We set out as a group of people from all over the country to meet as a reunion for most after 40 years . As soon as we approached the venue it was clean tidy and buzzing inside … entering it was busy and we thought it was going to be difficult to get food as a group … Jess K was extremely helpful and navigated us to a table made sure we were comfortable and the. Served us for the evening . Even assisted us with a group photo . Jess K was kind and helpful along with her colleagues as we new they were busy

Came to the corner house for a meal with my partner on Saturday evening and I absolutely could not fault the service that we received. Sharon and Saskia could not have done more for us! Sharon kindly found us a table and once our food had arrived they both checked on us consistently throughout the evening, absolutely nothing was too much trouble for them! The pub was incredibly busy and we didn’t have to wait too long for our food and it was absolutely lovely. We will definitely be returning. Thank you both for a lovely evening.

We never got told.it’s 50 minutes wait for food.we waited 1 hour 5 minutes for food and when it come it was cold.I don’t recommend coming here for food.

Such a great place and great staff. Loving some of the new updates since they renovated and the staff has always been great to us. We are regulars and have always had a great experience, everyone is friendly and happy to help. Tonight they even supported us with a birthday surprise and our friend was very touched. Ordered the steak and salad with a couple of sides. The food came pretty quickly and was really nice the staff were super friendly and very helpful, a credit to the pub.

Very poor in terms of wait to receive food. Last Sunday in April, arrived 5:45pm, ordered two normal meals at bar, and sat back waiting. Food arrived 6:45pm. Wife wanted a simple apple pie and ice cream, so ordered that at 7pm, and by 8pm still not arrived. Aplogies and refund for dessert, but no explanation. If you are short staffed, then tell customers you are short staffed, and let them choose to wait, or not bother.

Used to enjoy coming for food but the service is getting slower and multiple things were missing off of our plates, with no prior warning or a sorry when the meals were served, only until we asked where the missing items were they said “sorry we have ran out”. This is becoming a regular occurrence on a Thursday. Should be well aware that Thursdays are always busy due to the quiz. Yet the food wait for us personally was 1 hour 15 minutes and saw other people wait just as long and complain too !! They should learn that Thursdays are busy and have more staff on. More staff needed on the bar too as there is always a very long wait. Overall the service is getting worse and others see it too so something needs to change or people with go elsewhere.

Arrived at 18:30 ordered by 18:40 on app. Drinks hadn’t arrived by 19:00 bar visit to chase apologised and drinks arrived 19:10. Confirmed food had been put through but they hadn’t seen the drinks order on screen 🙄 starters arrived 19:30 told mains wouldn’t be long 20:15 chasing up mains - not even been started in the kitchen to be cooked… full refund given. Absolutely diabolical service

ATROCIOUS - And that makes it sound better than it was! Sunday 21/04/24. Sunday lunch? (never in a century of Sundays). My Wife had the Roast Turkey, it was a compressed roll of very thinly sliced processed grey matter. The so called mashed potato (if you can call it that) was a stiff disgustigly tasting flat round pat (looked processed frozen and microwaved). The veg, Peas, Carrots, French Beans and Brocolli were all hard and cold. The gravy (an extra 50p for the experience - I thought Sunday lunch came with gravy - it does at my house at least) was a thick, dark brown luke warm stuff that is served in a mini gravy jug (wow). The 'roast potatoes' ha,ha, were so dark they were nearly black, hard and disgusting, and I am pretty sure they were re-hashed from the day before. I had the Sunday Rib Roast. I thought it was going to be a slice or two off a roated Rib joint. NO! It was a huge bone with a covering of mainly fat with a few traces of meat in it. Both (dare I call them meals) were luke warm at best. I guess that was because the people bringing out the food (I cannot call them waiters / waitresses because they just had no clue at all) just stood near the tables and waited for someone to ask what it was they were holding. When we had finished mainly looking at each other, and each others mess, and poking around to try and find something edible, we waited nearly an hour for the plates of 'whatever' to be taken away. Did I complain? No, - why would I want to be offered more pig swill? Best part of the meal was going back to the car and back home for a packet of bicuits and a cuppa tea. Would I recommend this place? NO! Would I go back? NEVER EVER AGAIN!!! If I had a dog I would not even have asked for a doggy bag, I could not have served this up to one. How do places like this stay open??

