Coffee#1 in Torbay

This coffee shop looks quite inviting and is pleasant inside, but that's about the end of the positives I was on my own with time to spare before catching a train. Female member of staff at till served me - one latte and a slice of tiffin. She did put these on a tray but despite no one else waiting and the fact she could see I was already balancing two heavy bags, didn't offer to carry it over to a table ... Managed to get to a table with a balancing act of bags and tray ... tiffin was 'ok' at best (£2.70 for quite a tiny slice) but either they have a problem with their display cabinet of they just keep everything over night in a very cold fridge as it was so cold it was rock hard Coffee was supposed to be a latte - clearly no barista training as it was a coffee with some foam on the top badly presented - and far too hot A shame as one of the nicer looking places in Paignton for coffee Focus needed on improving barista training, food storage and customer service

I use this venue regularly, and the staff are always friendly, which is why l'm happy to visit there often.

This is probably one of the worst places I have been to. The coffee was tasteless and badly served in a paper cup even though I was inside the shop. The table was sticky and really needed a good clean. It's a shame because this place used to be quite good but has seriously gone downhill.

Myself and my husband love this place they have a good selection of gluten free cakes that are very yummy and the staff are very knowledgeable on allergies. We are always served with a smile and our dog always gets fuss. It’s our favourite place to go.

In a good position near Gold Hill. Nice coffee and cake and friendly staff. It was busy when we tried it.

A nice coffee shop perfectly positioned in the main area of Paignton which sells a wide range of hot & cold beverages, plus a delicious selection of cakes as well as sandwiches & hot snacks, on my 1st visit I had a friendly experience & was served a well made hot drink but on my 2nd attempt I was disappointed with the service along with a very tepid weak cappuccino plus my slice of cheesecake was warm & soggy.

Coffee was OK but I ordered toast for breakfast which the server forgot to make.Finished my coffee do had to get a refund for the rest.Will be watching account to see if its refunded. Obviously not up to the job and will not be back

Had 30 minutes to have a drink and snack so popped in for the first time. Seemed like most other coffee shops/cafes of its type. Staff polite and generally OK. Ordered black tea and the last bacon bap. Tea OK served in a pot but had to chase up bap after seeing it go quiet behind the counter and 12 mins after order was paid for. Yes it was there between the hot plates of the toaster. It arrived with the brown sauce as ordered, luke warm to the touch, when I took the top off to spread the sauce the edges of both sides of bun were burnt and the bacon cremated one side but OK on the underside. Having no alternative but to leave or eat as it was the last one I ate it. The brown sauce helped disguise the taste but it was dreadful. The server must have seen it and an apology would have helped at the time, unless this is how they are meant to be ! Thanks.

I was served by a very rude disinterested member of staff, the place was dirty, tables and floor both unclean, and the staff are looking bored and don't value customers, not good to say the least, will not be rushing back and can not recommend

Ordered via just eat - missing main item I called and asked they send what was missing but advised they could not deliver but I’ve just had a delivery minus part of my order!!! Now have to wait a week to get the refund via just eat- not good enough I only ordered three items and a drink No care taken clearly The 1 star rating is purely for the poor service The part of order I received was very tasty and a lovely coffee Shame as a future potential regular customer I’ll not order again

My partner and I had come in for a takeaway chocolate frappe. We came in a 1715. The cafe closes at 1730. We were not served due to the staff turning off the tills early to give it a ‘grace period’. Despite the fact that the tills would be off all night anyway. It’s not as if they could have gone home early if we had not come in, as there were other costumers still sat at the tables. I guess we’ll stick to Costa after all.

A little gem - coffee-wise. Lovely coffee - cant go wrong. Tasty as. Staff friendly. Some strange locals seem to meet there ,adding to my people watching. Seats could be comfier. The floors inside looked half clean. The outside was a disgrace - ugly as. The outside coffee area where the few tables are, should be hosed down daily to spruce it up or at least given a decent hard brush to remove blown in litter and tab ends. A good coffee shop spoilt by cleanliness/ pride issues.

