A great place nice food friendly staff and a lively atmosphere well worth a visit

Food is quality, staff are pleasant has all the sports

Ordered what they called a post cheese on toast. As I cut it to eat cheese was running down my arm it felt n tasted of cheese spread with vinegar. It was disgusting @ £5.50 thought it would be decent. It also arrived with a cold chipped plate. I Wasn't expecting another grand just a cheese on toast. When I told staff there were no mention of morning being returned just a sorry. I'm sorry I paid for a crap meal on a broken plate.my daughter left most of hers as we're on cold plate n food not worth the price.Srry to anyone using this overpriced menu . I will never use again.

My first family roast at the Clarence today. We all really enjoyed it and Kerry, the Manager, went above and beyond to accommodate us. I highly recommend this pub.

Came here on a Saturday, D.J kerry was playing the same old rubbish, 3 of us asked her to play a request, the answer to me was" I will later when everyone has had a good drink" then never played it at all just stuck to her own rubbish that she plays every week , won't be going back, need to get a different D.J in there

Staffs usually stare at customers if they talk with them. Not customer friendly so staffs need training from management. Great atmosphere

A great pub which I usually pop into for a quick pint when shopping in Northend. Friendly attentive service and only £4 for a nice cool pint of Stella - what's not to like? Nice decor inside, a pool table and comfy seating around the side along with various tables and chairs/high and low stools. Outside patio area with 3 tables under cover and a further 5 in the sun with umbrellas if required. Recommended....

The overweight barmaid was abusing a old man who had entered with his partner. For some reason she believed she was a judge Judy and started accusing him of bringing in stolen contents from a shop?? Was very embarrassing for him (though it shouldn’t be) but that’s what they put him through. Always avoided this pub for a reason but might come in and have a word about discrimination. He had and still has the recent to hand which he’s actually now posted. She embarrassed and bullied him for no reason other than simply jealousy. When he tried to get the receipt out too she refused to see it and continue throwing them out.

I've been here a couple of times lately, usually before going to the Indian restaurant across the road... it's very friendly & the staff are always helpful

Had a wonderful meal here the wait staff were amazing but was greated by one of the chefs Tom. Very charismatic and made me feel welcomed. Would highly reccomend this venue.

Absolutely diabolical I’ve been here a few times and with friends and my partner and it seems that a certain person who works there always wants us to leave telling me or my partner that we are too drunk and refuse to serve us! Why she has to make life difficult when I’ve had friends and other witnesses there knowing we’re not drunk My partner tripped he had flip flops on for crying out loud 😂 Absolutely ridiculous now kerry I will be taking this further it like she doesn’t like me so petty to keep saying your drunk leave When we clearly not doing anything wrong Clearly kerry has personal reasons and definitely not professional Safe to say myself, my partner and friends won’t be returning

Nice comfortable pub. Staff are very welcoming which makes a nice change.

Haven't been to a Portsmouth pub for years. Hasn't changed. There was a fight on the dance floor, toilets were horrible, rubbish music

Nice space with a good atmosphere. The burgers are excellent, and they were welcoming to these two weird North Americans, so it’s everything we’re looking for in a local pub.

Popped in here for the first time in 20 years, the barmaid/manager/landlady (not sure which) was really welcoming and lovely. Nice atmosphere.

Excellent selection of beers on tap

Me and my family went out for lunch here and it took 40 minutes for our (not great) food to come out and when we asked, the barmaid rolled her eyes at my sister. Who asked very politely how long we could expect to wait. Not best pleased.

The woman behind the bar was rude, and food took over half an hour even though there were only about a dozen customers. Not a great first post-covid lunch!

Slow and rude service. Actual eye roll when staff asked where food is after 40 mins waiting in an empty-ish pub. Avoid for now

The first time in here, excellent service met the landlady, she was lovely an helpful. Had few drinks so we thought next day we go back in. Big mistake, kids behind bar music loud an dress code well if I had staff members who dressed like that they wouldn't be there. Had few drinks enjoying chatting in corner minding my own business. When my friend goes to the bar he was refused a drinks said we drunk to much. Appalled by this looking at the young man feet up on chair we left with no decent explanation. 🤬

Wonderful time spent on the canel. Very attentive and knowledgeable staff. Would love to go again.

Massive sport & family pub with an amazing italian food twists. Very professional management and staff. Pizza's are incredible. Well done Clarence guys!!!

Sunday Roast not up to much and a bit over priced. Lovely location by the sea the are staff friendly.

Sorry Luv no real ales are sold 'ere........Since changing from Greene King. So said the member of staff on Saturday teatime. Okay I get it, not everyone drinks ale...sadly this pub has declined to a Sports Bar when it did sale a few ales and the pumps were still there unloved and turned around. If you do not offer it, then customers cannot buy it chicken and the egg really.....and the smell of a certain smokey smell wafting in from the garden put me and my family off after we bought a round which was cheap I suppose. We drank our cheap drinks quickly...I opted for John Smiths which was ok, and left. It's not my kind of pub, devoid of character, finesse and atmosphere and I guess it will appeal to a certain crowd looking for an alternative to the 'Spoons nearby.

Watered down Vodka Awful karaoke

30 years out of date. Thought I was back in the 90's

What a cosy pub! Me and a few friends went in for karaoke night and it was truly amazing. The staff are very polite. Would defiantly recommend!

This is a typical sports bar with plenty of TV's and very cheap beers on certain days like weekends. A Green King loyalty card is needed. A full menu is also available.

Slightly dated decor but staff were friendly and service was fast at bar. Food waiting time a little long but not excessive and food was well cooked hot and enjoyable.

If you're taking kids you have to pay £1hr for the play gym! Even if your eating. The doors that shut you off from the rest of the pub make it feel cramped hot and loud. Not a nice dining. Experience with your kids. Prices and food average.

A typical nice sports bar mostly with a wide range of cheap beer and drinks.There is a garden as welll,a public council car park in the back.Theh have a dart board as well plus a pool table. The pub si quite big,spacious,enough for many people to watch a football game The staff is nice,helpful,on busy days doormen as well fair and ferm about theyr role,so if you look under 25 have an id with you. I recommend it.

Door staff are microcephalic tools on ego trips. Patrons and bar staff are generally friendly.

I use this pub for viewing football. There's plenty of seats and a good atmosphere. I don't drink alcohol but still get on well with just about all the regulars. Anyone can feel comfortable in the Clarence.

Barman was excellent. Been in since and the girl behind bar seemed only interested in serving her friends who came after me. Maybe not a good sign to see bouncers on the door so early in the evening. Will not be back in a hurry.

Nice enough place. Some friendly and attentive staff (thanks to the lady who sold me the raffle ticket), others not so much. Ordered a mixed roast which seemed to take an eternity to arrive but delivered with a smile. Food was fairly average but still miles better than Wetherspoon down the road. Will visit again but need to try a bit harder with the food.

Gorgeous wendy the barmaid as always....plus cheaper than wetherspons.....

Drank there on and off 15 years, door staff need sorting no music at the weekend's any more, becoming unfriendly . Not going back for a while.

Its friendly with good selection of beers and lagers it has a smoking area at the rear worth a try.