Good food in a busy pub with sports on many TV's. Sharon and the other staff friendly, drinks a bit pricey. Ladies hot tap hot hot hot

Went for lunch here today with my family and despite the pub being busy the food came out rather quick and piping hot! The new menu was brilliant and our waitress Katie was very attentive and made sure we had every thing we needed and wanted ! Would definitely come again!

1 hour wait for food!! Absolutely shocking quality. Would not recommend. Had the chick n mix. Chicken wings were hard & hardly had any chicken , chicken strips hardly any chicken, Mac n cheese was inedible and grey (see photo), fries were cold, waffle fries cold and greasy. Possibly the worse service & experience I’ve ever had. Ordered food at 4:30, arrived at 5:30.

Been today for a birthday meal , waited over an hour for food and the service from Tracy was not a pleasant one ,very rude and unprofessional and has no time for customers ! Very disappointed

Read the reviews before adding mine, surprised to see some adverse ones. My friend and I come for lunch either every Tuesday or Thursday - can honestly say we've always had excellent meals provided by very attentive, friendly staff. Today's meal was beef lasagne with garlic ciabatta & dressed salad - very, very good - our plates were clean at the end. Must point out that on entry walking to the bar I could immediately see that the team had worked really hard to spruce up and clean the multi coloured tiles. Well done everyone and smiles back at you.

This used to be our first choice for going out, we came here for tea, and what a complete change it has had, all young staff, nobody knowing what they are doing. Wait time was a complete joke. Food cold and having to go back to the kitchen. Staff walking round looking miserable, such a shame when this used to be such a welcoming pub, where have all the good staff gone? Shame on you greeneking!!!

We come on Thursdays for the quiz. Such a fun night, Richard is brilliant and makes it great for all! We get food too which is good value

Came in around 8 and after 30 mins food was out and still hot even though they were short staffed. The food was amazing and one of the best burgers I’ve had. Staff were lovely, even though they were harassed by customers who ‘didn’t like...

A little concerning when ordering due to people complaining about the food being awful and the wait and refusing to pay their bills (even though all their plates were empty which didn’t make sense ) Took our chances and ordered our food anyway it came...

Good pub grub! Been here a few times with friends and always had great food. The process of how ordering wasn’t explained upon being seated and the customer service felt very half-hearted. It took us 20 minutes to realise no waiters or waitresses were taking orders until I had to go find a member of staff. We ordered promptly through the app which was clear and easy to use apart from knowing what table number we were as this wasn’t clearly identified on the tables either. Our food and drinks came out very quickly and food was delicious and plentiful. I would advise management just to let there staff know to explain to customers how the process works as this helps the overall experience. Nice decking area and a good pub all round. We loved the ‘challenge’ sections and hope they vary this up as we head into the summer to encourage repeat business from my friends & I.

Came out with work mates for a quick drink, ended up stopping for a few hours and had food. food was great definitely 5*. Met Katie & Sarah couldn’t do enough for us. Will definitely go again.

We've been to the Cornerhouse several times now, and everytime it's been amazing. Really nice place, there steak meals are superb and the staff are fantastic.. always a friendly welcome.. table service is excellent.. very polite.. there always more than happy to make sure everything is ok with your meal and to see if you want more drinks ordering etc. Would strongly recommend the Cornerhouse. Ate here with a work colleague, food was good but evening ruined by bar staff forgetting what hospitality is and turned the football off with 5 minutes of the game remaining (at 9.45) ‍♂️After complaining to Greene King manager called to apologise but not sure Id risk watching football there in an evening again!

