Coffee#1 Above Bar in Southampton

I go to coffee #1 frequently. The main reason, apart from the great coffee, is the staff. Very friendly and polite. Last time I went though there were two new people. They couldn't- and didn't even try to- hide they wanted to close the shop and go home. The man collected the outside chairs and tables half an hour before closing time, put away the water bottles instead of refilling them, an hour before closing time. He even asked to take our tray when I believe there was no rush. They lady at some point said really loudly something like " I really want to go home." I understand it was Friday afternoon but that behaviour only makes customers feel unwelcome. Please keep the old staff on Fridays, when I usually visit the place. They are lovely.

Will not visit again. The tables and chairs were dirty and even though they were not busy, there were no sign of anything being cleaned. What really disappointed us was the fact that the staff were smoking/vaping in the doorway, so fumes were coming back inside!

I visited coffee1 for a festive hot chocolate. It was very tasty and I will definitely be back. The store was very busy, and the staff were doing well to keep up with this. The staff were very friendly and welcomed me with a smile, despite that were only 2 of them. It appeared as though there was no support from local stores or higher management, with them being short staffed. I have been to other local stores, and they seem to always be short staffed too. I felt sorry for them, and want to thank them for their hard work despite being rushed off their feet. I cannot fault the staff or drinks.

The staff were very helpful and can not thank pat enough for his kindness ...my faith in humanity is restored...from an old lady 😊

The staff here are all fantastic, very friendly and the coffee and snacks are superb If you have a well behaved dog bring them along they are more welcome than us mere humansb

Grumpy non greeting, no toast available as advertised, no apologies for no toast so no custom from us, went to the superior Caffe nero 2 doors away for teacake, nice coffee and friendly service.

Such a friendly and warm atmosphere. I was served by a friendly and smiley lady called Charlene. She made me feel very welcome and gave me some options and recommendations. I decided to go for a latte today, it was perfectly made with a lovely sweet heart on top! I will definitely be returning again. Clean and covid safe. Managed well.

Great coffee, great staff and great service. The staff are always polite and courteous, even if many of the customers aren't.

Had to complain that the coffee was cold, the server and his lackey thought it would be good customer service to laugh at me. Perhaps with future customers show some empathy, apologize and ask if you their is anything you can do to resolve the problem. Not laugh. The server then went and stood outside for a smoke. Doesn't look very professional but thats just my opinion.

My lovely wife and I called into Coffee #1 for a drink the other day. The coffee was pretty good but I didn't feel the place was entirely Covid safe. Some of the seating is way too close together making it impossible to social distance. Moreover, tables weren't being wiped down between guests meaning we had to ask somebody to clean our table for us. I wouldn't rush back until life returns to something like normality.

Today I popped into coffee1 above bar and was wonderfully welcomed by the staff. They were full of smiles and happy to help. Zac was polite, cheerful, and happy to chat, and George was equally smiley and friendly. I had an iced coconut latte which tasted beautiful! You can tell the staff are well trained and make great coffee. Definitely the best coffee in town! When getting my straw for my drink, they let me carefully pick my own straw from a small selection, this is better than other coffee shops, as they tend to put a straw in for you. I felt more comfortable picking my own due to covid19 worries. The store is clean and respectful of current social distancing, with sanitiser at the door and helped me to feel at ease when ordering my takeaway coffee. Like most stores, they are using plastic screens which aren’t as clinical as other stores, it’s nice to order coffee without the need to repeat yourself. I was sad to see that the store is takeaway only, as I would’ve loved to sit in, but better to be safe than sorry. Although, I sat outside which was allowed. I will definitely be back to above bar coffee1 again!

The Southampton cafe is one of my regular “watering holes” - we popped in last Sunday 15/12 and as always, despite being very busy owing to the Christmas shoppers, the staff were very pleasant, smiling, helpful, efficient and attentive - this makes such a nice change from establishments where the staff seem too rushed to remember customer service. The seasonal festive drinks were lovely (my choice was chocolate orange hot chocolate) and beautifully presented, generously decorated with cream and gold-coloured chocolate balls - just the thing to get you into the right Christmas spirit! This cafe also caters well for those with allergies and food intolerances, and nothing is too much trouble for the capable staff. Well done Coffee No 1 Southampton!

Im a regular at coffee #1, and the gentleman serving me today (29/11) was very attentive, positive and friendly with customers, and towards other staff members. Food was delicious as always.

