The service was good but the food was terrible; tiny baked potato with a tiny amount of the most finely grated cheese and curled up, dried out salad and a congealed coleslaw which clearly was not fresh. I made the mistake of dining here again after a similarly poor experience; the portions are tiny and the prices are exorbitant. I will not return again. there are far better places to eat close by.

Tea and coffee good , the scones also very good. Was not impressed with the 'sandwiches' made with pretzel rolls - too much stodgy bread for not much filling and messy to eat. Also the 'sausage roll' had a stuffing like filling, couldn't find the sausage meat and pastry not cooked enough?. Not pleasant taste. Shame as we usually enjoy NT cafes and come off motorways to purposely eat there. Staff very pleasant but busy.

Truly shocking product. The kids serving a clearly oblivious as to the poor ingredients and over priced garbage. Presentation too is dreadful. I had a Tuna and sweet corn sandwich, which arrived on a day old cob. Hartley and tuna or sweet corn. The coffee had less than one shot and was as weak as water. Another perfect example of ripping off older customers who can afford it. AVOID eating inside Clumber Park and take your own. Truly one of the worst eating experiences in a good while.

Chap behind the counter was on point and that’s the only plus. I guess the cook must be on a very tight budget . Or on holiday. Or had had their taste buds removed. I use the word cook as there is definitely no chef here. I am at a loss how leek and potato soup , which looked quite nice in the bowl, can be devoid of any flavour whatsoever . No taste , no seasoning, nothing . Like warm greenish slop. Cheesy wedges… Been in the microwave that long the cheese was like molten plastic , had to use a spoon to chisel it off the bowl. Simple stuff , I don’t know how you can ruin it ??? If you are visiting here I would recommend sticking to the tea and coffee .

School aged children taking food orders, food cold when it arrived. Wrong food delivered despite confirming the order over the counter at the till. Ordered a gluten free roll as a side order and the the toast was replace with this, despite confirming I would get toast with the breakfast. Lots of excuses re the confusion. I said there must be 7-8 people involved from the time of the order. I met 5 staff members who were all apparently involved in my breakfast. I explained that I was not surprised at the chaos. The toast did not come so I went back to the till to be told that someone would chase it up, again another 7-8 people to organised a slice of cold toast and butter. £15.05 for a breakfast two drinks and a Gluten free roll on the side. This is an example of how not to run an expensive cafe.

Our food took over half an hour to arrive, we had ordered a filled roll, 2 soups and one pasty, nothing which should have taken long to arrive. The food was put on the very edge of the table. With a thud. The hot filled roll was listed as pulled pork with slaw. It was a lot closer to coleslaw with a bread roll, and a hint of pork cubes in a bbq sauce. All the slaw and no other substance. And COLD. The only thing that was worse was the soup. ‘Roasted red pepper’ according to the board inside. Other than being red there was no suggestion of pepper in taste or consistency. It basically tasted of white ground pepper. And not fresh ground pepper. There was a hint of root vegetable and a bizarre texture akin to something thickened with ?flour. I seriously suspect it was made by someone using a packet mix or the cheapest tinned soup ever. If that wax made by a trained chef it is worrying, plus it was again, served Luke warm. My final gripe was that each can of drink cost £2.25. I realise there needs to be a markup on such items but this seems unreasonable when no glass or ice was offered. And you have to them clear your own table too. The pasty was good! But at £40ish pounds for four of us to receive, at best, prison level food, I feel conned. Especially when the providers have such a monopoly on the catering provisions within the estate. Go to the best deli, supermarket or cafe on route and buy yourself a yummy picnic, you won’t regret it.

We visited Central Bark, purely down to being a dog friendly cafe. I don't know whether it's just me but, I expected a bit more... plenty of dog bowls, seating and some preoacked treats but personally, A simple menu for the dogs would be a great edition maybe? Also the cafe assistant to be a little friendlier. I ordered a couple of drinks, one with oat milk, was asked as an allergy but stated it's a preference... he then rolled his eyes at me and said "right...." and carried on to charge me. I'm not sure what we were expecting but did want something a little less, dull. I understand its dog friendly so things can age but it needs a little update and some colour. Other places manage to do it well and we were a lil disappointed here. Clumber park itself is gorgeous and we would visit the grounds again.