I went to coffee 1 paignton today the shop is filthy so we left again. I was surprised to see so many people in such a dirty place. I think that's why these places r dark inside so you can't see the skank.

Love lattes at Coffee no 1, this was no exception, really creamy and hot. It was a busy day as the Airshow was on, but managed to find a seat to relax for a bit. Tables were being cleared quickly and service was quick.

I been a going to many of these and I must say these guys are amazing, anyone that knows retail know they have to other different products to sell to up sell they even do it to my self. But I need to say a big thanks as my friend had her loyalty car stolen and all the guys had a look for it as it had 20 free drinks on it, because she couldn’t find it they gave her a new card and put 20 back on there for her.

Having been to other Coffee #1 stores in the South West multiple times before, my friend and I thought we’d give the Paignton branch a shot. I wish we hadn’t. Straight away, we were bombarded by the bossy barista who demanded that we choose a blend of coffee for our drinks. Though we both appreciate a good cup of coffee, neither my friend nor I are experts – yet the barista insisted that we choose either the medium blend or the richer roast, initially not even explaining the difference between the two. She wouldn’t even had told us about the price difference of 30p between the two blends had I not asked. Both my friend and I opted for the medium blend, yet the barista continued in her attempt to convince us to purchase the stronger blend for the higher price. In addition to poor service on the purchasing front, we also had to clear our own table both when sitting down and leaving. Overall, the coffee was okay, but moderately ruined by poor and bossy service. Unfortunately, we will not be visiting this branch again.

We’ve always enjoyed Coffee #1, Newton Abbot and Exeter being our favourites. The decor is cosy and the staff are some of the friendliest around, they get it right every time.

I visit Coffee 1 whenever I am in Paignton. Until recently I was always served by a nice male staff member, however on the last two occasions I have been served by a woman ‘with attitude’! Made to feel unwelcome. Several of us had to clear our tables before we sat down. I may give this place a miss for a while.

I have been visiting Coffee 1 in Paignton most days for the last two weeks.

I and several of my family and friends have been going to Coffee#1 on a regular basis for the last few months,nearly every time we get served by a certain lady I can guarantee that the coffee will be only luke warm she tell me that all the coffee goes out at the same temperature as a thermometer is used So I watched her today and noticed that she served me my coffee well below the the recommended temperature I complained about it and she redid another coffee but still at a low temperature we all had a meeting today and we have decided to go to a coffee shop around the corner if things don't buck up all the other staff are very friendly and helpful just this one I don't think she likes her job maybe she should be replaced

I've had some mixed experiences in Coffee #1 branches. However, Paignton gets things right, on the basis on a couple of recent experiences. Enough staff to cope with differing levels of demand (not always the case at other branches) and all of those staff friendly and helpful. The food actually existed, rather than all being sold out (as we experienced at another branch) and was well above the usual coffee-bar standard. The coffee had good flavour and elevated the experience above that of many of the better known places on the high street. Well done to those involved in the Paignton branch.

We visit both this branch and the one in Torquay on a regular basis.

Great coffee shop wirh a great range of gluten free cakes and the other cakes some great eats available

Central Paignton doesn’t seem to offer lots of options for coffee/breakfast, so we opted for this place, which was ok. Good espresso, cappuccino, panini and Portuguese custard tarts.

Good coffee, friendly staff and nice decor. It does shut surprisingly early in the evening though. Fine for a quick stop though.

My daughter and I would go nowhere else but Coffee One these days. The service ,coffee and food are always consistently good. Dan is a credit to the team he is very professional but friendly and always has a smile even when its so busy..which is often the case. All the staff are there to help. We always feel welcome and the coffees are great! Would go nowhere else in Paignton

Visited with colleagues, what a really nice environment to sit and enjoy a drink.Everyone in my group was really pleased with their coffees and smoothies and the very friendly service. I ordered tea, which is always a bit tricky in a coffee shop! However, I was very pleasantly surprised to receive 'loose' tea in a teapot rather than a lonely teabag in a mug of hot water! It was perfect. Thank you, we'll be back

Went to coffee#1 with my daughter stood in the queue for about 10 mins while they were serving. Not especially busy at the time the lady on the till was giving everyone alot of attitude and moaning about her shift being to long. Anyway placed our order two regular latte when they were made the milk was burnt and foam half way down the mug returned them to be remade and when they came back they were even worse and served in dirty mugs. My advice go somewhere where they want your custom and where they can make coffee. Got a refund and left.

