Thank you to the team at The Coach for making our little boy's birthday so special tonight :) What do you do when your 11 year old foodie asks for a Michelin star meal as his birthday present? Book The Coach! The team went absolutely above and beyond to make him feel special with so many little extras, gestures and even a little tour of the kitchen - so much more than we expected! The food itself was absolutely wonderful, it was hard to pick a favourite but the hispi cabbage and the onion soup were big suprise hits! Also the chips were literally the best chips I've ever tried in my life. We had 2 plates each and then all just shared which is the best way to get to try lots of different things and, doing it that way, we felt perfectly full despite the dishes being quite small. But it really is the people here that make the experience, every single team member was warm, friendly and really made our evening. This place is an absolute gem - a Michelin star experience that isn't stuffy like some, welcoming to children and fantastic value. We'll definitely be back again in the future and this will be something the birthday boy remembers and talks about for a long long time....

Amazing as always, very tasty dishes and comfortable atmosphere. My only negative would be the staff are a little eager for your order, we were asked about four times within 10 minutes which didn't give us much time to decide.

Style over substance. Trading on its name. Apart from Darren, the snooty and arrogant ‘manager’ (who didn’t so much ‘greet’ guests as bark at them in a robotic manner as he explained a rather silly menu), the rest of the staff were lovely and deserve better leadership. All seemed a bit embarrassed about a menu that is presented as a kind of tapas-style sharing offer but how do you share a miniature burger that is near impossible to eat in the first place ? Tasted fine but so it should do for the fortune each tiny plate of food costs. The moules marinere were actually a small ramekin filled with 8 pre-shelled moules in a creamy sauce with a single miniature loaf 3 inches long. Share that between two of you and that is one soup-spoon each with a chunk of bread and it’s all gone along with the thick-end of £20 ! Wine list was horrible value with a £6-£10 Riesling reselling at £70. It was busy on a Friday night and they were turning walk-ins away only to see them return later and secure a table anyway. Not sure why they bothered as there are much better options that represent far better VFM and you would avoid the delightful Darren who is a one-man business buster.

We went on a very busy Friday night. We had been planning to thrip for 11 months but could only book on the day, and as there was just two of us we opted for a seat at the bar. The first unexpected thing was how small the available area is, no wider than a railway carriage. We were seated in a booth between a blaring hot radiator and the kitchen, and the heat combined with the constant traffic squeezing past us was fairly stressful. If we were to go back we'd definitely opt for a table to have some breathing space. In terms of food, the vegetarian options are very limited. They handle meat and fish beautifully but vegans and vegetarians have a very limited choice, and it makes sharing the small plates pretty difficult. Everything is covered in parmesan (not veggie) and the only option for a salad dressing is the caesar dressing which includes anchovies. They're not joking when they say 'small plates' but everything we had was very rich and highly seasoned, so the portion sizes were about right. For ref my husband had the chicken Kyiv & the cottage pie, I had the beetroot salad and we shared a green salad, mushroom rice dish and grilled cabbage. They also had televisions everywhere - thankfully on mute - but with sport showing constantly. For us this was a one-off night out to celebrate a big birthday. It's a super expensive restaurant and we'd travelled some distance in order to eat here, so it was a little disappointing in terms of atmosphere and food. However, the staff were exceptional. They were rushed off their feet, bright red from the heat and moving at lightning speed, but always with a smile and a valiant attempt at finding ways to accommodate this annoying vegetarian. Huge thanks to all of them.

This is an absolute must if you enjoy utterly gorgeous food. We were a table of 4 girlfriends and tried almost everything on the menu. In fact we did try all the desserts! The pub is small and cosy and the food is divine. Mussels to die for..... I can still taste them now, 2 days later. The service we had was outstanding too. A little gem in Marlow. The only very tiny downside is that you have to book at 8am if you want a table that day. Definitely worth setting an alarm for though.

