Food was really tasty (not greasy), good sized portions and reasonably priced The staff there were a bit unfriendly though and seemed aggrieved that I wanted to pay by card rather than their preferred cash

BEST Fish & Chips in Hove bar none - welcome back to the original Church Road Shop. Cod & Chips we had on Wednesday was excellent. Much better than Bankers was - and they were pretty good (usually). Highly recommended.

Food was very late but I think that was more to do with getting a driver to turn up, they kept changing the estimated time. Fish was very good, chips were massive portions but the sausage in batter was very thin on the batter part. Overall better than average.

Soggy fish and enemic and bland frozen onion rings. Chips are just about scraping the bar for a chippie. Avoid.

High standard of food & "yumminess"!! Glad it's a stones throw from me. Staff are very polite & friendly, & one of them a neighbour too! so I reckon that covers all you need from a chippie & more beside 👍😀 I continue, to this day, use this chippie for me or me & my son. Chips are good, that's the only positive I can give. Onion rings were burnt, curry sauce watery, and £4.50 for a burger that's literally just a burger in a bun, no cheese, no salad, no sauce. Ridiculous!

Chips cooked to perfection, Battered Sausage was amazingly fresh and the curry sauce tasted lovely although maybe could have been a little thicker 🥰.

I am from the famous fishing town of Hastings (so know my fish) now living in hove, I have tried most fish restaurants and fish and chip shops in Brighton and Hove, I tried the chip basket and wow the best I’ve had by far The piece of cod was LARGE and Fresh, great batter, Great value 10/10 If you want the best fish and chips this is the place

i remember when these guys were based on Church Road, and they were excellent. Chips were cooked to absolute perfection...some of the best I had ever tasted. Had made a few orders on Deliveroo in recent times and the chips were hit and miss. Hope you've improved and may try again soon.. 5 stars for the memories.

The" Chip Basket"fish n'Chip Shop/Resturant in Portland Road,Hove ,is without doubt about the best place for a fish meal or takaway in Brighton/Hove.Really scrumptious batter juicy fresh chips cooked to order whilst you wait about 8-10 mins, huge portion (ask for medium in Fish)it will fill the plate,they make their own chips from real potatoes prepared by George himself.Meal for two is about £20.In the resturant, bread & Butter and mugs of tea can be had also. Takaway is even less!

Well worth going out of your way for. Fabulous fish and chips, lovely batter and all cooled from scratch while you wait, not off a hot shelf, so it takes a little longer but it's more than worth the wait!

So blessed to live less than one minute away from this fish and chip shop. Reasonably priced and one of the best fish and chip take aways I have come across. They do serve as a small resturant when no restrictions are in place with Covid 19 etc, although not tried sit in as live too close by for that really, I have in time see folk enjoying a dine in... Lovely local fish and chip shop, one of the best additions to this end of Portland Road over recent years 😊

Just ordered for the first time through deliveroo. Amazing experience! First class service and quality. Food was fresh and hot and really good size portions. Good value and so glad I chose to order from you out of the choice of many! And I am very hard to please when it comes to food! Deliveroo driver was very polite too and a super fast delivery! Would highly recommend.

Best fish & chips I've had for a long time. The batter is very tasty and not overly oily and they use those potatoes that give the chips a soft squishy inside. Friendly staff completes the experience!

I always get my fish and chips from here I'm partial to curry sauce and chips love the curry sauce totally different from Chinese curry sauce recommended the curry sauce have a taste and if your like me you will not regret it

It’s clean and bright and the food is cooked while you wait. But we got home to find that our chips were a little pale and soggy and the fish was over cooked.

Every neighbourhood needs a chippy like this. The guys are friendly, good humoured and generous characters who prefer to fry to order, which is great if you don’t mind the short wait; I spend the time memorising fish names from the poster on the wall opposite the counter (an obsession from watching the concluding round of a Celebrity Squares episode when the finalist was unable to name “Nine fish you can find at a fishmongers” and could not) or watching the footy on the TV. The food is fresh and tasty so please do pay a visit.

I have been here twice now and honestly it is so bad! The chips was wet, soft and pale! I would recommend going for a five min walk either side and actually getting some decent food!

Local fish and chip shop that also has indoor seating. Does what it says on the tin really, basic fish and chip shop with the usual options. Fish generally cooked fresh to order.

We had haddock fish and chips yesterday. I have to say this fish and chip shop is a hidden pearl. While the shop is rather no-frills and not as "hip" as some of its competition, the quality of the fish and chips is excellent. Crispy batter and moist fish inside! Lovely chunky chips, maybe could be a bit crispier on the outside while still fluffy inside, but no I am asking for perfection... They ran out of medium-sized haddock, so we got two large pieces for the price of the medium haddock :-) Definitely recommend this local place!

Had a really pleasant experience here a few days ago. Really friendly staff. Good food and very hygienic. Highly recommend.

For my money this is the best chip shop in Hove. The fish and the chips are cooked fresh (so you can have a five minute wait) The staff are friendly. It's cheaper and tastier than others closer to town. It's a take away, there are a few tables, but much better to take a short walk to the beach and fend off attack from seagulls.

Great chippie. Used to be on Church Road, took a break and relocated to Poets Corner. Food always good and fresh. Downside is they rarely have very much ready so usually need to wait 10 mins or so.

Just below average. Ate outside, so the fish and chips had not traveled, but was soggy anyway. Fish had a slight taste of something, preservatives, cleaner, not sure.

Having used this take away for a while now, all very last minute as very average fish and chips, yesterday took the biscuit, cold chips and even colder curry sauce with no lid all for £1.60.....thrown in the bin after first bite. Further, the monosyllabic response one constantly received, was once viewed as a lack of English, however, my belief now is, it was simply rudeness. Going elsewhere now!!!
