Coffee#1 Gloucester in Gloucester

My trip might've been more enjoyable if I didn't spend all 5 mins of it standing at the till waiting for the team to stop having their chat out back. Left without ordering, was quicker to walk somewhere else.

Always get fantastic service here. Staff are really friendly and polite, regardless of the time of day I visit. Coffee is also the best coffee I've had from a high street store. Fantastic selection of cakes and light snacks too. 10/10 would visit again.

Normally love Coffee #1. There's an excellent one in Kings Heath, Birmingham so as soon as we moved here, thought I'd visit the one in Gloucester. It's been a mixed experience and seems to depend on which staff are on duty. But today I felt very uncomfortable asking for a coffee and cake. They had turned the lights out on the food section but when I asked when they closed, I had arrived half an hour before closing. They reluctantly turned the cake section back on but when I tried to discover which was gluten free (they normally have a great selection) it was clear they didn't want to be going into any detail. I decided not to mention food intolerance as they clearly didn't have any interest in advising me. So I avoided asking for alternative milk (which they normally offer) and went with normal milk, except my request for semi-skimmed was also a no-no. It had to be full fat or skimmed. I don't remember this being the choice in other Coffee #1's, but I was told by the female who served me that it was only a choice of these two in all of the Coffee #1s. I felt that to let her know that this was very, very different from my local coffee #1 back home would be pointless as I felt you could cut the air with a knife. I eventually commented on the cold atmosphere by saying I was sad to see them looking so unhappy in their jobs. I guess I'm thinking if they don't want to serve customers after 5 pm, why don't they close the shop earlier? It's put me off going there again mid to late afternoon, but sadly, unwelcoming service will turn customers away and might mean the shop has to do what so many others have done in Gloucester...close down. Very sad.

Tired and grubby with a shortage of staff. Coffee too hot, served in a take away cup, if you want to experience this place, better be quick today they close at 3pm!

Such a friendly place to be the staff make you feel very welcome we just keep going back again and again oh the coffee is great as well

Placed an order online and have to say. Avoid this place! Received half of someone else's order delivered and nothing of ours. Called up and got someone "higher up" who had no clue what they where doing! Wanted us to sort it all out for them! They couldn't care any less that they've messed up two orders and wasted everyone else's time and money!

Very good staff, excellent coffee, very enjoyable early morning bacon roll, but why is the place so dark, gloomy and uninspiring. Despite this it was very busy, so they must be doing it right

Good lemon drizzle cake and millionaire's shortbread. Unfortunately the coffee was served in a paper cup - my absolute pet hate. Will go again - good range of cakes and sandwiches

On a day trip to Gloucester I called in for coffee and a panini. Both were good though one staff member was overdoing the friendly repartee. It was very busy which speaks volumes.

We were greeted warmly by a tall man, he made us a fantastic coffee! The service and coffee was exceptional. Highly recommend

Before lockdown I'd accumulated many loyalty points on the old "card" system. After lockdown tried to redeem these but told "we don't use cards anymore, it's all on the app" and reused to give me the one free coffee which I was entitled to. When I queried it, the position was reinforced by an equally arrogant colleague who said they could do nothing about it. I really don't believe that they couldn't have just given me a cup of coffee on the presentation of my cards!

Really disappointed my Frappe was just like a glass of milk with some syrup flavouring it was not icy cold as I was expecting it to be.

Tables cleaned mmediately and kept cleaning. Somone had spilt icecream at the bottom of the ramp and this was cleaned up as soon as they knew about it. Relaxing atmosphere as well. Only criticism is that there was a card / till failure after i had paid and the gentleman behind me in the queue offered to pay in cash, but the cashier could not work out how much it would cost! It was a very simple sum of something like £3.10 plus 40p!

Visited with my family after her graduation. There were no seats available and we asked if we could sit upstairs. The lady behind the counter said no as they were short staffed. It was not busy at all so I can only assume they do not want customers. We only stayed because we were cold and hungry. We witnessed the same lady behind the counter shout at two customers in the shop, totally unprofessional. Avoid

Starting with the positives: a good flat white and nice music. The negatives: miserable, unprofessional behaviour by 2 women serving. Grubby chairs. The cafe was virtually empty. As I approached the counter there was one lady and a young girl asking where the toilet was. As they walked off to the toilet, the two women behind the counter looked at each other, rolled their eyes and shook their heads at the lady walking away. They did this in front of me. Not a good start. The woman took my order, she could not crack a smile. When I went to scan my app it wouldn’t work. She was pointing at me impatiently telling me to do ‘something’? All I knew was to try scanning it a second time. She leaned forward impatiently and waved her hand across the front of the scanner ‘to wake it up’. So this is what she was expecting me to do. How should I know a scanner doesn’t work until this is done. I said “so it needs waking up first?” She ignored me. It clearly annoyed her that I couldn’t follow her muttering and obscure hand gesture. Miserable, impatient and rude. She’s in the wrong job and I won’t be returning

Me and my family would like to say the orange juice was ever so tasty very refreshing perfect on this sunny Friday afternoon it calmed my hayfever down also would like to say I am sorry for my child leaving a log on the floor.