Absolutely amazing Sunday lunch. Went online at 9am and booked a table for 2.30 (which was ready early!). Food was delicious as ever - Caesar salad, onion and cider soup, rotisserie beef and loin of pork with the hispi cabbage and roast potatoes. Topped off with banana custard and the best espresso…perfect 👍🏻

Excellent lunch. Popped in on impulse and got a Noon reservation. Place was full by 12.15. I had the set lunch: Leek and Potato Soup was Amazing! The Beef Shin 'pie' was very rich and deep, great quality. Wife had a la carte Onion and Cider soup (with cheese scone and Ham Hock Butter) which was also like velvet -'beautiful' and then the Goats Cheese salad -'amazing'. Coming from London it was so nice to be in a quality place where people wore smart casual clothes. (A DRESS CODE question: My Son tells me that Central London Set Lunches are now more relaxed and not everyone wears Suits. Comment please!

Let's get one thing clear from the start... The food here is utterly devine. The onion and cider soup is to die for, and I could probably eat the cheese scones that come with it every day for the rest of my life and still not have had enough. Simply gorgeous. The chargrilled cabbage is amazing... But the beef shin 'cottage pie' makes everything seem pedestrian - I could still taste it when I got home. The depth of flavour is just extraordinary. Possibly one of the nicest things I have ever had. Don't worry about the 'small plates' being too little. I had three and didn't need a pudding. Love the fact that service charge is included. You can get really caught out sometimes when they expect you to pay a premium, when you haven't had a premium meal. My only minor problem is the booking process. You can only book on the day for that day. The online facility wasn't working, and I was held on the phone for far too long having called at exactly 9am. The restaurant wasn't even half full, but I suppose it was a wet Thursday evening. The service was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and chatty, and both the food and drink appeared just when we wanted it. £142 for a memorable dinner for two may seem expensive, but it feels like dinner in a nice pub with a bottle of wine always costs around £50-£60 a head... And you just don't get the same exceptional quality as we had the other night. Will definitely visit again.

Dinner was a Mother's day present for my wife. We had a select of 8 dishes which we shared and all which were of the highest standard. This was fine dining indeed and the waiting staff were so attentive and friendly. I cannot recommend this highly enough and whilst at the top end of cost it was certainly good value and a thoroughly pleasing experience.

What a disappointment. Whilst admittedly only having the set lunch menu, which at £22 for three courses, was seemingly a good prospect for a Kerridge, one Michelin star establishment, other than the 'onion and cider soup', which was very tasty, the main course 'The Coach fish pot pie' was pretty devoid of fish (seemingly substituted by peas), and lacked substance and flavour, with dessert, banoffee pie, making up a little for the main. To earn and retain a Michelin rating, in my view you need consistency of quality across your full menu range, be it the less expensive set lunch menu or the a la carte offerings, which was not the case at The Coach. Frankly, I have eaten at several one Michelin star establishments and the quality of the dishes offered and overall experience varies so very much, that I do question Michelin's criteria for and consistency in awarding the coveted star. If you want to sample what I think is one of the best, then head into London and the dining room at The Ritz, which sets the one Michelin star bar at the right level in my view.

We ate here as part of a Hand and Flowers deal. It has 1 star and the food and service probably just about deserves that (although Kerridges in London is better for both but has no stars!). We were able to select any 8 dishes to share, and they come ‘as and when they are ready’. We chose 6 savoury and a side plus cheese as dessert. The first 5 dishes were great - although some were hard to share (soup and a burger), but by the time 6 and 7 arrived we couldn’t eat any more. The staff are friendly and we did not feel rushed (the football was on, so we took our time over cheese and stayed to the end of the first half, even though our table was only until 8:15).

Absolutely loved the idea of ordering smaller dishes, my husband and I chose eight in total of meat and non meat dishes,(as we don't really do dessets). The food was outstanding especially the mushroom risotto which tasted of mushrooms and very moorish. We did wonder if their would be enough food but we needn't of worried as we were quite full by the end of the meal. Staff very friendly and definitely worth a visit.

