for the day but couldn't decide where, somewhere different we thought. That's when I came up with the idea of taking a trip to Henley on Thames which is only 50 mins from where we live, so that's what we did, and decided a Costa coffee was in order and I have to say we were very impressed with the cleanliness of the shop, staff could of been friendlier but the coffee was superb would highly recommend it.

We wanted to have a warm drink and use the toilets but this was very small and the toilets were out of order. The tables we had to clean ourselves and clean the floor area. Not the best costa coffee

Had a latte, tasted like a glass of warm milk, will not bother to go back again. This is typical of a multi national company.

This used to be really good ......last time we went in the toilets were blocked ...tables needed clearing and the sofa was filthy.

There doesn't seem to be enough staff. The tables were not cleaned, we had to move trays from tables. The lemon drizzle cake was stale. This is our second visit this week and the situation hasn't improved. I really like their coffee so very disappointed with the service and the cake. Don't visit if you're in a hurry.

Costa has become regular haunt. the coffee is good and my preference of the chains. The snacks and other add ons are generally tasty and well thought through.

We visited Costa in Henley every morning whilst working the Regatta. The staff were friendly, chatty and the service was fast! The coffee was lovely! We tried the sausage and red onion toastie which was also very nice! Well worth a visit.

Visited with my father a few days ago and enjoyed a lovely mug of chocolate and some chocolate cakes We were served by Sammie who was lovely and my father commented on the friendliness of the staff including Holly was was very busy cleaning the floor without inconveniencing any customers whatsoever. Good stuff !!!!!

I've been in many Costa's, prefer them to Starbucks but that's just a personal choice. What really set this one apart was the friendliness of the staff and particularly the Manager, Naomi I think she was called. Everyone was greeted warmly and there was a kind word for everyone. Service was quick and they came and checked if we needed/wanted refills.....i've never had that in a Costa before. Can't recommend the place highly enough and wish I was more local so I could become a regular. The staff were obviously happy in their work and they were really enjoying themselves and that really added to the experience. Well done and thank you all!!!!!

A friendly welcome on a miserable wet day was made all the better with large black coffee and some sandwiches. Later I tried the hot chocolate (still not a fan of the odd two handled cups!) which was splendid and a piece of chocolate tiffin.Staff were busy; was served by Eva who was patient and smiley. A nice place to sit out the horrid weather.

Noticed that the cafe was much tidier and cleaner than visits earlier in the year; a friendly welcome especially from the lady on the till (Eva, I believe). Nice "buzz" about the place and noticed the tables being cleared promptly after people had left. Will visit again!

Pleasant visit - friendly staff and good display of cakes etc.Limited outside seating at the front of the store which is on a busy and relatively noisy road.There is a small "yard" area towards the back of the store but I am not sure if there is seating available there.Inside there is plenty of comfortable seating (not the "new" 1950's style) uncomfortable type now appearing in new and upgraded Costa's!Will visit again when in Henley-on-Thames as it would always be my first choice coffee wise!

Costas is formulaic and most of the shops look the same. That said, the coffee was good, and the service prompt and attentive.

Well not great. Saturday afternoon arrived to find they had no water! No hot drinks only bottled available. So whilst I love costa coffee I am getting tired of franchise owners not looking after the basics, like water!

A pretty average coffee and staff that lacked any interest. The whole place needs a good clean. Overall pretty poor, I would expect better from any coffee shop.

Having experienced what must be the worst Starbucks in the world in Henley, we tried Costa, despite some of the reviews. But we were pleasantly surprised. The wait was not interminable as some have said although the place was not that busy. Tables were cleaned, coffee served hot. Maybe we were just lucky.

After a nice walk from Marsh lock along the river into Henley we had a break before our return journey at this Costa. Like many people we have experienced the Dow service but it was ok today but then again they were not busy. The coffees were very good, the chocolate muffin and Belgium tea cake also. So this place has redeemed itself but I think we prefer Hot Gossip round the corner ( did not go there at it was full)

Having concerns over Starbucks I hoped Costa would be better. Initial impressions were good, nice modern interior, good buzz, and only two ahead of me at the till.Then I realised there were quite a few people waiting for drinks, some who'd returned to their tables to wait! Somewhat concerned as I had a train to catch I decided to risk it. My order wasn't taken that quickly, but that hardly mattered as it wasn't going to be made for a while. Friendly service at the checkout all the same.The barista on the other had didn't manage a smile. Was moving at a snails pace and seemed thoroughly disinterested in what she was doing. The coffee machine can handle three infusions at a time (3 doubles or 6 single shots) but the barista only seemed capable of operating one. Rather than looking ahead at the orders and setting off a number of coffees and warming enough milk, she did one at a time. So not only was she really slow, she wasted a lot of time also.Appeared to be only two staff on, and I'd arrived 2.33 and got my to go coffee at 2.47 - just glad I wasn't there earlier when it was busy!Coffee itself was ok.

I don't want to be cruel, but this place is a joke. I've been here a number of times now and each one I've had to wait at least 15 minutes to recieve my coffee. I honestly don't understand why upper management don't intervene with this store. How can it possibly take 3-4 staff running the counter so much time to process orders?If you go down the road to Nero you'll sometimes only find one guy or girl working there, who's already memorised the next 3 orders and is processing them all at once. Take my advice, if you see more than two people queueing up just do a 180 and leave, you'll be there for ages. If you do ever get served there's sadly no redeeming features to give the place character, it's uninviting and full of noisy students at best.

I'm currently sitting in the costa in Henley on Thames, having waited 15 mins to get a coffee - it wasn't busy, they're just incredibly slow.I'm surrounded by tables with dirty cups, plates, wrappers etc. A staff member has walked past the tables twice so far, and not even remotely considered cleaning them.I've just suggested to a member of staff they may want to think about clearing tables as its like sitting in a pig sty. Unbelievable. The tables are now being cleared.The manager should, in my view, be performance managed and probably let go.Oh, and their coffee machine has just broken down... Again.

Following a recent visit to this chain coffee shop I was pleasantly surprised. Had a lovely salted Carmel cappuccino and my husband enjoyed a lovely honeycomb crunch. Good service slightly slow but good.

Went to get a coffee in the morning of a Sunday. Not busy, but took ages to get served. A man behind us got his tea before our drinks were made. There was a lady in the que In front of us who did not receive her drink, she was forgotten about and left asking when it was her tern to receive the drink she ordered over 20mins before. Both staff members didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. Overall very disappointing. Will not go again.

Recently purchased 4 drinks for myself and work colleagues returned to work to find the milk was thick and cudled it was appalling, they are always very slow and the store is always dirty. I wont be returning to this store.

For a start it is a Costa so you know roughly what to expect by way of drinks and food. The problem with this one is that one day it is being run properly and is spotless and all the tables have been cleared of dirty crockery etc. The next day you can go in and it looks like a bomb has hit it. Tables full of dirty crockery and cups and uncaring staff. Some times you win sometimes you lose.

Visit frequently. Usually a long queue, and disgruntled staff. Can't imagine that staff have time to clean any tables and there is generally a grubby feel to the premises. Often the air conditioning is too cold to sit comfortably in parts of the cafe.

And a partially filled take-away cup! One poor barista doing very thing and long queue. Not fair on customers or staff,

If you have to deal with the foreign staff the experience is pretty poor due to them not understanding English when spoken to. They then forget to bring ordered food to the table and forget plastic cutlery. Coffee is now unimpressive but the usual standard. Go for the Cortado. Everything else is not worth it.