I come he often for a hot chocolate and the staff are always wonderful today due to the delivery being late they had run out of hot chocolate so I was given a coupon for a free one at a later date,by Gemma who has always been particularly lovely. All of the staff are friendly often carrying my things to the table as I have a mobility problem. There are no faults and it has the best hot chocolate in the city centre!

Acabo de visitar la tienda de café Weymouth # 1, y francamente me sorprendió absolutamente el servicio y el estándar del café. Soy habitual en esta tienda todas las semanas y nunca he tenido un servicio tan deficiente por parte del equipo.Esperé 20 minutos por mis dos cafés, sin ninguna disculpa del personal. Todos los clientes se quejaban del mal servicio y la calidad de los alimentos y bebidas que se servían.Espero que el equipo de administración examine a los miembros del equipo que estaban trabajando hoy, ya que no eran profesionales y carecían de servicio al cliente.No volveré a esta tienda como cliente habitual y felizmente llevaré mi negocio a otras cafeterías independientes en el futuro.

Attractive interior and ambiance, wide range of coffees and cakes. Two regular cappuccinos and a latte £7.80. Pleasant and hard working staff. Would recommend.

This is my regular coffee shop as work just a few stores down. Always greeted by smiling faces from Kirtsy and PJ! And always make my regular drunk to the perfection! Thanks guys :)

The coffee is nice the atmosphere good lube outside watching the world go by! The Welsh Cakes are so hard they could be rock cakes!. Such a disappointment!

Love coffee 1, always a good experience here. All I will say though is that they always seem really understaffed. They do a really good job for so few of them. Hope they get appreciated from head office but knowing these sort of places they probably don't which is a shame

Popped in for a lovely soya chocolate with my other half, the lovely staff working all day on there feet and open when there is no one expect as been sat for a 1hour and no other customers.

I popped into Coffee #1 Above bar, I had never been in before (although I have had a hot chocolate before) but popped in to get a quick drink. The staff were lovely and constantly smiling.

Great place to sit, staff were friendly and service was very fast. The coffee was OK a bit bitter but would come back for a nice place to sit and work as opposed to Starbucks.

Paid for a large El Nino smoothie and was served a regular one...the male barista was grumpy and radiated anger. His female colleague was friendly and hospitable but all her efforts could not compensate...

Great place to meet up with friends and have the good coffee or any other drink from menu. Good choice of drinks and desserts. Their cheesecake is the best!

Had a good meal just around the corner and was looking to chat a bit more over a cup of coffee and catch up on recent news. My friend who lives in the city suggest this place. It was busy which is always a good sign. Found an empty table but not yet cleaned. My fiend's other half ordered the cofffees over the counter whilst we sat down. One member of staff came almost right away to clean and clear the table. Very plesant and polite young lady. We chatted for over an hour, despite it being full it was not a noisy place. Good coffee and great location, recommended.

Spent several house in the coffee shop today meeting with friends. Friendly staff. My favourite place for chai latte and I tried the turmeric latte today which was pretty good too. Portuguese custard tarts were fabulous too.

Lovely atmosphere, also good coffee and pot of tea. The ham and cheese croissants were particularly yummy. Played some very good music tracks at a nice low level, enabling us to chat without shouting. Very friendly and helpful staff, keep this up and you will soon outdo the local opposition.

I love trying new places definately recommend. Good choice of cakes and dairy free options. The decor is quirky and cool. Tasty coffee and different . I like to come back try there savoury options .

Arrived from Australia with my dad and had the best Mocha and flat white! The sweet lady was very kind to us and a pleasure to chat with. The coffee we had somewhere else was burnt and undrinkable. We went in to Coffee#1 and it was perfect!! Strongly recommend to coffee lovers!!!

The coffee is okay, maybe not as strong as i would like. We've been regular customers for about 5 months but feel disappointed as during this time we've never detected a single sign of appreciation or recognition of our loyal custom. A smile or even a hello would be nice. The premises are lovely though. Comfortable chairs and lovely decor.

This was my first visit here. I felt frankly unwelcome even though it wasn't really that busy. A bowl of soup was from a bought-in carton, which I could have picked up on my way back to the office and microwaved for myself rather than paying a premium price for unfriendly service.