I have really missed this place during lockdown still amazing coffee and the vegan meatball was really nice the staff are always really friendly for me the best coffee shop in Gloucester

I purchased a large cappuccino and realised very quickly that the only thing that was large was the cup and the price. The cup itself was half full at the most, Coffee#1 has been crossed off my list of places to go

Staff member on the till was very bubbly, and made me feel welcome. There was a bit of a queue but the staff member was on her own and very apologetic for my wait.

I can remember milkshakes with some actual milk before this didnt have any and tasted like a Heinz baby pot🤔place with no lighting and an unpleasant service no Hello no What would you like just a stare..makes your day the right way

We were greeted with a lazy ‚Hi ya’ - no smile, no friendly „What would you like?“ Just a muttered „Yes?“ No please, no thank you. The Americano didn’t taste as usual, it was watery! Disappointing visit, won’t visit again. If the service persons are fed up or not trained - why work there? Oat milk latte was tasty. Good that coffee #1 accepts dogs!

The Lady serving was on her own and coping amazingly with the usual Friday morning rush. She worked swiftly, methodically and to her maximum capability without losing her smile and composure. In doing so she ensured no customer was left hanging for longer than necessary and all were treated well. The coffee served was to the usual high standard expected. Excellent work under clear pressure = an excellent coffee shop.

Good swift service with a warm welcome combined with excellent snack ( bacon roll) and green tea served in a tea pot ! Quiet atmosphere despite being quite busy. Good place for a early / mid morning refresh stop.

On my visit to Coffee 1, ordered two single espresso receiving only one. When asked the staff for the other one was told that in my order was only one, asked to pay for another one as had asked for two not one. Staff gave another one refusing payment despite my insistence, saying “ that will delay our que. Until here nothing majorly wrong apart from the clear difference of quality of the second espresso. Not planning on coming back.

I love your coffee and the ambience of the Gloucester branch, the staff are always fantastic, but it would be great if in the summer months you made your outside tables non-smoking. As you open the doors wide it makes it impossible to drink coffee or dine here on the ground floor in the summer months. I’d prefer no open doors so I could occasionally enjoy the window seat. Instead I always have to go upstairs in the summer months because downstairs reeks of smoke. As a non-smoker cigarette smoke is so strong to me and I’m sure it puts other people off too, especially as food is made and served from the ground floor.

The place takes you back at the roots of developing the best coffee. You can see the process on the wall paintings. They really put soul in their products and services. Desserts are exquisite. Try Pain au Chocolate or Lotus Cheesecake. After your first bite you will want that daily.

The coffee is second to none and the staff are brilliant. If anything, I'm in danger of liking them TOO much!!! 😂

Oops. Poor visit. Tables not cleared, food leftovers everywhere. Should have left but we stayed. Well the ham and cheese croissant was a disaster. First attempt cold throughout. Second attempt totally incinerated. Last visit from us.

I’ve never experienced customer service as I’ve received today totally ignored and made to feel unwelcome and left without my coffee I had purchased because the staff made me feel uncomfortable and I will definitely not be returning to this particular coffee shop.

I’ve been to coffee #1 before and normally receive good friendly Serivce but I brought my girlfriend here for the first time and not only were we served poorly, but our drink order was wrong and when I went down to query it I was treated like an idiot for asking about my drink, needless to say I won’t be bringing her here again

Nice coffee and great choice of cakes etc. Puts Costa etc to shame. Does feel like an independent but seen the chain round Gloucestershire. Started to make the journey into veggie / vegan food too. Keep it up.

Really lovely feeling in the store ! Staff chatty and flat white lush ! Seasonal was really tasty ! Would definitely visit again . Toast was nice too

Never been to a Coffee1# before, this one had very friendly young girls staffing on our visit Sunday 23rd. Quite busy with regulars. We had Hot Choc with the works including shots of flavoured syrup, Oh boy were they good, tons of cream, lots of mini marshmallows. the Cappuccino was also very good. Spotted the Welsh Cakes amongst the yummy goodies on display, they were so nice and warmed up at just the right temperature. There is an upstairs but we managed to get a table with the Chesterfield sofa & chairs, so comfy. Despite how busy they were you didn't feel pressured to leave quickly.

Fantastic service each and every visit, even when seemingly busy. It's amazing what even the slightest bit of kindness can do to a person's mood, so to consistently receive great service like this really makes you feel welcome. I cannot recommend the staff enough.

