We stopped here by chance for lunch . Great find. Lovely quirky place. Large free car park. Weather was good so we were outside in the courtyard . Really nice setting. Friendly and efficient service. Good lunch selection . Nice food. Dog friendly with water bowls and a tap in the courtyard. Seems a busy place . Would return if in area again

Large car park to rear. Friendly prompt service. Very nice food, fresh cakes etc. reasonably priced. Nice surroundings. Large outside seating area. Only issue was an influx of rather loud Lycra clad cyclists, who were not quite ‘built’ should I say, to wear Lycra… left nothing to the imagination (unfortunately) and may have put those with a delicate disposition off their food! I was however impressed with the tensile strength of Lycra nowadays….

Travelling north on the A1 returning from holiday we needed somewhere to stop for a drink and a light lunch. We decided to turn off at Tuxford on impulse as we wanted somewhere nicer than a motorway stop. We couldn't have chosen better. Tuxford is a charming little village/town with free parking (very rare these days!) and Chilli Petals also has its own car park. The little café was absolutely lovely and the food delicious, I had the most delicious toasted sandwich I have ever tasted and my husband had an equally delicious quiche and salad. We almost missed it as it looks very tiny from the front but there is a large brown sign outside at the front which simply says coffee. At the back there is also a lovely little shop selling all sorts of very niche items plus greetings cards etc. I can't recommend this place highly enough and we would definitely go again.

After hearing good things about Chilli Petals I decided to give it a try. I arrived at about 3:50pm. There were customers and I walked around to the cafe part. Lovely florists and gift shop I thought. There were staff sat down, not a problem and I asked if they were still open and serving. I was told yes so I asked if I could have an Americano. I was told to take a seat and they would bring it round. 20 mins later, after lots of laughter and giggling there was no sign of a coffee and it was clear they were cleaning down. I felt slightly silly and decided to leave. Don’t think I’ll be returning and if you do decide to go, make sure it’s before 3.30 ish.

Funny how you can end up visiting somewhere you had no intention of going in the first place! Sunday 2nd June we had a lovely visit to the equally nice Tuxford Windmill. This was a impromptu visit as we had just walked out of another local café due to appalling service. Our intention was to take a short detour into Tuxford last Friday and again call at the Windmill. We did - and it was shut! Drove the one mile back into the village found a free car park and went looking for a light bite. Have to say at this stage the only reason we called at Chilli was because it was pouring down and it was the first place we spotted, if you discount the pub. We were not disappointed. A lovely small coffee shop/café and gift shop. Not that many seats, but we found space on a sofa. Nice staff, reasonable prices for the snacks and light lunches. Clean WC facilities. We enjoyed a nice cheese toastie served with a light salad, done just perfectly. Nice supporting local businesses and this one delivered all that was expected in a nice environment.

We go to Chilli Petals at least once a week, taking our small dog with us. He lies quietly at our feet while we have our coffee and mouthwatering cake. He isn’t jumping all over the furniture and in all the years we have gone to this cafe we have never seen dogs on the furniture. Usually, he is the only dog there. Please read all the lovely reviews for this cafe- it is a gem in the middle of Tuxford with lovely welcoming staff , great food , fresh flowers and lots of gifts to look at and buy. I often pop into Chilli Petals to catch up with friends over a slice of delicious homemade cake and pot of tea. The gift shop has unique and interesting items as well as a fabulous selection of occasion cards. Recently I had cause to buy a funeral wreath, and Chilli Petals outdid themselves with a stunning and tasteful floral display, which was also reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend Chilli Petals for casual dining - the additional Courtyard seating in this year's heatwave has been a bonus, and I wouldn't hesitate to use Chilli Petals for all my future floristry needs. The new improved courtyard is a real bonus in these hot summer days. Looking around the shop is also far better than looking into a computer screen trying to get inspiration for a birthday or anniversary gift. Chilli petals has three elements and each can stand-up to completion in their own right but all three together make an excellent attraction and asset to Tuxford. Emma and the team are great and we wish them every success in the future. Just in case anyone is wondering, yes we do eat at home sometimes.

It is not unpleasant the service was friendly. The choice of cakes looked ok and the menu in general seems to be on the wall near the food counter not where people are sitting which would allow for longer to choose. This place is popular with locals I think the cafe is the busy part because the shop full with knickknacks did not seem very popular there was lots of stuff everywhere which is rather overpriced. There is also the flowers shop at the back which Might be worth a visit although it seems to be largely cut flowers but I cannot comment on because I didn't buy anything or see how it operates. You cannot have a very private conversation in here and the seating is not very comfortable but don't let that put you off it's a nice place to visit the people are friendly and the food and drink is quality and inexpensive.

Not a bad atmosphere as you walk through the door, although it took a few minutes for them to realise I was there, luckily the TV was on current affairs. Some tables still had dirty plates on them. Ordered a large sandwich and was asked if I wanted extras on, (egg was mentioned but I didn't get any). The sandwich was well worth the money (£4.60) as it was really full. Negatives were: bread was soggy but this was due to everything inside, eg coleslaw, salad cream etc. This also meant the sandwich fell to bits so I had to eat it with fork. They used clingfilm instead of foil/paper to wrap, this added to the mess when it was unwrapped. Big one for me was the lady DID NOT use gloves, I mentioned this and she said that she had just washed her hands, the clothes she was wearing were really dirty which did not fill me with joy. Overall the sandwich filled me up, the staff was kind and helpful but I won't return as I prefer cleanliness above all else.

This pub is a tale of two halves. The decoration & ambiance of the pub is lovely, loos are clean and ample parking. The pub was wonderfully dog friendly & the lady behind the bar & taking food orders was wonderful, friendly and vey helpful, the drinks were great and amazingly cheap.....However..... I'm afraid the whole evening was ruined by the food. I ordered the Fillet steak, medium rare @ £25.00 (not expensive), I asked for side salad instead of onion rings, mushrooms & toms. No sauce. What arrived was a very small sirloin (poss rump) steak, 1/2 " thick with a good 1" of unrendered fat down one side and over cooked. Plus a side of pepper sauce I never ordered. I questioned if the order had been taken down wrong or misread but I was assured that the Chef says The steak is definitely fillet! & the sauce is complimentary!..... I am not a butcher but I do know what a Fillet cut looks like !!! This was NOT. I was on a date with my partner so didn't want to complain, or embarrass him, but I feel bad that I allowed him to pay for something I definitely didn't have! I ate the meal which was edible but not what it was meant to be. The couple on the table behind us had a lengthily argument with the chef about his steak, sent one back & refused to pay for the second!! I don't mind if things aren't available or the kitchen is short staffed. I don't care of orders are taken or read wrongly BUT to be LIED to is unforgiveable. If I was there on my own I would not have accepted my meal. That said, my boyfriend's Faggots were lovely.......In short, A lovely pub for a cheap drink.......just don't have high expectations of the food.

Enquired about my dog and advised dog friendly but no longer does food so makes any reviews a little academic
