I love this place and it is great to see it back open. We live about a 45 minute drive away and visit 2 or 3 times per year. The owners work such long hours and the food here is absolutely gorgeous. This year we got a takeaway as we'd had a huge breakfast and as ever nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious. When we eat there the owner allows you to take your own wine and the food is amazing and reasonably priced. If you want a 5* restaurant or plush toilet facilities go somewhere else - if you want no pretensions, gorgeous food and a fabulous sea view then I would thoroughly recommend !

MORE AT TripAdvisor

Cookies is basically a seafood shack that’s expanded to include some indoor and outdoor seating and tables. So before you visit think of it like that. Don’t come with expectations of a restaurant because if they make it like that you’ll be paying restaurant prices. You are not paying restaurant prices at all. What you get is some of the best seafood available and cooked perfectly. But you are paying seafood stall prices. No it doesn’t have facilities and I don’t care. Seafood can be incredibly expensive these days and I struggle to afford it. My favourite lobster comes from here and yes I can afford it. It’s half the price of the seafood delivery van that visits my home town. I love the simplicity and the beautiful food. The owners are lovely but I suspect if you go in all guns blazing expecting a high class establishment with all the facilities, they may be a bit offended (bearing in mind the prices). So go there thinking of a good seafood stall with tables chairs and enjoy what you get because in my view it’s exceptional value for money and I feel lucky to have found it. While there don’t forget to donate to their cats service as they’re doing a sterling job. Crabbies keep up the good work. Those of us who know and appreciate what you do will always return. The ones who don’t can pay a fortune for the same food elsewhere.

The plates of crab and lobster salads looked wonderful but much better than the taste. The crab was mainly brown meat and the small piece of lobster was tasteless. What was most disarming and mean to our minds was that my elderly husband was refused a glass of tap water! So he was forced to buy a bottle of water in effect.

That said the seafood is as fresh as you'll get it, excellent prices, views across the marshes, outdoor tables might wobble. I’ve been going to Cookies for at least two decades. The food is always lovely, however the owner is very rude. Last time he complained that some of our party only wanted sandwiches, even though we were a table of four and between us spent over £70. Sadly won’t be going back as he doesn’t seem to value his customers and frankly would rather take our custom somewhere where it’s appreciated. Shame.

Sandwiches appeared worryingly quickly and were dreadful. The cheapest bread I’ve had since being a student and the while the crab meat and mackerel we ordered wasn’t bad it also wasn’t particularly good. While the owner wasn’t rude to me he was rather rude to my sister in law as she was drinking a coffee from the Salthouse Stores (incidentally worth a visit as it’s lovely) in his establishment. This is a very interesting place! You bring your own wine or beer with you, the tables and chairs are plastic, and you can ONLY order what's on the menu, no customized plates. If you try to order something a little different (no prawns, no salad, etc) you will be told in no uncertain terms that you can order ONLY things that are on the menu no matter what the accompaniments are. And it's CASH ONLY. However, having said that, the seafood was the least expensive and the BEST and FRESHEST I've ever tasted!! I ate everything on the plate, including those things I originally didn't want. Everything was scrumptious. I will definitely go back the next time I'm in East Anglia.

Had a really lovely day driving along the coast road from wells to blakeney then thought we'd stop at Dalhousie for a drink. Called in at Cookies and bought 3 cans of pop, then as there were 5 or 6 empty tables we sat down to enjoy the view. 2 mins later a foreign girl (polish maybe) came out and told us we couldn't sit there. We ignored her as we couldn't see a problem. We were actually contemplating buying a meal. She went back in then an old fish wife!! Popped out saying we couldn't sit there as we hadn't paid VAT. We argued the fact that there was plenty of seating but she stood there waving her arms like a demented crow. What a very unwelcoming pair. So rude and nasty. I had come down from the Lake District to enjoy the good old Norfolk hospitality but this place certainly let's Norfolk down. Never again will we visit it. Apparently there's a place called the Dun Cow nearby. Anyone visiting don't bother with Cookies go straight to Dun Cow. I hope this place closes as it gives a bad impression to the beautiful county of Norfolk.

the reviews on Trip Advisor were a bit mixed to put it mildly. There were four of us and we hadn't booked in. They also brought treats for the dog. The atmosphere is lovely, the food is great if you like shellfish and the salads are top class. The prices are modest. The food is nicer than the photos show. There is a small sign on the door saying no cards and the toilets are along the road at the pub, 20p a go ! In my view this all adds to the charm of a unique Dining venue. Visited lunchtime which was busy. I bought two prawn sandwiches and they made up two seafood platters on my own plates for me to take away. The quality of the food is very good and service prompt. I note that the majority of the people who leave bad reviews are not local, they don’t understand that this little venue wants to keep seats at tables for those having meals and spending more which is why sandwiches are take away items, I don’t have a problem with that. Neither should they. So if you want decent seafood without fuss give the place a try and accept their rules. It’s rural Norfolk, not Kensington High Street.

