Called in here to look at the antiques. We bought a small item and were served by the most miserable sour faced, unfriendly, man we had ever seen. On the way out we bought some of the excellent cakes on offer to take home and were served by a helpful friendly young lady and a jolly friendly young lad. Maybe they could teach the old bloke a few things about customer service ?

Very average service and food. We got to the building about 330 and went in to sit down. When we went in one of the assistants asked if we had ordered. As we hadn't we had to go back outside to the veranda and wait for the other assistant to take our order. We ordered a bacon bap, a sausage bap and two teas - it came to £13.50 which did seem expensive but we had high hopes for the food. We went back in to the cafe and sat down. We were next to the radiator but also next to the doorway which had curtains across instead of a door. The curtains were tied back so did not keep the place warm, neither did the radiator unfortunately. The food arrived - very underwhelming. The baps must have been kept in the fridge as they were very cold. I think the bacon and sausages had been pre-cooked and reheated in a microwave - they were hot but not very appetising. The food was served in a paper tray and the tea arrived in paper cups. I am not sure it would have been better in real crockery but at least it would have been better looking! The couple who arrived just before us had their food in real crockery. We realised this as we were leaving so didn't question it but I suspect it was something to do with them knowing the woman who served them. It was a a bit of a sad experience to be honest - and an expensive one. We had also paid for parking and had intended to shop in the antiques place as well but neither of us felt inclined after that. I wish we had taken the food back to the car - we would have been warmer and I would have felt we had got our money's worth out of the parking. I don't think we would bother again - it used to be better so not sure what has happened.

We were disappointed that more effort is not being made to sanitise tables after use. We tried two different tables and they had crumbs and spills on them and we had to ask for them to be wiped down.

Went to this tea room at the antiques centre in Clare after going to the craft fair at the Priory. Beautiful village, lovely, quaint vintage style tea room. Gets the atmosphere exactly right. Vintage crockery and silverware. Great value cream tea for £5, and they warmed the scones. Very friendly proprietress and polite efficient staff. Don’t miss this place, it’s brilliant and effortlessly cool.

Our whole family all 13 of us, stopped into Clare's Antique Café after a morning walk on Sunday 23rd December. The two guys who prepared and served us our food, were friendly, helpful and our food was served promptly. We were all impressed and would highly recommend the café. We even received a piano recital from one of the guys, which was well received. All in all a very pleasant morning.

The polarised reviews of this place are pretty understandable. On the upside, it’s right next to the car park for Clare Castle so very convenient if visiting; it’s quite charming inside (it’s part of a village antique shop); and we thought that the menu and food were reasonable for a tea room (toasties, wraps, breakfast baps, tea, coffee and milkshakes). It is small - 5 tables - which might be a problem in busier months, but wasn’t for us. The staff are a bit green, but perfectly polite and got there in the end. What lets it down, in my opinion, is the price, which is a bit steep for the quality of what is provided. I’ve certainly paid less for better, and some might object to the cost for something that feels a bit thrown together, however quaintly. There is a cafe in the Castle Park which might be worth checking out as an alternative (it was closed the day we went)

Once again back at Clare antiques for our lunch in their beautiful cafe. My friend and I had a ploughman’s lunch and the only way I can describe this lunch is simply WOW! Superb value at £7.50 for a beautiful fresh homemade lunch following by the most amazing salted caramel brownie topped with clotted cream, strawberries and lightly dusted with chocolate flakes. The staff were very attentive with great attention to detail. We were served by Carmel who made us feel so at home that we did not want to leave, we have been here on several occasions and Carmel and her staff have always left us wanting more. So if you’re looking for somewhere to go with a great atmosphere, great food and superb value then Clare antiques and interiors’ cafe is the place to go where you will be greeted by friendly and attentive staff Harry and Will

Interesting cafe, a good concept, but staffed by youngsters with little training or enthusiasm. Bit more energy and a welcome required, not the attitude we used to expect from British Rail workers in the old days. It almost felt like we were imposing ourselves, on the cafe. Service was slow, tables uncleared, despite not being particularly busy. We didn't even bother to view the centre after this. Plenty of other choices in Clare for another visit.

This afternoon a dear friend and I visited Clare. What a wonderful and refined town. So genteel and understated. Not over discovered as Lavenham has sadly become. We went to Platform 1 which is superb but discovered that on a very busy Saturday they close at 4.00. So we decided to try the rather bohemian cafe in front of the antique warehouse. Very quirky and fantastic staff very friendly and helpful even though we arrived about 20 mins before they closed at 5.00. Had a most delicious afternoon tea. Clearly chef has professional training in the cake making area. I had a simply delicious orange liqueur cake. Light, fluffy, tasty and worthy of Fortnum and Mason Piccadilly! My friend had the honey and almond cake which of course I tried! I’ve never tasted such a delicious cake. Perhaps they should consider selling these on line. Seriously unique and superb. The afternoon tea option offered very tasty toasted sandwiches. I opted for the Brie, bacon and cranberry. Yummy, stuffed full, oozing and couldn’t be better. The scones were fabulous. I had the excellent coffee whilst my friend had the tea which he described as a traditional quality blend. The China is mix and match antique the chairs painted and mismatched. It’s a bit like afternoon tea with a sophisticated but eccentric granny! I loved it. Not really brilliant for families with running toddlers outside but I think there are tables indoors. Dog friendly. I will return when next in Clare.

