Always great food… but tonight the sausage and chips were fantastic… batter great, chips crispy and crunchy… just as I like them! Thank you 🙏

Made the mistake of going back and getting just chips, 3 large portions, very poor value for money, just filled the tray and no more, also did not taste fresh, more like they had been lying around for a couple of hours. Large cod very disappointing, not very hot and a bit lacking in batter, also chips didn't taste very fresh, these were not very hot either, portion size was much smaller than our last few visits. We have visited Saltash 4 times in the last year and have been looking forward to this all week, big let down, won't be having it again.

Concerned about hygiene. Witnessed older lady assistant with glasses scratch her head and touch her face several times and not once did she wash her hands after doing so.

Brought the fish home it was absolutely disgusting. It looked like it had been cooked two or three times. The batter was greasy and awful and inside the fish was dried up. I did phone and complain and they said bring it back and we will do you another one nothing to do with the fact I already paid for it and had to make the journey twice to this chip shop. I feel they are complacent and should up their game if they want to charge these prices and want people to visit and looking at the reviews that certainly reflects how bad they have become I for one won’t be going again unless they drastically improve.

Spent nearly £50 on fish & chips for 4 for a special treat. Unfortunately the taste of the oil was awful and ruined what could have been good fish & chips. The large cod was chunky but the taste of old rancid oil completely ruined the meal. Threw most of it away and sorry to say won't come back. Please look at your oil / methods because something is not right. Old oil or not up to temp or possibly frying something in there that is tainting the taste. Very unpleasant. Will be going over the bridge next time. Sorry.

Takeaway from here is more expensive than dine in pub. Three cod and medium chips and three tiny curry sauce pots……£39.75. Said they put the prices up to stay open, well they have lost me, rather go out for table service for similar price.

Have been here a few times and always been 100% satisfied. Today, both pieces of cod tasted old, looked a little grey and one piece the centre was hard and rubbery, no flakes. Disappointed. New chef? Frozen fish? Won't go again until I see better reviews.

This is the second piece of cod that is awful. First undercooked and the second this evening is chewy ! It’s like eating rubber !! Last time I will be purchasing there overpriced minuscule fish and chips ..

Not sure what's happening but would rather find an alternative at the moment, even if it means crossing the bridge.

Our family Friday tradition. Always busy for a good reason, best fish and chips for miles around. Only wish the curry sauce and mushy peas portions were bigger.

Been coming here for years when they used to have a restaurant and seating area. The last few times the cod has been dry and the haddock still had the skin on!. The menu options have also reduced, I used to love the scampi.

Visited two weeks following. 1st week I sat and witnessed 6 customers who arrived after me, receive their orders and left. I approached the counter and asked if I had been forgotten. Oh yes sorry, they forgot to cook your cod bites. Second visit seemed the staff were a bit fraught. Fryer lady complaining accross fryers to serving staff about something with ticket orders. Another had words about leaving cheese out.... so all was not harmonious. I ordered and again witnessed 5 customers who arrived after me were served and gone while i sat waiting. I reluctantly approached the counter and asked if i had been forgotten again. "No but you ordered small fish and we were waiting for them to cook. They don't cook instantly! " I was rather taken aback with her aggressive manner, and very surprised that small cod take longer to cook than large cod, scampi or half a chicken! I was waiting for 15 minutes. As others have stated, the portion sizes do vary as does the greasiness of them. If there was another f&c shop nearby, I would go there.

The food especially the fish would have been delicious but it was so badly wrapped for takeaway, it was actually sandwiched in a pile of chips what would have been tasty crispy batter , was in fact a soggy mess. Shame cos it tasted very nice.

I have been getting fish and chips from here since before covid as my Mother loves them and used to meet her friend there. So after our usual visit I was surprised to feel sick during the night after eating them and then I had stomach cramps for the next 2 days. My mother and husband were fine. I am sure the meal that made me ill was from Codfathers so I shall be getting a kebab next door for myself when my mother insists on fish and chips again.

Got there 19:49. Took 6 minutes to get served only to be told there was no fish or chips. And they weren’t going to cook any as they shut at 20:00. Bad customer service to be honest and I’ve never heard of a fish and chip closing at 20:00 considering it’s the only fish and chip shop in Fore Street. Can’t rate the food down as their fish does taste lovely.

I've always said the South East has better fish and chips than the South West...until now, Codfathers in Saltash were very impressive with their service, the clean, organised, well lit takeaway restaurant and then the Fish and Chips were spot on. No soggy batter, a large that was actually a large and chips that were 'just right'.

First class cod and chips. Fresh with light, crispy batter. Worth the long journey.