I have to say we had a very good experience here on an early Saturday afternoon. Contrary to most NT cafes there was no queue for snacks and drinks and I was amazed at the large number of tables available inside. There were also outdoor tables near the entrance and a few around the front. The coffee and cake were very good and we had a very relaxing and enjoyable break here for 20 minutes or so. In the older section section of the cafe some window tables had lovely views looking towards the lake. Part of the cafe is situated in a fine old building. No complaints at all about our visit.

We visit Clumber quite often as we only live a few miles away and visit the cafe on most visits. Generally the visits are okay, nothing more however this morning it was chaos!!! It was a beautiful sunny morning and Clumber was quite busy as expected. There were lots of people waiting and getting our drinks order in was no problem however there were so many orders piling up the two members of staff on the drinks couldn’t keep up but they didn’t put a stop to the ordering so they could catch up!!!! Hence they was a large group of us in the corner of the cafe waiting. The gentleman behind me got his toasted teacake a good 5 mins before his drink therefore it went cold! The lady behind him got her drinks before him and obviously before me! You can see how this was going!!!! Chaos. Word to the wise on a busy day don’t bother. Plus my scone was stale!

This cafe is in such a lovely location and I like to go here. The problem is it’s going down hill fast! My last 3 visits have been disappointing, the game pie was fed to the dog, it was one big lump of meat covered in a thin soggy pastry for a lot of money! The scones were dry and on my visit today, the service was extremely slow and cake served on a hot plate?! It would be great if the National Trust sorted this issue as it should be a gem. We'd been to the Garden Tea House beside the Kitchen Garden once before on my husband's birthday in the summer and had a very nice Sunday roast, so as we were in the park for a walk on Sunday we thought we'd treat ourselves to a roast again in the restaurant. Quite a nice surprise to see that there was a turkey Christmas dinner on the menu and we went for it. We were asked if we'd like Yorkshire pudding and pigs in blankets and we said yes please. Dinners arrived and everything looked ok until we got to the roast potatoes which weren't the best. I had two small new pots cut in half and my other half had two bigger ones. His were inedible as they had black spots on them and one of mine was the same, I know we should have complained but the staff are so nice that we felt it wasn't their fault. The people in the kitchen should never have put them on the plate.. (see the picture) Anyway when we went to pay, the bill seemed a bit more than we thought but it wasn't until I checked the bill outside, I found we'd been charged and extra £2.50 each (marked on the bill as KIDS) which I assume was for the Yorkshire pudding and one very minuscule pig in a blanket! I'm sorry but this wasn't made clear to us and we felt a bit cheated as I''m sure we had Yorkshire pudding on our plate last time at no extra cost! Not sure we'd go again for a meal here.

My son in law booked a table for five for afternoon tea at the Garden Tea House, as a celebration for his wife’s birthday. On arrival we waited at the given place in the hallway for several minutes before we were directed upstairs and told to find a suitable table. Eventually we found a table for four and moved an additional table for two alongside-no reserved table! Eventually a waitress arrived to take our order and told us afternoon tea is not served on a Sunday unless previously booked. We pointed out we had booked, they had no record. When we told her it was for a birthday treat she agreed to sort sandwiches and cakes for us. The food arrived, proper afternoon tea on tiered plates and an apology for the mix up. The food was excellent and enjoyed by the four adults, the five year old grandson decided he would like pizza and a scone with cloudy lemonade! This arrived and he loved the pizza, best one he’d ever tasted was his opinion. Thank you to the staff who really pulled out all the stops to make the occasion memorable. We will visit again.