After getting seated and perusing the menu, we began to give the girl behind the counter our order. When asking whether the scones were freshly baked that day, after some hesitation the waitress told us that they were from the previous day. The first order was a sausage bap, but we were told there was no sausage. Brie and bacon... no bacon. We tried to order several dishes and were told each was unavailable before finally being told that the small board on the counter facing away from us indicated what wasn't available (this happened to be around half of the menu). Could the girl not have welcomed us by explaining there were some items unavailable and pointing us towards this board before letting us try to order? Surely this should at least have been explained after we tried to order the sausage bap? And in a village with a Co-op and a butchers, there really is no excuse for running out of bacon and sausage. We thought it odd when we walked in that the cafe was empty at lunchtime during the school holidays - it quickly became apparent why. We took our business elsewhere in Clare and were well looked after and enjoyed an excellent lunch.

The cafe looks attractive both in and out but it is quite small with only 5 tables and not really big enough for a family when other diners are there. The cakes and scones look very good and the scones were certainly tasty. However the food preparation area is quite tiny. Our food was served in a disjointed manor and probably took at least twenty minutes to serve a family of 6 because at least one item was forgotten but the others came in ones or twos. The coffee was awful and tasted as though it had been sitting there for a long time. The sausage and bacon for the roll was heated in a microwave having been pre-cooked. Having thought that this would be cooked freshly I found this unacceptable but have since been informed that it happens all the time. Really?! The milk shakes consisted of powdered milk with "squirty" cream on top Which is acceptable at the cheap price they were sold at but the rest of the items were quite expensive. When we complained about the coffee we were given an alternative cup of tea and money was refunded for the sausage and bacon roll which was a plus. The attitude of the man we took to be the owner was not acceptable. He was extremely rude and would not admit to the coffee being "stewed". We were told that his usual customers drink it like that all the time and do not object to hot water being added to it. Our time spent there was quite uncomfortable and we will not be going there again.

The Vintage Tearoom at Clare Antiques Centre did us proud. There was a large table just outside the entrance big enough to accommodate our extended family with comfortable chairs and the dog was welcome too. We were greeted with traditional Irish hospitality and nothing was too much trouble. The waitress service was first class and attentive; details included fresh flowers on the table, a beautifully eclectic mix of cups and saucers, and everything was spotless. The food was hot, delicious and well presented, and polite enquiries made to ensure we had everything we wanted.

Spent an hour browsing the amazing collections of collectibles. Lots of changes in evidence. Great place for Christmas shopping - never know what you might find. After all that we had two cups of Earl Grey in the on-site tea shop. My wife had the most delicious home-made cake, and I had the bacon-roll deal which at the price must be the best deal in town. We spent a lovely afternoon walking around the Priory and the streets of Clare and returned back to the car park, but passing this 'Cafe' seeing a free table next to the road, we decided to stop and have a cup of tea. i went to the car to get some water for our dog and my wife said she would order. i returned after a few minutes and neither of the two waitresses had taken our order yet. One was clearing away the table next to us and I tried to make eye contact, but she looked over and went inside. The other waitress started dismantling a board next to our table, still didn't acknowledge us until my wife asked whether we had to go inside to order. She was told flatly 'we've stopped taking orders'. It was 4.26. The sign (that hadn't yet been cleared away) said 'Open Sunday 10.00 to 5.00'! No apology, no "I'm sorry, we are no longer taking food orders, but if you just want a drink.." or "I'm sorry we close at 5.00, so you would need to finish by then".

My friend and I found this place on Tripadvisor and were encouraged by the positive reviews, so decided to drive the journey of an hour from our village to try out the tea and cakes. We arrived at about 2.00 p.m. and the selection of cakes was very poor - only a few things to choose from and only a few slices of what was left and none looked particularly pleasant. Perhaps they'd been sliced by a crazed axeman with a blunt axe, they certainly were rather unappealingly presented. We had the oddly named, Hummingbird cake, which was not too bad, but of course, was devoid of hummingbirds, but the milk for our tea had "black bits" in it, the cups and saucers likewise. Overall, memorable for all the wrong reasons. There was no toilet, but the staff said we could use theirs. My friend said it wasn't very clean and only used it because we had a long trip home. Incidentally, this place doesn't appear to be disabled friendly - couldn't see anyway a wheelchair user or person with mobility problems could access the interior and they certainly wouldn't be able to manage to WC. Won't be going again and wouldn't recommend it.

Have visited several times lately: coffee with a friends and a surprise afternoon tea with my daughter. The setting, outside an antiques emporium, is quirky - everything from antique tables and chairs to vintage cups and saucers is for sale. Staff are friendly and accommodating. Our tea consisted of our choice of sandwiches (cream cheese and onion jam, cheddar and Suffolk ham), choice of cakes (lemon drizzle and carrot), scones with jam, clotted cream and strawberries, the whole thing garnished with slices of fresh fruit, and a large pot of tea. Everything looked lovely and more importantly tasted fantastic. Portions were so generous we couldn't manage everything (took the cake home with us...) The cost? £10 each.