Very nice place the food and staff was so nice! i was greeted and sat at my table with my wife and kid and someone came and took our order in seconds and the food was lovely and cheap! on our way out we got thanked by a bubbly foreign girl on the bar, i had a great time

Unbeatable food, poor managementWe had hunter’s chicken and steak and ale pie. Pie looked and tasted like it was made before lockdown, mush potatoes greyish blue substance and lump of gravy you have to break with your spoon.Chicken was nothing like it’s described on the menu.We spoke to Shift leader, she offered us pudding or drink, but we where ready to leave by then, so she happily changed us full price for meal was impossible to eat.One more thing, we would send it back but no one ever asked us how our meals where.

I’ve gave it two stars as, midweek I had some chicken wings here and they were alright, I went for Sunday lunch and the dinner was rubbish. First off never trust a place that doesn’t do mint sauce with beef.. not even ran out, just not an option.Secondly the beef I got was like something off Fawlty Towers. It actually did put a smile on my face as it was that funny, only thing is I don’t really want my dinner to be a joke.. the beef was like the shop bought sandwich beef slices you buy for a supermarket - maybe 2-3 mm thick if you’re lucky! Two slices of that.. I was half expecting Ant and Dec to walk round the corner.

Had a really good visit over the bank holiday to the Corner House. The food was great and hot. They even had a large beer van outside. Was a bit chilly but real good fun. Inside the staff where very attentive. Well done thank you

We booked a table on Friday evening for the following evening for 6:30 and arrived at approx 6:20, to be told they had no knowledge of our booking. We were seated by one of the staff, advising he would send a member of bar staff to take our order, following an unacceptable wait our food order was taken, which was incorrect on arrival and substandard! at this point our drinks had still not arrived at this point and after asking when our drinks would arrive one of the staff replied they are on their way which was a further ten minutes after the food arrived, these were also incorrect. Added to the disgraceful service and unacceptable standard of food the wait of almost an hour for the table to be cleared, which was only done after a member of staff was found. At this point four ice creams where ordered taking a further 30 minutes to arrive! We requested to speak to a manager as we wished to make a complaint, the assistant manager attended; the final outcome was an apology (empty words) and no charge for the ice cream. This is not the first time I have used a Green King flaming grill pub, but it will definitely be the last!!

Excellent experience on a Eat Out to Help Out day. Manager was great. All staff observing C19 guidance. Whilst there was understandably a delay on food, staff did warn us and keep us updated. Keep up the good work! Hefty tip left equivalent to saving received! Help the staff.

We pre booked and arrived to be told many of the items were "unavailable" no fresh food, such as salad, at all. The wait time was extensive so when we had finished our meal and some in the party wanted to order desserts we were informed "we were too late" the kitchen had closed for new orders!!!We we asked why we had not been informed of this prior to the deadline the waitress shrugged with no other explanation.The quality of the food that did arrive was also very overcooked and poor.Definitely not going back there in a hurry...

We have visited this evening and have been very disappointed . The meal took 1 hour to come and when it did it was very dry . I asked if I could have salad in my burger , I was told they had ran out . My husbands meal was meant to be a “ mixed grill” all meat was dry and a very small portion . 1 sausage , small amount of steak and a small dry chicken breast When asking for some more Sauce to make the meal edible I was informed the is a “ sauce limit “ of 2 sauces per customer We also witnessed other meals arriving at our table which we hadn’t ordered! Very bad organisation!!! We will not be visiting again

11/08 Social distancing guidelines very good, no vinegar, staff appeared de-motivated. Service not good, the staff that were present did not look after customers, no where on site when wanting to pay. Waited 15 mins then paid at till. 4 staff around chatting, took another 10 minutes to pay. Would not go back.

First start by employing staff that speak English.that would be a good start .as surprising we struggled to order the food .sort it out green king (or green goblin)