Appalling booking system and extremely unsympathetic telephone booking staff. I followed instructions to the lettter and got nowhere from 07.50 onwards using on line and telephone reservations conflicts. Pathetic customer relations. If you are wanting to go out for family Sunday lunch you really don’t want to wait until the same morning before you can book as if you are unsuccessful all the other decent options elsewhere are fully booked. We have wanted to try The Coach ever since we ate at the Hand & Flowers in 2021. We found the booking system slightly confusing, but got there in the end. We managed to get seated at the bar for an 18:15 booking with a good view of the kitchen which was very interesting. We received a warm greeting and the young lad behind the bar explained how everything worked. Small plates, came when they were ready etc. We had cocktails to start followed by a very nice bottle of Rioja. We chose the cod, hispi cabbage, pork, chips and duck liver parfait. For desert we had the choux bun and jam roly-poly. Each plate was delicious. We had expected to be on a time limit (not unusual) however we didn't leave until 21:15. All in all we had a fantastic night and would not hesitate to go back.

Firstly, if you dine at The Coach in the next few months you will notice at the bottom of the menu is a mention that Head Chef Sarah is running the London Marathon to raise money for the British Heart Foundation. If you can afford to eat at The Coach, please consider making a donation to Sarah. It's such a worthy cause. On to my review We were staying on the Gastronomic Getaway package of the Hand and Flowers which includes an eight plate dinner at The Coach. We arrived on a wet and windy night and were greeted by the very charming and helpful Ollie who showed us to our table and talked us through the menu and concept of the dinner. He let me try a wine before ordering another bottle which I had had before and prefered. We ordered three dishes off the starters, three off the main course and two puddings. The food was absolutely superb. The mushroom risotto (which contains no rice) was a tour de force. Lucy, a lovely lady is the manager and runs a very tight ship. She is very efficient and a real asset to The Coach. She told us about The Shed and gave us details of private dining. The Hand and Flowers need a Lucy on the breakfast shift (see my H&F review) After we had finished eating chef Sarah came to talk to us, thanked us for our donation and we told her what a fabulous night we had had. I actually prefered my meal at The Coach to the Hand and Flowers (my husband thinks otherwise) but we both agreed, both meals were two of the best meals we have had and both restaurants are fully deserving of their Michelin Starts. We will be back.

This restaurant is a huge disappointment. The sharing plates are small - £7.50 for 3 spears of Broccoli which we purchased to supplement the tiny portions. Each dish is expensive and they recommended 3 per person. One dish alone was £26. Although it tasted lovely we left hungry and disappointed. No more to be said really.

Decent enough venue and wait staff (although maths not a strong point as they overcharged us £50 (later refunded)). Food comes out “when it’s ready” which is frankly weird as we were a group of 4 people so didn’t end up eating together - there is a reason why traditional restaurants serve starters and then mains together…… Overpriced for quite good food (but nothing to write home about) - we won’t be going back.

Have eaten several times at The Coach and it has gradually got better albeit starting from a low-ish base. I have in truth enjoyed each visit to The Coach which is an improvement on its overpriced (slightly) bigger sister, The Hand & Flowers, just up the road. The menu and ordering is a bit tortuous as you cannot see everything on one page. The dishes are also rather hit and miss and you do end up over ordering because portions are tapas-sized albeit not quite tapas priced. But overall the fare is quite tasty and sufficiently original for a star - unlike H&F. The main negative for me is how cramped the place is and how it triggers mild claustrophobia until you are fully inserted into your seat. Think sardines. I do think they have perhaps greedily jammed in too many tables for the 500sq ft +/- of available space and need to rethink that a bit. The place seems busy enough to afford it. Overall I would score a “fair” rating.

With a Michelin Star, we expected not only fantastic food but fantastic service, and while the food we had was good, our view has been tainted by the overall experience and service we received. We felt a little unwelcome and we were rushed. We were sat on a very small squeezed table, right at the back round the corner. We had too many people serving us, interrupting us mid dish to take away plates or glasses, and interrupting eachother where we sensed some tension between the team. We were given 10 minutes notice to leave our table with quite a bit of drink left, they could have offered us a seat somewhere else to finish our drinks. We paid £200 and would have rather spent this money somewhere else for a better overall experience, we don’t think we will be back again.