During a visit to Clumber Park on 27th August 2017 I thought it would be nice to treat my parents to afternoon tea at 2.30pm in the Garden Tea Room. On arrival there was a sign saying please wait to be seated. We noticed a number of empty tables but waited. We were pushed passed by one of the staff members. We were then ignored we had my 2 year old son with and he found the bell which he pressed. One of the staff came out and we asked if we could just sit down. She told us to wait and she would be back in 2 minutes. Several minutes later my son was getting board so started pressing the bell and an other member of staff came and asked if we were being servered. We said no and they said they would get someone. My son then was getting even more board having to wait so long and he started playing on the stairs. First member of staff was rude about this but stil did not take us to a seat. 3 members of staff could be heard chatting in the kitchen but no one came out to deal with us. I went round and asked if we could have a table and the first member of staff very very rude when I suggested we had waited a long time to be seated. She raised her voice saying they were very busy and she had a lot to deal with. However, it appeared that many tabels were empty and she had time to chat with her colleagues. She suggested with tried the other cafe pointing to the play centre. It was clear we were not welcome, I am unsure it it was because we had a toddler with us or if it was because I was dressed down for the weeked, wearing a metallica t'shirt. We left and will not be back. Very rude staff, if they are like this too often they will destroy what could be a thriving business. This really spoit the day for me and my family as we were too upset to enjoy the gardens.

Visited today with our 4 dogs, sat outside as didn't notice the tiny room that you could take dogs, when we did it was full of kids. But happy to sit outside. However the dogs were real thirsty, there were dog bowls, chained up to the wall, not sure why? The water in them was a health risk, thankfully none of my dogs would drink from them!We had Victoria sandwich cake which was dry and disgusting! It's time this was sorted out reading everyone's reviews!Perhaps Bassetlaw environmental health need to visit?

I have already written to the National Trust to complain about a lunch I had there where the queue was out the door, someone on the till who couldn't work it, packet soup, no butter with my hunch of bread, dirty floors and tables, such a depressing place with screaming kids . So we went last Sunday to spend the £20 voucher National Trust had given us for the previous awful meal. This time similar queue but freezing cold and then we waited so long in the queue for our drinks only 2 teas that our hot meal was ready before we sat down. It was revolting lentil stew uneatable. Still dirty floors and tables and the staff I don't know if they are students but the girl on drinks had no idea and everyone was complaining and her supervisor kept repeating the orders to her. We shan't be going back even with £20 free voucher. Clumber is such a lovely place to visit why can't they get their cafe/restaurant better?

Visited on New Years Eve and after reading the other reviews I get there point but it is very busy and therefore what do you expect. We arrived as a group of 11 and found a table in 5 mins. The menu was limited but all served quickly and the staff were doing a good job. Food was tasty and my wife commented that the egg sandwich was brilliant. I suspect they get hundreds of people each day and therefore even with twice the size cafe it would be hard to do better. I did pop back in at 2.30 and it was much quieter and was clean and tidy

I have visited this restaurant for many years as a member of the National Trust. I have to say this visit has shown how steeply the place has gone downhill. Years ago this was a lovely tearoom - these days its quite frankly filthy and the staff dont seem to want to correct this. When we arrived at the self service counter there were no trays. When we eventually found one it was very dirty. The customer in front of us complained and was told they had been busy and the girl on the counter casually asked one of her colleagues to sort the problem - she didnt. When we came to sit down the table was also dirty (as others have reported here) and I noticed the walls of the restaurant were also very dirty. We were in the restuarant for about 40 mins. I counted around 20 customers and about 5 members of staff. None of them made any effort to clean any of the tables or deal with the used trays and other peoples crockery. The tea and luke warm sausage roll were OK but the whole surroundings and staff attitude let the place down. When we left we also noticed a large pile of trays by the kitchen door,..again not dealt with and another pile of used trays by the outside eating area.It seems to me the National Trust management are not in control of the staff here and this will drive people away. I appreciate they are a charity but on the day we visited no-one was on the entrance taking admission money - so people who were not members got in for free! I wonder how much money they have now lost due to this incompetence? What a shame !

This cafe goes more downhill each time I visit :( this time we joined a very long queue, which is fine (I've worked in catering myself so I get that it gets busy!), but the staff behind the counter were moving very slowly. At one point one staff member rudely shouted in a sarcastic manner that we should join the other queue as it did the same thing, but to see the cakes you needed to be on the original till, and there is never any excuse for rudeness. As I previously said I've worked in catering recently so know my food hygiene! Unfortunately I witnessed one member of staff scratch his head and then keep serving, and another one rub his eye and do the same, this is really not on! Food wise the cakes were nice however they were not labelled and nearly all run out, it was only about 3pm. When I came to waiting for our drinks, it was a very long wait - the rest of our party had begun to wonder what had happened to us. We were missing one cup, when we asked for another one a hand just reached round and placed it on a counter quite far away with no words, we had to ask another staff member if it was ours! There were some lovely staff in the cafe, it's just a pity that it's the rude ones you remember. When my sister got her coffee she couldn't drink it and said it had a minty taste, I thought she was being silly so had a go myself and it was vile, but didn't fancy braving the counter again. The way the cafe has deteriorated makes me so sad. From my experience in catering I get the feeling that there are deeper problems then just poor quality staff, all staff can be fantastic if they're trained well

