Authentic pub food but with a twist!

Love this place ..such a beautiful spot to get a bite to eat or something to drink .. with such a wholesome view it's worth paying the extra money for a nice pint . Lovely and clean inside .. friendly and helpful bar staff and the outdoor seating is quite big .. really great place to go with a group of friends . Lovely toilets nice and clean ..pool table and nice selection of alcoholic drinks. They serve madri so I'm happy 😁

An excellent place for a quick bite to eat. Wonderful views over the bay. We stopped by with a large group of people for breakfast after an early morning meeting. The food was wonderful and we'll definitely go back!

We ordered Steak pie with seasonal vegetables, mash and gravy. The pie was a puff pastry lid with a bowl of steak, mash not freshly made and seasonal veg = peas, I asked where the seasonal was to be advised its just peas, also had to ask for the gravy. Believe me offering this as seasonal vegetables is misselling at its finest. Another dish ordered was a curry, this is advertised to come with mango chutney, no chutney provided and had to ask for it. I suggest the contents of this review are improved upon. The basic standards require immediate improvement.

All drinks were warm especially the wine had to ask for ice , tried a 2nd and the same . Won’t be returning

Excellent place. Went to a wedding reception. The food and service were first class. Outdoor area is large with great views. Highly recommend it.

The drinks are reasonably priced but nobody seems to know the alcoholic content of the wine they are selling! The 'chef' needs a bit of passion in what he produces. When my wife's curry arrived the Nan bread was soggy and hadn't been toasted. My chicken dish was barely warm and came with enough chips to sink the Titanic and I had to ask for the side salad which I wanted instead of the chips!!!!!

Good place for parties and spacious outside area. Right by the seafront. I take my child for swimming lessons here. Sometimes the changing rooms are a bit dirty.

Had my son's special 30th birthday here, paid for buffet food an 50 pound deposit, staff were rude to a number of people we invited, in particular one member she will know who she is, when asking for the deposit back was told no because a party popper was pulled an it may block the hoover, alot of money was spent that day by all the guests absolutely disgusted in the place will never go again shame on you

Had the chilli burger and hands down the best burger I've ever had. Food was absolutely amazing, definitely recommend, kind staff even though they were busy with a party of about 30 people. Amazing

Great view from the garden. Our queuing system, strictly followed in all walks of life, falls down spectacularly in pubs. So bar staff needs to on their game. Two people were at the bar before me, sole barmen approached me first. I pointed him to the 2 people ahead of me. Once he'd served them, he started servers others who just rocked up after me. Definitely not 100% barmen fault (patrons should also be aware someone stood at the bar with no drink are there for a drink!), but I had spoken to the barman!

Most unpleasant experience I’ve had in Torquay. So expensive and sullen bar staff. If you’re on holiday try the bars on Belgrave road and save yourself a lot.

Not my scene, I like reggae but it didn't float my boat and drugs were free range 😅

The last snot shop, they are too stupid to take an order and count to five. Unfortunately you can't give less than one star.

Stayed in the hotel attached to Applebys but the bar served lovely food not the quickest of service when busy but that's to be expected I suppose price of food and drink very resonable clean and tidy

We went for breakfast and dinner here, I must say best breakfast we have had for a long time, everything was freshly cooked, dinner was lovely, the lasagne was mouth watering and the home made chilli was rather spicy but was tasty, very friendly staff would definitely recommend

Stayed here with my mum on 29/2/24, wished could have stayed a little longer, I've stayed here many times and am rarely disappointed, good clean rooms, lovely breakfast and evening meal, amazing views, the monstrosity across the sroad has taken much of the view away but there is a bit left to admire while you eat breakfast, friendly staff, good beer and ample parking, what's not to like :) see you again soon 😊

Really busy on weekends with lots of people out enjoying themselves and a large balcony with excellent views over the bech

Well the breakfast was plated with 'one of everything'. Heating could be an issue if you wanted to spend some hours in the hotel bedroom during the day. Found a piece of plastic on the bedroom carpet which the cleaner had missed.

Stopped by one evening and it was amazing, came back the following morning for breakfast. Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and well priced.

Came here for a 30th party... never been before.. was impressed by how big the pub was... staff all really friendly. It was very clean and the food was great for the party.. the views are amazing of the bay. I can see myself coming back in the summer to sit out on your tables outside, looking at the beautiful view.

Booked a private swim for myself daughter and grand daughter... In short it was flithy, the changing rooms, pool and etc filthy..I wouldn't even shower there was it was so bad... The ceiling was full of mould d/dirt etc the pool was dirty, the changing area was awful... Please don't book, I will never return

Popped in to watch the football and have a couple of drinks. Good for live sports, good selection of drinks. Friendly customer service 👌 Toilets have been refurbished 👍

Lovely views, great food and Very friendly staff especially Lisa and Kev who always makes us feel welcome. Our only suggestion would be to upgrade to a new coffee machine as the coffee needs improving (maybe a lavazza machine) to keep up with other establishments.