My husband and I visited Coffee1 in Paignton recently, and with a que of 9 people, there was only 1 serving! After a 20 minute wait, the woman in front asked why is the staff member on her own "there is others, but they are in a meeting" GREAT TIME FOR A MEETING, 11am on a busy morning with lots of customers queing! HAVE YOUR MEETING BEFORE WORK STARTS OR AFTER!. Coffee abd toast was great, but was told there was no butter or margarine! and the girl said she couldn't go out on her own which is understandable. But again, no excuses at all, there should have been enough butter/margarine at the start of the day. Very poor, but the coffee was very nice and the toast with no butter was edible.

I popped in and visited this coffee#1 store today to have a bite to eat/drink from walking in the decor look great. went to the till to order, and waited about 5 minutes to be served with there only being me at the till I thought this was poor. Finally I was served after the girl had finished on her phone. I ordered a ham crossitant and a classic juice, to be told I couldn't have it, the machine wasn't working. I asked for a chai latte instead.

Being out and about there is a range of coffee shops serving variable quality of coffee. Our favourite has become Coffee No.1, good quality coffee and helpful staff. they do 'lite lunches' and snacks.

I recently visited the Paignton store, I was served by a lovely young lady, I'm unsure of her name but she had a tattoo on her hand, she was a real credit to the place. Best latte I've had for a very long time. Very satisfied customer and definitely recommend this place!

Me and two of my friends came to coffee #1 in paignton for a hot drink and some cake. We were served by two ladies. Both with dark hair at about 14:20 on Monday, the two members of staff were bickering evidently in front of us and other customers one said “today is not my day, so do not to start” and arguing over tea spoons and saying “that’s not my problem” to each other in front of us! the service was appalling one of the ladies was also chewing gum in front of the customers very unprofessional. Slamming down crockery in anger, and shouting “for goodness sake!! Leave the tap on!!” Between then. After asking how big the “baby shake was” one of the ladies just held up her two fingers and signed to show us a rough idea... no service with a smile. No warm welcome just two women that would rather be at home!!! Will never visit again and will tell my associates not to bother.

Two people busy behind counter, had to wait 5 minutes to be acknowledged but. When the coffee came it was worth the wait.

The coffee didnt taste as nice as usual for some reason, it wasnt as smooth as it normally is and had a strong bitter taste, , unfortunately the almond Croissant was terrible also, the filling inside had gone off and tasted tangy and my partners welsh cakes were very stale also . However this is the 1st time I have ever had a bad thing to say about coffee 1, as we use them regularly, but our visit to paignton was the first bad review we hace done, it must have been a busy day for them and the cakes may have been out of date, I didnt complain as it was just to busy. But still love Coffee1, so 5 stars all round we all have off days

Visited this, my favourite local coffee shop, for a Saturday afternoon treat of coffee and cake.. It was at least 45 minutes before closing, however staff more interested in clearing up than in serving customers! It was over two minutes before someone noticed I was waiting to be served. They would also only serve coffee in take-away cups, rather than china cups and mugs which rather spoiled the whole idea of going out for a treat.

We decided to try this place, that looks lovely, nice out door seating. One of us has a nut allergy, asked for assistance and no one seemed to know which cakes were ok for us, after about 10 mins of waiting we just left.

Popped for a tea and was pleasantly surprised. Every detail and well thought and tea was perfect and I felt like they really thought about there coffee source and quality of beans.

Lovely coffee, great selection. Also choice of hot chocolates and smoothies. Very good service as well.

Very very dark inside with drab green walls and horrid 'lighting' Service quick and friendly. Good selection of cakes and pastries! And nice drinks! But so depressing to stay in there for any length of time! Seats not too comfortable either!