Spent a very enjoyable evening in a relaxed atmosphere with excellent food, excellent wine and friendly staff. - what more can you want. Loved the little twists on some of the dishes such as Mushroom Risotto made without rice, Mussels (out of their shells) in a rich stout sauce. Also a decent selection of wines by the glass which is appreciated by those driving or wanting to try ta selection of wines. I was slightly surprised though by the 'small sharing plate' concept. To me at least most dishes seemed very definitely 'starters' or 'main courses' and no more designed for sharing than any other restaurant. That though doesn't distract from the venue and I'll definitely be back,

My second visit to Marlow and coincidentally my second visit to The Coach. Having enjoyed lunch here a few years back with a friend of mine I decided that it was high on the list of Birthday treats for my partner. At The Coach you will find a selection of “small plate” dishes: fine British cuisine with a twist served in a tapas style and a fantastic list of wines to accompany- the Moroccan style quail was to die for! This Michelin star pub only opens its bookings diary in the day so you have to be quick to get in - aware of this I was on the ball as soon as bookings were available and managed to get a table at a time that suited. The atmosphere was incredible and the service friendly whilst not intrusive. The waitress who looked after us for the majority of the evening usually works breakfast so she needed some extra guidance however she was professional throughout. The price tag for this amazing experience was almost as palatable as the food and a generous tip for the staff was well earned. The Coach is a must visit when in Marlow - even worth going to Marlow just to visit The Coach.

The opportunity to visit this establishment has been a long time coming. It's a pleasure to report that the wait was well worth it! The staff are both charming and efficient and the food is excellent without being overpriced or pretentious. Unusually, I chose the burger: a tower of flavours and my guest and I shared a bowl of their signature chips. Hot, crispy whilst fluffy inside - just delicious although expensive. If I was to be extremely picky, the sun was shining so the large windows to the front of the building were wide open. West Street is extremely busy and the noise of constant heavy traffic was distracting and, at times, made conversation difficult. Well done to all at the Coach - a perfect lunch.

Visited on a busy Friday night 11th August, service was initially good albeit quite rushed ( trying to get through the covers I guess) was advised by the waitress to order 3 courses each, which we did. TBH I wasn't going to bother to write this review but after reading so many negative comments I thought I should back up some of the unhappy customers who have spent their hard earned cash and would have expected some dishes that matched the price tag. Have to say the rotisserie beef, two very small slices of beef, with a finger nail of cauliflower cheese priced at £32 was beyond ridiculous, very chewy. I left half (one whole 1mm slice) £16 worth, complained and had no response or apology. TBF a couple of the dishes were tasty but overall a poor experience, super expensive, guests are crushed into small corners to eat, staff wont leave you alone and just wanted to get you out the door... works for me wont be going back, you simply can't brag a Michelin star when churning out food of this standard.

Lovely restaurant, quite spenny. Good, attentive service. Food looked fabulous but sadly on this occasion wow, salt, so much salt and I love salt. Shame, lost enthusiasm for each dish as the over-salting remained consistent. Unfortunately not much can be done with too much salt,...

We picked this place at random and were coming from different places to meet here. The food was great and a good selection. The service was quite slow though... The people serving were a bit distracted by their phones. The table was a bit cramped but the people next to us moved their table for us so we had a little more room. The table was incredibly wobbly but was fixed with a load of serviettes. The atmosphere was nice. Just a warning if you are traveling by car though, the parking on the surrounding roads is only 1 hour and the pub doesn't have its own car park. Unlike us, I recommend planning your parking!

Once shown to our table it was obvious the place wasn’t cleaned properly. My feet were sticking to tenge floor, the table wasn’t clean and neither were the surrounding ledges. I ordered a bacon and cheese burger, which, when it arrived, was small and the burger was like eating a burnt brick, it must have been cooked for hours. I was so disgusted that I asked the waiter to take it away and that I didn’t want a replacement. I am 60 years old and this is the first time I have ever returned a meal. My husband refused to pay for the meal although the waiter did try to charge us for half of it, even tough I had had about one mouthful. Needless to say we will never visit this establishment again.

Burghers cafe area is beginning to look a little tired. The food is nice, and we will continue to visit regularly, however the decor is in need of some serious TLC. The couch seats are very badly worn and its a bit drab.
