This place is amazing. There is an Aladins cave of wool/yarn downstairs. Upstairs it's an excellent range of outdoor goods, and a cafe. I go for the knitting... The selection of wool and other yarns, patterns and pattern books is amazing. Katie (who runs both the upstairs and downstairs) is a delight. Really knowledgeable and she's a knitter and crocheter herself, so she knows what she's talking about. They stock a lot of local yarns (as a lot of the wool factories are Yorkshire based) but they have a wide selection from further afield as well. A one stop shop for all your knitting and crochet needs. I have taken a couple of different people who are into their knitting (as well as me) and they've been go smacked at the selection.

Brilliant Mill, a lot to browse through great outdoor clothing and footwear range. Bought 2 jackets the other day and needed a small refund due to an error at the till. A refund of the difference was made the next day absolutely no problem at all. Carried out in a calm, considerate manner. Just proves if we are kind and understanding to each other what we humans can achieve mistakes can be made we are not robots but mistakes can be rectified. First class experience. Will be calling again.

I was in this damp smelling and outdated little place a few days ago and was appalled by the way the owner treated two of the ladies shopping in there. Reading his reply to her review here has prompted me to now write my own. From what I could gather one of the ladies from a small group had just bought some wool only minutes before and was trying to exchange it for something else she'd seen on her way out. In his reply he states that he is happy to exchange anything unused but this was definitely not the case. After being asked for the exchange he immediately became very defensive and accused the group of being drunk, which they clearly weren't, and told them to "go back to the Brown Cow". He then escalated the situation which he had created even further by announcing that he had been the owner since 1968 and that when they owned it then they could make the rules. His next move was to tell the women that they were banned! I nearly laughed out loud at the ridiculousness of the situation! Don't spend your money in this frankly overpriced time trap of a shop or encourage the pathetic tyrrany of this miserable little doom goblin. Re your reply: shushhhh now little doom goblin, ill be in soon to address this with you in person... providing I'm not barred 😁

Went here today with friends to buy wool. My friend spent a good bit of money on wool and patterns. On the way down stairs we saw another wool that was going to be better for the item to be knitted. We took the new wool to the counter appox 5 mins after paying for the wool just bought. My friend said would it be possible to swap this wool to this one we just found as it would be better. The owner said no we don't do that it's our policy, the reply was but I have just paid for this 5 mins ago. He became very rude and was quiet abusive when we said it was ridiculous as we had not even left the shop. He tried to say she could have a credit note but as she doesn't live here it was no good. He told us we should go back to the pub as he said we must have been drinking and as we don't touch alcohol this was very offensive. He then told us we were bared as if I would even go back to his shop and a biget of a man like that. Well he lost 2 sale straight away as the people behind us came out after us and said they just left the items of £170 after hearing how rude he was to us and said they don't want to buy from someone who treats customers like that. Then another couple did the asme thing, thank you to those people. Be aware if you buy here you won't be able to change anything, you may get a lot of abuse though. If I could give a 0 star I would.

I was visiting the area and and staying with a friend as live in Nottingham. I found the Mill on the Internet and, after celebrating 2 birthdays in a local pub (no alcohol as driving) my 3 friends came with me to the Mill. I picked the yarn and went upstairs to pay for it and was given a receipt. Before leaving the premises I changed my mind re the yarn I had paid for 5 minutes earlier and returned upstairs and advised the man that I was sorry to trouble him, but I had changed my mind and asked to exchange the yarn I had bought for a yarn that was £1.00 cheaper per ball and could he please put the money back on my card. He said "no" and that he does not exchange. I pointed out that I had purchased the yarn not 5 minutes since and pulled out a receipt. It was the receipt from our pub lunch. He sniggered and said that we had obviously been there drinking for most of the afternoon (which we had not) which I found seriously offensive. One of my friends said "why can't you just exchange the yarn?". He asked her "And who are you?" She replied that she was my sister. He replied that I was barred and that my sister was barred as well and not to come back. Another friend said, "how rude" and that there was no need to have such a bad attitude. He said he didn't like her attitude and to go back to the pub. I asked who the Manager was. He said that he was the Manager and had owned the place since 1983, and that he makes the rules and that if I owned the place, then I could make the rules. We were all shocked at his offensive defensive attitude and left the premises. Three women followed us out and advised us they had heard how rude he had been to us all. They had put the things they wanted to buy on his counter and told him they would not be buying from him today nor would they return, telling him they were disgusted at his rude arrogant attitude towards us and that he had lost a sale of £175.00.