Heading for the A1 past Rufford Park thought we would call in at Clumber Park for light refreshments. Enjoyable drive on excellent roads through the park and found suitable parking near eating and gift shop facilities. Went straight to café/restaurant and not impressed with access or menu, however, decided on Jacket potato for myself, Quiche and a pot of tea for my wife. Jacket was ok but Quiche was poor and cold accompanied by 3 very small new potatoes and a bit of lettuce would have better with coleslaw the teapot was dirty on the outside . When finished we left just behind another party who simply left everything on their table, we were aware that there was a request to place pots etc on tray an place on provided trolley, could find no trolley in the building so left tray near the utensils table, it seems there was a trolley outside which we later saw a young girl really struggling to get up the step between the outside and inside eating areas. We left the building walking across front where we had sat when both going to and returning from the lake (lovely scenery). The table we had occupied and others were being reused and clearly had not been cleaned. The table tops were soiled and the edges had dried on food on them. This standard of hygiene is unacceptable and caused by the return of trays by customers. This means the tables are not being cleaned between sittings. We appreciate that National Trust must use volunteer labour hopefully they have been trained to Food Hygiene standards as they must be in any other eating establishments. My wife and I visit other National Trust sites and have no complaints but are reluctant to visit Clumber Park catering facilities again.

As a previous review said, this cafe has gone downhill, sadly. It used to serve reasonable, home style food. On this occasion, the food, even at the summer BBQ outside, look not just dry but dried-up and it had clearly been standing a very long time. We were surprised it was still on sale so we chose freshly cooked pasties and sausage rolls - both poor quality and inedible (greasy, bland and odd-looking meat in the fillings) Staff were pleasant but apparently had to keep the dried food on sale. The cappuccino were very weak and watery.

For several years now, my husband and I have visited Clumber Park and enjoyed lovely walks around the lake, and looked forward to and enjoyed a snack at the courtyard cafe, usually sitting at the tables outside. Years ago we always thought that their hot sausage rolls were "simply the best" and would look forward to going to Clumber and enjoying a hot sausage roll afterwards, with a delicious sandwich and a nice cup of tea. However, a few months ago when we bought the sausage rolls there we discovered, to our dismay, that they were different, and just "bland". this was very disappointing. Also the sandwiches we bought were just bland and again, not delicious like they used to be. Also, while we were waiting in the queue to be served, a customer brought back two orders of scones, saying that they were too dry and hard to eat. The man at the till let the kitchen staff know and the customer was refunded. A few weeks ago we visited Clumber Park again for another lovely walk as usual, with our friends, and we went to the cafe for a meal afterwards. We were surprised that a similar incident happened again while we were in the queue. Someone was bringing back their jacket potatoes, saying they were cold and too dry to eat. this time I didn't notice any apology or any refund. We decided not to choose a jacket potato. My husband and I chose sausage and mash, our friends chose a pasty and a salad. As the weather was cool that day this time we sat inside. Our sausage and mash meals were brought to us first, and our friends told us to start eating them as there was no sign of their meals following behind. So we started our meals but we noticed that they weren't really hot enough. My husband wanted to complain but we didn't want to make a fuss so we just ate them as we were really hungry. Our friend who had ordered the pasty, his pasty arrived next which looked very unappetising - hardly any meat in it. He said it was "ok" and proceeded to eat it. It then seemed a long time until our friend's salad arrived and we wondered why it should take such a long time to prepare a salad and we felt uncomfortable the three of us had about finished our meals by the time her salad arrived. When her salad did arrive it looked very unappetising and not like a salad at all! My friend ate it and said it was "just ok" but I feel we all didn't really want to complain and make a fuss. However, since then, it has put us off eating in the cafe again, and because of tat it has put us off going to Clumber Park as we used to. We said we could take a picnic next time, but it's a shame as we used to really enjoy our snacks and meals in this courtyard cafe. I can only hope that it changes ownership soon and improves again so that we can return.