We used to buy crab and lobster from here and it was fantastic stuff. If you stick to just buying and then going it’s probably still worth it but I can’t recommend dining here.

We went to Cookies at about 11.30 in the morning during the week, after a walk along the Salthouse coast. All the tables outside were empty. We only wanted to sit down and have sandwich and a drink as we were having a meal in the evening. We ordered two crab sandwiches and drinks, but were told we were not allowed to sit outside and eat them and had to take them away. We also asked about toilets and were told they were not available. The sandwiches were disappointing as just some crab meat in supermarket sliced bread and not worth the money. My worst experience while on holiday in Norfolk.

After cutting our coastal walk short and opting for a dip in the sea as it was sooo hot, we decided to treat ourselves to an ice cream at Cookie’s under a parasol before loading the kids back into cars. Big mistake!

Fresh crab and great food - would eat here again. Shame not open after 5pm. Hard to park but worth the effort.

Food is nowhere near as good as it used to be and staff have a terrible attitude especially towards “kids” and don’t go in summer as they are closing all summer because one of the female staff stated “we are closing all summer because there are too many kids and all kids want is burgers”

We have been to Cookie's many times over the years and this year went again. I really wish we hadn't.

Drove quite a way to have crab sandwiches but could only have them as take away so did this and drove to the beach to eat them. Well they were awful all three of them. We were not even convinced it was all crab. It looked and tasted awful. I suspect they use all the left over bits for their sandwiches and the good stuff for their salads hence why you can’t sit and eat there with one of their sandwiches.. We were very disappointed. Also quite unfriendly staff. Won’t be going back there again.

this is 2 years on the trot that we have been let down by visiting this place, last year i walked out after being refused to allow me to pay by my visa card after the lady in front had just payed this way, this time we wanted to eat crab sandwiches at one of the completely empty tables outside we were not allowed to use the empty tables because they only do crab sarnies to take away,i am amazed that they can turn away customers like this. it wont be happening again though.

Been here a few times now, just love its quirkiness. We have always managed to get a table although they are usually very busy. Food is just great. Cant fault it. We always pay a visit after a long walk along the coast from Sheringham to Salthouse.

A group of 12 adults with 5 kids went and only 4 of us ended up actually eating here. The rest of us were told off for joining tables together to accommodate our large group, then told that 2 people could not share a plate because 'that's not how we do things!'

Think that a table with no 'reserved' sign is free? Nope, apparently not. Need more than 4 seats? Don't put the tables together because you won't get served. Want to share a meal with your other half? Don't even think about it! Need to answer the call of nature? Then you better find a bush. Oh, and if the abuse doesn't put you off then you better have some cash because they don't take cards. All in all you would be better off at the Dunn Cow pub over the road.

Best and freshest sea food we have found. Great 'Royal' platters with a nice mixture of sea foods. Sit outside on the rickety tables and enjoy the sea air and great food. One of our favourite places.

We generally pop along to Cookie’s every time we stay in Wells, and did so again last week. For me, it has long since lost its charm. It is now a conveyor belt, turning customers round very quickly, in order to maximise profit. We managed to get a table at midday (it was reserved from 1pm). You can’t go “off-menu” and the meals turned up VERY quickly, which tends to suggest they’re all pre-prepared. Don’t get me wrong, they’re tasty, but it’s just not the same any more. Their alcohol policy needs clarifying as well; we’ve always taken a bottle of wine/beers with us (it’s unlicensed), but the sign on the door suggests this is no longer allowed. They did, however, let us drink ours, as we’d come prepared for the old policy, and would probably have walked out otherwise. Doubt we’ll bother next time we go. Shame, but more and more of the North Norfolk coastline tends to be going the same way

The clue is in the word "Shop" This is a seafood shop right on the seafront that has some basic facilities to allow you to eat outside or in a next door extension. Perhaps they could make this clearer but they serve lovely fresh seafood and plenty of it. We took the precaution (on advice) of booking ahead and enjoyed a delicious lobster platter with soft drinks at a really reasonable price. OK it's a bit different but if you take the trouble to look into where you're going you should have an enjoyable meal with efficient service.

My husband and I took my 86 year old Mum to Cookies, where she’d been before, as she fancied eating crab. It is a nice location on the Norfolk coast. However, my husband doesn’t eat lunch, so I ordered a salmon and a crab meal for Mum and me and was told by the young lady behind the counter, with her very broken English, that I had to order 3 main meals. I explained that my husband doesn’t eat at lunchtime, but she insisted we order him a main meal. All the tables outside were empty, so it was not busy! My mother tried to reason with her but to no avail! I listened to her talking to my mother and could not believe how rude she was! We were all very upset and left. We went across the green and ate at The Dun Cow ... what a different experience altogether! I will never, EVER, go to Cookies again. How on earth are they still in business?!?!