I ordered chips and some cod bites. I woke up in the middle of the night and ended up vomiting in the bathroom sink. I threw up chunks of cod bites that I had ordered. The food must have been undercooked. The only reason I am giving two stars is because the shop itself was clean and decorative. Will not be going back here again sadly.

Nice enough food and I will keep using Codfarthers but my order is often misheard at the till and I’ve had occasional missing parts of the order, like cans of drink.

Portion sizes for chips is bad, 10p for a carrier bag, do me a favour. I live in Saltash and now use fransines it's fantastic, and even with the bridge toll charge it's cheaper. No more soggy oily fish and stingy chip portions.

Really great chips. I'm not a massive fan of chip in general but the chips here are really good.

We live in Millbrook which takes approximately 20 minutes to get to Saltash. On a recent visit to the town (arrived 2.40pm) wedecided to have a fish and chip lunch at the Codfather. To our dismay they didn't open until 4.30 so we decided to wait around until they opened. After exhausting all the "retail browsing" we still had 30 minutes to wait but oh was that wait worth it. The cod was tasty and chunky, the batter stayed crispy to the last bite and the chips were just as good. The staff were cheerful and efficient.

Really disappointed with the meal from Codfathers. The fish was 'rubbery' so not fresh at all. Noticed other recent poor reviews. New cook/management? Not sure, but quality has taken a dip.

We called in on the way home from an afternoon drink and cakes party. Still felt hungry but no energy to go on to a full blown meal anywhere. Called in here just for chips. Clinical feel. Reasonably cooked but the small portion was minuscule and the large hardly big enough to satisfy the appetite.

Got larger chip and jumbo sausage. Chips seemed to recooked, more like a medium portion of chips I got than large. Would not go there again. Avoid for sure

Found the chips completely bland, Absolutely no favour at all, Didn’t put any salt and vinegar on like asked, Large chips were extremely small and didn’t like the battered sausage The fish was loverly in all fairness but over all disappointing and not worth the money I paid for it I wanted their food for months & months we ended up giving it to the dogs, Oh well.

Medium chips portion was the size of a child’s portion? £7.75 for a large cod on its own that was soggy. Asked for salt and vinegar and i didn’t taste either

Visited in June 2022 I came over from Canada to visit family in Saltash and had dinner one night from Codfathers. Ordered two Sausage and Chips and I will admit, it was very nice. Definitely will be back again.

Sorry to say yesterday the chips were awful,it was all the scrappy bits,hard,and not many normal chips.Ive been promising my elderly mum chips and telling her how good they are.Totally disappointing ,these scrappy hard bits should be removed on every fresh batch.Please take the criticism as actual fact and learn and remove these hard unpleasant bits of potato. I will be back,and I will be watching at the counter to make sure the chips are acceptable.If not I will be voicing my disappointment. It's such a shame as normally your food is really good,your staff are lovely,prices are spot on.

Still as good as ever. Lovely white flakey cod in crispy light batter, the medium size is huge. Generous portions of chips. Friendly efficient service, good value for money (fish is not cheap since Brexit). As good a chippy as you can find, and we're lucky to have Codfathers in Saltash. Recommended.

When they first opened after lockdown they were lovely. Gone downhill since, price gone up but size of fish gone down. Very thin piece of fish and loads of batter.

The fishcakes were absolutely amazing, probably the best I've ever had, and a bargain at £1.50 each. The lady with long brown hair serving had brilliant customer service, and was polite, friendly and clear. The chips tasted very oily to me, but worth it for the fishcake!

Whenever we're in Saltash at teatime on our way home from football we'll pop in and get our tea, either fish and chips or sausage and chips. Always good and not long to wait. Staff are friendly and prices reasonable.

Been going here for years but recently have been a bit disappointed. The last 3 times our order has been wrong and we tried it again on saturday and although our order was correct, it was the worst we have ever had from there, so much salt on it, you couldnt taste anything. We tried knocking some of the salt off but it had soaked through everything and it was just awful. It's a shame because it used to be faultless. I dont know if they have different staff there but something has changed and it's not for the better.

Simply the best place to get a takeaway in all of saltash. Beautiful chips, curry sauce. Staff are amazing. Everything so yummy. I’m vegetarian and they have a veggie sausage but it’s a bean one. It would be awesome if they had quorn or meat substitute sausages instead of the bean ones. Overall splendid the best in Saltash.

This was an early evening Monday, open at 1630hrs and a fish and chips takeaway was in order.Pleasant, well mannered young staff(a novelty these days), very efficient service, we waited inside on the designated chair numbered and took our varied sized cod and chips, curry pots and a large battered sausage.Delicious food all round, the fish was exceptional, very good value for money.