Having now read other reviews my experience this evening is no longer a surprise. The service was attrocious, the pub due to C19 was more or less empty but it still took over half an hour for our food order to arrive. One of the meals a beef sunday dinner was 'squashed'... flat broccoli, a flat lump of mashed potato, the green beans on the dinner were indescribable - they appeared to have been 'around a bit' to say the least, dried up at both ends and squashed flat in the middle. The broccoli might have been ironed!! The beef tasted of nothing but pepper, so much so that it had to be accompanied by copious amounts of water to reduce the burning of the tongue and lips. It was obviously taken from a boiled beef joint purchased cheaply and not 'roast beef' as advertised. A second meal 'Macaroni Cheese' was actually two tablespoons of macaroni past with a very thick gloopy cheese sauce poured on top. Where Macaroni Cheese should then be grilled lightly to brown the top this was just left looking like macaroni in a bowl of custard. In actuality the sauce could be either really, just the addition of sugar would have meant they could serve it as custard. To be absolutely fair the garlic bread (two slices of a french loaf) was good, however not really adequate to compensate for the rest of the meal. The salad was absolutely drenched in dressing that was so vinegary it could have been served with fish and chips, I would also question the age of this dressing as it looked very suspect to me. A third meal 4oz rump steak cooked 'blue' was my own. I have been eating rump steak, sirloin steak, t-bone steak, fillet steak all 'blue' for many years and from many restaurants as well as my own kitchen. The rump steak being only a 4oz was made up of a complete side of gristle about 1cm thick which when cut off left a tiny piece of steak probably around 2oz, this was totally unacceptable in itself as I'd paid for 4oz Rump steak and not 2oz gristle and a 2oz steak. The 2oz of steak was well cooked for 'blue', however, the biggest problem with it was I could neither cut it with the knife nor get the fork to go into it as it was so tough thus the remaining 2oz too was inedible, the sole of my shoes would have been tenderer, under other circumstances I might have suggested I bring it home for our dog but it was really not even edible for canine teeth. Now here is the worst part. I spoke to the woman who claimed to be the 'manager' although we all knew that she was only the one who had drawn the short straw out of the two people who were actually serving, I showed her the steak where I had managed to cut off the gristle edge for her to see how big it was (I used some scissors I had in my manicure set to get this off) and said that the rest of the steak was impossible to cut into with a knife. Of all the stupidities she could come up with she offered to replace my meal with another one.... what idiocy, who in their right minds would say yes thats fine only to go through a similar situation with another piece of steak (it was obvious to me that the 'chef' (cook perhaps) was incapable of producing food to the standard expected by customers, nor looking at what was being cooked and understanding that it was well below standard and needed to be returned to the suppliers and secondly that meant waiting another 30 minutes for another meal to arrive and then sit like 'billy no mates' eating on my own! I said that she should just refund the cost of my steak meal but she immediately said 'Oh I can't do that'. As she took my full plate away from me and I didn't have a replacement this is tantamount to theft - i.e., The Corner House stole £6.30 from me by taking my money and not providing me with an edible meal. Whats next Corner House, plastic food and fruit in bowls for customers to just look at? I can only assume from the lack of responsibility to be able to refund a customer when they are overcharged that this 'manager' was not in actual fact a 'manager' as she had claimed at all.Anyway if you have read this then you know as I now do never to darken the doorstep of the Corner House in Burton on Trent unless you want to have your money taken for nothing, to wait over half an hour for inedible food and are willing to be abused by its arrogant useless staff.

Shocking service the bar team were too busy talking rather than serving. We as a group of 15 all ordered separately and the first meal we ordered came out last after waiting nearly an hour. If you do go there don’t have the corn on the cob unless you have got loads of money to spend at the dentist. Toilets were shocking. All in all a total waste of time and money

Had to wait around 40 minutes for food, it was pretty packed, Sunday beef dinner was really nice though the pint of black sheep I had tasted a little off.

Been here a few times. Should have learnt the first time not to return after we ordered mains then tried to order desserts and was told service finished at 9. I’ve never known this anywhere if you’ve had a main meal surely regardless of there service time you can order a dessert considering it was only 9:15. We tried going again on a Sunday, we ordered off the daily menu. We watched people walk in after us be served there food and leave, twice over this happened, it took 45 minutes to get pre cooked microwave meals not great quality. We won’t be returning.

I did a review recently, and nothing really has changed.The food is what you would expect from a chain pub like this or Witherspoons etc. It will never feature in the Mitchalin guide but its made well and tastes good.The only problems I have here, are firstly the staff seem to struggle to cope at times which can lead to delays in ordering, or food taking a long time to arrive as well as sometimes items missing from the order.However if you have a word with a member of staff any problems are usually quickly rectified.