I am local and visited here in Jan 2017. The staff and owner are friendly and welcoming, and the coffee is good. The shop goes back a long way, and I had a table towards the back out of the way of the door.

Unfortunately on visiting our favourite coffee place coffee one. We have to say that paignton are way down thr scale to torquay coffee one when it comes to child friendly staff.

The coffee is fine and I had a chai late today which was quite nice, although it felt quite creamy for a skinny version.

We have been using coffee#1 everytime we visit family in Paignton. Good coffee, great hot chocolate and fantastic freshly squeezed juices. A very eclectic collection of tables and chairs complements the decor. Staff are really helpful. Oh, and the food is really nice as well. I just wish they would extend into the east Midlands where we live so I could frequent them all the time!

I've been going here since they opened. The coffee is great and they have a great selection of paninis and cakes. The staff are friendly and it's the sort of place you can hang out with your friends for a few hours while having a catch up.

Spent a couple of hours browsing Paignton shops busy doing nothing I popped in here for a coffee and sandwich all really acceptable The salad was dressed which always fills my heart with joy as a lot of places don't!!!

I came here around 2pm on Friday 26th August. I've been here a couple of times before, but the standard of service I received today was shocking. There were about 7 customers in the whole building so not busy at all. I sat down with my younger sister asking what she would like, she told me that costa do these nice 'peach lemonade drinks' and was wondering if they did something similar. I approached the counter and asked the lady if they sold something similar to costa's drink and she replied 'no, what you see on the board is what you get'. There was no light hearted joke behind it, she just had a face like a car had smashed into a brick wall. It's as if she was offended because I used the word 'costa'. I only wanted to know if they had a similar drink because my sister enquired, I usually like what coffee #1 have to offer. The manager then looked at me and smiled as if to say sorry about her and then said that they can try to do something around that. At which point i had already waited long enough whilst the two discussed what they might be able to do, but I felt as if it would have been to much of a problem for them to do something nice for a customer.

Situated in pedestrianised Victoria St. it was pleasing to find a good coffee shop amongst the usual, mundane tourist cafes. The staff were a little engrossed in their own conversation to start with but quickly took my order, cleaned the table and the service was efficient. There was good range of coffees on offer and I ordered a Costa Rican filter coffee which was very good value - milk was separately served, hot or cold - and the coffee was really good. It was also good to see complimentary cold water available in glass bottles, a very good range of cakes and .......book-lined shelves!!

Great little coffee shop with a rustic feel, created a professional working environment but was comfortable for anyone wanting a nice coffee just a few minutes from the sea. Coffee and cake were both really nice.

We stopped here for a refreshing cold smoothie during a hot Saturday walking around Paignton. It had a lovely old feel to it and was a refreshing change from your other chain coffee shops. However, the tables weren't cleared quickly enough and it was very dark at the back of the shop.

Friendly staff and great coffee yes we know coffee is expensive but most coffee places are. Feels like I am on a small holiday when I pop in here on my own.

Refreshingly individual coffee house. Lovely tasting coffee and delicious cakes. Friendly efficient staff including the clearance of vacated tables- nothing worse than seeing cluttered tables. Well done...will recommend.

We were only in Paignton for a short time after travelling from Kent and needed a light bite for 5 people on Friday 22nd at lunchtime. We got the last long table with bench. The young man who served us was very helpful at a very busy period. We were satisfied with everything from service to food and coffee etc.

I absolutely love this place, a lovely cosy atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and the coffee is always good. They also have "specials" on the coffee menu from time to time, which I enjoy trying out. It's quite dark inside but I love that, it makes the place feel cosy

This is a over priced coffee shop which to be honest I could make my self at home with a kettle it's so standard !! Latte rubbish and normal coffee not good at all !! I will not be returning to this over priced cafe

I visited this coffee shop with my mum and niece. The staff were so friendly and lovely. They made an effort to chat to me and not just in a general way. Our drinks presented beautifully but we would have liked them slightly hotter. And they didn't have any sandwiches left at 12:30 which we thought was odd! But their cakes were lovely and fresh. The staff kept the store very clean. We will be returning to this store but might just ask for extra hot drinks next time!