We've been here many times and the cafe was a lifesaver this time after a long bike ride in good weather. There's a good outdoor eating area too, which is rightly popular with everyone. For a National Trust place though, with a monopoly on food catering in the middle of Clumber Park, they really should have a wider range of sandwiches etc on offer, especially on a busy weekday towards the end of the school holidays: they'd nearly run out by 1.00pm, which seems like poor planning. And sadly the tables outside were all covered with used plates and wrappers etc. Better to ask customers to clear the tables themselves, and provide more bins in prominent places? - it'd look much more appealing. Having said all that, this is a great spot and the food they do have is fresh and good quality, and the staff are friendly and helpful. And Clumber Park is a great place to visit, at any time of year. There's also a good range of plants on sale of course, walking and cycling trails, bike hire, and just loads of space just to hang out and enjoy being in a beautiful area. Not to be missed.....

Visited Clumber Park on May Bank Holiday and went for coffee in the restaurant near the Visitor Centre. It was as usual - painfully slow - three people behind the counter but only one seeming to be working. And for what? - wishy-washy coffee in a paper cup! If I'd wanted coffee in a paper cup I'd have found a caravan in a layby.I know the National Trust get a lot of things correct, but I think they could do better in this area. We get far better service at Hardwick Hall and coffee that tastes like coffee in a proper cup.

Food was ok, standard pub grub really, dirty loos, and during our visit today 28th Dec, the service was somewhere between random and non existent. My dad's meal came as a starter, then he had nothing too eat while he watched us eat our mains. Forty minute wait between courses not very impressive. Oddly food arrived within minutes of us asking where it was. The staff super friendly. Pity it wasn't better organised. It took 2 hours to get from arriving, ordering, eating and leaving. More than an hour of that was waiting.

Ate here with the wife and kids after the Santa experience, ordered a ploughman's, someone came out of the kitchen about 10 mins later to say they had no pork pie left (it had only just turned 12), said they could offer some extra cheese and some sliced beef, was a bit on the spot as nothing else took my fancy so accepted. 20 minutes later when it finally arrived the plate was plonked in front of me and an embarrassed looking waiter said they had no beef so they had given me Turkey instead........thanks for asking me if this was ok. So my ploughman's consisted of 2 big slabs of Stilton, 2 big slabs of mature cheddar, some dry overlooked and what looked old Turkey, a couple of pickled onions and some Branson pickle with a few rocket salad leaves, nothing else, no ham or bread. I pushed it round the plate for a bit and they left it after a small cheese overload, utter crap and I would have felt embarrassed to serve it at over £7 for the plate. The wife's soup was bland and cold, kids food was actually ok.Clumber park is good but skip the food, they have no pride in it

Visited this restaurant for lunch after a Segway experience at the park. After a long wait in the queue , my husband forked out nearly £16 for two coffees and two jacket potatoes ....I know theses places are usually a bit expensive but at least we'd be getting a lovely drink and meal wouldn't we? I found us a table and eventually my husband returned with the coffees. We then commenced our lengthy wait for lunch. We started our drinks and once we had got through the half a cup of froth, we found our intensely bitter coffee, in fact it was so bitter,I had to go and queue again to ask for some milk to dilute it. The lady on the till told me she finds the coffee overly bitter too. So back to our coffees (which were now cold anyway) we added more cold milk to make them stone cold but drinkable! .....After about 30 minutes our potatoes arrived, but disappeared again because the "waiter" didn't hear our cries of acknowledgment when he shouted out our number. I went in hot pursuit but he was already circling the courtyard outside! Eventually, I grabbed his attention and he put them on our table. Unfortunately, there was no butter so I made another trip to get some . At last.....we could sit down to eat! What a disappointment... The potatoes were barely warm and the filling, served in a side dish, amounted to not much more than a tablespoon. Wished I had taken a picnic!