Had a very nice starter and steak with my wife.We’ve had several meals here in the last twelve months and have always been good especially Sunday roasts as good value.

Was here on Wednesday service was crap, got all our food wrong, was told they didn’t have certain things as they don’t do it even though it’s clearly on the menu! charged us for a meal we didn’t have had to wait 25mins at the bar to pay the bill, worst meal ever! Rude staff! Won’t be returning and certainly won’t be recommending to anybody!

Called in at the corner house for a nice meal after a relaxing spa day ...friendly staff ..great atmosphere ...food was lovely and tasty enjoyed the night so much the wife and myself had 2 bottles of wine...a big thank you to sharon and the staff will definitely call in again even though we are from Wolverhampton

The meal was served cold and had to be sent back presumably into the microwave. All of the meals served in our party were stodge. I was not expecting anything brilliant for this type of establishment but this was poor. All of our party suffered afterwards.

Just left this public house after stopping off for lunch. I rarely write a review but felt I had too today. The food was exceptional value for money and delicious. The portions were large and the staff were fabulous. Tracie, who served our meals was so cheerful and helpful along with everyone else. I will definitely return there.

Lovely Christmas day spent with great company. Very busy,food was ok we were hungry it was as expected. Sadly don't think anything was fresh all frozen and cheese in the cheese and biscuits was very dry ie left out too long. But we still had a great time and left happy.

I was staying in the premier inn and came here for a few drinks and food, after looking at the menu I noticed pretty much most of the food came with chicken wings so I thought I would have the garlic mushrooms for starter and then the chick n mix challenge so I went to order first off no garlic mushrooms at 5pm on a Saturday night very disappointing so we opt for the cheesy garlic bread which was brought out very nice if not greasy and then we had to search for our own cutlery and serviette, I then ordered the chick n mix cant have that no chicken wings, half the menu is with wings on a Saturday night and they dont have any so I go for the xp surf turf and click that comes out and the 8oz rump has shrunk to a 4oz I know my steaks and my sizes and when my wife is sat with a 8oz sirloin and mine is half the size I know it's not right so we call the manager who says that's how it comes out of the bag and she took it away to do it again 15min pass and it comes back the same, same steak the same chicken skewer and the same scampi all though it was all burnt around the edges as it had obviously been sat under a hot plate, it's a chicken and steak restaurant surely stocks can be ordered and cooked properly, not even an offer of a refund or a free pudding, if I lived nearer to here I would be avoiding it at all costs McDonalds is across the road

Called into the Corner House whilst staying at the adjacent Holiday Inn Express Hotel.

Had a lovely meal here. Lovely friendly bar staff but the waitress came to our table chewing on gum/food. Just plonked the food on the table for us to serve to the correct person ourselves. Dropped some of my meal on the floor and half heartedly said sorry and said she would replace it. I enquired ome time later if there was going to be a replacements she had said... she was rude and grunted a reply back and eventually replaced the dropped item. We all have off days but she was not at all friendly, but as a paying customers we were very disappointed. It ruined the atmosphere and event for us all.

Tried the Sunday Roast here as previous lunchtime meal was excellent.The roast is good value for money and would recommend trying.

Since new staff have taken over the corner house it has become an unwelcoming pub to visit. As someone who used to come here 3/4 times a week with friends I am very appalled by the approach that the staff have to their customers. Coming into the pub with a group of friends to be told you are being ‘too loud’ whilst only playing pool and having a laugh is quite rude. Maybe if the staff were more welcoming then maybe they’d actually get more business and regulars would think about returning. Also, you should be thankful for our business as since the welcoming members of staff have left your business has gone down hill. If you don’t want people coming in for a drink and catch up with your friends then why not remove the pool table and fruit machines and make it into the most unwelcoming and boring pub in burton....

I’ve been here three times now this year. Twice they were out of stock on a large portion of the menu, or their grill was broken, which is used on a large part of their menu. Only once was I able to order what I wanted. The other times I had to change my mind twice or even three times before they were able to make my desired meal. Ridiculous.