We had a really great evening at Appleby's!

We went to a Wedding Reception here and the venue was good. It had a pool table which the kids played on and plenty of space to sit. We enjoyed our evening.

I absolutely love the food here. I definitely recommend the lasagne ( in fact, I often do) never had a complaint about any of the menus. Staff are friendly and welcoming every time and the view is amazing 👏

Limited on-tap choice, the usual ubiquitous standards, but a lovely beer garden with views of the sea and the bay. Addendum: They have Camden Stout, a nicer alternative to Guinness.

One of the most beautiful terraces and vistas in Torbay! Plenty of space inside and out. Ordered steak, fish cake, pint of beer and… stupid waitress took it all away half-eaten. Apparently was too tired and lazy to ask if we’ve finished. £50 gone. So yes, staff here is quite rude and indifferent. Looks as if they’re sick and tired of their job and their customers. Maybe that’s why their food is meagre and tasteless and beer is obviously generously diluted with water. Never again! But view is lovely. Could’ve been a very nice restaurant, not this ugly overpriced canteen.

Appleby's is a bar attached to the hotel I was staying in. My experience there was mixed. I went there for my evening meal. Firstly, there were no hand pulled beers. Not a huge problem, but the choice would have been nice. I ordered the Katsu curry from the menu. It was very ordinary, to say the least. Next morning, I went in for breakfast and ordered a bacon and egg sandwich. It was excellent. Perfectly cooked and served on fresh, good quality bread. So, a game of two halves.

When I met some friends there 2weeks ago went to get a drink the women behind the bar looked right through me & walked away & stared chatting to another bar person & when I when I walked around the bar to try & get a drink she just said yes! I did get my drink in the end but Terrible service!! I Won't be going back.

Torquay suffers from a lack of decent bars. Appleby's has no hand pulled beers. I ordered the Katsu Curry, which consisted of two small pieces of fried chicken, rice, and peas with a sweet sauce: very basic.

Nobody at the bar for 10/15 minutes, then two rude staff members refused my drink order and demanded card payment, so I walked out to spend my money somewhere else.

Although not listed in an Internet search for gluten free eateries I can highly recommend Applebys and their lovely staff. I called in on spec on my way to the seafront and asked if a GF breakfast was available. It certainly was and what a breakfast. GF sausage wasn't available but I was offered an extra piece of bacon. I had so much perfectly cooked and yummy bacon it was coming out of me earroles. Various options for your eggs, I asked for scrambled which again came out perfectly cooked - at least 2. Baked beans (I do love beans on a full English), hash brown, tomato, mushroom all served on an oval plate. Oh, and two pieces of fresh gluten free toast and butter too. Normally I would only eat a third of this amount but it was so delicious I didn't want to waste it even if I was stuffed. Happily stuffed. I plan to pop in tomorrow morning before catching my train back home.

This place has a terrace where you can have your drinks and food al fresco. Great service by the staff, amazing atmosphere and the food looks nice. The view is spectacular

Went here for brunch with young children and grandparents. Very sunny day, looked like a perfect spot with the terrace over looking the bay. However, quality of food was substandard - pancakes were awful and from a packet (how hard is it to make real pancakes??), orange juice was very much from concentrate, sausages were cheap Richmond equivalents. Music was really loud and inappropriate for the setting and time of day. Coffees took about 40mins and arrived AFTER the food, despite the place being relatively empty. Maybe a lack of staff and/or management that are actually considering the customer experience. Wouldn’t normally leave a review like this but it was so disappointing I felt compelled to.

Appleby's is the name of the restaurant at the Heritage Hotel in Torquay. Good overall service and quality.

This bar was brilliant as I was in Torquay on holiday and I visited everyday as it was very friendly staff and overlooking the sea and a great terraced area to sit in the sun I will miss this bar and would return to Torquay to visit applebys again

We ordered our breakfasts at 09:45 along with our tea and coffee. At the time of ordering there was just us and one other family, as more people came we noticed they were being served before us so after waiting 45 mins hubby went in to check on our order, then the waitress came out and said the chef didn’t get the order and won’t cook until he has it. At this point I really didn’t care what the reason was and we finally got our breakfasts at 10:50, we asked for brown bread and received one white and one brown but by this point I really could not be bothered, and all this time no offers of a hot drink on the house or anything, not a good first time experience, would not like to be there when they are busy

My daughter had a swimming party this morning at the heritage hotel and we went for lunch after at Applebys. All the staff were so lovely and helpful 😊 we all had a great time and the food was great too. Thank you all! 😊

Easter Day breakfast for us and our dog. Breakfast could have been a bit warmer as it went cold very soon after being delivered to our table but all was tasty. Thank you for allowing me to swap beans and tomato for a piece of black pudding. Tea was perfect amount allowing 2 cup fulls out of the teapot. Dog enjoyed his sausage too

Popped in here for a drink with a friend in the evening & found that it was empty. No wonder at £5.20 a pint of beer. We won't be coming back here again!