last Monday in September, so not school holidays or even a weekend, 10 people in the queue, so had to wait over 15 mins to just give order, then a further 20 mins wait for the food. They don't do big full meals, just things like jacket potato's, soup etc. run out of sandwiches, when the food finally arrived it was only just warm, but nicely served, in fact, beautifully presented, spuds not microwaved so thats a major plus, and plenty of food, would hate to visit on a buy day (say with 20 people wanting food), spoils the visit

We attended the family day and it was past lunch time. We could not get anywhere near food apart from the restaurant. We had a small Que, which gave us time to choose our sandwiches. We chose bacon , lettuce and tomato, sausage cob and cheese and pickle sandwiches with a drink and a pkt of crisps. The bill was around £24 which I thought was pricy. Most sandwiches were around £4.75! The bacon one was lots of small bits like leftovers, and the sausage one was on an extremely dry cob! Not what you would expect for the price. Not impressed.

Having never been to this establishment but aware of comments made, both positive and negative, I was wondering what the whole experience would be like. I was very impressed by the food and staff, nothing was too much for any of the staff and all very approachable and positive in their reaction to a request. The menu is very good for all preferences and cooked very well. Prices are good and food is served with a smile. The 'Eggs Benedict' are delicious, as was the traditional Sunday lunch. We stayed for a weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our stay, with a view to a return soonest.

We found the staff nice, but the sausage baps were a let down. The sausages looked as though they had only looked at the frying pan or grill, they were still very pink on the outside. The bap(s) I'm sure we're from the previous day as they were very dry.Felt it was a real shame, as the tea and coffee were lovely, the cakes looked really nice too.Having said all that, Clumber Park is really lovely, the views are gorgeous with plenty to see. Don't be put off if you see a lot of cars in the car parks, the park is so big, you won't be in danger of constantly bumping in to one another. If you like rhododendrons, go in May/June when I think they should all be in flower. They have a spectacular display of colour then.

All the staff appeared friendly and when you order you get a flower with a number on it which is a different novelty. The café itself has three main rooms with one looking out over the park and lake with very good seating. The quality of the food is good and the quantity not skimped especially the roast port sandwich. If available the venison is highly recommended. The prices are about average for this sort of establishment but certainly not as expensive as some I've experienced in the past. You get what you pay for and this can be reflected with the quality and quantity plus the congenial surroundings (if in the part with the view).I've often used this as a stop off point on a journey (membership of the National Trust means no fee to pay for the car) and will continue to do so.

We had the sausage and mash at GBP6.95 and a pot of tea, with a little bag of ginger bread biscuits whilst we were waiting. The total was nearly GBP20! When the dish arrived (not a long wait) we were really disappointed with the quantity. The plate was huge and filled with tasty gravy in which there was a small saucer sized portion of mashed potato topped with three Lincolnshire pork sausages. What there was tasted very nice indeed although it wasn't piping hot, but it was ok. However there were no other vegetable and we thought that it was a bit of a meagre offering for the money. It certainly needed something extra! We could see the other dishes coming out of the kitchen and some of them looked quite substantial so maybe we just picked the wrong dish, or they just forgot our veg!!! This was a one off meal in the cafe for us because we don't normally eat there as the food has always been a bit expensive (we're pensionrs) so we thought we'd give it a try after the refit, but we won't be giving it a second try!!! Sorry Clumber Cafe - reduce your prices or make the portions bigger!

Carvery had really old tough meat. I emailed the manager who basically called me a liar. I went in on Veterans Day to celebrate alone and took the food to go, to later find the meat was old, hard, and inedible. I went back the next day and received a refund; without a smile, a hello, or nothing! How about we’re really sorry, here’s your refund, would you like to try something on the menu free of charge. No way! Customer Service sucks!

The food is consistently incredible, but what sets this place apart is the attention to detail in every aspect, from the stylish decor to the staff’s warmth and professionalism. They know how to make you feel welcome, and the cocktails? Perfectly crafted, exactly as they should be. If you’re looking for a place that offers it all, from amazing food to an all-around enjoyable dining experience, The Dog & Duck checks every box. I can’t thank them enough for creating such a wonderful environment. I look forward to every visit.

We came here for a carvery meal which was good except for the amount of meat we were given which was tiny, half a slice of turkey and half a slice of beef, we had expected a bit more. We went to order a dessert but had run out of our choices so we didn't bother.