We were welcomed and apologies straight away, yes, they were serving food, but from 6.30pm they were shutting the kitchen, because they were laying a new floor.

Pagan and Ben a young couple have recently taken over the Corner House.

Good value and delicious meal in a warm friendly environment. Close to the Premier Inn, plenty of parking, Sky Sports and an outdoor area.

Thus is a great pleace to go with family the food is really good great value for money the challange meals are huge so great if you are very hungry there is a great choice of dishes on the menu and the stuff are really freindly and helpfull

Nearly everything we ordered was not available and the wait was ridiculous, no staff to serve drinks or food. When our meals did arrive the quality was very poor

After eating here a few times, we were looking forward to celebrate my Mum's birthday, they had not put our booking in the book so had to find a table for us. Which was so tight and had no room it was a 6 table there was 5 of us. It was so hot and no fans or windows open.

The web site says it is open at 11.00 so arrived at 11.45 to find it opened at 12.00 with three others also waiting outside. Mentioned this to the Manger who was rude and said it needs changing as if he expected me to do it. Many menu items were taped over as Sold Out We had three more atempts to order until we eventually found something they did have. i.e. no chicken, no fish and only 8 chicken wings. Two of the three ladies toilets were out of use and no paper in the other. We had e mails advertising offers this weekend when they had many of the offers missing. This place needs pulling up by its shoe strings starting with a Manager who is trained in the hospitality industry. I notice the Manager has responded to some of the reviews but it needs to start at the top not the kitchen staff. Beefeater just down the road for our next meal.

Just a nice experience. New refurb looks great, staff were nice and food came pretty quick! Priced really fairly as well, lovely stuff

Never tried food due to ignorant manager. Had food from here years ago and fancied a change with the wife and mother, We had to go somewhere else due to not being made to feel welcome, He even said I'd read the wrong opening times on the website.

On Friday night myself and three friends arrived at 1845 hours told it would be 45 minutes before we could order meal this we agreed so got a drink after 45 minutes one of our party tried to order meal was informed it would be one hour and thirty minutes before meal would be cooked this is the second year running that this has happened to me it is time that whoever owns this establishment put in staff that are capable of running this pub as it is not a flaming as the flame has gone out

My partner and I arrived saturday evening at 7.30pm. Paid for food. Waited almost an hour . My partners food was only just hot enough to eat. My food was cold in the middle of the steak pie. Waited another 25 minutes for a replacement meal. Asked for a free drink and a desert to compensate but took a while for it to arrive and only after demanded to see the manageress. Apparently there was a wedding reception ongoing which meant other diners were kept waiting uneccessarily too long for food and even then not cooked properly. My message to the business is you can't have your cake and eat it when you leave your bread and butter customers with poor service. Will nit be going back to Flamming Grill.

Having travelled 170km down country, despite the web site & Green King pro-forma stating food is served till 22:00hrs on walking in at 20:35hrs x3 guys stepped forward directly in front of me to order their food & having waited behind the x3 people to be served, I was told they were no longer serving food... I debated the point that they obviously were, as the boy next to me was still ordering & hadn't yet paid for it, the girls answer was but they have been sitting there from earlier, so that was ok??? "So work that out, if you can"...!!! The Green King information for the venue is obviously not being adhered to & one for their compliance department & trade description department to sort out,,,!

We were consistently rudely spoken to and lied to. First I ask if I could have a straw and was told they don't have any only to go to my table with a large group to find they all had straws and the others that were buying after me also got straws. Then some members had to order food from just eat to make sure the children were fed as the kitchen was closed to be rudely spoken to when this was delivered. The idea was to take this back to the hotel room however staff were quick to be rude about this. The same member of staff then came to rudely tell us the children had to be out only to turn around and see a young child sitting at the other side and when questioned this we were told oh that's the managers daughter. So one rule for one and another rule for the important people. We were in a very large group and were spending alot on money in this place however there were a number of other occasions we were spoken to very rudely and inappropriately. There was never once an excuse me, iam sorry but... Extremely rude and unwelcoming. Customer service training would be beneficial here.