What a mix of experience at this place we have used for years. Purchased some wool and a few other items and the lady downstairs was delightful - both pleasant and super helpful. Returned today for a refund following deciding not to complete the project and asked for a refund only to be barked at by the rudest of men on the checkout. All I asked him to do was explain his policy for him to reply shouting I don’t have to explain my policy , I don’t have to give refunds, I hate people like you we only exchange which was fine and then shockingly changed his mind and threw me and my wife out of the shop. In absolute disbelief over his actions - totally shocked by his extreme and aggressive behaviour. Seems they are only too happy to take your money but throw a wobbly when you change your mind. Unbelievable!!!!

Shopped in both the walking shop and the wool shop ☺️ purchased a new pair of walking shoes and winter coat. I wasn't sure if the walking shop would have a coat in my size, but they did. It was purchased at just the right time. The wool shop, although they don't sell the brand I was looking for, another was recommended and it turned out great to finish a project I'd started. We went to look for some clothing and to have a coffee, but the café was closed – permanently, by the looks of it. One of our party went to use the toilet inside the shop but there was a notice on it saying it was for café customers only – the café that is permanently closed. However, the door was ajar, there are no toilets withing miles, so she went in and used the facilities. There was no loo paper, no hand towels or hand drier, and she got a very hostile look from the unhelpful and unfriendly woman behind the shop’s counter. Café or no café, bear in mind that this shop is miles from anywhere, and the sort of place where customers are likely to spend quite some time, so a functional customer toilet is surely not asking too much. Nor is a welcoming smile. We won’t be going back.

Service was excellent throughout, with both owners/managers very personable, knowledgeable, and helpful. Lovely little place, that feels cozy and welcoming - though for me personally it was too warm with the two open fires. However I know others who would have really appreciated them! Proper local pub in a way, full of special evenings for quizzes, cheaper drinks, parties, and more. Brilliant selection of lagers both alcoholic and also non alcoholic which was nice to see. The food.... Well, just wow. There's a very special specials board, with some very unusual and interesting dishes. I went for a special starter of king prawns and roasted grapes, and it was outstanding! The game pie sounded phenomenal too, but I just wasn't hungry enough to have done it justice, so opted for a couple of other starters. My partner meanwhile went for the big fat greek grill, and he was not disappointed! The plate was laden with expertly cooked meat, and very interesting sides. We both then finished with the orange semolina cake, and it's not something you want to miss out on. However, I suspect the chocolate ice cream it came with was bought in, as it didn't taste as high quality as everything else we'd had to eat. So that was a tiny disappointment in an evening of excellent food and drink. We will definitely be returning again, because there were so many things on the menu we wanted to try, and the quality was excellent. Definitely not one to miss, but do phone and book in case you aren't as lucky as we were and they can't squeeze you in!

I’m a regular customer here and always enjoy my coffee , brought in some snacks from another place and sat in and drank. One Female worker specifically(same one that did this twice now), said you’re not allowed to eat, meanwhile there was so many others eating sushis and other big meals and they did not get told of, whereas in my case it was just a sandwich. Personally, felt like she was targeting us and did not feel comfortable. I mean if you really want people not to eat then put a sign on or address to the customers that are, instead of targeting people you feel like. The other staff have never had an issue and are very friendly, except for this one specifically.