I was walked alone and then ordered myself a drink, waiting for the rain to stop. It was quite crowded inside but not much queue. However the male staff was giving a very terrible service. He doesn't really want to serve customer, maybe because I was foreigner here. He left me after I just made my payment and not even make a right drink. It was really stupid. Not even any apology. even he denied that he made a wrong drink. Fortunately, he still make a new one but it still a horrible one. Not recommeded to go to this outlet

As regular users of the excellent branch in Winton we thought we would try the Southampton branch on our visit to the area. As it was lunch time we ordered soup and twice asked that it be served very hot. What arrived was not only lukewarm but completely tasteless. When I requested salt and pepper I was informed there was none on the premises. I then requested a refund which took several members of staff several minutes to work out how to give this. We will stick to the superb Winton branch in future!

Guessing service is staff deoendant... Generally speaking I've always had a nice drink or food here with good service. However standing in a queue for over 10 minutes waiting to be served only to be told by someone chewing gum (whilst serving customers!!) that they don't have the supplies isn't good service. At least put a sign up or state on the drinks board when something isn't available!

Popped in for the 1st time as there was a huge queue in Starbucks. It’s lovely in here, atmosphere is busy but a nice lively, and the latte tastes so much better, we also had a gingerbread person which was amazing. All in all I will never go to another coffee place on the high street now. I’m converted.

Having dodged all the main high street coffee shops I decided to try here as it felt part way between a huge chain and an independent.

Atmospheric coffee house with lots of choices, loose left tea and cakes. Found a lovely table near the window so I could recharge my phone and watch the world go by outside. There is outside seating. Friendly staff and served very quickly. Plenty of room for prams and bags!

I made a point to go past Coffee #1 after a good experience with them during my last stop in Southampton. Once again, the staff were very friendly and approachable and the cakes on display all looked amazing!

I am a frequent customer I just love the relaxed seating and choices to drink . My favourite place to chill out on my own or with my husband and friends ..

What a refreshing change, a coffee chain that treats customers as friends rather than a money tree. Whilst meeting my daughter when in Southampton we decided to visit the Above Bar branch for coffee and tea. The coffee was delicious and the tea threw up surprise in that the pot of tea was made with leaf tea instead of bags, what a novelty for a cafe (normal for me at home). Although we didn't eat on this occasion, there was a good selection of sandwiches, cakes and biscuits. The surroundings were comfortable and clean. The staff were friendly and attentive without being over-powering. We will be eating there again. Well done to the Above Bar branch.

Very enjoyable decor, good atmosphere. Happy friendly server. Had white hot chocolate, ok but nothing special, along with a chocolate cake, just a shame it was a shop bought one and not made there

Also in Fareham, Gosport & Eastleigh makes all others insignificant !! Presentation of food looks beautiful and the conveniences are clean & usable !

Visited here today Lovely place. Had a cheese and Mushroom cuissant went to bite into it and it was COLD in the middle..told the girl behind the counter to ping it in the Microwave so did .. Coffee was good as always ..

Shirley Coffee #1 and town Coffee#1 are great to sit down with a first class cup of coffee and a good book...what a great way to spend an hour or more

I discovered Coffee #1 during my last trip to Southampton. While I can't comment on their signature coffee, which I didn't try, I did sample a couple of their tempting desserts!

After a shocking and rude service from *bucks over the rd we took our business to this joint. Friendly staff , great service and great products. Highly recommended. thank you !

This is a nice, modern cafe which has a homely feel. There is some soft seating at the back which looks like the book corner. The coffee was good though not cheap. I will go back as I liked the ambience.

The coffee is actually detectable in comparison to Costa. The selection is wide. The decor is calming and uncluttered. The pricing and service is good too. And the background music is not loud.

Found this place by chance and was not disappointed. Excellent choice of coffees and a wide range of freshly made snacks and cakes. Whilst not cheap the quality of what was on offer would make me recommend this to friends and will certainly visit again

My friend is a regular visitor to the Portswood branch, used to be a regular at the Eastleigh branch, and I've visited both of those on a couple of occasions. Can't praise them high enough. So when we saw a new branch had opened in the city centre we were so pleased there would finally be a decent coffee shop to meet in. How wrong we were. We visited on Saturday afternoon. The queue at the counter was about 15-20 mins long, only seemed to be two staff, and tables weren't cleared. My friend ordered (and paid for) coffee with soya milk, then was told soya milk wasn't available.... and they wouldn't refund for it. She couldn't drink the coffee - said it was hot water that had been shown a coffee pot. My hot chocolate was watery too, and luke warm. Maybe it was just an off day, but we won't be hurrying back to find out.

Great selection of food, lovely, friendly staff and great atmosphere! Place is clean and tidy, with a decent look! Drinks are amazing!!