Coconut hot chocolate was a great tasty dairy free option, but, abit bitsy towards the end so don’t drink to the bottom!

no wonder if they sit in the window uncovered all day...however the cheesecake was moist and light, the place hasn't got much of a spark, but service ladies are still O K

Decided to try Coffee#1 and sampled their epic 'Pina Colada' smoothie while we were there. After coming in from the blazing hell like heat outside we enjoyed the cool air conditioned atmosphere immediately (in most tasteful surroundings too) and were further treated to the 2 for 1 smoothie offer they had on that day (Monday.)

Enjoyed tea and cake here with friends recently. Busy but not overly crowded. Service was good, as was the cake!

My daughter asked this morning if the coconut milk contained soya (as some brands do) as she has an allergy. The women who was serving pushed the milk container to her in a rude and patronising way, with the attitude of ‘check yourself’ if you’re so fussy ! Both members of staff had faces like a snacked you know what. Left deciding this was our first and last visit, which is a shame as it is a lovely looking coffee shop in a good location.

Quick stop in here to refuel during a busy lunch time. Always pretty busy as its a popular place to stop.

Cash only as the card machines stopped working, asked about nuts in the food, the staff could not find the exact ingredients and just assured us that there were no nuts. Toasted ciabatta was ok but the salad was wilting and brown on parts. Won't be going back anytime soon.

Great seating upstairs ay from hustle and bustle. Perfect coffee and rather nice pastries. Never a long queue and staff very friendly.

This morning my partner and I were in a rush so we ordered coffee and hot croissants which were lovely. The staff were very polite and friendly and there was a lot of choice of sandwiches, wraps, savoury croissants and cakes (+veggie options)

We had 30 mins to spare before a shop nearby opened, so went in search of a coffee in the pedestrianised zone. First coffee shop looked promising but had no decaff. Came across Coffee#1 by chance. Surprisingly spacious and pleasant, and on a good day would have got4 or 5 stars. Good coffee, but let down by uncleared tables and stale pastries. I will return on a weekday as this feels like somewhere to use more often.

It's one of the coziest places that i know in Gloucester city centre. Fast and Good service. Always pleasant staff. A great place to take your coffee break after a busy day in town. Lovely atmosphere.

Visited on a Sunday lunchtime. Very few people in the café so we were served straight away. Their coffee is very smooth and tasty! My favourite of any coffee shops around. If you want a nice coffee, try a caramel macchiato in here.

Despite living in Gloucester and walking past this coffee shop numerous times have never visited until yesterday ! Was with my son and decided to try it, whilst i found the area very dark, there was very pleasant staff, good coffee and a fabulous selection of cakes.

Popped in for a quick brew-bit of a queue!! Staff pleasant surroundings spacious. More convenience than anything else. If in the area again would probably try a different venue.

We popped in for breakfast and had coffee, hot chocolate, almond croissant and toasted tea cake. Tea cake was huge and good value but had only been introduced to the toasted so not entirely toasted or warm. My partners coffee looked as if it came out of a push button machine rather than proper coffee machine. Short of staff so after order taken I had to wait while for everything to be got together. Size of tea-cake was it's only good feature

Popped in for a coffee as saw they were doing a pumpkin spiced latte. Well worth it, good service and best flavoured coffee since the states . Clean , good staff, well worth a visit

I have visited three different branches in less than a week but if your going to go in a chain this has to be the best. As with others this branch has comfy seating nice decor friendly staff and serves a very good flat white

Not too expensive and very charming and interesting interior design. The hot chocolates are great, and worth taking a risk if trying a new one.

Very often go to Coffee#1 instead of Costa or Cafe Nero. If you're planning to sit in then i'd recommend this place as it has a very comforting feel & great decor. The drinks are expensive & so is the food, but it's worth the extra pennies ;).

An amazing environment for probably the best Flat White I have ever had! I may be a coffee snob but I must confess that this was an amazing coffee within a very relaxed environment with comfy chairs and a library of books. I will come again. Thank you

Since Starbucks have closed I have been a coffee1 addict. Meet my son here weekly for a coffee and salted pretzel. Plenty of room up stairs.

I had a delicious mint choc chip mocha which was presented well and reasonably priced. The coffee shop had plenty of seating and it was very clean and tidy.

I came here on a Saturday for lunch and it was not too busy which surprised me since it's such a lovely place. Had a great soup. Lovely atmosphere.

Although a chain, I find this place a lot more welcoming than those on Southgate Street. There's a variety of seating on the ground floor and more upstairs. The coffee is good and they also do fruit juices if you're looking for a healthy option.

I come here quite regularly and they always have a good coffee or hot chocolate, they are quite inventive with the different drinks and it is the cheapest coffee shop in Gloucester that I have found!

I'm working away at the moment but when I'm based at home in Gloucester, I typically visit a couple of times a week. Although a chain, the shops seem a bit more individual than the better known chains. The coffee is very good, staff are friendly, the Welsh Cakes are excellent!

Excellent newish coffee shop with an exciting selection of coffees. We had a mocha and a pumpkin and cinnamon coffee. Comfortable eclectic chairs. Very friendly staff. Fabulous location.

We dropped in here for a coffee and late breakfast on our way to Kingsholm for game 2 of RWC2015. The food was fine, but the flat white was even better. The service was a bit haphazard, but overall probably an experience worth repeating.

Always had great coffee at the Winton branch so pleased to find one on our visit here, above and beyond the main top 3 coffee chains so would love to see more on the south coast eg Poole, Christchurch and Dorchester as I think they would do well as the Winton Bournemouth shop is always busy. They use proper cream on the hot chocolate and Mocha's and they coffee tastes great and the cakes are yummy, you get much more dor your money here.

Lovely on a sunny afternoon to sit in the sun or tuck yourself away in the warm depths in the winter. Home made delights available all year round.

Plenty of space, lots of choice of cakes. Ate upstairs, with plenty of room. Very similar to the one in Newbury (Berkshire).

We have visited Coffee#1 in several locations and have always enjoyed our visits, Gloucester is no exception. The coffee is excellent and the choice of cakes, snacks and cold drinks very good. It is nice to sit, relax and enjoy your coffee in a spacious environment where the tables are well spaced so that you are not forced to listen to everyone else's conversations. The staff are always pleasant and polite and it is so nice to be made to feel welcome on your arrival and be thanked as you leave.

I am unashamedly a fan of this chain! And I am a frequent customer.

There now appears to be a more senior manager working here: and it shows. The staff working behind the counter are now guided and led by a strong manager who is making this restaurant more efficient. It's good, but they're not quite up to speed with some of the other larger chains yet.

Good service - nice atmosphere, great coffee. Good to get out of the cold, but not too hot in the place - some just end up roasting you......nice staff

Visited this coffee shop for the first time today ~ so glad we did. Service with a smile (an increasing rarity nowadays), super decaf coffee and hot chocolate, and very reasonably priced. Will certainly call in again and make a point of visiting the coffee#1 in Tewkesbury.

If you care about the quality of coffee, this is a good place to visit. I use all the big coffee chains, but it's always great to find somewhere a bit different. The coffee and food were very good and there was a cool ambience about the place. Friendly and attentive staff; I shall look out for the other branches. Thanks, guys!

Our first visit was to the Cirencester Coffee #1 - excellent coffee, delicious pastries and friendly service as well as a very charming atmosphere, if a little cramped. Gloucester Coffee #1 is similar but service is slow and the management of the pass non-existent. Downstairs works but upstairs is like a dull conference room which is a pity - a room full of rather nice furniture and bits and pieces which does not become more than the sum of the parts. Hot drinks were not hot enough but the pastries and cakes were good - fresh, rich and tasty. The manager needs to realise that it is her job to manage the pass, not float around getting in the way of her staff. It is so disappointing to watch as without her they would be able to do so much better a job which would really improve the customer experience. Sort out the pass and get the coffee out hot and you'll be on a par with Cirencester!

Such a nice little coffee shop to go and chill in, we popped in for a quick coffee during a shopping trip and the coffee was excellent. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great.

We normally go to the Monmouth Coffee#1 and find this to have good service so dropped in here for a snack.

Popped in for a quick lunch, it was not busy, two girls behind counter, plenty of empty tables but none of them cleared, both assistants stood and chatted to each other while another customer and myself cleared a table each!! The selection of sandwiches and cakes was good, the coffee was also good although it took an age for them to make it, very disorganised and terrible service, go somewhere else there are plenty of coffee shops around

Used to love this place but recently it's gone right downhill there seems to be a lack of supervision but all the girls working there are interested in is talking. They don't listen to what the customer is ordering and as a result things constantly go wrong. The quality of the coffee is now very inconsistent and almost every time I visit you can hear crockery being smashed behind the counter,surprised they have any left. What this place needs is strong management to bring standards back and ban the chit chat behind the counter.

Quite often pop in here. Always feels friendlier & more homely than the big chains. Nice mismatch rustic furniture. Nice selection of cakes. On one occasion they got my drink wrong but were very apologetic & immediately changed it.

Bumped into my partner's parents while out shopping. Decided to stop for coffee. Yummy Welsh cakes. Very happy boyfriend!! (he can't get enough of them!!!!)

My wife and I quite often pop in here on a Saturday or Sunday morning and I have worked from here a couple of times. No Wifi (a disadvantage for my work) but you can pick up public Wifi from a few of the neighbours if you sit in the right places.

The staff have got a terrible attitude. They are very unfriendly and need to pay more attention to there customer service. Avoid!!!!
